The Metro Hotel

I needed a short stay in the city to visit friends and given how expensive hotels tend to be in SF and how Downtown SF is not so great anymore (not as many pedestrians, not a great neighborhood to walk around with all the stores closed, etc.), I decided to look for a place outside the typical Downtown area.||||The Metro Hotel turned out to be super charming and great for the value. Reservation, check in and check out were all very smooth. The staff at the front is very friendly, helping me hold my luggage when I arrived earlier than the check-in time and getting me an early check-in. ||||Location for this hotel is also great. It's on a main street so it was easy for me to Uber/Waymo/take public transportation to various parts of the city. Yet it's in a residential neighborhood that I felt safe walking around. There's also cafes, restaurants, and shops all within walking distance, so it was easy for me to get my morning coffee fix and run some personal errands.||||The only downside to this place is that it's in an old building in SF neighborhood. So there's no elevator, not much of a view outside the window, and the room size is small. You can easily touch the wall from the edge of your bed type of small. There's no amenities like fridge or microwave inside the room. There were limited power outlets. But, it is what it is and I personally felt the value for this place was great for the price I'm paying. I would definitely consider returning if I was running tight on budget and needed a nice, safe, clean place to stay in the city again.

AMAZING STAFF! We traveled and stayed with our 9 month old and the staff were always friendly and accommodating, offering to store milk in their fridge and ice packs in their freezer. They even held our stroller behind the front desk as well. Great location and walkable to many bars, restaurants, and shops. Again, the room was nice, but the staff will be the reason for our eventual return.

Loved it! Great value for money, considering SF prices. Great location. Very quiet. Well-appointed, recently done room. Friendly. Quiet for a city hotel. One has to understand that a boutique hotel has different advantages and limitations than a large one. Ticked all the boxes for us. Would definitely make the top of our list if we return to the city. (Btw, if you do stay there, go around the block to Beluna for coffee or a light meal. It blows every other cafe in the neighborhood into the weeds).

I love this hidden gem. I travel a lot, and this is a favorite. Close to awesome restaurants, shopping, transit - and the rooms are perfect. The staff are great at making you feel welcome, and are flexible to requests. I can't recommend the Metro hotel highly enough.

This is a great hotel, with super friendly staff, and a decent neighborhood where you can access everything easily! I booked my stay earlier this year because it was a few blocks away from The Independent. It was my first time in San Fran. The receptionist graciously shared some great locations to dine and see the sights. The lobby always smells amazing! The room has great art on the accent walls and nice little touches of decor/design (loved the huge wood ceiling fans and the vintage telephone). Although my room size was very small and services/amenities were low maintenance, the space was well clean and ventilated. As for the neighborhood, it has a hipster residential vibe to it. Lots of local parks, coffee shops, and bars right outside. Many classic San Fran style victorian houses to view along your way. A 10 minute walk away from Haight Street's "Vintage Village," and a 15 minute bus/bike ride to downtown. I really don't have any complaints about Metro Hotel. This is an affordable option for couples who are looking for alone time OR people that intend to be outside for most of their stay (and just need a decent space to rest and reset).

Stayed at The Metro Hotel from 05/08-05/10 and we were absolutely impressed with this hotel. The front desk workers were extremely helpful and nice. The room was very nice and well kept. No A/C but lots of windows to open and a large overhead fan to move air around. We were comfortable, even in an unusually hot stretch of days for San Fran. Lastly, the location is perfect to visit the city. You are three blocks from a light rail station that will take you pretty much anywhere in the city. You are a few minutes walk to the shops/restaurants on Haight street. There are a bunch of great bars, restaurants, and coffee shops within a few blocks of the hotel as well. We were blown away by this hotel. Do not stay downtown, this is the hotel you want to be at.

Stayed here at the start of our 2 weeks in California. The room was quite small/basic but very clean and good value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location near Alamo Square - safe, plenty of nearby bars / restaurants (in Haight/Hayes) and walkable to many areas of the city if you like to walk. We walked to Alamo Square, Place of Fine Arts, Cissy Park, Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown.

I was very happy here. The room was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, it's a great location near the park, excellent restaurants within a half block, and the price was good to great. Also, if you are here with another person and want to break away while your companion sleeps in, they have what looked like a nice garden. The downsides are the shower was smaller (maybe around 30x30), it took a long time to get hot water to the unit in the morning (2 minutes), the room's lighting was only so-so, and while my room was quiet from road noise I could hear noises from the hallway (but no one was loud late at night so it wasn't an issue). Overall, no major concerns, and the downsides were reasonable given the pricing and other benefits of this hotel. I'd gladly stay here again.
