The Merrion (Dublin, Ireland) 5 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A look at the Merrion should go a long way toward dispelling any notions of absolute progress in design. This hotel, comprising four meticulously restored Georgian townhouses just across from the Irish Government, was designed in the Nineties, but in a remarkably authentic traditional style. Thus unlike some genuinely very old hotels, where every antique and scrap of lace is preserved where it lay like the preserved houses at Pompeii, the Merrion is consciously designed as an homage to the 18th century. This old-fashioned elegance exists side-by-side with all the luxuries of a modern hotel: Italian linens, marble bathrooms, and a rather more contemporary collection of Irish artworks from the 19th and 20th centuries. Also quite contemporary is the Merrion Spa, with an 18-meter swimming pool and and private treatments. Out back lies a classical garden by the famed Irish landscape artist Jim Reynolds — perfect for a quiet moment or a cup of tea. Two bars and two restaurants make for plenty of entertainment options, including the Patrick Guilbaud restaurant, noted by many as among Ireland’s best. How to get there: The Merrion is approximately a 30-minute drive from Dublin International Airport and a taxi ride can cost upwards of 35 euro." - Tablet Hotels

Missed the ferry so we came here for a bite to eat, and we were very glad we did. The staff were very friendly, the food was brilliant and not too expensive! Had a lovely vegetarian curry and my wife had fish and chips... Top stuff for sure, only knocked a star off for atmosphere because the football on the telly was quite loud but it wasn't really a big deal. Great stuff 😊

Came for food tonight after visiting across the road in Vincent's hospital. Very decent pint. Food was very good. Big portions. Steak was big and tasty. Pepper sauce one of the best I've had. Staff nice and friendly. Didn't catch their names. 2 lads and girl looked after me

Google
Very generous portions, food is delicious and the people are very friendly! Would recommend if you want to spend just a little bit more for a nice meal in a very nice part of the southside.

We had a family meal. My daughter ordered the Red pepper Risotto and raved about it. Very happy with her choice. Two of us ordered the Marinated Chicken Burger and were disappointed with the size of the Chicken breast in the burger and the chunky fries were a very small portion - It wasn't as good as the menu description. Also all four of us had the affogato ice-cream & espresso dessert, Amazing !! -Big portion and really tasty. They looked so good when they were served that some people at another table asked what we had ordered. The Specials board sounded very good so I think I would order from that on my next visit. - Service was friendly, and efficient. We will be back-:)

I can’t say enough good things! Staff were insanely kind and even more kind towards my 2 yo nephew who was getting restless. The gluten free fish and chips was so delicious and they have a great selection. Would highly recommend!!

Got the simple things right from the get go. No waiting for a table, server looked after us really well and was very attentive. Food was pub grub but of a good standard with ample portions. Free craft beer for Father's Day. Reasonably priced. You could do a lot worse. Will be back!

Google
Great pub to go to for a Sunday roast- delicious beef with all the trimmings (only thing missing was a Yorkshire pudding) .house crumble to die for. Very friendly front of house and I’d even say it’s got the friendliest staff in Dublin. Great place if you have children or babies and very accommodating with anything you need. Good pub if you just want a beer and burger and to watch the football :)

Yelp
I made a reservation online. The restaurant was busy, but I did not wait for my table. I ordered the pan seared cod, and it was quite delicious. It was light, yet filling, and had a great sauce it was served over. To drink i had the Bees Knees, which had great flavor without being too sweet. On my server's (Lucy?) recommendation I had the cheesecake for dessert. It was absolutely divine! I would come back, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks. The atmosphere was down to earth, with locals watching a rugby match. It was family friendly and had outdoor patio seating.Per the website, there was a time limit on table occupancy of 90 minutes.

Yelp
The Merrion Inn, for those who don't know, is the closest place for food to St. Vincent's Hospital. They were immensely kind to me last December when I was staying in the ICU with my sister in her final weeks. I'd nip out here every day or so. Though the place was packed, they'd always squeeze me in somewheres. And their seafood chowder was comforting on those cold winter days.

Yelp

Yelp
I can't drink beer, but there is some kind of cider! (Of course there is a lot of beer menu, too!) 2nd floor opens on weekend night. If you don't want to have dinner or something(just drink), you can go to 2nd floor bar. I think Merrion Inn is local pub, but there is high quality pub restaurant.

Yelp
Nice things first - the food is pretty good, though the 'restaurant' space is pretty small, so seats are at a premium when the rest of the pub is busy. They do a nice line in desserts. At weekends this traditionally was a hangout for local posh school kids, though you'd be more likely to bump into the teaching staff nowadays. If you like rugby you'll like it here. If not then maybe medical/clerical staff are your thing. Situated directly across from St Vincent's hospital this place fills up at lunchtime and on Friday evenings with beleaguered HSE staff.

Yelp
The Merrion Inn is a nice pub just across the road from St Vincent's hospital and the Merrion Centre. It's also where I go for the occasional quiet pint when the city centre seems too far away. Their soup is nice and it changes daily, and its less than a fiver. They serve dinner from 3.30pm seven days a week and they also have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, which is a big plus in Dublin. On match days it gets a bit busy but it's not as crowded as the pubs in town or near the RDS, so you're more likely to get a seat. Their pints are good and they have a good selection of 'world beers' of you fancy a change from the black stuff.

Yelp
The Merrion Inn keeps getting better - I recently had the chance to try a special - a chicken stir fry that was tasty and full of crunchy vegetables. Nothing to write home about in a restaurant, but very good for a pub. The reason for the extra star though is the knowledgeable bar staff. After trying one of the cheaper bottled beers (drinkable, but not great) the barman recommended some Monteiths Pilsner - a very drinkable New Zealand Pilsner - based on a quick description of the type of beer we were looking for. He hit the nail on the head, so I will have to go back for more suggestions :)

Yelp
It's not a bad pub...really, it has all the requisit things in all the requisit places..... but I can never get comfortable here. I've never eaten in the place - having read Adam C's review I will try next time I go in!

Yelp
Otherwise, inexplicably known as the M1, I believe, this is a pub that I really can't imagine being useful for anyone. It's smack bang in the centre of nothing-at-all. It's quite popular for 21st birthdays as the large private upstairs area can accommodate any and all the twenty-first conventions, such as finger-food, a DJ and all that jazz. Other than this I can't imagine why I would be here, it's grand, just not really convenient. So, three stars.

Yelp
Decent pub with a nice food menu. Food is a little bit expensive.

Yelp
Decent pub with friendly and efficient staff. The food it pretty good but nothing that would blow your mind. I got the slow cooked beef which was a little dry but the roast lamb that my friend got was fantastic, a great portion too. A decent meal but I wouldn't necessarily rush back.

Yelp
The service is always lovely and the food and presentation is on top! Never waiting for anything and the staff are very nice! Have eaten here 3 times now, twice for lunch and this time it was dinner and I have never been let down! Prices are reasonable too!

Yelp
What great food! Coeliac options available (lots of them), great service from the staff, handy location to transport and shops and a lovely place. Will definitely be returning! *pasta of the day....incredible!*

Yelp
Lovely pub with a great menu. Very friendly staff and the service was very efficient. I initially thought there were no vegetarian options on the menu but there was a choice of pasta or a chickpea stew. The stew was delicious. A pity it wasn't served with a side of bread for the tomato sauce but I was stuffed anyway! No tv on when I was there which is always a bonus in the pub.

Yelp
I came here with my wife and infant daughter for some lunch in the late afternoon. The waiting staff were fantastic and immediately found us a booth where we could sit and fit our pram in. The food was delicious - my slow cooked beef was wonderful and my wife had very tasty fish and chips. We followed that with an excellent sticky toffee pudding and a hot chocolate and mocha. Both the hot chocolate and mocha were made using gourmet hot chocolate and were truly excellent. To cap the whole thing off one of the staff walked all the way to the front door with us to open the door for the pram. I could not say enough good things about the service and food we received!

Yelp
The Merrion Inn's big problem is that it is really in the middle of nowhere. It attracts a crowd of lunchers and after-workers from St. Vincent's Hospital and the nearby Elm Park development. Still. if you're stuck on Merrion Road and want a reasonable pint, a good carvery lunch and a clean, wood-panelled setting then this is really your only option. I wish they would take the big digital scrolling sign board out of their front window though. TACKY.

Yelp
Found this place while on a Tesco run last year around lunch time. Their potato and leek soup is what had me coming back the second time. The lunch carvery is really pretty good, with a decent selection of dishes. They have an okay lineup of beers and sports on sometimes. Neither time I was here did the place really seem 'warm' though. It was just a pub, had some drinks and went back home. The restaurant is pretty small so sometimes it can be difficult to find seats. Like Quintin says, I just never settled in.

Yelp
Had a really nice burger and home made chips tonight in the refurbished bar. Great staff and lively atmosphere. Tasted the chicken goujons which were also delish. Will be back to try the chocolate brownie.

Yelp
Merrion Inn is my new favorite neighborhood pub. The space is very warm and comfortable. They have an excellent selection of drought and bottled craft beer. The food on all my visits has been excellent and a little more complex than your standard pub fare. I can't wait for the warmer weather to enjoy a pint in their back yard.

Yelp
Recommended as somewhere for a nice quiet drink and a bite to eat. Food has always been good in my experience. Not the cheapest place to eat or drink, but that's in part down to location I guess. Not the best pint of Guinness in Dublin either, but OK if you're not used to great Guinness, and plenty of other options available in any event.

Yelp
Great food with a fantastic choice. The Chicken supreme was sublime. The waiter we had was professional, extremely welcoming and very happy to help with any request. The interior is very tasteful and good choice of music. I would highly recommend the Merrion inn for a bite to eat and some drinks with a group big or small.
