The Myrtles Plantation is firstly a very peaceful place for a nice getaway. We traveled from TX and this whole area in Louisiana is just so pretty, lush with green trees and bayous to boot. When at The Myrtles, one can't help but think about it's reputation as "One of America's Most Haunted Homes," which is kind of fun but in the end it's just a really nice place to walk around but also to reflect on the historical aspect of such a place, and to honor the sad events that occurred in the south during times of slavery. There's a heaviness that goes along with staying at a place like this but I made sure to keep the indentured in mind when wandering about.
Back to current day, the pond sits in the middle of all the lodging. So you have the main house, the restaurant w/courtyard and the garden rooms (which looks like an apt bldg but really pretty) and the cabins surrounding the pond on one side, and then the rest of the pond is surrounded by the caretaker's cabin and a smokehouse, which looks to be just for decoration and then a pathway and a forest of trees surround the rest of the property.
I really liked our house called the Coco House, which is modern and has two bedrooms, one with two queen size beds and one with a single queen size bed. Then there are two full bathrooms down the hall right across from each other, which was kind of weird but my husband and I had our own bathrooms, so that was kind of nice. His was a little creepy b/c they use those Edison bulbs and the walls have wooden paneling, so the bathroom had a red hue to it, and looked a little ghostly. Might be good to give the wooden paneling a coat or two of white paint. I stuck to the tiled bathroom with the shower/tub combo. I will say that my shower turned off by itself at one point while showering, so...bad pipes or mischievous spirits?? My husband's bathroom had a really cool walk-in shower, though I didn't try it out. I loved the photo of the Coco House (the white house w/white rocking chairs) with the sunset light shining on it.
May be back, may not, but we'll always come back to Louisiana! Love this place!!
