Yelp
Ever since coming to Camillus I wanted to try this place out. With my parents visiting, we had it three days in a row, so I think this is a rather extensive review.
First of all, the place is easy to miss, you could drive right past it and not know what it is/if it's open (please get a bigger OPEN sign).
I'm so glad we finally stopped in here though. It's so cute on the inside. A great place to not only grab some pastries and coffee to go, but to also get breakfast and lunch and sit down if you have time.
I talked with the owners husband who told me that everything is made from scratch, including the buns they use for their burgers and the bread used in their sandwiches. Everything they use is sourced locally as well (nice).
One thing that really stood out to me is how passionate the owners are about what they're doing there. They really enjoy what they do and strive to get better each time. It's apparent in a lot of the pictures I saw of this place, which is what really drove me to stop by and I'm so glad I did - I'm going to be a regular here.
I'll start off with the hot food.
My husband and I each had our own breakfast quesadilla. They took their time making them and it came out terrific. The sauce that came with it is a real nice touch. This reminds me of the kind of breakfast we'd have in Texas. Loved it and will get it again. I also want to explore the rest of the menu - chicken sandwiches, burgers, and the owners husband told me about pork belly that he makes, which usually sells out fast. I'll be keeping any eye out for it.
Now for the pastries:
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie - Perfect. Soft and chewy, great texture. They nailed a classic.
Chocolate Chip Cookie - Excellent. Great layers of texture between the dough and chips, buttery and chocolatey. So good.
Brownie - Decadent. I mean this in the best way possible, it reminded me of the box mix brownie that we all grew up on, yet it was all grown-up. Nailed it.
Pumpkin/Pecan Sticky Bun - We grabbed this while still hot. It was great - if you don't like this you need to get your mouth checked because something is wrong with you.
Scones - We had both the blueberry and chocolate variety. My parents loved the blueberry and didn't get to try the chocolate. I elected to get the chocolate, which I think are excellent on a cold day with a hot cup of coffee, which they source from the local Salt City Coffee.
Cannoli - I loved the cream and chocolate chip. The shell had good flavor, but wasn't as hard as a traditional cannoli's. I missed that crunch as I bit into it, but it wasn't soggy as if it had been left out. It just had more of a crumble than a crunch. Overall, still a very good pastry.
White Bread - My father took home a loaf and reiterated the entire weekend how good it's going to be when he makes French Toast with it.
My parents also took home with them a caramel apple pastry, a lemon bar, and a pecan-pie bar. I haven't heard from them yet on how they were, but visually, they looked great.
If you're in the area, check this place out. It's a great addition to Camillus. I'll def. be back.
