"Sprawled across nine connecting townhouses, you can’t get more traditionally English than The Montague, with its antique hanging tapestries and resplendent afternoon tea service. The British Museum is just a stone’s throw away, and a visit to Covent Garden (for shopping) or the West End (for shows) only a short taxi ride. If there was a theme, it would be opulence: The rooms are outfitted with thick velvet bedding and soft bathrobes, while the Cigar Terrace offers views of the hotel’s private garden as you learn the ropes from the in-house sommelier."

Loved it here! Absolutely fantastic stay, great location & amazing team of folks who run this establishment. The rooms are small but very well appointed. Bed and linens are amazing with room darkening curtains. Was able to sleep every night no problem. The staff were so nice and VERY VERY helpful. I wild stay here again

I loved this hotel. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. The staff is exceptional. The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood and very close to the British Museum. The rooms are small but extremely comfortable. The breakfast is very good. The tea room/patio is pretty and very comfortable. We enjoyed having cocktails there in the afternoon. The beds are very comfortable. My only complaint is I wish English hotels had better AC. I found this a common thing traveling through the UK . The Montague provides robes and slippers which are an added comfort while staying at the hotel. The Montague is definitely a gem in London.

I stayed here for 6 nights when I was in London and this was my favorite hotel I've stayed at to date! This hotel is near The British Museum in central London. First, I want to say that the customer service at this hotel is top notch! All of the employees will go out of their way to assist you with all of your needs. When I first checked in, I was offered a brief tour of the first floor by the concierge, something I highly recommend. My room was a split-level master suite and I had requested a walk-in shower. I'm happy to say that I made the right choice selecting a suite at this hotel as it was very spacious. Housekeeping also did a fantastic job in cleaning the room while I was away. The hotel also offers afternoon tea, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'd also like to give a shoutout to the following employees who made my stay memorable:||Graciano|India|Levente||Those of you who choose to stay here will be very pleased!

Our family of ten ( ages 11 months to 71) recently enjoyed superb service at this charming hotel. Staff went out of their way to welcome us and provide the best hotel service we have ever experienced. This all with smiles and passion! The food was excellent, the bar area delightful, and the location for walkers very convenient. We highly recommend this hotel to all who appreciate an intimate experience and we hope to return.

Google
Beautiful boutique hotel with a classic feel and high level of service. Staff was engaging and accommodating, whether at the front desk, concierge, restaurant, or servicing the rooms. Great neighborhood with many shops, cafes, and restaurants within walking distance (even for Americans), as well as easy access to public transport

From the moment we entered until the moment we left, the staff took wonderful care of us. They made dinner reservations, arranged taxi travel, and were always cheerful, polite, efficient, and eager to help. On different days we ate breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the hotel restaurant, The Blue Door Bistro, or in The Leopard Bar. We found the same excellent service there, plus the food was good. We happily recommend this hotel.

Google
We stayed here for anniversary and the staff was wonderful! From little treats to their kindness and delicious breakfast we had a wonderful stay! It was easy to walk all over the city- we walked one day to the Tower of London and back to visit various places! We also took public transportation. We loved this hotel!

The staff could not do more For us. They are so attentive and we have had the most incredible event for a bridal shower. Everett the supreme commander is so so fun and has made it so special for us. What an incredible outdoor space in the middle of London. An incredible day!

Yelp
This is a lovely hotel. I will absolutely stay here again. The concierge was so helpful and welcoming. Beautiful room and lovely linens. Hot water and plenty of it! Great AC. Beautifully decorated. Comfy robe and slippers. Fabulous location. I only wish we had stayed longer to enjoy more of the amenities.

Yelp
*this is solely for the service; food was excellent* I had booked the ultimate champagne afternoon tea as the highlight to end my vacation, but was sorely disappointed. There was confusion (mostly on my part) upon check-in regarding a deposit, but it was simply to hold a card in case of no-shows. The service started off great, but was gradually became infrequent. 50 minutes into my seating, I was in need of a refill of hot water for my tea, water, and my champagne (which the latter I would have been fine with not acknowledging). I was glanced past multiple times with a visible empty glass of water and tea pot until I requested the server in passing coming back from the bathroom to ask for refills of liquids, as well as sandwiches, as unlimited food is supposed to be included with the experience. The next time I was checked on was a little past the time limit (30+ minutes later), and proceeded to wait another 40+ minutes until a shift change occurred where a new server finally checked in on me (well past my 90 minute window). I asked if I could have one more glass of champagne since I hadn't been checked on for a long time, and overheard the manager upset, yet not checking on me to inform me himself or ask for context as to why I still hadn't been checked out. I was reassured by the new server that I shouldn't have needed to walk to the bar to ask for service because I apologized thinking I needed to rather than waiting like a sitting duck the past 40 minutes like a fool at my table. She apologized as clearly there was miscommunication with the staff regarding zoning handoff during their shift changes. This review is not based on her. If anything, she was a relief to finally provide context so I could ask for the check and finally leave. With the already included gratuity, this experience is NOT WORTH whatsoever. To clarify, this review isn't about how much "unlimited" I received during my reservation, but that the service was severely lacking the further into my reservation time it got. I knew it was well past my time, but I felt horribly unwelcomed by what I overheard and wanted to leave as soon as I could after paying my bill, but the service charge is wholly not deserved, let alone the initial price. I would have contested the service charge had I not already felt mortified and uncomfortable about staying at my table any longer than necessary. It left a terrible taste in my mouth to the end of my vacation, and I am genuinely upset to have wasted 184£ and my time on this afternoon tea experience. I do not recommend!

Yelp
During my recent trip to London, an afternoon tea experience was a must! After some research I came across Jazz Afternoon Tea at The Montague. It was such a delightful experience and the staff were so attentive and understanding. Due to heavy traffic we were 30 minutes late to the hotel, but they still honored our reservation anyway. I immediately loved the atmosphere. In addition to being very welcoming and chic, the jazz music really set the tone for a relaxing afternoon after rushing to get there. The half covered terrace was perfectly shaded with a nice view of the adjacent garden. Our waitress Mia was perfect and offered us a cocktail as soon as we settled in, which was included as part of the price. It was akin to a cosmopolitan with its fruity sweetness. We then ordered three pots of tea: Assam, Chocolate Spice, and Jasmin Green Tea.  A lady in our group had some dietary restrictions and Mia was so fastidious in making sure her needs were met. She brought her her own tower of  sandwiches and desserts that she was able to enjoy. We shared a good laugh with Mia when we asked her the proper way to eat a scone. She told us to just "whack on" the clotted cream and we lost it. All of the sandwiches and sweet treats were delicious! My favorite of the sandwiches was definitely the smoked salmon with the cucumber being a close second. The carrot cake was my favorite dessert. I also loved how freaking cute the tiny fruit tart was! It was also too adorable to eat.  If you're in London I cannot recommend this experience enough. Even without the jazz component (I believe this was a one-off event), it will be the perfect afternoon treat.

Yelp
Scone soft and warm, clotted cream great. Portion was good. Tea cool down fast with the glass tea pot, recommend using porcelain teapot or use a teapot burner to keep the temperature. Excellent environment, convenient location.

Yelp
One of best hotels and restaurant in London plus great service by friendly staff. Would recommend to everyone!

Yelp
The pictures showed such a cute and quaint place. We came in on a Thursday, so luckily it wasn't crowded. It's inside the hotel and we were directed to the tea gardens. Since it was winter/rainy, the gardens were actually closed. But, the room we were seated in had a big sky light and there was plenty of natural light inside. The servers typically leave you in the room, but they visit often so that you don't feel abandoned. They brought out a very handy box with all the different teas so that you can smell them. We ordered the four scones set and our tea. The four scones were amazing. They give very generous servings of clotted cream. We were impressed with their tea pots as well. The pots were well-made for loose leaf teas and prevented over seeping. The set up was beautiful and the service was quick and attentive. We enjoyed our time and loved the scones and tea. I would definitely recommend to make a reservation. We just happened to get lucky with no one coming out on a rainy day. The lobby had a hot chocolate bar and plenty of waiting space. From the ambiance alone, I felt like we were in for a nice treat. I would love to come again soon.

Yelp
In London for just a few days with my (adult) daughter. She wants traditional English afternoon tea. All the well known places are booked for weeks, but the Montague at the Gardens has room. Gas It is a lovely hotel, and the restaurant is at the back with lovely windows. You don't really see the gardens, but there is plenty of green. We were in a sun room with lots of lights and lovey plants. Traditional afternoon tea offers about 10 selections, herbal, green and black all available. There is also an option for a glass of champagne. The tea comes in beautiful individual pots, and make sure to use the strainer! The food is lovely. Four small sandwiches each (chicken, egg, salmon and cucumber), 2 scones, one plain, one fruited with clotted cream and strawberry jam. And a plate of sweet treats, including a carrot cake, chocolate cake, cheesecake and macarons. I think you can get more of anything if you like, but what we had was plenty . The staff was very friendly and attentive. Made us feel very welcome. It was a lovely relaxing afternoon, and you don't need to plan weeks in advance.

Yelp
Went here for afternoon tea while visiting London with the family. The tea & food was good. They did a nice job accommodating my son's food allergies. Unfortunately the service was not good at all. Initially the staff seemed helpful. However after we received our tea and food, we never saw a staff member again until we were ready to pay. We were told we would be able to order unlimited tea & food but we never had the chance as we were ignored for over an hour. We never even received the still water we had asked for at the beginning of the service. Overall, we were made to feel unwelcome and unworthy. It was quite expensive. I do not recommend anyone else pay £55 a person to be made to feel like you aren't good enough for the Montague.

Katrina G.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. Like many other reviewers I booked through Costco Travel. A check of other travel sites also has Montague on the Gardens rated extremely high. The staff is amazingly gracious. The hotel is clean, the rooms are nicely appointed and the afternoon tea was a treasure. It's conveniently located on a quiet street across from the British History Museum and in walking distance to the lively theater district, Covent Garden and Leceister Square areas for day and night time entertainment and shopping. Other areas of London are easily accessible via Uber, taxi, or public transportation. I liked that at night when we were ready to crash that this property was away from the busy areas. Definitely a gem.

Yelp
I went here for an afternoon tea. All of the rooms are super eclectic and different. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing. I had the Elderflower Blossom Darjeeling tea and the scones. The tea was some of the best tea I've ever tasted. It had a nice mild taste of elderflower and was refreshing. The tea pots are super neat looking as well because you brew your own cup according to the little timer. I had the cheese, chocolate, original, and apricot cinnamon scones. They were all really good and came with a couple jams and chocolate. The cheddar was by far my favorite one though. The staff here was incredibly friendly though and overall it was a quaint/relaxing afternoon tea.

Yelp
What an absolutely wonderful stay at your hotel! My husband and I were extremely pleased with the service, comfort and quality we received on our trip to London. Our stay at The Montague on the Gardens surpassed our expectations and it set a new bar for our future stays abroad. Every single hotel representative, I mean every single one was attentive, friendly, professional and treated us like family. Next time we are in London, you can expect us to stay with you! Ohh and let's not forget the Leopard Bar, that was amazing as well!

Yelp
We booked our vacation through Costco Travel and Montague on the Gardens was the most affordable hotel option that they offered in this very expensive city. It was very quaint and charming. The staff were all very friendly and I feared that our room was going to be a closet, but it was actually quite spacious for us. We had a queen size bed, desk, large deep sofa, and bathroom with the shower over tub combo. They even treated the tub with a coating to prevent slipping. Each room comes with a little thank you note, but because we were also celebrating our first anniversary, they also had the staff sign a happy anniversary card and provided us with a Happy Anniversary greeting on a platter in chocolate with macaroons and fruit. Good location not in the hustle and bustle of things to ensure that you get a good night's sleep, but across the street pretty much to the British Museum, close walk to good restaurants and the tube. And the box of assorted homemade biscuits they leave for you in your room upon check in were delicious! Complimentary full English buffet breakfast, delightful tea service and the Blue Door Cafe serves up a wonderful dinner with attentive and friendly service as well. We usually gravitate towards mod hotels, but Montague on the Gardens was a winner and we would consider staying here again if we return to London.

Yelp
We booked a last minute trip to London, and my husband opted to stay here. I ordered some items from ASOS, and I decided to have them delivered to the hotel. The hotel was accommodating, and my package arrived safely. When one of the items didn't fit well, I wanted to return it to ASOS while still in the UK. The hotel helped me out by giving me tape and putting the return in the post for me. Our room was quaint; I liked the high ceilings and the carpet. The bed was comfortable, too! The Montague is in a great neighborhood, and we were able to walk to a few places from our hotel. What made the Montague great was the staff; I'd definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Yelp
Last minute random trip to London and I needed a place to stay- this looked like it had good reviews so I said why not. Prior to getting to London, the hotel was gracious enough to keep in contact with me when I had noted that I'd be coming in early in the morning and that early check in might be iffy. Once I arrived, they had a room available so I lucked out. They gave me a tour of the whole hotel prior to getting me situated in my room, which was nice. The hotel isn't large by any means and is definitely British. It's also conveniently located across the street from the British Museum, so that's a plus. The ski lodge themed bar was amusing, as was the hawaiian tiki theme bar they have as well. Only downside to those bars is that I think they close down at night, which was a shame. The normal bar is ok, but the themed bars are where you wanna be. The room itself is small, mine barely fit a double bed and a TV, but the TV you get is large and new. The walls were padded and very pink, as if I was in Barbie's dream house. The bathroom was small as well, but it was well equipped with everything you could need, including some robes. The bed was on the firm side, but I prefer that so I had no issues. The staff left me a little treat one evening, some chocolates- which was very much appreciated. The gym is pretty much some cardio stuff- but they do offer passes to a nearby gym if more is needed. I didn't use it, but it was nice that it was available. In the evenings it was calm and relatively quiet, so that was nice to come home to. I'm not a fan of walking into a hotel that transforms into an ultra lounge in the evenings. Call me old. If you want a quintessential British hotel experience, this is it.

Tess H.

Yelp
This has to be my favorite hotel ever! I've traveled to a lot of cities and countries and I absolutely loved the stay here. I booked this hotel through Costco Travel and we had afternoon tea included in our booking! The hotel itself is small but quaint. The Montague was quintessentially British and it was so adorable. The rooms were more spacious than I thought. I loved that they left us a nice welcome note with a box of cookies and chocolate eggs (we stayed Easter weekend). The staff was super welcoming and very polite. They would hold the door for us when we enter the hotel and greet us with a smile. The room was always clean every time we came back from a long day adventuring in the city. I loved the Full English Breakfast (sausages, ham, potatoes, beans) at the Blue Door Bistro (restaurant in the hotel) and I was so glad that daily breakfast and tea was included! The afternoon tea was yummy and we got to choose four scones (plain, fruit, apricot and cinnamon, gluten free, chocolate, or cheese) of our liking. They also show you a box of different teas so you can even smell them before you choose the tea you want. One of the best things about this hotel was that it is centrally located by a lot of the main attractions in London. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel and the train station isn't too far from the hotel. The British Museum is right outside so check that out (it's free!). Soho and Chinatown was about a 10-15 minute walk and there's so many nice restaurants and bars in the area. Oxford St. is also close by so you can shop! It's also close to the West End and there's a ton of theaters that are walking distance if you want to watch plays. Thank you for the hospitality, Montague on the Gardens! You made my stay in London a very memorable one!

Yelp
My partner and I stayed at The Montague On The Gardens while we were transiting through London for a night, and overall, we felt that it was a very nice example of a quaint and charming London hotel. The staff at this hotel was very friendly. Even for just a night or two, the bellmen remembered our names and were always accommodating and helpful. The prices here are unfortunately rather standard, the cheapest room starting £199. For whatever reason, they upgraded us to the third highest category, a deluxe king. For downtown London at £199, it was absolutely fantastic. Soaring ceilings added a really nice touch. Contrary to the title of this hotel, we are actually right on the street and not on the garden in the back (which you can't walk on anyway because it's a different property). At first I thought it would be kind of annoying during the night with people and cars, but this is actually a rather quiet part of London, right opposite Russell Square. The lines and pillows were nice, but the "king bed" is actually two twins mattresses put together. The location is right across from the British Museum and I felt it was walkable to a lot of different sites. You're well-positioned, and Euston Station is about a 10-15 minute walk. For a downtown London hotel, The Montague On The Gardens is very nice. I haven't seen the smallest room that they have for £199, but their higher category room was very nice. The rooms were gorgeous and the staff definitely understood customer service than a lot of other British hotels we stayed at. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its uniqueness and the "something different" than just Hilton over and over.

Mike M.

Yelp
Great staff, great food, great service, great hotel! An awesome hotel and staff. You will be treated like Royalty at the Montague and it's an excellent location to boot. Great breakfast, great restaurant and bar. Walkable to shopping and theater district, across from the British Museum and close to 2 underground stations. The staff is amazing. This is one great place to stay. We'll be back!

Yelp
i love this hotel. full of charm and tradition. from the service to the super comfy bed, i loved every bit of it. some might find this hotel outdated with its upholstered walls and carpet for miles but i just adored it. you can find contemporary hotels that look exactly the same in every city but it's hard to find hotels now that are steeped in tradition. don't get me wrong, the rooms have everything you would want in our modern times and are very clean but, with the flair of the old english. i just loved our stay here. conveniently located to everything.

Emily W.

Yelp
We had a very pleasant and welcoming high tea! They asked about our dietary needs right off the bat and had attentive staff who all had great welcoming service. Our server Alma was fantastic!

Lauren H.

Yelp
Quiet and convenient location (right by the Russell Square stop off the Piccadilly Line), very good service all around, and nice extra touches for the nights I was there (biscuits one night, a little sprayer of essential aromatics the next). I understand many hotels in London are small, as are lifts, so I don't fault them for it, but my single room barely fit my bag along with me and the furniture (and when I was on the loo my knees pretty much hit the bathtub) and I could barely fit myself and the bag on the lift. That said, I got a good price on the room, so all is good. I would recommend staying there, but would say spend a little extra for a bigger room.

Lisa L.

Yelp
I loved this hotel! The service was fantastic from beginning to end. The food was good, they had a live band one night which was great. The room was cute, quaint and comfortable. I will definitely come back. They make guests feel special.

Michele D.

Yelp
Perfect...lovely Downtown Abbey like lobby, cool Leopard Bar, has a hip 50s kind of vibe, cigar lounge on the terrace Outstanding staff , helpful with directions, restaurant suggestions, will even mail post cards for you if you go old school. Our room was pretty, spotless, well appointed with excellent water pressure. It was a bit small for two people for four days, so the next time I will upgrade. Oh, the location is wonderful ,blocks from the British Museum and an easy 15 minute stroll to Coventry Garden Class act..loved it

Greg H.

Yelp
This was our first trip to this wonderful establishment. Every aspect of our stay was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The concierge was extremely helpful. And Declan who was in the restaurant was fun and friendly. Excellent place to stay.

Asai M.

Yelp
The best afternoon tea experience in UK. I was looking for a place to enjoy my last afternoon tea before I leave UK and I found this place with excellent reviews. It was Wednesday afternoon a little after 3pm, no reservation. I was by myself. They welcomed me and took me to the outside seat where very quiet and nicely setup with flowers. They brought me samples of loose tea leaves for me to try before deciding which tea I liked. I picked apple elderflower infusion tea with traditional afternoon set. The tea was so flavorful and spot on. All the food was delicious. Scones were one of the best I've had mango mousse was amazing. The service was exceptional and I was treated like someone very important. I highly recommend this place.

Joy D.

Yelp
My #1 priority visiting London was to have afternoon tea in Britain! My co-worker and I chose Montague on the Gardens for afternoon tea due to its proximity to our office and its affordability. Since the restaurant is part of the Montague hotel, they will ask you if you'd like to have your bags and coat checked at the front desk. They have a few different themed rooms, all which are lovely. I opted for the Traditional Afternoon Tea for 28 pounds, and my friend ordered the Scones Afternoon Tea for 16 pounds. The Traditional Afternoon Tea includes a beautiful three tier spread of finger sandwiches (egg salad, Smoked Scottish salmon, chicken sandwich, and cucumber cream cheese), scones with clotted cream and preserve, and pastries, and a pot of tea. My friend's scone combo allowed her to choose 4 scones and she ended up getting the plain, chocolate, and savoury cheese, and also swapped hot chocolate in place of her tea. The wait staff's English is very difficult to decipher because they aren't from Britain, so we just pointed at what we wanted on the menu. On top of that, the food itself was rather mediocre. It was more of a feast for the eyes. However, my friend LOVED her hot chocolate, so apparently that's the thing to get! I'd say if you're looking for a cheaper afternoon tea and don't have a preference for the quality of food, the Montague will perfectly suffice. However, if I were to come back to England, I'd dish out a little more (two to three times more) and do afternoon tea at the Ritz.

Jennie C.

Yelp
Extremely helpful and very lovely staff. Everyone is so attentive and full of smiles. The hotel itself is a bit dated (grandma's foyer) but it adds to the charm if you're looking for something very British. I had some lovely pastries waiting for me in my room (Bea's too!). If you're here on a corporate stay/business trip they pay extra attention to the details. I was greeted with cupcakes that had my company logo on them! :)

Laura A.

Yelp
My friend and I had a perfectly wonderful experience here. We were certain that her many dietary requirements (vegetarian, very allergic to not only gluten but almonds) would prevent us from having a true English high tea during our trip to England. The Montague served her an amazing traditional tea- tea sandwiches and scones included- and the service was excellent!

Sarah T.

Yelp
Amazing hotel in London. Customer service was fantastic-everyone who worked there was very friendly. The downstairs bar area was great after a long day of sightseeing. We went around Christmas time and the decorations were just gorgeous. Will always go back to this hotel-love!!

J K.

Yelp
Staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a great neighborhood in Bloomsbury and next to the British Museum. I took my family here over Christmas and had a full-on traditional Christmas dinner complete with paper crowns and poppers. There are a lot a areas to explore in the hotel including a small lounge with live jazz combos. You be well taken care of.

Ryan W.

Yelp
I stayed at the Montague for work event after travelling transatlantically and I could not have been more impressed. The concierge was very helpful and pointed me towards the nearest nail salon (not something I necessarily expect them to know!) and I ever got complimentary cookies from the manager to welcome me to the hotel. The room was lush with fabric wallpaper, large screen tv, desk and the cutest little reading nook up in a raised area of the room. The hotel faces on to a private garden so it is very quiet. I was able to print out the documents I needed on a complimentary printer in the lobby and there is free wifi throughout the hotel. I ordered room service as I was exhausted and they were more than happy to let me have anything off the main restaurant menu and not just from the room service menu. Also if breakfast is included in your rate you can have your breakfast in bed for no extra charge! I enjoyed my stay and hope I will be able to stay again soon. If you are in London for a theatre break it is continently located for most West End Shows and only a 15 minute cab ride from Paddingon station and direct links to Heathrow. This is not a big mass, market chain but a boutique hotel that takes care to detail and recognizes you for the individual you are.

Elena P.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Afternoon Tea. Getting the girls together for an afternoon of sophisticated tea sipping and cake nibbling. What's not to love? The picture of the conservatory at The Montague looked great on their website, but unfortunately i can't review this as we were put in the restaurant. We could just about hear the piano tinkling in the background but it wasn't the same. They have a nice lounge area too but i think there were just too many of us (6) to fit. Afternoon tea is £17.50 ish, or £24.50 for a glass of champagne. It consists of: a pot of tea; a selection of finger sandwiches; scones, cream and jam; and pastries. All quite tasty but they weren't very quick to replenish empty tea pots or plates. Also another niggly thing - the tea wasn't served in china cups! They were those nasty short ceramic mugs that stack. The kind you get in hotels and B & B's across the land. Yuk! This place is perfectly located if you fancy afternoon tea after a trip to the nearby British Museum, or a shopping spree around Tottenham Court Road.

Brian A.

Yelp
Great location, and elegant settings. Literally adjacent to the British Museum, and a short walk away from Covent Garden or the West End. The staff was quite friendly, although the conversations seemed awkward at times. But they were absolutely spot-on at handling requests. Afternoon tea was fun and tasty, albeit pricey. But you get a lot of pastry for the cost, and the location is very relaxing. What held this hotel back for us was the room. Although our room was supposed to be a "classical double", a step up from the "classic single", I can't imagine how it could have been smaller. And I've been in some small rooms. There was no place to put our luggage, and the clearance between the bed and walls was so narrow that we could never pass each other and had to navigate like a puzzle game. The furnishings were fine, but it made the overall experience a bit claustrophobic. Maybe we got the single by accident?

Amy L.

Yelp
Amazing retreat in a central location in London. After a two week work trip through Europe, this was exactly the respite I needed. The staff was amazing on check in when I arrived. I think i looked haggard enough but smiling that they have me an upgrade to have a garden view! The room was small but decadent. It was the first comfortable bed I'd had for weeks. The bathtub was truly luxurious. Also, being across the street from the British Museum is a definite perk. I'd highly recommend this hotel to any tourist or weary business traveler like me.

Yelp
An excellent, warm and welcoming hotel. Everything is beautiful, but most importantly the staff goes above and beyond. Little touches include delicious complimentary tea in the lobby (complete with a timer so you know when it is steeped!) My husband came down with a cold during our stay, and the staff was wonderful about moving us to a room with seperate beds to lessen my chance of catching his bug. They were incredibly gracious about it; we greatly appreciate their thoughtfulness.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights through Costco travel. Upon arrival our room was not ready but were offered complimentary coffee and tea while we waited. The room was clean and cozy. Our package included free daily English breakfast, 3 course dinner and afternoon tea. On our last morning we realized we did not have our afternoon tea so we asked if they could prepare it for us before we left and they did! Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Montague.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this hotel and the service provided by the great staff including Aaron, Mark and Jay. They were able to upgrade us to a much larger room (huge!) and provided us with restaurant recommendations. The room itself was awesome, set up like an apartment with a living room area and separate bedroom with 2 bathrooms and private street entrances and terraces. The location was convenient as we were able to walk to London eye and other attractions. Strongly recommend staying here if ur considering such!

Yelp
Pretty pricey for tea time, but pretty reasonable compared to other places at around 30 pounds a person (~$45 USD) Great service, friendly waitstaff and beautiful place to sit and enjoy tea time The rooibos orange & cinnamon green tea was delicious, but otherwise I didn't enjoy the assorted pastries or finger sandwiches too much. If you want to catch footage of the hotel, I have a video on my blog here: http://youtu.be/lshhrW1-yK0

Yelp
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Customer service is on point. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. The ambiance is traditional British style and beautiful. Love love love it here.

Yelp
We couldn't have been more pleased with this little jewel of a hotel! We love the entire staff! My husband slipped, fell and broke his ankle on a wet gangplank the last day of our cruise. The INCREDIBLE staff provided us with a wheelchair so that we could explore the area and British Museum right around the corner. It made all the difference in what was already our sadly compromised situation. The concierge snagged us center orchestra theater tickets for a top show that night. Their efforts helped to lift our sagging spirits the very first day. The hotel is adorable with little amenities that you would expect in a much more expensive hotel. Their attention to detail is amazing. The decor is charming and very British. There are a number of dining rooms and spaces, some outdoors & all charming. The waitstaff is incredible. We had some of the best meals in London right there in the hotel. They deserve every glowing review! We will return to London to see all that we missed, and will Definitely be staying at the Montague!

Yelp
Just stayed here for a few nights and really enjoyed my stay. The staff and service is amazing. The room wasn't as big as I thought it would be and had to pay for valet parking (£28 for 24 hours) but I suppose we are in London. The food was fantastic and would come back again. I'm from Manchester so used to bigger and cheaper. Overall a great place to stay in a more peaceful and relaxed part of the city only a stones throw away from the museum.

Yelp
After spending a month looking, researching hotels online, my daughter had her heart set on staying at the Montague on the Gardens Hotel for her first trip to London. She tried to book a room online, but was confused between the exchange rate and didn't realize that she couldn't afford it for all three nights. She wrote to the hotel asking for help without success, so I tried writing, but the responses I received from a reservation agent and the assistant to the manager were that they could not provide a room for my daughter's $500 budget and that we should go elsewhere. On their website, however, it shows that they have rooms for $310/night. They could have suggested that she stay for one night. Their attitude was that they didn't want our business. They could have said that they hoped we would stay at their hotel in the future at least.

Yelp
I wasn't even staying here, but I popped in for a quick question. Gentleman behind the counter not only answered it with aplomb, but even printed me a map and made a call on my behalf without my even asking. Proper chap, brilliant service.

Yelp
A very nice hotel. They have toned down their staff and we no longer received shouted greetings every time we passed through the lobby! What a relief! Bar is very good. A real bartender who can actually mix proper drinks. Still, the bar area is too small for a piano and a nightly husky singer. Breakfasts continue to be good and despite being surrounded by excellent restaurants we ate in the dining room. It was good, not great. Perfectly OK if it's raining hard outdoors. The Wi-fi worked flawlessly. We will be back.

Yelp
We have stayed at Montague at the Gardens on three separate occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this hotel on each visit. The customer service is outstanding. The staff goes out of their way to look for opportunities to meet the needs of their guests. We have not stayed at a hotel with better customer service and attention to detail. We love the location and convenience to many sites. It is a very good hotel value for London. We plan to return in the near future.

Yelp

Yelp
Great place to have afternoon tea. The service is impeccable and the scones and tea are delicious!

Yelp
We stayed here for several nights, and had a wonderful experience. The cozy feel of the hotel comes from the staff, the decor, and the attention to detail. We had a packaged deal, and a few things included in our stay, which the staff happily accommodated. The afternoon tea service was exceptional. Also, across the street is the magnificent British Museum (free entry), so be sure to stop by if staying at this hotel. This place is fancy, yet friendly.

Yelp
If you're a wealthy little person then this hotel is for you! Enjoy a non-complimentary breakfast after a wonderful night's sleep on a Flinstones era mattress. All for a steal at $700 a night on a Monday.
