The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is honestly a masterpiece and one of the best museums I’ve visited in Egypt. What makes it special is that it doesn’t focus on just one era; you get to see artifacts from multiple historical periods, which makes the visit feel rich, educational and never boring. Everything is well organized and easy to follow, so you actually enjoy learning as you walk through. The Royal Mummies Hall was on a completely different level. The atmosphere there is intense, powerful and full of presence. It has a real sense of awe and respect, and it genuinely gives you chills. Very impressive and unforgettable. (I wished I could take photos, but photography is not allowed to help preserve the mummies wish is totally understandable) The museum’s location is also a huge plus. It overlooks Fustat Lake, and the view is stunning. Sitting there with the lake, the open sky and birds flying around makes the experience even more special and peaceful. We enjoyed the little show during the visit c: it was a nice surprise and added a fun touch to the experience. The people running the show were extremely friendly. Overall, it’s a beautiful museum and absolutely worth visiting!

This museum is compact and beautifully designed. It is a remarkable space and gives viewpoints over the adjacent lake all the way to the sandstone hills and the citadel. The main hall under the Pyramid dome covers from Egyptian prehistory to the newer dynasties of the pharaohs and Greco Roman involvement. The prices on display are carefully chosen to move you through time. So overall this is not supplementary to the GEM at all!. The highlight to me was the mummies exhibition. There are over a dozen mummies on display of pharaohs kings, queens and high official's. They are remarkable as they are the reason why the pyramids are built and the treasures we marvel at were collected and buried. Yet so frail and of course recognizably human. Each mummy has some concise information nearby to position the leadership and achievements of the person. Stunning. Totally enjoyed the visit and what I saw was a great piece of the puzzle of Egyptian history!

Much smaller than the GEM so easier to tackle, the layout is great an a easy to navigate. The building is fantastic, with beautiful lakeside walk and gardens outside. The cafe was lovely with great selection, and a fab little shopping centre downstairs. The gift shop was much cheaper than GEM gift shop. The Royal Mummies were fascinating and that area feels really respectfully done. Would definitely recommend visiting.

Beautiful setting overlooking a lake. The mummies are so well preserved and displayed. It is interesting to see the different Pharos and read their stories. I started to goes their age before reading the plaque as I learnt more and saw a pattern in how they looked compared to their age at death. There are a few coffee shops and a little mask at the bottom of the museum.

We came here on Valentine’s and it was one of the best spots we could’ve visited. Lovely ambience and curation and it was incredible to see the museum’s displays and learn about each of the pieces. The royal mummies path was breathtaking. Highly recommend this experience!

The highlight at thisiseum is the Royal Mummies exhibit. It is so neat to see how these famous royal Egyptians were preserved. You can see some hair, teeth, nails, etc on their bodies. Photos are not allowed in the mummies hall. The core exhibit has some interesting pieces from throughout Egypt history. This was a great way to end our vacation after having been to Valley of the Kings and inside some temples, we could actually see the mummies that belonged there.

Seeing the royal mummies is an experience unlike any other in the world—these royal mummies can only be seen in Egypt, making this museum truly unique and irreplaceable. If you are visiting Cairo, this museum is an absolute must-visit. The ticket price for foreigners is slightly higher, around 600 Egyptian pounds, but the experience is worth every pound. The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and visits should be planned during the daytime, as it is not open at night. The National Museum of Cairo is not just a museum—it is a powerful reminder of why Egypt remains the cradle of one of the world’s greatest civilizations.

If I chose properly going to this museum first then going to the other museum like grand museum is better. First three explanations and understanding the history of Egypt here is easier. The information from signs and screens are valuable. Plus the collection of mummies shown are amazing. Note that taking photos of them isn't allowed.
