Christmas lunch at the Martinborough Hotel. The food and service stole the show yesterday. Encrusted Snapper on a bed of buttered mash and spinach and sides included the most delicious roasted garlic potatoes and light green salad. So worth every penny and hotel staff were most pleasant and attentive calling me by name (from booking). It may have been the only game in town and the venue packed out, however, staff made Christmas lunch 2025 a real treat, thank you kindly. Regards, Michael

I recently attended a Christmas lunch at the Martinborough Hotel, my first visit to the establishment despite many trips to the area. The building itself is rich with a sense of history, evident in the old photographs, period wallpapers, and decorations that make you feel the passage of time. While the hotel was fully booked, the atmosphere was surprisingly lacking. The tables were arranged in a way that felt separated, making each group an isolated island with little sense of shared festive spirit. I have been to similar holiday meals elsewhere, but this setup felt particularly disjointed. The food was adequate for the occasion but ultimately not memorable or impressive. Considering the overall experience, it felt underwhelming for the value. Our primary goal was a family gathering, which we achieved, but the venue itself did little to enhance the occasion. While the historical charm is notable, my experience leads me to conclude that I would not return, at least not for a similar lunch event.

Everything about the Petit hotel/suites was great. Perfect location in Martinborough, comfy and clean room, friendly staff, relatively easy parking. The only thing that could've helped is an elevator, to make it easier to bring luggage upstairs and downstairs. However, for a historical property, I understand that it was never designed with an elevator and probably would require extensive changes to include one, so I understand why there isn't one. (Plus it was just one floor up to the room, so not bad.) One other piece of advice to future guests -- there is a bathtub mat on the windowsill in the bathroom. We did not notice it at first, and so our first showers were a little precarious since the bare bathtub is quite slippery. My girlfriend took a tumble, but fortunately she was okay aside from a small bruise. Anyway, if you don't see a bathtub mat, ask for one! Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend The Martinborough Hotel if you're staying in town!

We stayed in a garden suite which was in a lovely setting. The room was well appointed and the bed was comfortable. We loved sitting outside under the walnut tree as the weather was so beautiful.

Martinborough Hotel is an amazing place to stay. The Hotel is beautiful and comfortable, with lovely touches such as the welcoming library, which has old world charm. We stayed in a garden suite, which we absolutely loved. It was large and well appointed. The real gem is the staff in the Union Square restaurant and the hotel, they are fantastic. They all seem to have the ability to make all the guests feel that they are valued. Wonderful place to stay for a relaxing peaceful holiday.

Adam at union square bistro held and coordinated our winter wedding with the Martinborough Hotel. The big dining hall is beautiful, we didn’t need any decorations as it’s perfect as it is! The building is a luxurious heritage building so is VERY picturesque. It was the perfect venue for our wedding, photo opportunities Everywhere and the garden and courtyard was so pretty! The food was amazing and generous amounts. The buffet set up worked perfectly and was well presented. Our day was perfect with no stress at all, thanks to Adam! He took care of everything and made it so easy for us, nothing was a hassle and the staff were all cheerful and nice to everyone! Highly recommend for a wedding venue or a meal out or accommodation, they nailed it!

Vintage comfort. This is a classic old hotel. Radiators still work and not a single straight polished floorboard in the room. Doors open out onto a big second floor veranda where you can look out over the goings of the town square. It literally feels like going back in time only the bed is much more comfortable. The Classic claw-foot bath with shower over might not be well suited for any with mobility issues but it suited the ambience of the room. Comfortable bed and pillows. The Union Square Bistro below made it a perfect over-night or weekend option I will definitely be back to sample more of the local Pinot Noir.

5* is the only answer to this hotel. The lady at checkin was amazing, very kind and knowledgeable of the local area. The hotel itself was clean and quiet. The best place we’ve stayed at since being in NZ. Very close to all the vineyards and a nice little town.
