Came here to see Dave Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7 and when I saw they were playing here my first thought was, "Wait where is this?" I'm used to seeing acts like this play at the typical small/medium sized venues in the L.A. / O.C. (i.e. The Observatory Santa Ana, La Santa, the Troubadour, Glasshouse, etc.), so I was intrigued to check this place out.
FIrst thing, parking; it's find it on the street, metered on Friday's until about 9 p.m. and you can use coins or your card to pay for it or download the app and pay for it that way. I was an hour and fifteen minutes early and found a spot to the left of the Nile Bar and there was 25 minutes on it. I did try adding more money to the meter via the app and the app said no, but if you use your card it will take your money until 9 p.m.
Inside the venue is really cute and charming and there's lots of historic photos on the wall that really make this place feel like you're in something special. Inside the theater it's got a real old timey theater layout with a rectangle sized room with interesting seats. I sat in the seat and can say, it's not an old timey size compared to venues like the Shrine, BUT it can be a little small for larger people. I'm a XL/XXL in petite size and it almost was a little snug up in row Q seat 7, but I was able to move around and go closer to the stage and was not stuck to it all night. The sound here is excellent in my opinion especially for an older venue. I think the layout of the room has something to do with that and I appreciate these old wooden speakers they had and would like to think it contributed to the excellent sound. Aside from that, the restroom was so cute and built for a people and population back in the 1940's so there's only three stalls.
I loved this venue and the staff were so polite and greeted us upon arrival and exiting. Seeing a concert here has a unique vibe for sure because of the movie theater set-up and historic feel (it felt like there were some ghosts sitting and dancing next to me) which makes it feel more intimate. Also, Inglewood! The only time I've been in Inglewood was to visit the Forum or You Tube theater and that's it. I still didn't know where the fuck I was in relation to those two venues and the airport, but I loved this little downtown area and had to use the restroom at The Nile bar across the way and that was ANOTHER WHOLE vibe that made me appreciate and want to know more and explore Inglewood.
