The Marron Cafe

More than worth the time to get to this cafe. We went to try the marron and was not disappointed. Great taste, generous servings and reasonably priced. The sides were fresh and tasty. The owners are delightful people who do their best to ensure your visit is memorable. If you can afford the time, make an effort to try this cafe and support a great local business.

This place is closed. Pictures were taken from the gate showing trading hours. However, when we went there, it was closed (as of April 2023). We were told by locals that it was bought by an overseas investment group and is not reliably open, if at all. Their marrons may be being exported for OS markets, and so are not available for locals or tourists on-site. Recommendation: Give it a miss, don't expect it to be closed when you get there.

Great gourmet food; very interesting presentation on how fresh water crabs are raised here. Generous portions of home grown wine and delicious.

Be aware .. this is a Chinese run seafood cafe for the Asian market. It may not be to Western taste and certainly not to mine. We had the small seafood platter which was plentiful for two people but overpriced for what it is. Small marron cut in half, shared between two, you barely get two mouthfuls each. The rest of the platter is muscles, abalone, oysters, scallops, and octopus - all of it, with head still on - and alot of sauce laden all over entire platter. I could not stomach it. The dining area and toilets also in need of a clean. The staff however were very friendly. Shame, could adjust the menu to cater to westerners now with absence of international tourists.

Delicious authentic Chinese style dishes with some fresh seafood options. Fresh squid with cumin special was great, kids loved the chicken satays, fried rice and chicken and sweet corn soup. The sparkling wine made by the winery was nice. The standout of the lunch was the Marron grown at the farm. Expensive dish, but worth it for a special occasion. Very delicious. Great for the kids to see the Marron up close in the tanks as part of the experience. The guys mentioned that the business is just starting the farm and premises back up so it will be great to see how it comes along in the future as they build up the business.

Very good Chinese restaurant, I didn’t expect to have such authentic Chinese food in a place far away from the city. It’s a worthwhile trip.
