"Though Ottawa boasts some famous grande dames, this modern boutique hotel downtown reopens this summer after a fabulous renovation. The peerless location, large rooms, and fresh in-room amenities such as jetted tubs remain the same (albeit a little facelift), but the addition of a new restaurant will surely cause some buzz around town for guests and locals alike. The open-plan lobby, at the ground floor of a five-story-high atrium that houses the rooms, has a striking industrial-chic vibe. It's not the most romantic property in town, but it's the most seamlessly on point. You'll sleep well, work easily, and be right in the middle of things." - Todd Plummer, Isa Tousignant

"We don't know much about this place—can you give us the scoop?Though Ottawa boasts some famous grande dame hotels, like the Fairmont Château Laurier and the Lord Elgin, this modern boutique hotel right downtown offers a peerless location, plus larger rooms and newer, fresher in-room amenities—including jetted tubs, 42-inch TVs, and an indoor pool. The open-plan lobby, at the ground floor of a five-story-high atrium that houses the rooms, has a striking industrial-chic vibe. We love it. And the other guests who are staying here—what are they like? This is a mostly business hotel, as Ottawa is a mostly business and civil-servant town—it's where Parliament is located, after all. The more romantic set might choose more storied properties, but the Metcalfe has a contemporary charm and user-friendliness that draws the travel-savvy. It's filled with repeat visitors. It makes sense that they'd want less pomp. Speaking of which: How was the service? The service here is friendly, helpful, straightforward, and accommodating. Onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs. Any room in particular we should book? The Executive Rooms have cushy beds, nice hardwood floors, spa showers, jetted tubs, a super-ergonomic office chair, and energizing views of Metcalfe Street. What about the mini bar, or the toiletries? Anything you were impressed with, and want to shout out?The wifi is fast and free, and the location—blocks away from Parliament Hill—is excellent. The hotel is located right in the middle of downtown and close to restaurants, pharmacies, cafés, and parking. That all sounds pretty ideal. What about the food situation? You can skip the restaurant, but there's an attached Starbucks downstairs as well as an in-room Keurig machine. The continental breakfast room service is adequate. Noted. Anything else you can recommend while we're here?Take a morning dip in the indoor pool. Bottom line: is it worth it to book a night here, and why?Save on money and gain on space at this modern property. It's not the most romantic in town, but it's the most seamlessly on point. You'll sleep well, work easily, and be right in the middle of things." - Isa Tousignant

The Tripadvisor rating for the Metcalfe Hotel (By Gray Collection) is well-deserved. A recent three-night stay in a two-room executive suite was a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Lots of closet and wardrobe space. The only nitpick I can make is the bathroom floor is unheated and the large window, despite the presence of a baseboard heater, can make the room a tad chilly. However, the large shower, complete with two rainfall heads, delivers a steamy experience quickly along with decent water pressure. ||Quite unassuming from the street, the hotel's presence is understated, however, once inside, the common areas are elegant and stylish. The large atrium design provides an open feel and adds to the grandeur of this boutique hotel. Breakfast at Cocotte Bistro was consistently outstanding, both in quality of food and service provided. ||Front Desk and Housekeeping staff are guest-centric, affable and accommodating.||All-in-all, The Metcalfe delivers a stellar guest experience at a reasonable price point.

What a beautiful hotel. The vibe in lobby/bar area is wonderful. Reception was helpful and friendly. Rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Only downside, my room looked over the courtyard and the ambient noise from the lobby/bar could be heard while trying to sleep. But a pair of earplugs solves the issue. Would stay here again!

Lovely historic building that feels different from your average "nice" hotel. Deco is classy and distinctive, and the basketball court is a big plus for a player like me - though the hoop was somewhat crooked. Two ping pong tables too. Will definitely come back next time I need a stay in Ottawa.

Stayed here for three nights for a work trip. Overall, had a good stay and was able to feel like I could relax and rest somewhere while I was travelling. The check-in process was fairly straightforward, and efficient. I was also able to check in earlier than the typical check-in time which I appreciate. The room is fairly clean and had everything I needed for my stay. They had a desk for getting some work done, there was a nightstand near the bed, there was an ironing board and iron in the closet, essential toiletries in the washroom, good amount of plugs everywhere, etc. They also let Uber Eats deliver up directly to your suite, which I find convenient. It was a good stay for the price and wouldn’t mind staying here again in the future.

The Metcalfe Hotel in Ottawa is a beautiful blend of old and new. The hotel’s stylish design, with modern touches and nods to its historic past, makes it stand out. The lobby alone feels like a space you could spend hours in, with its sophisticated décor and warm lighting. My room was just as impressive, featuring sleek furnishings and a comfortable bed that ensured a restful night.||In terms of location, it couldn’t be more convenient. I walked to Parliament Hill, explored the charming Glebe neighborhood, and enjoyed a stroll along the Rideau Canal. The hotel also offers easy access to Ottawa’s dining and shopping scene such as the amazing Cocotte Bistro inside the hotel. The Metcalfe offers the perfect mix of style and location.

We've stayed here twice now and love it for a staycation/getaway when you want to stay in a nicely decorated hotel rather than a boring gray box of a room. Everything has been perfect both times, they really put the thought into little details like having a corkscrew in the room, robes, slippers, excellent black-out curtains, lots of places to charge devices, extra toiletries such as makeup remover wipes, and so on. I think the location is perfect for anyone visiting Ottawa and wanting to be close to everything but not right in the chaos of the Byward Market. They've done a great job at keeping the old fashioned feel of the building, where the hotel feels like the place you're going and not just the place you sleep. The atrium and bistro downstairs are lovely and give a sort of communal feel. Service has been great - friendly and fast - both times. Haven't tried the gym. Finally check-out is at 12! I never see that in hotels and it makes such a difference to not have to rush in the morning and get to relax after a night out.

Great stylish hotel with wonderful vibe and comfy beds. Lobby is gorgeous with great seating and great music. Rooms are small but very comfy. The big issue is that some rooms face the street and you can hear the cars through the night. I’d recommend getting a room facing the courtyard and that would mitigate the street noise.

The property itself is very nice and conveniently located from many landmarks and places to dine. The staff was also excellent, particularly the housekeeping staff who were quick with a smile, a greeting, and to ask if there was anything you needed. It's possible there may have been been some renovations going on, but the gym seemed to be an afterthought. There was enough equipment to get a workout in, but astonishingly, there were no towels (though it appeared something might have been a towel rack) and no water available. With a few minor changes, some updating and the addition of more equipment it could be a nice space. Just was underwhelmed given the rest of the property seemed so well-appointed.
