Man ‘Adamant’ Restaurant’s Wage-Gap Discount Is Unfair

"Located in London, Ontario, this pub known for comfort food and a sizable beer selection launched a recurring "Mind the Gap" promotion giving female customers a 13% discount on food at lunch and dinner each Monday to reflect the gender wage gap; a portion of sales will be donated to women's advocacy groups. Owner Mark Serre defended the initiative—saying women should be paid equally and noting similar "women's nights" exist locally—after a man threatened to file a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Commission arguing the discount is discriminatory. The owner said he isn't overly worried about legality but joked that if the commission rules against them, everybody may need his best wishes. The 13% figure mirrors the Canadian gender pay gap (a comparable U.S. discount would be about 20%)." - Clint Rainey

I ordered fish and chips and this is the fish they served me. I complained and the waitress said that that is the standard size. My husband and I were wearing pride hats so I believe we were discriminated against. We live right around the corner and used to go there all the time. We will never be back. Disgraceful.

UPDATE: returned for a second visit. For mother's Day dinner. Big shout-out to CHRISTINE our server. She was lovely. Very attentive, and friendly. Thank you. We'll be back soon. --------------------------- First time visit. Decided to celebrate a birthday here with family for brunch. We were not disappointed. Loved the atmosphere, loved the artwork, not to mention the food and service was great too. We'll return for sure.

I’ve come here a few times for work patio lunches and am usually happy enough about it. The burgers are totally reasonable for the price, though not amazing. Beer selection is excellent and the server is usually endearingly surly, giving this place some personality.

The food was delicious. I had a Fettuccine with steak and it was very delicious and made exactly how i asked. Adriana was our server and was attentive in updating on our food arrival. I'd come back on my next trip to Canada!

Normally after the lunch rush most places aren’t too busy but today seemed like everyone wanted a late lunch. The food was good. I had the Chicken souvlaki. (one of my favourites) We had a reservation for ten of us. Our server Jen was also looking after a few other big tables but still managed to take care of us like it was a normal day. I love the beer selection and today, like most of the time I asked for a recommendation. I forget the name of it now but it was really good. Everybody enjoyed their meals and we will definitely be back.

Picked this spot cuz it was closest to hotel, but was very surprised. Waitress was friendly and great to talk to. Had risotto balls and wings. Both were amazing. Their wings are double baked and grilled. Super tender and not fatty. Perfect. I can’t think of anything that would’ve made it a better experience 👍🏼

We visited the restaurant on Thursday afternoon. When we arrived, there was a sign asking guests to wait to be seated, which we did — for quite a long time — before anyone came to assist us. Later, I ordered a drink, which unfortunately came in a glass that was dirty and had lipstick marks on it. I calmly went to the counter to show the issue while the server was on the phone. I waited quietly without interrupting, but she abruptly asked, “What?” with a clear attitude. When I mentioned that the glass was dirty, she replied, still irritated, that she was on the phone. Even when she later brought the replacement drink, her tone remained unfriendly. This was not the first moment during our visit when her attitude felt disrespectful. I understand that everyone can have a busy day, but as paying customers, we expect basic courtesy and cleanliness. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression.

We had an amazing dining experience in New Year’s Day! The lamb shank was so tender and flavourful. The seafood risotto has a great portion and generous amount of seafood. The service was top-notch, Megan was friendy and attentive. Great dining spot!
