Beautiful example of adaptive reuse, high quality fitout sympathetic to the heritage of the hotel. Our room was spacious, but with a boutique edge. Staff were professional and helpful. Had one of the best sleeps of my life thanks to comfy bed and black out curtains. Our only regret is that key dining and drinking options were closed over an extended festive period so we couldn’t take full advantage of all the amenities.

Thanks to Jimmy our concierge when we arrived at 12:30am after flight delays. A friendly face to weary travellers. Excellent fitness centre, the breakfast was outstanding, thanks to all the staff there, so friendly. Overall the hotel is great. Will definitely return at a later date.

We had such a wonderful time at the Melbourne hotel. The room and the bathroom were perfectly cleaned. I really liked the toiletries. Staff were welcoming and polite. The building itself is stunning: a very well maintained piece of colonial architecture extended with a modern part in a great pairing.

We returned to The Melbourne Hotel again and have always been looked after, this time for New Years Eve as a few of us celebrated NYE at the roof top Aurora Bar and what a great night it was and the perfect way to say bye to 2025 and welcome in 2026. The staff as always are friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to make the stay perfect. Room was quiet and comfortable, hot shower, cold air con with big comfy bed. Some pre celebration drinks at DeBaun & Co bar set the mood. Breakfast the next day was just what we needed after the celebration. Location is excellent. The redevelopment was carried out very tastefully as well. The Melbourne Hotel is our choice location when ever we are in Perth from Kalgoorlie, oh and the Chinese food at the Grand Orient restaurant also on site is a must. 5 stars.

Let's start with the positive, the main areas are beautiful, the hotel is new and stunning and perfectly located. Keep in mind that if you arrive late, after 9pm you will have no food available in this hotel. The bedroom was OK, it could be improved by a simple piece to decorate the wall... instead the only decoration were the wires hanging under the TV. In the bedroom you will receive 2 bottles of water... not per day but per stay which I found really cheap. I put 3 starts for services, not because of the quality of the staff, they are all nice and helpful, the problem is that this hotel is running on a skeleton crew. Forget about a bell man, you will have to carry your own suitcases, the daily room cleaning is very minimalist, they cleaned our floor once in 5 nights... and as I said this is not because the crew is bad, it's because they are so few of them that they are overwhelmed. One last thing, checkout is a t 10am (noon if you are a member) which is below par for a hotel of that category.

The location is great, and the restaurants around and in the hotel are good but the rooms arent that impressive. They're a bit run down and plain, and you feel like you're staying somewhere cheaper. It isn't a terrible room but it's also not impressive and for that price I'd stay somewhere else in the future.

The Melbourne Hotel has good reviews in some guidebooks but our stay proved them woefully wrong. First of all, it is not in a good location: the facing street and and adjacent block are mostly shuttered, empty buildings appearing to be in disrepair. It is several blocks from more upscale areas and several more blocks than that from the central business district, even further from the waterfront. Second, it is definitely a junior-varsity property from the standpoint of amenities. We arrived around 7:30 in the evening an a Saturday, hungry for dinner. However the main hotel restaurant was closed for a private event. We decided to go to the rooftop bar to see what it offered -- also closed for a different private event. We did not see any of the other "restaurants" that the property claims to have (I believe the hotel may use a different definition of the term than is commonly accepted) so we decided just to have a nightcap in the hotel's ground floor bar. Also closed -- this at 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. Not wanting to navigate the dark and dodgy neighborhood, we decided just to go to bed in our Heritage Balcony room. But sleep was fitful and hard to come by, because the hotel is adjacent to what sounded like a drag racing strip. The corner intersection seems to be where every Aussie with a hopped-up car and weak muffler revs his screeching engine and hits the gas with predicably deafening sound results.||I should also mention the sign in our room's bathroom, instructing guests not to leave the bathroom door open while showering on pain of a $750 fine because the fire alarm might go off. Would this not easily be remedied by a normal ventilation system, and does this not show an attitude that puts the guest last in priority? ||While I am sorry to leave such a poor review, this hotel does not deserve your custom.

A few things that are super great at The Melbourne Hotel. Location. The physical room itself is great. It’s clean, spacious, most amenities satisfying and bed is comfortable. Took off 1 star for the room, for the most uncomfortable red chair to sit on to watch TV. Hard lay back leather. Please get a comfortable couch. Art work , please support local artist with art on your walls. Its very plan and boring. Staff were friendly , breakfast was great at the hotel cafe.

Yelp
with Homeless Hobos and Street Dwellers living literally next door, carry a full pack as you will be asked by a 'bum' for a 'bum' of a smoke or a cash donation. this area is Sketchy at best and the 'Sketchy' vibe continues inside as well. Bait & Switch is the oldest Con in the book and this property has it down to a science! i booked a picture and description and was told i'm the liar and i have a reading deficiency. never have i been so scammed. well once in miami and that is a totally different story. and a lot less money. be aware that a full price suite may not be a suite but just another room, with a name attached as if that changes facts? this building had a history of ill repute and basically hasn't changed.

Yelp
Stayed with family here for a few nights in June 2018. The staff were very friendly. Classy lounges, bar & dining. Foods is quite good too, especially loved the Hattendo buns. The rooms are definitely in the unique category. Enjoyed the stay here & will be back again. Recommend staying in this Hotel in Perth.

Yelp
The ladies at check in, if I could give you individually 5 stars I would. The only set back of the check in is there is next to no parking at the hotel. Basically there is approx 20 bays for the entire hotel guests and staff. "The room" we paid extra and received a balcony room. This has its charm and I must say was exactly how described on the website. Very well appointed and clean. There is the expected road noise but my issue was the warmth and stuffiness of the room - the aircon just wasn't cool enough and the only fresh air comes from opening the balcony door which opens onto a large shared balcony so that comprises security. I dropped half a star for that. There is no room service on a Sunday - wtf ! Also no room service after 8pm at night - wtf. Lastly my pet annoyance - is tipping in Australia. The bills for the cafe has an American style tipping area, which was presented for payment prior to receiving food. Why would anyone pay a tip prior to getting their food? When I refused a tip I received a roll Of the eyes and was then worried about the quality of my food. All in all a nice hotel in the west end of Perth and I would stay here again.

Yelp
The Melbourne is an elegant bar on the outskirts of the CBD. The facade was built in 1897, and gives The Melbourne a strong sense of character. Unlike a lot of places that call themselves a "hotel", but are really bars, The Melbourne is an actual four-star hotel, as well as a bar and restaurant. The bar has a good range of beers, with James Squire featuring prominently. Which is no surprising, considering the James Squire logo is emblazoned on their fences outside. The bar has a very upmarket, yuppie feels, and most of the patrons seem to be workers from the CBD flocking to The Melbourne for a beer and a powwow. The food is typical pub grub, although more expensive than most places with similar menus. The Melbourne is a decent place for a beer, if you find yourself in the upper parts of Hay Street. However, there are cheaper watering holes towards the CBD.

Yelp
I attended a work lunch here on a Friday recently! Sat in the cafe area out the back. There is a bar area at the front as well as a more fine dining restaurant within the hotel. They also have accommodation available which I wasn't aware of. As far as the menu goes, it was huge, so much to chose from. I ended up choosing the Vegetable Stack which was delicious - a selection of grilled vegetables with a crumbed polenta pattie on the side! I would head back here again for the same dish. It was a large table on the day and no-one had any complaints about their food. There was a great selection of dishes around the table from salads, to steak sandwiches to pasta dishes. For such a large table our food came pretty quickly and the staff were happy to assist with our queries! Price-wise my food was $22.00 and was a large serving which I think for a pub type meal in the city is about standard.

Yelp
The cafe section of the Melbourne pretends to be a fine-dining restaurant during the weekday lunch period. Nice tablecloths disguise rickety lightweight tables and chairs and the expensive menu prices try to give the regular bistro menu more value than it deserves. The whole façade is obviously intended to capture some lunch business from the surrounding resource industry personnel and it succeeds in that goal. The smallish room fills up with people on the dot of 12noon and empties out again just as quickly at 1pm. The service is amazingly quick - to satisfy the resource workers that work long hours and to whom time means money. I haven't tried many of the dishes but I can advise that the tempura snapper is basically decent fish and chips with salad, the burgers are fine but cost over $20 and the grilled barramundi is nice but aims more for quantity than quality. Although I have been critical, I would eat at the Melbourne Cafe again as it is handy to my office, the service is fast and friendly, the food is ok and generally my lunches there are paid for by my company.

Yelp
This beautiful old building mostly plays host to men over 40 who work in the resources sector and talk about the stock market whilst eating steak sandwiches and drinking beer. I've held a few conferences in their rooms and they have always done a great job.

Yelp
Most unaccommodating hotel ever. We decided to stay another night, & they jacked the price of our current room way up. We decided we'd take the cheaper room two doors over. Rather than let us move our stuff into the new room, they expected us to pack up, put our stuff in storage or the car, check out of one room, & then check into the new room (all while they knew I have broken bones & am pregnant). Then they came & did an in-room inspection before we left. Humiliating & bizarre! 5 star is a joke!!! We just left. Also, the in-room dining choices were pathetic. Poor customer service from people who barely speak English. Rooms are small. The door was peeling apart. That's not 5 star. Never stay here. Go to Crown Towers for nice amenities.

Yelp
If I had a dollar for every time I confused this place with The Brisbane Hotel (in Highgate) I'd be the richest lost guy ever right now. I never seem to get it right, so most of my visits to the Melbourne have been alone, looking around awkwardly, making several trips to the toilet to pass the time. It's a classy joint, and fairly easy going. I like the heritage facade and salvaged interiors. Good for a few laid back drinks on a Sunday arvo.

Yelp
I've always admired this hotel/bar even if it is situated nowhere near its namesake. But I suppose we have the Brisbane Hotel in Perth also. Unlike the latter, this actually is a place of accomodation, and a really nice place to kick back and enjoy a beer even if you're not staying here. The Melbourne was built just before the turn of last century and its wonderful to see most of its heritage intact, unlike many other historic buildings in Perth which have had their best bits demolished and perhaps some pity excuse of a 'facade' only remaining. It's clean, white aesthetic means it also stands out amid the red-brick heritage buildings we're used to seeing in this city. Drinks are well-priced and the food on the menu all looks good, though I've yet to try any to be honest. Will have to make this a meeting place with a couple of friends to enjoy some bevvies and spot of pub grub, although grubby I strongly doubt the food will be.
