Not sure if this place is still open, or gone for good and soon to be replaced by a hipster pub or eaterie: it was one of my top ports of call as a train-obsessed adolescent way back in the late 90s. The man running it then was a sound, friendly chap and I got some great stuff from there. Hope he's doing well.

Good range of board games, card games, and miniature games. Includes a small range of Flames of War and a slightly larger selection of Bolt Action. Plus Warhammer etc of course. Good range of paints and sprays too. Gaming spaces out the back. Not the friendliest of staff, though.

Yelp
Dang do I wish I knew someone who built model airplanes. Or flew model helicopters. Or loved recreating battleships in miniature. Or just needed a lot of balsa wood or paint brushes. If I did, then I'd have an excuse to come back to Model Shop at least a few times for the craic; the shop owner is a warm, friendly sort who really enjoys his work. In the tightly packed but neat shop he enthusiastically sells, cajoles and demos all the goods on sale. I get the feeling that he's hand picked most of the stock in here, a great thing to think given the high quality of the models and accessories on the shelves. Perhaps as a concession to those shoppers not passionate about car bodies and propeller blades, there is a small corner dedicated to doll housery (though The Doll Shop on George's street seems to have that covered).

Yelp
Settle down boys the model shop is not filled with supermodels looking to be bought up as mail order brides har har, but it is filled with other types of models that boys sure do seem to love. For some reason in the early 1990s in America it was all the rage to send your students off to make dioramas of different events, and in fact one time my mom had to take me to 5 shops to find a model buffalo for a depiction of the wild west. That said I haven't really had much reason to head into a model shop since then, but being a boy (well I guess a man) my sister's husband loves airplanes and I was looking to get him a model and I happened upon this store. It's got all kinds of models that would just drive the boys mad. I'm talking all kinds of train things and everything ...

Yelp
There aren't many dedicated Model Shops around but that you'd find one on Capel Street isn't surprising. Capel Street is the type of place you get the gut instinct there'll be a Model Shop. The Model Shop is a real boys toys haven and if you have a male relative under the age of ten, you should borrow them as an excuse to peruse around all the miniature sports cars, World War Two soldiers, figurine aeroplanes, and tiny-town steam trains. And, having visited with a girl apparently they like toys too! Plus, they have a giant pink dolls house, which is sure to make the Christmas list of any girl you bring to the Model Shop. The owner, giving the exact opposite reaction to what you'd suspected, was not irritated by my browsing without the intention of buying anything, on the contrary he seemed pleased for someone to simply enjoy themselves in his shop.

Yelp
Visited this shop during the summer while in Dublin and I went in to have a look. The owner was very friendly but the shop has only one model kit,a Tamiya 1/16 Churchill.I had to buy something because I hate to walk out with nothing. He had a shelf with a minuscule selection of vajello paints so I got one. When at the counter I gave him a five euro note,he DIDDENT have change for it!!!So I had to scavenge a few coins in my pocket. If you are looking for kits id say go to marks models or the dublin model shop.

Yelp
Just a quick review. I needed materials for a movie prop project I am working on and as is typical in modern Dublin asking for something non-commercial is like asking for blood. Then I found this place. A little hive of greatness. Staff are wonderful and literally couldn't be more helpful. Also while I was there a few obvious "regulars" dropped in. It was so nice to be in an atmosphere like this while shopping in the city centre. Man I just need a reason to go back, might start building model aircraft. :)
