We managed to book a table for our group of 8 and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of seats in the front with a direct view of the sea and harbour and also a lovely big dining area upstairs. The restaurant is located perfectly on the busy promenade where it's very central but not too loud. The service was great and the food well made and tasty. Everybody had a good time!

Great breakfast and lovely coffee. We visit whitby every year and this is the first time we’ve been into this place. Staff were great and we enjoyed the breakfast (apologies for the half eaten breakfast, forgot to take the photo first!).

The moon and sixpence was our go to cocktail/mocktail spot after dinner every night, as I don't drink alcohol it was great to find somewhere that put as much effort into the mocktails as they did the cocktails and it really showed in the taste. The staff were really friendly and it's location is fantastic right on the water. We also stopped here for lunch one day and had the chunky slow cooked beef chilli loaded fries and the cheese and bacon loaded fries which were both great. Next time I visit Whitby I'd like to eat here again for more than a light lunch as the other food looked brilliant

What a lovely spot, walked past this place about a hundred times, had a coffee but never food. Table was lovely, staff really professional and friendly. Totally handled the drunk punters! Relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious and plenty of choice. Wine was really good too Scampi and cheese fritters for starters Mac n cheese and halloumi mains, then followed the food coma 🫣 Great night, would definitely go back and we'll worth a visit.

Ate here as a family on the last night of our trip (between Xmas and NY) The staff are really great, friendly, professional. The food was just ok, 4 of us had tacos...some extra bits on the tacos would be nice...there was just a bit of cabbage and two fried prawns. The boys said the burgers were good though! Don't recommend the cheesy fries 👎🏼 All in all, pleasant evening but wouldn't come back for the food.

Visited here whilst away in Whitby for New Year 2025. 6 of us went in to have some food and drinks a couple of days after new year. The place was very quiet probably due to the time of year. My partner went to sit down and there weas a large puddle of water on the seat and some ice, not a problem. I just asked the barmaid would she mind wiping the seat so we could sit down. I couldn't believe the look she gave me and the large huff. I was gob smacked. We all immediately left. I'm pretty sure small hospitality business can't afford to loose the custom of 6 people in a very quiet period of the hospitality season. We will not be returning.

We have visited The Moon & Sixpence a few times now on our weekends away. We have nothing but good things to say, the food is amazing and service is second to none, the staff are very attentive. Now..... Serious note, these cocktails are very addictive and the manager who creates these delights is always welcoming. Thank you for a lovely time. Good luck with the new cocktail menu (we went goth weekend it was amazing)

We have visited Whitby for a number of years and wanted to try somewhere different for our evening meal. Unfortunately the price of the evening menu here does not reflect in the quality of the food. Me & my husband had the pork belly and prawn soft tacos. There were two very small tacos each containing 3 pieces of filling in each. Costing £15 per plate with no sides included. The sides were an additional cost. Our friends had numerous small plates which consisted of the pork belly bites which were dry and chicken wings with a very minimal drizzle of sauce over wings which were not marinated. The hand cut chips were delicious and chicken strips were ok but on reflection we could of paid much less else where for better quality food and much bigger portions. Upon payment the service wasn’t great either. There was no question of if we enjoyed our meal and was asked to tap our card for payment with no prompt of the total. Which in addition to a disappointing meal left us having an overall poor experience. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Yelp
Superb place. Great food and a fabulous atmoshere! The burger was outstanding and there was a good selection of wines. It probably helped with the ambiance for me that my ancestors lived in this building in the 1890s!

Yelp
What a great little find. Located right in the harbour we were lucky that the evening was warm and we moseyed up at the right time to catch a table - as later many had their drinks stood on the pavement it got so busy! We treated ourselves (we were on our hols so why not) to some oysters with our drinks. Everything was beautifully presented, but not in an in your face I'm so fancy way, just classy and laid back. The waiter was super friendly and chilled out. I'd be back to Whitby, and the moon and sixpence, in a heartbeat.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us, so we decided to give it a try. We were very pleasantly surprised! The restaurant that was in this location previously was dire, so it was fab to have a new place to have a nice meal when visited Whitby! The restaurant has 2 levels and we were seated on the lower level with a view of the harborside. It was also a story night so seeing lightning flashing over the Abbey was an unexpected bonus! The menu changes daily, and a lot of the ingredients are locally sourced and all is very fresh and beautifully cooked. Some have unexpected combinations, but work well and the plates arrive looking so pretty, you will want to take photos! We have had dinner here a few times and have not had one bad thing. The bar has a large range of tipples and a few unique cocktail concoctions. They are open for lunch and dinner, and food is reasonably priced. Lunch options range between £5 and £10 whilst dinner options range between £10 and £20. Frankley, the quality and tastiness are well worth the price paid for a meal here. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Nice casual setting with wonderfully prepared food. Started off with salmon, haddock and coriander fish cakes which were fresh tasting, and perfectly seasoned. Risotto and smoked haddock was delicious as was the beer battered cod and chips. Great wine selection with a large (225ml) glass available. No room for desserts though. Excellent prompt and charming service as well.

Yelp
The Moon and Sixpence is a charming little restaurant located right on Whitby's seafront. We didn't book ahead and they were completely full when we turned up, but the staff were really friendly and told us to return in two hours - we nearly went to find somewhere else as we were already hungry, but it looked so nice we decided to wait, and were really glad we did. The inside of the restaurant is lovely, very romantic with candles on every table and even a grand piano!the food was even better - there was a lot of fresh seafood on the menu but I went for chicken in bacon with mozzeralla, which was gorgeous and my boyfriend had duck a l'orange, which he really enjoyed and said was a good introduction to duck as he'd never eaten it before. The service was very slow, but it probably seemed longer than it really was because we were so hungry! I'd definitely recommend this if you go to Whitby - great for couples or for groups!

Yelp
Second visit-friendly staff and nice fresh food-breakfast a little different and tasteful. Free Wifi too.

Yelp
The Moon and Sixpence is a great place to chill out during the day or to go for a sophisticated evening drink. It is lovely to sit outside in the summer (though as its on a main thoroughfare for tourists is can get a bit crowded) and during the evening the bar area has a lively buzz. The staff are friendly and make wonderful cocktails. I've been for a drink quite a few times as this is one of the few bars in Whitby (as opposed to pubs) but I've only eaten there a couple of times. The food was nice, lots of local fish. The restaurant was much calmer than the bar area even though it was full. This is probably the nicest place in Whitby to go for a drink and it is definitely high up on the meal side too.
