NLI had a remake and I'll say that we really enjoyed our stay. A couple of minor tweaks and this place is a five star (Google) hotel. First, we were here on a non-demand weekend, so the prices were very reasonable. Normally, we stay at the Penn Stater, but this time we wanted to try something different, be closer to town, watch the 4th of July Fireworks and get some road biking in. Pros: great location (as in really good), dog-friendly (for a fee), clean, quiet, their pub, Triplets, has amazing wings, fancy water in the lobby, very authentic and comfortable structure all around, they provide lots of space to chill, work, or have a drink and you are close to pretty much everything (except ice). Cons: front doors need to be automatic, that is where we all load/unload with our stuff and while Jake did a great job opening the doors, others weren't so attentive. Just eliminate this by automating them and let your staff focus on greeting and helping. Room AC cannot be set below "66", our room wasn't 66, but I could not get it lower than whatever it was. Be prepared to do a 5k hike to get ice (if you need it). Parking is a little complicated, you can just valet to make it easy otherwise............ Coffee is important, there is a decent in room option, but nothing in the lobby, because they want you to go to their in house coffee shop, Joe's, which involves waiting in a line. Penn Stater has good coffee in the lobby all day long just basic coffee, but that's enough. If you want more, you go to a coffee shop or espresso bar. We had a great time on this weekend getaway and we will likely go back again. FWIW - Their fine dining restaurant is over priced, but if you order carefully, you can have a nice meal there (see separate review).

As a regular guest at The Nittany Lion Inn for conferences annually, prior to COVID, I was amazed and awe-struck at how beautiful and different things looked when I entered the Inn for the first time since the remodel. It truly is a welcoming experience. The bedrooms were stunning and the shower was AMAZING and very roomy. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and the bed was so comfy and the layout of the rooms with the "antique looking sofa and tables" was just astounding. The food was also so delicious and loved the variety. Something for everyone. I also visited the quaint little gift shop and bought some Christmas presents (in July) for several of the Penn State fans on my gift list. We will definitely be back here for additional conferences and I will be booking when I come up for long weekends in the fall. The Staff are also very outgoing, friendly and a special Thank you to the Young Valet who recommended Faccia Luna Pizzeria for dinner and drinks, it was only a couple miles away and the food there was also amazing!! Overall I would give my short stay here 10 Stars! Thanks to all of you!

We got a mid week, off season rate which was the only way we could have afforded to stay here. But boy is this place something. So much character and history. Even the books on the shelves are ‘blue and white’. Tucked away on campus behind Old Main, this was one of our most favorite historic hotel stays. Easy walk to many places downtown. Easy Parking available through the valet or parking garage next door.

My sister in law got ready here the day of her wedding and most people we organized logistics with were extremely helpful! Gabriella at the front desk and Lori in food and beverage went above and beyond for us helping us with miscellaneous items we needed or things we wanted to do special for the bride and groom. However, we were informed months in advance that we would be able to have her “first look” at one of the patios on the property and were told to contact Christine in sales the day of for the logistics of setting this up. When we called her that morning, she was extremely curt and to be honest, pretty rude about the fact that we were “not able to take formal photography on the property”. We were extremely confused as we were told that people do weddings here all the time and upset as this was the day she was getting married and it was already extremely stressful. Thankfully, Emma at the front desk was very helpful in ensuring everything worked out for us! I would not recommend speaking to Christine in sales though if you need anything done.

The NLI is special because we celebrated our wedding there 11 years ago. The new lobby area is lovely, spacious, and comfortable. The old time PSU decorations found all over the hotel are nice and I'm glad they kept that vibe and the apples! However, there is still work to be done.||The hotel is terribly understaffed. At one point I saw the front desk person helping at valet. There was never more than one person working in the coffee shop and the line was always 9 people deep. The parking just sucks. It’s expensive for both valet and garage and there are no in/out privileges in the garage unless if you pay each time. I don’t mind the short walk to the garage, but something needs to change here. For newcomers it can be a bit strange to walk in the front door and not know where to go since the check-in desk is now in the atrium. Maybe put up a sign or at least label the desk. There is no ventilation of any kind in the bathroom so not only do you have to deal with odor, but there is no head or AC in there either. We were there during a heat wave (temps in 90’s) and our bathroom was always way too hot. We had to keep the bathroom door closed so that room itself would cool down appropriately. ||My biggest complaint has to do with something SO basic and should never happen to anyone. We reserved one pet friendly room and one ADA room for my 80-yr-old father. The pet friendly room had a walk-in shower and the ADA room (#102), while in a great location, had a bathtub with a bunch of grab bars. We would have switched rooms but didn’t because of the dog. I also didn’t ask for another room because the front desk person was so busy and was getting yelled at unnecessarily by some overly entitled guest. Fortunately, my dad was able to safely use the tub very carefully. If it had been another elderly family member it never would have worked. Wanting a walk-in shower was the main reason I had reserved an ADA room. This room has a wheelchair logo on the room number plate. Not only could a disabled person NEVER shower in this room, I’m pretty sure a wheelchair would not fit through the bathroom door. The room needs to be reclassified or some construction is needed. The pet friendly room was actually more spacious (with a hot bathroom) but required a few steps in the hallway to reach it. ||Overall, we had a really nice stay, but these issues are not worth the price you pay to stay at what has historically been an iconic hotel.

Can’t be beat! Iconic and historic Hotel located on the campus of Penn State. Five star experience. Staff was extraordinarily helpful—Bartender made me a refreshing cocktail after a 7+ hour drive. Front desk staff were helpful and accommodating. The room was quiet, clean and very comfortable.

The aesthetic of this hotel is gorgeous. It was recently renovated and looks great. However, the hotel room never got below 75 degrees. We had the AC cranked on the lowest setting all night and it somehow got warmer in the room overnight. I went to take a cold shower but there was NO cold water. The shower only produced hot water, or was off all together. Sleeping was difficult if not impossible as we were extremely warm and uncomfortable. The pillows on the bed were rock-hard and I ended up using my crumpled up hoodie for a pillow. The next morning we hoped that the lobby would offer some relief and be a cooler space to relax— no such luck. The rest of the hotel was just as hot as our room. Couldn’t wait to get out of there and sit in the car for AC! Maybe this would be a better place to stay in the winter….

We stayed at the Nittany lion inn the night of the eagle mania concert at the State theater. It has an impressive lobby with a beautiful chandelier, free apples, dispensers of flavored water| and little alcoves with couches for meeting with your friends in a private setting . the rooms are well appointed and luxurious. We had several drinks before and after the concert at triplets. Our server, Andy was fantastic. He described all the cocktails and mixed up a pineapple margarita and Aperol spritz for me that were delicious . We enjoyed talking to him about the hotel and the different music venues around town. Andy was very personable. We had a great stay!

Yelp
September 2024, the grand reopening of this historic and beautiful hotel right on Penn State's campus. Wow! They really took the time and effort to renovate, restore, and rethink some concepts and came up with 3 great sports for coffee, food and drinks. The decor is awesome and we are so thrilled to have been invited for a preview of what's to come. Thanks to the management team and workers for making this short stay quite memorable.

Yelp
I made my first visit to the Nittany Lion yesterday. It will be my last. If I land the client I was in town to meet with, I will be staying elsewhere on those trips. First, the good: Most of the staff there is tremendous. From the young men working the front door to the check-in staff and most other staff I encountered, they were super friendly and helpful. The accommodations were beautiful and spacious. Five stars there, too. I got a king suite with a living room, which gave me all the space I needed to rest, relax, read, and prepare for this morning's business meeting ten minutes away. The location is likely perfect for 99.99 percent of the people who stay there but, in retrospect, I don't really want to be on a college campus. I have no connection to the university and don't really need to be caught up in the middle of it. That mistake was mine. I thought it might be neat to see the historic school but realized I didn't have the time or interest. Now, the not so good: Finding my room or the restaurants or anything else wasn't easy as the place is laid out in sort of a blue-hazed labyrinth. I get the college colors but it was the equivalent of getting snow-blinded. Second, the service was not exactly super warm and friendly at Triplett's, the casual dining restaurant inside the hotel. The staff actually working in the bar was disinterested in providing service -- and the bar was largely populated by other employees talking shop about their jobs. One or two were eating at the bar, the others were just standing around talking to them. I had no interest in that. They should go somewhere else and talk. Next, I found that the large and lovely bathroom was very low on the soap and shampoo dispensers, and I had to pump like a farmer at a water well to get anything out of the bottles. The biggest irritant to me, though, and the true deal breaker, is the lack of the kind of breakfast every other hotel I've ever stayed in my life provides. Instead of providing a normal breakfast service where guests can go down and immediately grab their own bacon, eggs, waffles, and other goodies from a buffet (or at least sit down at a table and get waited on), the only option is the pathetic Dear Joe. Get rid of Dear Joe immediately. Close it today. I woke up extra early to make sure I had time to fuel up before my meeting. Unfortunately, the line at Dear Joe -- everyone lining up to order from one guy at one register -- was already 15 people deep, and, after ten minutes, it hasn't moved an inch. I can only guess that the food would have taken a long time to prepare even after finally reaching the ordering counter. When I'm traveling, I don't have time to stand in a stupid line -- let alone for the limited options at Dear's Joes. I want to go down, eat a solid breakfast, and move on with my day. I watched many other people come in behind me and, like me, shake their heads in frustration, and leave. I finally had to do the same, forcing me to find somewhere else to eat breakfast -- and nearly be late to my meeting with a potential client.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at The Nittany Lion Inn. We have a daughter currently at Penn State, so when we heard the inn was open after several years of renovation, we decided to stay for one night as the inn is pricey. When we arrived, we had to park in the lot next door. Parking is not included in your stay. The inn's lobby, although nicely decorated, was hectic and loud although we loved all the Penn State memorabilia. It was a little tricky to find our room on the first floor, but once we got there, the room was clean and spacious. It felt luxurious especially since everything is new. One problem, however, was housekeeping left a quarter of a roll of toilet paper with no refill. I literally had to track down a housekeeper to get another roll. We then went out for the day and when we returned, the lobby, which had a table with empty water urns and only a few remaining apples, had not been cleaned up or refreshed. Dirty napkins were left on the table, and the water and fruit bowls were still empty. It's puzzling how no one thought to refill the water or at least clean up the table. The next day, we were shocked that there was no hot water for showers so early in the morning. This didn't change over the course of an hour. I later learned that this had been common before the renovations. However, it appears to not have been fixed. When checking out, we let the oblivious young woman at the front desk know, but she just brushed it off, offering no apology or solution. Clearly, more training needs to be a part of these upgrades especially in terms of how to treat the guests. This property was always considered a luxury hotel, so if they want it to be considered luxury again at those high prices, it has a long way to go.

Yelp
Had been to visit my freshman at Penn State and stayed here for 2 nights. Highly recommend this place as it is right on campus. Clean rooms, convenient location, parking at Nittany deck is a blessing. If you are visiting your child, this is the place to stay.

Yelp
Beautiful renovations. Hope they decide to train or hire new bartenders. The bar was nowhere near full and it takes way too long to get a drink and the bartenders have zero customer service skills. Unpleasant and don't even look at you when you are ordering. Fingers crossed it gets better because this place should be top notch for what alumni spend here.

Yelp
If you are going to charge this much for a hotel room, you need fo get the basics right, like water pressure, water temperature, toilets that work, air conditioning in the lobby, adequate restaurant, valet, and lobby staff. Use the football weekend money to reinvest in your staff utilities.

Doris P.

Yelp
Hotel and rooms are gorgeous. However I feel they opened too quickly. Renovations on third floor not completed. Upon check in- valet parking full. Had to park in garage next door $10. each time you come and go. Room on third floor. Gorgeous. However to find room very tricky. Halls are maze like and signage on walls do not match room locations. Met several people looking for rooms. Paid for room that was to accommodate 4 people (3 adults in my party) however only had 1 king bed. So back to front desk. They said they could upgrade for additional money over $100+.per night. Not acceptable. Offered room same price with 2 queen beds -good. Get to room toilet won't flush chain off lever. Put chain back on but constantly came off. had to manually flush. Room temp 79. air conditioner noisy . went to take shower. Light sensor turns light off while in shower. No shower fan. Dinner good. Checked out after 2 days and told front desk of toilet issue not corrected. Lady said she saw it noted on room number. If you pay over $200/night don't want to manually flush toilet. Just saying.

Yelp
I'd always heard about this place and decided to stay here for a conference I attended at the university. I am very glad I did -- and I will be back with family. Having eaten at Whiskers in the past, I knew they would have delicious and filling plant-based options, and it is a beautiful vertical space. I did not try the other restaurant because I kept coming back to Whiskers. They had cute cans of dry rose and other excellent wine choices. My colleagues liked the beers and also ate the plant-based dishes even though they are not vegan -- the veg mac & cheese was delicious and huge. The hotel is old-school, very Colonial, built in 1931. So many people I know have had memorable events here such as wedding and anniversary celebrations. I found the prices reasonable, and they had every amenity I needed, such as a fridge and microwave and Keurig (with local coffee pods) in the room. I was most excited by stationery in the drawer, lol! I begged for more at the front desk, but you have to ask housekeeping, whom I was not able to track down after that. The hotel looks smallish and cozy from the front, but you will likely find a long trek to your room, around many corners. Look at it on Google Maps from the top to get the idea. Fine by me; I need the steps. Rooms were immaculate and comfortable. My king room had a sofa and desk, and the bed faced the window, which I liked, and looked out onto one of two interior courtyards. Excellent service from the front desk and doormen. Fresh apples by the front door. Cute gift shop. They are listed in Historic Hotels of America, cool. I was thrilled to be here.

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal at the Nittany Lion Inn. I recently came here for dinner with my friends for a special occasion. I greatly enjoyed my meal. The cheese plate appetizer was especially great, and my boyfriend loved the lobster bisque. He gets it every time we come. We were a large party and they accommodated us well, and put us in a private room. Great service!

Yelp
Stayed at the Nittany Lion Inn while visiting Penn State and loEvery time I approached the doors at least two people opened the doors. The front desk was very helpful. Parking in front of the hotel is tricky, but the parking garage is directly to the side of the hotel. Room was comfortable, decent carpeting, flat screen TV, desk (with stationery!) and the beds were perfect. The bathroom was huge and good towels. Getting to the room was a little challenging with lots of hallways, but the signs helped. The refrigerator in the room was little too cold as it turned my soda into a slushy. If I were staying for more than a night, I would have figured it out to correct it. Huge basket of apples on the table across from the check in. I didn't get a chance to eat at either the dining room or whiskers nor sit by the fireplace - next time. Update: I've eaten at both the Dining room and Wiskers. Both were great. Wiskers was crowded, but not too noisy and the service was quick. I ate in the Dining Room for breakfast twice. Service was excellent. It was nearly empty the first time and about 1/2 full the second time. It was very quiet both times. I ordered the grilled stickies and they were grilled to perfection. Presentation with fruit was nice. Because of the high quality of the restaurants and the hotel, if I'm back at State College, I'll be staying here.

Yelp
Cute old-fashioned hotel in state college. I've stayed here twice now paid for by my employer. The room I stayed in was a good sized room - 2 queen beds. Very clean! The service is great - everyone is warm and friendly!

Yelp
Extremely charming place!! I stayed at the Nittany Lion Inn when visiting Penn State. The location was perfect, only a few blocks from the buildings I was going to visit. The shuttle picked me up at from the airport and was an extremely kind university student- he gave me many good recommendations for restaurants and cafés around campus. My room was on the third floor. The room was clean and absolutely beautiful. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. During my stay I had two breakfasts at the inn's restaurant. Both were absolutely delicious! The lobby of the hotel was very charming. There was a food burning fireplace and complementary apples (all coming from Penn State's agricultural science dept.). One thing that was odd but not a dealbreaker: there was NO television in the room!

Yelp
This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at in the State College area. It has a historic feel, but has definitely been remodeled and well kept. It's clean and gorgeous with lots of ornate details. I was scared it would be a little too upscale for my taste. But it had a variety of guests... people wearing jeans and people wearing suits. A few wedding parties were staying there, as well as a wedding reception taking place. Our room was nice. Clean for the most part. I think they missed the coffee area, since the previous guests already opened sugar packets were laying around. But that's not a big deal to us. Loved that they had restaurants, a gift shop, and a bar. We had appetizers and drinks at Whiskers and took advantage of the hotel restaurant breakfast in the morning. I loved Whiskers, we had some really great appetizers there. The staff was exceptionally kind and attentive. It was a very enjoyable stay. It was a rainy weekend so sadly we weren't able to enjoy the gorgeous grounds, court yards, or spend much time outside. You still couldn't help but notice the landscaping and care they take in the property. Only downside was if you chose not to valet your car you had to park in the nearby garage (free on weekends). Again, not a huge deal, but if you had a lot of luggage it might be an inconvenience. I hope to stay here again.

Yelp
Love the hotel and had a delightful room. So traditional and comfortable. Enjoyed the jetted tub and comfortable bed and it's awesome they have Happy Valley coffee for your Keurig machine in the room. Had an enjoyable drink at Whiskers in the evening. The dining room is totally underrated on Yelp. Had breakfast before heading out. I love that they have grilled stickies and you don't have to trek over to the Diner, which I fondly recall for 3 am stickies after the bars closed thirty years ago, but didn't necessarily want to eat at on a cold morning today as a grown up. I guess the old Diner is closed now anyway. We also had the wild mushroom quesadilla and the asparagus omelet. The food is fresh and well prepared, not over seasoned, and portions are generous. The country potatoes have a nice crispy brown to them, not soggy or bland. The quesadilla was really outstanding with a lot of mushroomy umami and the nuttiness from the Muenster was a perfect counter as it wasn't too overpowering for the mushrooms. I can't get over how reasonably priced everything is. $8 for a beautiful breakfast entrée with toast or English muffin, potatoes, and a big omelet. Even the decadent grilled stickies we only a couple of bucks. So don't listen to the inexperienced haters trashing this lovely dining room because they don't have enough vegetarian dishes. It's a very nice meal in a pretty space with good service and reasonable prices.

Yelp
I stayed at the Nittany Lion Inn located on the campus of Penn State University for a wedding I attended during a weekend in December. I very much enjoyed the quaint and local atmosphere this hotel had to provide. Very charming! When we arrived, I was pleased to see that football recruitment was going on at the same time. I came face-to-face with the head coach as well as several recruits and their families, an experience I'll never forget! The person at check-in welcomed us warmly and explained how to navigate the hotel. We were pleased to have the shuttle available throughout the weekend, for airport transportation and local pick up and drop offs. The hotel was very clean and the staff were courteous. There is a gym on site which was also clean and had just the right amount of equipment for a good work out. If dining at whiskers, you can charge the bill to your room. There is a cozy fireplace in the lobby and some rooms have one as well. The ballroom was a great set up for the wedding reception. Lots of room for tables and the dance floor. We enjoyed cocktail hour directly outside the ballroom as well. There was a smaller dining room available for the rehearsal dinner which was also nice.

Yelp
I had a dinner here in a group setting (with PSU) so I didn't have to pay. However, from my understanding the dinner we had would have been around $40 a person. We had bread. It was fine. We had soup. It was pretty good. Better than canned. The salad and dressing options were probably my favorite part. Delicious. We had chicken still on the bone. It was average. Spaghetti with red sauce was nothing special. Broccoli was fine. The dessert was like a cream cheese mousse? It was decent but not amazing. I even had lunch here about a year ago...it was a buffet and from what I remember it was good, but average as well. All in all, it was pretty decent. Not bad at all, but not worth $$$$.

Yelp
The only place I stay when visiting PENN STATE. Yes, it can be pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want top notch service, friendly staff, great food and drink and large accommodations, stay at the NLI. A big perk is that you can leave your car either in the lot or parking garage and walk everywhere (you can also hop on a campus bus) We like to eat and have some drinks at Wiskers (try the lobster bisque) and this year had the Easter Brunch which was amazing

Yelp
Came for PA on the Patio event. NLI partners w/local PA suppliers of alcohol and foods. This week was Yuengling, Ottos Brewery, Big Spring Spirits and Mt. Nittany winery. $25/pp plus alcohol. In addition to that, they have local providers of meats and cheeses. The menu included Short Rib, NY Strip, Quail, wood fired pizza, grilled vegetables and Grilled lemon pound caked w/sugared berries. For Penn Staters, they also partner w/businesses owned by Penn State Alumni. The food was excellent!

Yelp
Nice, elegant, and clean hotel. Convenient, free parking in a garage. Either my room walls were too thin, or the people in the room next door were too loud. Either way, I shouldn't be able to hear people talking for hours outside my room when it's close to 1am. It was extremely annoying to hear the guests yapping away all night. Good thing I brought my earplugs, or I wouldn't have gotten any sleep. On the more plus side, the breakfast was very good and room service was also excellent.
google avatar

Alanna B.

Yelp
I remember the food as very good, but what stood out in my mind (and still does) is their FAMOUS Lobster Bisque!! (Now I found the recipe since I don't live in SC anymore). I dream of this soup at night....so good. I have tried many locations' lobster bisque, and this one is still tops. Service was attentive and staff was courteous. Can you get that my review states you should try the Lobster Bisque?? :-)

Yelp
I just stayed here for 3 nights in a one bedroom suite. Imagine your rich grandmother's house if she was a dieheart Penn State football fan. My room was very comfortable. Other than weak water pressure in the shower - no complaints. Breakfast in the dinning room was fine. Service in Whiskers pub was very slow. I saw some extremely long check-in lines. I would be really annoyed if I had to stand on one of these lines. Their free shuttle will take you or pick you up anywhere within 5 miles.
google avatar

Ed J.

Yelp
Stayed here for a conference. I think this place is starting to rest on its laurels. The staff is either very young and somewhat confused or, in case of one frosted blond matron behind the front desk, annoyed whenever you ask for help. The shower in my room barely worked and the Internet connection was slow. The lobster bisque was excellent and the filet mignon was also very good. Location is still good. They just need to renovate.

Yelp
If you are going for dinner at the Inn then the Friday night Seafood Buffet is well worth a try. The buffet has a wide variety of fresh selections from raw to cooked to order. The fresh mussels and scallops were cooked to perfection. The desserts are good and the ice creamy from the Penn State Creamery is a good finish. Polite, friendly service also helped the dining experience. If you are looking for a nice place in State College give the Inn a try, I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Michelle E.

Yelp
Likely will not stay here again. Horrible Internet connection, and water pressure..and when somebody flushes from another room you'll know it because you lose the little water pressure you do have. Needless to say showers were less than enjoyable. Crappy Internet and water pressure aside, the people who clean the room not only left my room unsecured but it was propped open by the lock! It was left like this all day. Thankfully a valet driver who had help me take my stuff to my room witnessed this and said she would report it. This was on a Saturday (I checked in on a Friday) I am now checking out and did not get so much as a phone call to make sure nothing was stolen. I guess they figure I didn't file a police report so everything must be "fine" Needless to say I went the rest of my time here without housekeeping because I'd rather have to reuse towels than have stuff stolen.

Yelp
I've been here a week and enjoying it. The food is good but the rooms could use some updating. The staff is super friendly and the location is awesome.... Especially to the tiger. I'd stay here again and the prices are fair.

Yelp
Wonderful place. Visited Penn State for first time. Rate was competitive and room was nicely sized (two queen plus sofa couch). Will stay again.

Yelp
Dined in the restaurant for graduation weekend. Was told "jacket and tie" is a must. Uh huh. Jeans/sneakers and torn boxer shorts were in evidence. Looked through the menu and saw ~ 3 entrees for 40 dollars and ~ 3 from 50 to 60 dollars (you read that right). Was then informed that soup and salad was "serve yourself". Note that there is a "Hoss's" down the street where you get the responsibility of serving yourself for 15$. The food was a solid B in St. College and a D in/around most big cities. The problem is - they are/were charging NYC/Philadelphia prices. For a 57$ steak I expect you to bring me my soup, bring me my salad, wash my car and wipe my mouth (ok, slight exaggeration). I'm an alumni - I love the town, I love the school and love the Nittany Lion Inn. But I'll tell you as someone who dines out on business all the time - the management is way, way, WAAAAY out of line with those prices. Do yourself a favor and go to the Outback for dinner and grab a drink in Whiskers in you want the NLI experience. They are taking advantage our our nostalgia and should be embarrassed.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel but it has some flaws. The wallpaper is falling off the walls in some spots and somebody really needs to do a job with caulking around the shower tubs and painting the doors. The furniture is old and just about everything needs to get updated I don't know why they don't do this. The dining room is lovely and the food is great. The staff are fantastic. Seriously thinking about writing a letter to the managing director and telling him how I feel. When you book a suite you're supposed to get bathrobes when I called down to the front desk they had no idea what I was talking about. Somebody told me the rooms didn't come with bathrobes which of course is not true because I stayed there not too long ago I did get one. The windows very badly need to get cleaned and just regular maintenance in the rooms needs to get done. There is a shuttle that runs back and forth to town which is wonderful and the people who bring you are very nice and kind.

Yelp
As a Penn State alum, I had naturally dreamed as a poor college student that I would one day return to campus and bring my family to stay at the Nittany Lion Inn for a football game. That fantasy finally came true last weekend when I brought my three teenaged boys and husband to PSU for homecoming. And boy was it a disappointment. The whole experience left me feeling that we weren't special and that we should be grateful for being able to stay there rather than that they valued our business. The worst part is that our rooms cost over $400 per night, no breakfast included. We have had better rooms in NYC, LA and Sydney, AUS for less! Parking is a bit of a mess upon arrival. There is valet but few valet drivers so it's not clear where to leave our car upon arrival and no one or signage to explain. Throughout the weekend, this continued to be true and we were never able to leave our car with the valet because of lack of drivers, though free self parking in a nearby garage was available. Check in took a while as they had to sort out our two rooms. The young clerk at the front desk was very sweet. Kids filled up in free apples. We got to our two rooms and it was like going back in time to the Reagan-era. Floral bedspread, dark wood furniture, dated bathroom, furniture crowding the awkwardly shaped room. One sink in the bathroom. Shower inside a giant jacuzzi tub with shower head in a fixed and unusable position. Like going to your parents house if they had never updated their record in 20 years. There were two bottles of water in the room, but no extras to justify the sky high price. We walked downtown for the parade and dinner and when we were ready to head back to the hotel I noticed a Nittany Lion Inn van dropping off some people along college avenue. Pooped, I thought a ride back to the hotel would be welcome and asked the driver how we could get a ride in the shuttle. Since it was empty, I assumed he would tell us to hop in. Instead he said in a haughty tone that any rides had to be arranged in advance and were subject to availability of driver and van. And off he drove in his empty van to the very place we now had to traipse uphill to get to. Given the Four Seasons-level price, I expected to be treated like a Four Seasons guest. Instead I felt unwelcome. Don't see us staying here again. So disappointed.

Yelp
For over seven years I have been a hostage of fortune, so-to-speak, and am forced to stay here at least once or twice a year. And each time, I hope that I will experience what makes folks all 'googly' for this place. And each time... I am underwhelmed. Location/parking. Directly on campus, with a narrow, tiny lot across the way, or a parking garage two blocks away. Adequate. Being on campus... Not an attraction for anyone who is not an alum, and actually, quite an annoyance. Check in. Seldom smooth, and even less than welcoming. Usually the staff (students?) seem less than interested in the guest and more interested in talking to each other. The rooms. In over 7 years of 1, 2, or even 3 visits a year I have gotten one of the renovated rooms once. The remainder of the time, gross, dated rooms that are merely average in cleanliness. At best. And good luck getting to it, you will be going through what seems to be a labyrinth of narrow hallways and twists and turns. Amenities are meh. The elevators are terrifying. The meeting rooms. Dank and in the basement. One we keep getting graced with has a strong mold smell, and several md/scent sensitive folks get really sick. And mobile reception? Forget about it! Wifi? Ditto! Food. Nothing special, and is typical food service/Sysco type stuff. The Penn Stater is a much nicer experience, As is the Hilton Garden Inn or many other hotels in State College. I think the Penn State Nostalgia is what makes folks all excited about this hotel... And trust me. There is nothing exciting about it. Not the best, not the worst, but still something to simply be endured,

Yelp
THE place to stay in State College. Good facilities. The restaurant is top-notch. And it's a great learning experience for students in the highly-ranked Hotel & Restaurant Mgmt program who will soon join the hospitality industry full-time. Two draw-backs (both minor): the in-room wifi could be a little stronger, and the rooms do not have safes. These should not nearly be enough to discourage you.

Yelp
The complimentary apples are a nice touch. The complimentary bed bug bites I could have done without. At least 2 people from my party woke up with noticeable bug bites. Another person had a brand new dress shirt ruined by a rusty iron in the room hours before a wedding. The biggest perk of this hotel seems to be it's convenience to the Penn State campus, and that's all it is. If you're not an alum with a full itinerary of gushing over the stadium and all your old dorms while you stay, you're left with cheap lumpy pillows, and questionable sanitary conditions for a hotel of this stature. But seriously, the apples were delicious.

Yelp
The Nittany Lion Inn provided me with a very positive experience. The staff is extremely efficient, courteous, and friendly. The check in was smooth and the room was ready as soon as we arrived. The room size was fair and the bed was comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the bathroom. Like the other reviews mention, the location of the hotel is awesome. It's just a short walk to downtown State College and all the restaurant and bars. It's also not right smack in the middle of all the ruckus so you're assured a quiet night's sleep. There's nothing more annoying than waking up to the sound of drunk college kids trying to sing at 2am. No thanks. If you get the opportunity, I would highly recommend trying the Sunday Brunch buffet. It's a delicious yet elegant way to end your stay at this very nice hotel. Just be wary if you order the pancakes: they're easily bigger than your face. You've been warned.

Yelp
If you want to stay at a hotel in State College, and don't want it to be swarmed with college kids, then the Nittany Lion Inn is your spot. It has it's own private lot right on the edge of campus, which makes it convenient enough to get around campus and to the football stadium. I have not stayed at the Inn itself, but I've been here countless times for various events. Coming into the Nittany Lion Inn, you're greeted by a nice staff and a very respectable front desk. This place definitely looks out of place in State College. At the Inn, there are a couple places to eat. I had the chance to eat at the restaurant, which wasn't too bad. They either have a buffet style, or good old made to order. Aside from the food and hotel rooms, they do have a conference/event area on the basement floor. There are plenty of event rooms, and they tend to cater with small sandwiches and cheese. Best hotel at PSU, but that's not saying much either.

Yelp
After checking out The Penn Stater for a conference, it is clear that the Nittany Lion Inn is not as nice facility-wise. However, of the two locations, I still prefer the Nittany Lion Inn. The rooms are a decent size and I love that they have an additional vanity/sink outside of the bathroom as well. They also upgraded to flat-screen TVs. The bedding and other decor is very old-fashioned, which I get is the general vibe of the hotel, but that doesn't mean the stuff can't be replaced every now and again. The same style comforters are still being used since the first time I was here, three years ago. Also, the hotel does not have conditioner so get ready for some straw-like hair if you didn't remember to pack your own. Definitely the best feature of the Inn is the location. I'm not sure what some people consider to be "far," but there are loads of bars, restaurants and shops less than a half mile away. I don't mind the walk at all if it means not having to drive and being able to see some of the campus as well as the local hang-outs.

Yelp
My daughters quinceañera party was there. I arranged everything very nicely. My friend, Bertica Garcia, a formidable interior decorator, came to arrange the flowers bouquets and the center pieces. The catering manager assigned to our party was Vincent-killian, Joy. He couldn't be more helpful. If once you need someone, he is the person. Chuck Fong took the pictures and Dj Try Breon made that party alive! The place was majestic. The food was very very good. The menu was Italian and they gave us a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmelos. It was just one detail I didnt like. We invited 55 people and just 35 showed up, so there was 1/2 menu left. They didn't let us take anything to go. I felt it was my right because I paid for it and they said NO! I was so disappointed about it!

Yelp
This place has nice enough room accomodations (sp), but the rest of it is run very unprofessionally. First, the place is absolutely freezing, even when weather outside doesn't call for it. Second, the "business center" consists of a busted desktop hooked up to an aging monitor on the second floor. None of the web browsers are up to date, and you can't even log in to popular e-mail services like Gmail or Yahoo. Good luck printing something when you're about to give a talk, which happened to me and induced panic.

Yelp
When I booked my reservation for the PSU Mac Admins conference this year the hotel that I wanted to stay at was completely booked up so I had to find another alternative. Fortunately the Nittany Lion was offering discounts to conference attendees, so my co-worker and I ended up booking our stay here. The Nittany Lion is a nice place to stay; however, to me it seemed a little "dated", especially for the price that one has to pay to stay there. I honestly felt at times like I was the youngest person staying at that hotel as it seemed like the clientele who frequented the Nittany were in their "golden years". Also, the place had that kind of vibe that further made me feel slightly out of place as far as that goes. Aside from that, the staff was nice and courteous from check-in to check-out. One nice thing about the Nittany was that it was not far from the downtown area so getting out and about was not bad at all. I'd say downtown was roughly a couple of minutes down the road, so as far as location and getting around goes, this place is a good stop to stay. I probably won't be back to the Nittany unless there is a function or something there, but overall it wasn't bad...just not my kinda place.

Yelp
You provided life. Although cockroaches abound. One fell from air vent.

Yelp
Used to absolutely love going to this place, till we found out my kid has a severe nut allergy. The kitchen refused to feed her ANYTHING!!!! Not even a piece of tomato or boiled pasta. Haven't been back since.

Yelp
Ate there in December 2012 for graduation celebration. They had a brunch or menu ordering available. Our party did both. The brunch buffet was good with a lot of selection. I would not call all the food outstanding. Several people ordered off the menu and had very average salads and crab cake sandwich. The atmosphere was fine, but the food would just be okay.

Yelp
A charming venue that knows how to make an evening special. We celebrated 35 years and arrived to rose petals on the table in a private room. Thank you for making things special.

Yelp
Absolutely disappointed. The hotel is beautiful - the front desk, however, were unfriendly and unaccommodating. I am staying here for a conference and was quoted and confirmed a price for a room. Upon arrival I was charged a higher price. Even though I provided the confirming documentation ,Tom, the manager, refused to accept responsibility and instead blamed the conference sponsors. Although the price difference was minimal the response from Tom spoke volumes as to how they feel about accommodating repeat customers. After talking with Tom in the front foyer I was approached by other guests who experienced the same situation and were treated the same way. As I read the reviews I'm realizing this seems to be a common occurrence...

Yelp
On the plus side . . . Consistantly clean. Staff is helpful. They have never lost or screwed up a reservation. And you can't beat the convenience to campus. On the con side . . . Definitely a conference/blue hair/parent place to stay. Nowhere near the college strip, making going out to the bars or restarants where the students a driving/parking effort. Beds aren't all that confortable.

Yelp
Lovely building, lovely service, lovely breakfast. I can't think of a single thing to complain about (aside from the price, but hey...)

Yelp
We did PA on the Patio on Friday night...it is a wonderful outdoor setting, the service was fine, but the food was subpar...the worst brisket ever, and I understand that it is an outdoor type of bbq setting, but the price for the quality of food was ridiculous. It's too bad, it could be much better.

Yelp
A bit pricy, but by far the nicest hotel in State College. We always love to stay here when here for swim meets. The restaurant is great and rooms are always clean. Very traditional hotel - lovely. Service is fantastic too.

Yelp
I feel like hotels in downtown State College currently have monopoly on location, so there is no need for them to update/change. We recently stayed at the NLI before a New Year's Eve party. The location is walkable to downtown and, obviously, super convenient for those with an event on campus. The hotel itself was fine, yet nothing to write home about. It was clean enough, just in need of updating. It certainly isn't a hotel I would seek out and will only stay here if I want to be in walking distance of downtown. That being said, it's competitors (the Atherton and the Days Inn) in regards to downtown walkability aren't any better. The staff was, again, fine. No one seemed excited to be working, but, in their defense, it was New Year's Eve. The bar was, again, fine, but nothing to seek out. The bisque was, are you figuring out what's coming yet?, fine... If you need to be in walking distance to downtown, the Days Inn is cheaper and equally outdated. If you don't, stay at the NLI's big sister, the Penn Stater.
