The Murray Arms Hotel & Seafood Restaurant

A real gem and would thoroughly recommend The Murray Arms. We (myself, husband Scott and Bruce the pug) went for lunch on 21st August as had seen the great reviews and the menu looked delicious. The food was amazing and the staff were so incredibly welcoming and friendly. They really looked after us and made a big fuss of Bruce (which he absolutely loved!). The hotel restaurant and bar were so lovely and a really beautiful setting to enjoy such wonderful food. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice seafood lunch or dinner. Thanks again to the staff for being so kind and friendly! Fab bunch of people.

Due to ferry cancellations had to find accomodation for my wife and myself and 3 excitable cocker spaniels. When I phoned and explained they opened up an apartment . We were very warmly welcomed and told if we wanted we could either dine in the restaurant or use the kitchen facilities in the apartment and what a kitchen everything you could possibly need including a double ninja air fryer. Breakfast in the morning not only had fantastic homemade bread toasted with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs but lovely friendly smiles from everyone. Been coming to Orkney for over 30 years and I have found yet another gem but this one is a diamond!

We enjoyed a very good meal in the restaurant. It was recommended to us by some local people we were speaking too and it was worth the visit. The wine list was relatively short but the recommended wine ( surprisingly the cheapest in the menu) was great with our fish dishes. All three courses and coffee were enjoyable and the staff whilst some were a little inexperienced were all friendly and helpful. The scallops were particularly good.

The food and the friendly service from the staff was outstanding. I had the scallop and seafood chowder for entree, followed by the seafood platter for one as my main. OMG!!! THE FRESHEST QUALITY and the amount of seafood I have ever been presented with. That's saying something as I live in Sydney, Australia and I have eaten my fair share of seafood platters. It was packed of fresh seafood not like other places that serve you mostly fried seafood. Thank you for the experience. Definitely worth the hours of travel. 🇦🇺

We only popped in for a coffee. But left having had a soup instead. And what a tasty chowder it was. Full of flavour and delicious. However, that was only part of it: the service was outstanding. We got looked after exceptionally well, and Niki, our Jack Russell, was waited upon hand and foot. We couldn’t ask for more. We’ll be back.

We ordered the seafood platter and it blew us away — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Everything from the scallops to the lobster was seasoned just right, and the portion size was more than generous. You can really tell they care about quality here. We topped it off with a cheesecake for dessert, and wow... creamy, rich, and sweet. Possibly one of the best cheesecakes I’ve had in a long time. Great service, lovely atmosphere — I’ll definitely be coming back! Highly recommend if you're a seafood lover with a sweet tooth. 🦐🍰

To be clear this star rating is based on the fact we were vastly overcharged for our room. The staff were kind and friendly and the food good but we were bitterly disappointed with the room having paid £120. The rooms are clean but dark and dated and definitely not worth this price. On the day rates were £70, a fair price. If traveling outside of peak times I would urge others to book nearer the day if possible, to get a reasonable rate and not left feeling overcharged.

Our seafood platter here was amazing and the place has a great interior design and decor. The staff were very friendly and helpful and really chatty. The only thing that could have made it even better is if they gave us tools for our seafood 🦞 but apart from that this is a brilliant place to go for a great meal. Enjoy😄
