Really mixed experience, though overall good and I'd stay here again.
Pros:
- A short walk to the lift from Zermatt to Furi (less than five minutes)
- Good people, both in terms of the guests and the staff
- Cheap. (one guy staying there said that at the time he looked, it was the cheapest hostel in all of Switzerland)
- Beautiful location overlooking the river
- Accessible ski room
Cons:
- Showers are NOT hot. They get warm AT BEST and meanwhile they flood the entire floor. The staff, when asked about it, said that the showers take five minutes to warm up, which is funny because there are signs posted saying not to take more than five-minute showers. Personally? I'm pretty sure the temperature is preset and won't get any warmer no matter how long you wait.
- No kitchen facilities. The TV room has two miniature fridges, a hot water kettle, and a small amount of tableware, which I suspect was procured by hostelers. If you ask the reception desk they'll take your food into the restaurant's kitchen to microwave it - but why don't they just put a microwave in the TV room? A small microwave wouldn't draw more power than the kettle.
- Rooms are really inconsistently heated. Basically there's an electric heater by the window, and if you're lucky, nobody turns it down during the night.
- It didn't happen to me, but some other hostelers said that their rooms got overbooked and people ended up sleeping on the floor.
Overall, I'd stay here again for the savings, but I'd probably book a proper hotel for my final night.
