The place has a very late check in time of 1600 which was quite in convenient. We had a room to ourselves so there was ample space. There is only one toilet available to use at the hostel. The showers were dirty and the water doesn’t drain well causing the shower to flood after about 2 minutes. The hostel was quite expensive however Zermatt is an expensive place. The quality of the hostel was very low compared with other hostels throughout Europe. Also be prepared for noisy people throughout the night especially if sharing a room. Very itchy woolen blankets on the beds makes for uncomfortable sleeping.

This was the last accommodation available in Zermatt. I stayed in this hostel for two nights in a twin bedroom. The room came with a bunk bed and a single bed. Everything in the room was old, rusty and dirty. It also has a kind of musty smell. The blankets gave an itchy feeling. I was kind of disappointed, considering that this is Switzerland. The showers which are located in the basement were very dirty. The toilets are very dirty as well, seems like no one clean the toilets - the floor has insects running around. The sink was super dirty! The only saving grace was the view from my room! It isn’t very conveniently located as well, it takes about 15 mins to walk from the train station. The staff was okay, not rude - so that’s great. You’ve to pay for towels - 2 francs. Well, you pay for what you get. This is good for budget travellers, but if I had another choice, definitely wouldn’t choose here.

Are trip could easily be described as "Ballin on a Budget". The Hostel was relatively clean. They did not have cold water when we were there but we had brought our own. The beds were fairly comfortable and our roommates were awesome. The bar downstairs had an incredibly fun atmosphere. Can't really beat the price for staying here because everything in Switzerland is so expensive comparatively.

I was in Zermatt with my hubby and 14-yr-old daughter in late Dec. We were lucky to find any accommodation as we booked in Nov for a Dec stay. Outside of the typical $600-1,000 USD per night, this was affordable at about $150 USD/ night at Christmas time. The advantage of staying at this hostel is its LOCATION. It is a short walk in ski boots to the gondola. Frankly, i would choose this hostel over 5-star accommodation simply to be close to the gondola. I cringed to see dozens of people walking from their hotels 30-40 mins uphill in ski boots,,,,carrying equip. But then I prefer convenience to 5-star comforts. As a hostel, this is typical - 8 beds to a room in bunk format. Heat was great. As a matter of fact, we often turned down rads because we all found it too hot in the room. If you love meeting new people from all over the world and don't mind living in close quarters with strangers coming and going each day, you will enjoy this hostel. It helps if you are a camper;) Bathrooms and showers were clean enough. The restaurant upstairs was convenient, as we enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate with warm apple pie after a cold day on the slopes. I give this hostel 2 stars overall as accommodation compared with the elite hotels in the village. But it's 5-star for location!

Its better than some of the review I read about this place, but definitely budget hostel. Everything is old, but clean enough. Showers are in the basement, water is lukewarm, potentially cold, and the drains didn't work very well. The beds are bunk beds, but the top bunks don't have ladders. Blankets are wool and scratchy, but they are provided. I'd suggest bringing a sheet or liner to put between you and the blanket. They also don't provide Keys to the rooms and therefore just leave them unlocked, so bring a lock if you want to lock your stuff up and you can put everything in the locker provided. From what I can tell locker space varies. Definitely better suited for those on a tight budget who don't mind barebones facilities.

Definitely get what you pay for. Aside from comfortable beds, there isn't much great to say about this place. They give you some wool blankets and uncomfortable pillows that are bearable if you're a heavy sleeper. Perhaps the toughest part is that you can't make a move without being heard. The doors squeak and the floors creek unbelievably loud so you're getting up early in the morning whether you like it or not. That bathrooms are relatively clean, but the showers don't get all that hot and they are clogged with all sorts of stuff, so they easily flood. Not a horrible stay, but if you can afford to pay a little more, I would.

Really mixed experience, though overall good and I'd stay here again. Pros: - A short walk to the lift from Zermatt to Furi (less than five minutes) - Good people, both in terms of the guests and the staff - Cheap. (one guy staying there said that at the time he looked, it was the cheapest hostel in all of Switzerland) - Beautiful location overlooking the river - Accessible ski room Cons: - Showers are NOT hot. They get warm AT BEST and meanwhile they flood the entire floor. The staff, when asked about it, said that the showers take five minutes to warm up, which is funny because there are signs posted saying not to take more than five-minute showers. Personally? I'm pretty sure the temperature is preset and won't get any warmer no matter how long you wait. - No kitchen facilities. The TV room has two miniature fridges, a hot water kettle, and a small amount of tableware, which I suspect was procured by hostelers. If you ask the reception desk they'll take your food into the restaurant's kitchen to microwave it - but why don't they just put a microwave in the TV room? A small microwave wouldn't draw more power than the kettle. - Rooms are really inconsistently heated. Basically there's an electric heater by the window, and if you're lucky, nobody turns it down during the night. - It didn't happen to me, but some other hostelers said that their rooms got overbooked and people ended up sleeping on the floor. Overall, I'd stay here again for the savings, but I'd probably book a proper hotel for my final night.

Highly recommend for the right people. Listen, this is not a 5 star hotel. But I didn't want that. I wanted an inexpensive, clean, comfortable little hostel with a friendly staff and that's exactly what I got. They upgraded me and my friend to a 2 bed private room and let us keep our spare bags in the lounge while we hiked Zermatt. Very understanding and helpful staff. This place reminded me of the days when all people needed was a place to crash, and man, they do it well. It's a little bit of a pain there's no bed linen but it's a very manageable issue and the provided wool blanket (kinda scratchy so a liner is nice to have) did keep me warm through the night. For the right person, this place is a miracle, and it made my stay in Zermatt all the more charming. Highly recommended!!
