The National Bonsai and Penjing Collection

Very calming. So much work to make a tree or shrub. The attendants were very nice and gave us lots of info.

A mesmerising place! We loved exploring the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection and were amazed by the sheer number of ancient trees—living masterpieces, some well over a century old. The displays are beautifully curated, the explanations clear, and the staff happy to share stories about each specimen. Whether you’re a bonsai enthusiast or simply curious, this collection is inspiring, peaceful, and absolutely worth a visit.

Nice, but small part of the arboretum. Worth a visit but don’t have too high of expectations in regards to size. The workers were lovely and it was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon + Free !

They have a wide range of bonsai that were trained from a long period of time. The trees look extremely good and they maintain it well. The walking tracks in the arboretum is good especially the mountain view track.

Absolutely outstanding collection of bonsai. Easy walking around, a big cafe available. Views across the old dairy where new trees have been planted after the devastating fires.

A fantastic place, I've visited on Sunday and not much traffic around. Spent about half an hour and enjoyed my visit. It is amazing how these plants can live over a hundred years and still bloom like baby flowers. In Japan, many people have Bonsai at home. Life is fast phased but they are there like time stops... I would recommend coming here and doing a bit nice for your spirit.

If you are in Canberra, do not drive past this. Incredible work and artistry on display. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Truly a wonderful exhibition and testament to true dedication. You will feel transported into another world!
