THE MIDTOWN HOTEL Köln

The hotel is about a mile and a half from the cathedral. Walking distance to all the Christmas markets. The room is clean. The Breakfast is the basic continental breakfast not bad but not the best I have aeen. The staff for breakfast was very pleasant. What was not pleasant was the man checking us in or the manager who had to drive across town to let us in because it was after 5:00pm on a Sunday. Our key cards didn't work and he had to be called to let us in. My group stood in the inside doorway for almost 30 minutes. When I told him that this was unacceptable he barked at me that he had to drive across town to get there. It was a computer glitch and could not be helped. I suspect our cards were not programmed correctly by the person checking us in. The manager was extremely rude. Based on his rudeness, I would not stay here again. It was 6 pm on a Sunday and no one managing the front desk? Weird.

At 5:40 pm on a Sunday no staff were around and our keys were programmed incorrectly and did not work on the door. We had to call in a manager which was a 20 minute wait. When he arrived he said tech issues weren't his fault and had an attitude that we should be grateful that he came from across town. While we were waiting for him to fix things someone showed up to get checked in... Someone that would have arrived with no one to let him in out of the rain or get him checked in. And... Their response doesn't actually apologize for what went wrong or more telling their behavior.

A real “mid” hotel. Unfriendly staff, check in aside they wouldn’t even lift their head to acknowledge when entering or leaving. No coffee or tea in the room and access to the top floors left a lot to be desired. Too far from any real attraction.

It was nice. But, people smoke on the tarrace, and the smoke was coming in my room as well. Did not bother me that much, but for some people it is not good. I had to keep the terrace door ajar, as there is no AC. Other than that was good.

We arrived before lunch and the room was available which was perfect. Front of house very knowledgeable and helpful. Room well air conditioned, good size with comfortable bed. Shower room massive with decent toiletries. 20 min walk to the centre, great stay for a short break at an affordable price.

My wife and I stayed here for one night and it blew us away. The man at the front desk was extremely friendly and even made me confident in my broken German as he had to learn it coming from Croatia. The location is perfect and the room was spotless. The breakfast was very impressive, and also very fresh. The two ladies attending it seem to work very hard to keep it up and the options were great.

Catastrophic never touch this hotel this room its smaller than a student dorm and you pay the price of a 5 star hotel this feels like a max 3 star one. The bed squeeches so loud every time you move . The bed size is maximum 100cm wide which is not acceptable for any hotel to be honest unless its <30€

Friendly desk staff. Comfortable beds. No mini fridge in room. Rooms were provided with a bottle of water which was nice. Plenty of storage. The soap provided in the bathroom was of poor quality so definitely bring your own. ||Breakfast was ok. It seemed far too expensive for what it was- yogurt/bread/cheese/ eggs/ honey . One day we found mouldy yogurt/orange/crudités - they dealt with this swiftly and didn’t charge us for breakfast. ||Housekeeping didn’t come once during our 3 night stay. One of the chairs in our room had questionable stains on it. ||The gym looked very small and only had one set of weights and an elliptical machine.||Overall a comfortable stay. More 3 star than 4 star hotel. Was conveniently situated close to good shops and restaurants.
