The Mount Royale Hotel

Great location, short walk into the city centre and ideal for the races. Booked the Garden Suite and I wasn’t disappointed, the room leads out into the very well tended gardens which were lovely to walk round. The outdoor heated pool was a great way to start the day and the breakfast menu was extensive and good quality. Finally, the staff were very polite, attentive and a credit to the hotel. Will definitely come back.

We arrived on a Friday evening, was welcomed by a lovely man on reception, he carried bags to the room, which we had been upgraded to. The room and the bed was massive, spotless and everything you needed, the water was hot and plenty of hot water. The view from the room was beautiful. Now the breakfast was the most amazing we have had eggs Benedict was gorgeous and my partner had fish cake Benedict perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely lady who served us. Highly recommend and we will visit again.

This is my second time at this hotel. Wonderful staff, always happy to help. Rooms are clean, with clean bedding. Large choice on the breakfast menu. Lovely gardens with an outdoor heated pool that opens in May. Close to the centre of York, twenty minute walk either by the wall or straight down the high street and over the bridge. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Just stayed for the weekend at The Mount Royale Hotel. Super friendly staff that will bend over backward to help you with you needs and requirements. 100% dog friendly, staff give a treat for you furry friend at breakfast and you have an extensive garden to walk around. Food was awesome and the portion sizes of a great standard. Drinks. Only a few select ale with a good stock of most what you would like. The night staff was a little weird. Enough said. All in all we had a great stay, we would strongly recommend and will be returning soon. Thank you team.

It's a classic Victorian-era hotel, rich with character and history. Service is fantastic, the bar is well stocked and breakfast is perfect. The rooms are on point with period features, the only thing you won't find are fully up to date modern furnishings like extra plug sockets or a smart TV - it's just not that sort of hotel!

The service was impeccable right from the very start of us arriving at the hotel with the collection and help of our bags from the boot of the car to them being placed in our room. The porter, Glen and the receptionist Ruben were friendly, welcoming, attentive and very helpful. Admittedly the hotel could do with a sprucing up but it had an olde world charm about it. The rooms were clean and well stocked of beverages and the towels were soft and fluffy. Sleeping comfortably in the bed. Breakfast was amazing and cooked to order, with the waiting staff just as attentive and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

What a lovely way to spend my 40 birthday in an amazing old English hotel. The rooms were fully equipped,nice warm clean and comfortable. Breakfast was freshly cooked with plenty of choice. Friendly staff who made us feel welcome nothing was too much trouble. Hotel very quiet and peaceful with lovely gardens. Would definitely recommend to anyone

What a superb night! I had a ‘big’ age birthday there on Saturday, what a night to remember 100 guests! The curry buffet was superb the staff were amazing and the 14 guests who stayed in the hotel absolutely loved it, they had use of the, the hot tub and steam room and everyone said it was the best breakfast they had ever had! 5* rating for the staff and service, nothing was too much trouble, only problem was the time went too quickly we were having such great fun!

Stayed here for 2 nights and can't fault my experience: The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough to help. They assisted with carrying bags for my parents from the car to their room without any prompting. The lady on reception was extremely helpful providing a map and directions to the Minster via a scenic route on the walls. Room 23 was massive and very quirky, with a dressing room area and some unusual ornaments. There was a very large bed and had a great shower. The breakfast was fabulous: plenty of choice, something to suit everyone's taste. My husband, travels a great deal, said it was the best breakfast he's ever had in a hotel. The restaurant was busy and the food was of a good standard. I'd definitely stay there again.

We had a great stay at this little hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and we had an separate little room where to hang clothes and change. The only negative was that they really need to hoover the rafters to get rid of the cobwebs, which are to be expected especially in an old house. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The pool (heated, btw, which is really important, imo) out back was utterly delightful and the restaurant looked lovely as well with its dining tables under a covered patio - unfortunately, we didn't have time to try it. The breakfast was very good. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the fruit was fresh and delicious and it was all served with attention and relative speed. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.
