The Marqueyssac Gardens

A wonderful part of the Dordogne. There is plenty of parking and the approach to the manor house gives you an idea of the creativity of the gardeners who shape the box hedges into fantastic arrangements. The walk along the ridge has quite a few pathways and also some fun things for kids. It is a long walk and so many vistas to explore. The restaurant is good but pricey. €6.50 for a finger of lemon juice in a glass and a jug of water. It’s was refreshing though.

A magnificent location with wonderful views, an incredible sculpted garden and plenty to explore. We took an afternoon to get our and enjoy some nature after a few days of taking in the well known historical sites in the area. It was a fine weather day, and we very much enjoyed a leisurely afternoon in these grounds. The views are far reaching, the paths calming and very well maintained, and called off with a nice restaurant just above the entrance or, along the patna ways, a creperie. The chateau in the grounds was an unexpected highlight, with some interesting history and several displays about the link between the owner and the illustrator of the Michelin Man. A must see for all

Brilliant gardens. Nice house and wonderful views over the Dordogne River and valley especially from the Belvedere viewpoint. Wonderful sights of wild cyclamen (it was autumn) throughout.

This was so much fun! Kids loved the adventure of the paths lined with hedges too. Felt like something out of a story book. This was pram accessible the whole way too. Some parts easier than others. We had ice cream and coffee at the tea house and it was delicious.

Fabulous gardens. Great views of the countryside. Plenty of exercise, bring water bottles. My ten year old daughter loved it, treated it like an adventure to discover hidden areas, and wants to go back next year. Once you've admired the topiary go into the chateau to watch a video about the gardners' work.

Very beautiful, calm place. A bit pricy though - 12,9 per person. But one can spend there couple of hours or more.

We went anticipating a 1-2 hour visit. My partner and children (4 and 8) ended up spending most of the day there while I went to deal with an issue with our car that took much longer than expected. No one complained because there was so much to see and do! The only tips: the rock climbing wall for children is only in the AM, the via ferrata requires fully closed shoes (eg. Not Keens), and children requiring two accompanying adults.

Loved the park but we came when it was really hot so it was like in a sauna so I recommend to come in winter or spring when it’s cooler cause even the waterfall was almost dry 😅.

This garden is special and elevated on the high ground. Some of the edge of garden is at the cliffs. To visit this garden need 4 hours to complete. What attracted me for this garden is their unique landscaping. The front of the garden is trim with many types of round shaped bushes. The landscape work that created look like it is from alien world. The paths are winding among the bushes. It make it nice to take pictures. The garden consists many pathways to the end of overlook. There is shuttle service take you to one end of the garden that save 20 minutes of walk. It is a golf cart can carry 6 people. The garden also have chateau at the beginning of the garden with living during 16 century. You will be surprised with many stops with different theme. Some with a sacred cross. Some with the tree house, water fall, and more. There is a cliff walk if you walk to live your live dangerously. Many activities and different pop up locations to explore. Restaurant also can be found close to the chateau.

The grounds were stunning, the peacocks were really cool. They host a yearly Easter egg hunt, which was wonderful. Overall, a wonderful place to visit. You will not be disappointed.

A must see. The gardens are spectacular, intriguing and incredibly varied. Everyone posts the photos of the main topiary section, but there is much more to see. My teenagers loved it and we had a wonderful lunch here overlooking the valley. Beautiful.

After extensive restoration work, Marqueyssac was opened to the public in 1997 and is now the most visited garden in Perigord. A folly of clipped boxwoods is the main feature of the place along with excellent views over the Dordogne. There is an easy (high heels and buggies) and a more difficult path around the overhanging gardens. The main viewing point is the Belvedere, some 800 metres from the chateau. It affords an exceptional panoramic view of the river and surroundings. The amazing topiary, along with the stunning views, which include nearby castles, make it well worth the EUR7.30 entrance fee. The visit will take you about ninety minutes, maybe more if you want to linger for a snack and a visit the shop.
