Very nice, quaint place to eat. We sat outside. Our server was pleasant and thorough. Their menu is seasonal, so seemingly it changes a bit. But that's good because the food we had was very fresh. French toast was delicious. Fluffy and flavorful. My gf had the orange blossom pancakes that was equally delicious. All in all a great brunch.

I ate here for dinner on Christmas Eve and really enjoyed their special pre fixe. It came with a very reasonable wine pairing as well. I'd love to come back on a slower night to eat the rest of the menu. I also really like their breakfast but they don't take reservations and it's gotten really popular so the wait's pretty long. The baked goods like daily muffins and scones are excellent. Parking in Puck's Alley.

The place was busy, but the lines moved quite fast! The food was delicious and had a fairly big servings. I eat quite a lot so it was not enough for me. It was slightly pricy (average $18 a meal), but I think it's American prices. Regardless, the waiters were really nice and the food were an interesting mix of Asian food with American food!

You should definitely check this place out..Whether your in the mood for a nice brunch and coffee with a friend or their to try the there "fried chicken and waffles", they have a nice little ambiance about the place..I personally prefer the dinner menu here..I've eaten almost everything on it. I mean I'm a chef so that's a given, right?...Excellent sweet potato gnocchi or there braised pork belly. Or if you'd prefer seafood they have a GREAT cioppino dish that's a must try!..Oh yeah and they have quite a pleasurable selection of spirits too..

What a yummy treat. Came here for breakfast with the 'ohana and the nook didn't disappoint! Even had a stuffed half papaya that day! Can't beat that. Lots of savory foods to order and quite a few drink choices, to boot. Pretty cozy spot so be prepared to squeeze in with your party or maybe even opt outside to grub for an open air experience. Nice one! Will be back next time we're on the islands.

I really enjoyed dining here! Our waiter Robbie was friendly and welcoming! I had the Nola iced coffee, Americano hot and chicken and waffle for breakfast here. I would recommend it every time! I will without a doubt come back here to eat!

This unassuming little spot tucked behind a building in a very busy pay lot makes the effort to get there well beyond the price of your time. The staff were delightful and knew the menu well. We started with specialty cocktails which were perfect both visually and in taste. I ordered the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict which is divine. The Pork Belly is tender, juicy, and has a somewhat smoky flavor. The poached egg was very delicate and soft. The English Muffin seemed a bit too crunchy for my taste (barely able to crack with a fork) I also tried the Brunch Stack which is a generous sight and serving of Maple French Toast topped with cheese, topped with crispy bacon, then more french toast and syrup. I would recommend this dish every day! All in all The Nook is a place I tried to go to three times before (they are closed Monday's), I have had the best spontaneous moment today by being asked to brunch at The Nook. Now you go and ask someone and you both can enjoy The Nook too.

Google
You could tell they take pride in this place, everything about it was a hit, from the atmosphere to the great staff; everything you looked at tied this place together. The menu had such great options, they all sounded amazing, but I eventually went with the chicken and waffles and a cold brew coffee (and they were great). My friend and I tried the scone of the day when we went, and I believe it was a papaya scone with a lavender glaze, it sounded too good not to try and we were not disappointed.

Yelp
Gotta give them props for creating a spicy broth that had the perfect blend of spicy and flavor. A lot of places will substitute flavor with too much spicyness. I think this place had enough heat where i got just enough of a singe and warmth in my stomach but also carried a depth of umami flavor. I also had a sip of the shoyu and the spicy broth had just as much richness. That was nice to know. Im looking forward to dining here again

Yelp
Three and a three quarter stars. I know I am 2 years late for a review, but I am not always on this side to eat. I have wanted to try it for a while now. Walking into the restaurant makes me feel immediately cozy and welcome. The decor and the wood look I think is what made it feel inviting. Took a small table in the corner which was perfect. I went off peak hours and before any dinner rush of a Saturday night. It's a very casual setting and all the servers were friendly and helpful. Parking is first hour free and $4 after that. Please make sure to scan the QR code outside on placards regarding parking prior to leaving for your license plate is read and only the first hour is free of charge. You do everything online. Got there in time for happy hour and was recommended the garlic lover's gyoza and the yuzu miso one. Ordered one of each. The gyoza was very Japanese sized and the flavors were very mild. The sauces were very bold and a little bit on the saltier side for my opinion. The flavors also seemed to taste rather equal to one another so there wasn't a big change in flavor between one and another. We ordered a Red Hot Chii ramen and a Tanto Tonkotsu Red ramen. The gyoza came out almost immediately. Be careful because all the food comes out literally piping hot! Not a complain from me, but for those who are temperature affected please don't burnt yourself being too eager to eat quickly. The red hot chili ramen is exactly was described. It's very spicy and somewhat takes the flavor away from the flavor of the broth in my opinion if and only if your mouth cannot handle the spice. The tanto tonkatsu red ramen was more my flavor point. I enjoyed the rich broth, the crunchy wood ear fungus, the ginger and just the broth. All in all the noodles were cooked to perfection, Japanese all dente! They had a nice pull to them. Decided on some chicken wings afterwards that were karaage chicken pieces. They were juicy and flavorful and a very light coating to them which I appreciated. All in all it was tasty, just honestly I haven't return to try other gyoza. I thought that was going to be the star with the ramen broth. Could be I need to try just the plain gyoza next time. Price point it's decently priced for a ramen place in the location it's at. Staff again is friendly, food comes out quickly and efficiently. I was pleased with this ramen corner and will return.

Yelp
Favourite ramen and gyoza spot on island. Went on a Saturday around 1pm and it was pretty busy inside. The tables outside were free though so we sat outside where it was quieter. The menu has changed slightly since we visited last time, they have a whole new list of gyoza! Tried the garlic gyoza and they were really good! Husband got the Karaage bites and didn't care much for them, the sauce was almost Korean style - sweet and a little spicy. He prefers Karaage classic as in plain with a dipping sauce. Both ramen were fantastic as always, the broths were deep with flavor and the toppings are always fresh and delicious. Mine would have done with a touch more garlic but it still was great, I think I'm just a garlic addict. The char siu was so tender. Sapporo draught $3 all day! Served in an ice cold glass too. We will be back!

Yelp
As big fans of Hakata-style ramen (hard to find outside of Japan), we were excited to try Tanto Ramen. The food totally hit the spot. The restaurant is located inside Puck's Alley. There's a small parking lot in the back, but be aware: the parking system charges you automatically, and they don't validate. If you're coming for dinner, you'll almost certainly go over the one-hour free limit and end up paying at least $3. Not the worst, but kind of annoying, especially since they don't validate. $3 for parking on top of your dinner bill is too much. The interior of the restaurant made it feel like we were in Japan, but the outside still has some construction tape up, so it doesn't give the best first impression. And if you need to use the restroom... brace yourself. You'll have to ask for a key and head upstairs to a very ghetto bathroom. Honestly, it was so sketch with graffiti that I would be scared to use it at nighttime. Definitely one of the low points. The ramen however was incredible. We got the Tonkotsu Black Garlic Ramen, and it blew us away. The broth took us back to ramen shops in Japan. Sooo flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the flavor was deep and satisfying. Truly 5-star ramen. We love the skinny hakata style noodles so I was happy to find somewhere in hawaii that has it. Service was a bit of a struggle. There was just one server for the entire place, and while she was clearly trying her best, she just couldn't keep up with all the tables. Final verdict: The food absolutely deserves 5 stars. But when you factor in the parking situation, slow service, and less-than-ideal bathroom setup, I'm giving it 4 stars overall. Still 100% worth a visit for the ramen alone.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try and was actually surprised by how good it was. This restaurant took over Nook Neighborhood Bistro and it's located right behind pucks alley. Parking is easy, you can park in the little parking lot in the back or pay to park in the front by the little play ground. The restaurant is pretty small with limited tables, but we were seated right away. Service was a bit slow at first, but we got out food fast. They didn't really check on us after we got the food, but it was delicious and had a lot of flavor.

Yelp
Came here unexpectedly after I came from Nijiya (they shared the same parking). We were greeted immediately and we are early enough before the dinner diner arrived. The staff were so friendly and I love how patience they are too. Came full so I haven't really ordered that much. FOOD: Steamed Clams With Miso Sake - so good, the broth is so rich and love the seasonings in here. Make sure to get this! Thin Sliced Pork Belly Ponzu - you gotta order this! The sour taste compliments well on the grated-radish on top. Meat is cooked just right. Cold Tofu (shoyu ginger) - so light and mild but at the same time so flavorful. Kinako Matcha Dark Honey Vanilla - perfect way to end the savory, flavorful food that I order. Ohhh, I will surely get this again. Overall: T'was a great experience and my belly leave the place full and happy. Service was awesome. The staffs are the friendliest. Ambiance is pretty good. Highly recommended. I will surely be back for their ramen menu. Mahalo for reding and happy juandering fellow Yeeps.

Yelp
What a nice surprise this place was. Decided to come for a quick eats and glad I did. Friendly staffs, scrumptious food and chill ambiance definitely something that I did enjoy while dining here. Ordered the following: Thin Sliced Pork Belly Ponzu Tanto Crispy Karaage Lemon Sour Kinako Matcha Dark Honey Vanilla All that I ordered was bomb! Highly recommended and I won't mind coming back for these. All are well seasoned. Tasty, savory, sour all the flavors present are simply amazing. The service was excellent as well. I will surely be back! One Japanese restaurant at a time.

Yelp
My Japanese coworker suggested this restaurant and hands down the best ramen shop on island! The broth is so tasty and rich with flavors! This is definitely the go-to spot for those who are seeking for some authentic Japanese ramen!

Yelp
Baby and I went, Hubs met us little later. Made reservation through YELP. Super easy. We go dinner early cuz of Baby, but makes it better cuz less crowded. I hate that parking lot cuz stalls are small...but at least had spaces, and hubs said upstairs had choke. I have car so not too bad...hubs got truck so upstairs better. Right now got construction so a few stalls blocked off. Table wasn't ready, but no biggie cuz all we needed was high chair. They also brought plastic plate/bowl/utensils. - Tanto Salad - YUM. I guess it depends what's in season since hubs said last time had diffy stuff. Baby liked the tomatos, corn, blueberries. All the stuff I don't care for so was perfect. - Shrimp Mentai - YUM. Heave on the mayo, but that's okay. Sat on a small bed of spinach...more YUM. - Edamame - nothing special but cooked well. - One Bite Tonkatsu - JUNK. So overcooked. Dry, dry, dry. Baby liked the sauce and finally ate some tonkatsu after she softened it up by double dipping sauce and sucking it off. - Garlic Gyoza - Pretty good. Wrapper light. I guess I didn't think the Garlic part would just be the regular gyoza sitting in sauce. I was hoping for just a normal gyoza with the flavoring inside. - Steamed Clams - GOOOOD. Baby ate most of 2 orders. Hope babies can't get gout. Made her drink water. - Onigiri - Furikake for baby...she ate about a 10th. Mentaiko for me...I ate about a quarter, but baby stole half my nori. Even with hubs picking (he was just pupu-ing cuz had to go somewhere after) went home with 3 take out containers. Batroom upstairs. Pretty grody. Toilet moves, water running, rubbish, graffiti, stinky...but at least it works. I think got batroom inside too, but I am not sure how to get access to that one (Hubs did last time). Overall not bad. I guess they are known for ramen...but I gotta be in a rameny mood. I'd go back...

Yelp
AMBIANCE Cute, quaint authentic Japanese vibe. Wooden hard tables.Parking was easy close and free in the lot next to restaurant. FOOD The black tonkatsu with both pork and chicken broth was delicious, not overwhelmingly thick. Thin noodles how I like it. Toppings have a nice texture and flavors. Meat was the deal breaker for me-thick, GRILLED a little charcoally and tender. Not thin tasteless slices like some other places. I'll be back just based on that. SERVICE Smiley friendly attentive waitress doing her best. Came 12p, few tables. OVERALL Mahalo for a delightful lunch on a rainy day.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was attentive and quick. Server immediately brought kid's bowls and utensils for us without request. While they don't have kids' portions, they recommended kaedama (extra noodles)--the kaedama portion is quite generous. The ramen itself was cooked perfectly al dente and chewy. The broth was rich and tasty. Ordered the additional salad, gyoza, and musubi/onigiri lunch add-on. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night and overall had a pretty good time. First, a heads up--there's only paid parking, and they don't validate, so keep that in mind if you're driving. We got there to find all the inside seating was taken, but they had space outside, which worked out fine. We started with drinks: a lemon sour and a lilikoi version of it, both in the "mega" size. Unfortunately, these were pretty disappointing. Both were way too watered down, and there was just a ridiculous amount of ice in them, so the flavors kind of got lost. On the bright side, the cold tofu with spicy sauce was really good. The tofu was firm and had a nice texture, though I was hoping for a bit more spice in the sauce. Still, it was a solid dish. My husband and friend ordered the 16-piece gyoza, and they absolutely loved it. They mentioned the gyoza had a perfect balance of crispy and juicy, and it came with a trio of sauces--salt, ponzu, and chili oil. I couldn't try it since it's pork, but they were raving about it. I went with the Tanto Creamy Goma Ramen, and wow, it was so delicious. The broth was creamy without being too heavy, and I had them put the ground meat on the side. Honestly, I could've used a soft-boiled egg in the bowl, but the broth alone made up for it. It was so flavorful, I'll definitely be coming back for this. Despite a couple of hiccups with the drinks, I'm really glad we found this place. The ramen alone makes it worth coming back, and I can see it becoming one of my regular spots for sure! Also, the staff were super nice, friendly and helpful. I Always appreciate great staff.

Yelp
12/27/24 Well, we're back This time I had the shoyu ramen and tried the thin sliced pork with ponzu. Both really good. Their waitlist app works great! We signed up as we were approaching. By the time we parked and ealk d over our table was ready. Mithras really busy. People are nice and they sure hustle. Thank you again! Wanted a light dinner, Japanese noodles. Yelp came through! Searched and found Tanto, signed up On waitlist and headed over. Easy parking, enter through University Ave. We were in the queue for a table. Seated, server made suggestions and in no time, we had our ramen. Tanto is so convenient. Service was good, ramen was good. I had the creamy sesame with thick noodles, flavorful! We had the order of 8 gyoza... seemed like a vegetarian gyoza. It was ok. In and out in 30 minutes perfect for our Sunday night quick meal. We will be back
google avatar

Zofia S.

Yelp
My sister and I stopped by Tanto on a rainy afternoon, and it turned out to be a great choice for a cozy, satisfying lunch. The interior had a warm and inviting feel, with a calm atmosphere that made for a relaxed Sunday meal. We started with the cold spicy tofu, which was topped with crunchy garlic and full of flavor. For our main dishes, we both ordered the Tanto Creamy Goma ramen. It was rich, well-balanced, and very filling. To finish, we shared the vanilla ice cream topped with sifted matcha and a drizzle of honey. Light, slightly earthy, and a perfect contrast to the savory dishes, it tied everything together beautifully. Tanto delivered a thoughtful, comforting meal in a quiet setting that made it easy to slow down and enjoy. Would definitely return.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Fans of Shirokiya, rejoice! Tanto has a new home. The food was delicious, especially the delicately thin gyoza and springy noodles. Unfortunately, service, cleanliness and parking at this location (Puck's Alley) are not great. Hopefully it will improve, as the food has great potential!
google avatar

Laurie Y.

Yelp
Very small quaint place in Puck's Alley. You would never notice it unless someone takes you there! Very extensive menu! I ordered the Combo lunch that included choice of Ramen, salad, gyoza and rice bowl. Shoyu Ramen was delicious with 1/2 egg, and garniches. My piece of charshu was chewy! The gyoza was cute and tiny but crunchy and delicious! Took my rice bowl with chicken karage for take home.
google avatar

Shane A.

Yelp
Great find in Pucks Alley! Gyoza is on point. Nice crispy bottom, tasty stuffing. Comes with a small dish of salt, chili oil, and ponzu but you really don't need it because the gyoza has tons of flavor. I ordered the 3G Ramen. Garlic 3 different ways...roasted, fried, and garlic powder. This dish had tons of flavor! Wow! The noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy. My wife and son loved their ramen dishes also. Would definitely go back and try their different ramens dishes.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday night for dinner. They were working on the parking lot so we had to park on the street. We ordered the following items Takowasa - standard Gyoza- good but they only brought out 2 sauce trays for 3 people Red tonkotsu - favorite broth of the 3 ramen Shoyu - one of the better shoyu broths I've had recently Red hot chili ramen - spice adds up over time plus my friend got it even more spicy. Lilikoi hour - refreshing drink and not too sweet ! Both times I've been here i have been satisfied with the food. Portions are are a little smaller than other ramen shops but taste better than many others.

Yelp
Food is good , I ordered the (mexican cheese gyoza) they have all types of different gyozas . The ramen was pretty good as well . The chicken karaage bites were really good, medium spice . Just for the parking I believe you have to pay $8.99 not to sure about that part but that's what I payed lol.
google avatar

Yelp
So cute, very clean and organized unlike many little Ramen and Islzakya joints. The Sake clams were fantastic and I could drink the broth. Loved the red tonkatsu ramen not that spicy. Use app to pay for parking in little lot. No tickets no need to checkout just leave the lot.

Yelp
We came here for a family dinner based on recommendations from a friend. We parked in the lot in front of the restaurant. We didn't have reservations so we had to wait about 10 minutes for a Party of 5 before we could be seated. My friend recommended reservations as they can get really busy at times (but I didn't listen!) They have both outdoor and indoor seating - We were seated outside and it was a nice ambiance. We started with the Gyoza appetizer and they were absolutely amazing! Perfect size, crunchy skin, and juicy filling. We have 3 young boys and I think they could've eaten the whole dish by themselves! I ordered the Sapporo Miso Ramen and it didn't disappoint. The Miso/Shoyu Chicken broth was clean and flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The garnishes complimented the noodles well (I personally love Ajitama eggs!) A great place for a quick gyoza and ramen fix! Very kid-friendly and the staff are all so nice! Definitely on our family's list of go-to places moving forward.

Yelp
Me and a couple of friends try to get together about every other month, and we decided on trying this place for the first time. We had reservations and were seated. It's a small, clean place, but it feels pretty spacious. As we looked through the menu, the waitress brought us some water. We decided to share an order of their gyoza. They are on the smaller size (similar to ones in Japan) with a nice crunch and taste. We all ordered our own ramen. All the food came out promptly. The ramen was tasty, with the noodles cooked perfect and the soup base full of flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the food here. The parking wasn't too bad (but it was a Wednesday night). We would go back and try some of their other menu items, like their appetizers. Maybe we can invite a lot of friends and do the 100 piece gyoza!!!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
PARKING The parking lot can get kind of crowded as there are a bunch of other businesses in this complex. There's a covered area with a second ploor level. One thing great is, the first hour is free! RESTAURANT Very clean and well lit. There is seating indoors and outdoors. Tables are nicely spaced out so you don't overly cramped. The waiters were really friendly and answered all the questions we had about the menu. FOOD The gyoza is a must here. It's a little smaller than other places, but the taste is amazing. We ordered a 16 piece for our party of 3. It was barely enough. I think we're upping that amount to 24 next time! Ramen is great also. My wife had the Tonkotsu Black which had alot of flavor. However, she thought the ginger was a little too much! And she loves ginger...just not in this ramen. Shoyu Ramen was also great! Wish they added more pork though. As far as pricing, it's similar to other ramen shop in the metro Honolulu area. Pretty fair IMO. Would I come back? HELL YES!
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
What a cute ramen shop! Loved the ramen, gyoza and mazeramen here!! Sooo delicious! I also love that they serve French fries! Perfect for my kiddos who are always craving them! The soft boiled egg was made perfectly !! Service was great! They also have multiple high chairs for people with twins like me! It's a little harder to find because it's in the back of the preschool. They also have a parking lot, make sure you don't miss it!
google avatar

Yelp
Arrived at our reservation time and were sat right away. We opted for outside because it was nice out. Service was great. My friend frequents this place and recommended the mental shrimp, salad, salmon carpaccio, and Tanto mix black ramen. I ordered the tanto spicy gonna ramen and was very happy with it. Everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!
google avatar

Dianna R.

Yelp
The dip for the gyoza was good. There were a lot of flies outside. The ramen had too much sesame flavour and not enough umai flavour. The clams were quite small. Service was okay. Only filled our water once, and I think they forgot about my friend's ramen for a bit. The gyoza has a lightness to it. Quite nice, but it won't fill you up. They don't do half sizes. Overall, it had a pretty authentic Japanese taste, but it just didn't hit the spot. To be fair, ramen isn't really my cup of tea (I like udon more), but I felt I should try theirs. I won't order it again. The noodles were perfectly cooked, though. It just didn't change my mind on ramen. If I go back, I'll choose a rice dish instead.

Yelp
You know those spots that are consistently good, they just become part of your weekly routine? Tanto Ramen is that spot for us because it's reliable. The broth is rich without being overpowering, the noodles are cooked right, and the vibe is low-key but welcoming. It's reliably hearty . I appreciate the Authentic Japanese style because food should be true to what it claims to be...if that makes sense. Tanto doesn't try to overdo it or reinvent the wheel--it just delivers classic, comforting Japanese ramen with fast service. It's been satisfying every time.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic ramen place. Love the vibe, you can tell they really put some thought into the decor. We had the cream tonkotsu ground meat and spinach (great), black garlic tonkotsu (great), gyoza (solid). Be warned the shoyu broth is on the salty side. The parking is also very tight. At the time we went for lunch, they were cooking something spicy and their venting was not good, so I kept coughing due to the smoke.

Yelp
February 4, 2025 FREE PARKING the day I went. Upon entering the lot the arm automatically lifted up and it didn't require me to pull a parking ticket. It seems like the parking lot got a facelift and it was newly paved. Parking in a stall near the entrance of Tanto's. When I left the exit arm automatically lifted and let me out without payment. Came back this time for the Ramen. Ordered the Tonkotsu Black which is delicious. Service was great. I definitely recommend this establishment. I'll be back.

Yelp
Everyone deserves another chance so, since my initial review, my Ohana and I have been back to Tanto several times and have been pleasantly surprised with the service. Nice prompt friendly greetings are a thumbs up compared to my last review. We appreciate the owner addressing this. It makes a lot of difference on our total experience. The location is in Puck's Alley. Parking immediately in front of the store can be challenging when they are busy but there is a parking deck to the right up a ramp if you're willing add steps to your day. The first hour is free and it's $3 (an hour I think) after that. After a few visits, the Ohana has decided on a number of favorites. We enjoy the creamy goma and spicy goma ramens and, of course we must have gyoza. Personally, I have to be in the mood for Ramen so it is great that they have a number of side dishes that I really enjoy. #1 on my list is the Tanto Salad. There are 10 different things in it so if you have any food allergies you should ask what's in it. For me ... not allergic to any of it at all. It make my tummy smile Supplement my meal with the steamed clams with miso sake (you can taste the sake!), Yamada Wings, One-bite Tonkatsu and Takoyaki ... I'm happy and my family is happy because they help me finish the yummy flavors. Most importantly for my hubby ... beer is always cold. Our preference is to visit during the evenings. The lanai area is cool so we don't mind sitting outside when the inside restaurant is busy. During midday and afternoon the parking lot right outside is very hot. My hubby loves the fact that he can go in a comfortable Tshirt, shorts and rubber slippers. We always leave happy and with thoughts that we will be back again - soon.

Yelp
Might be my favorite ramen place in Oahu? I went with my Japanese boyfriend and even he approved! + Food: We got the gyoza and black garlic ramen. I love that they can do gyozas in big quantity cause you can take them home. The gyozas are well-seasoned, just a tad bit small for my taste, 8.5/10. The ramen was delicious! The Black garlic broth wasn't too heavy but still flavorful. Everything in the ramen bowl was perfectly cooked. + Atmosphere: It's a medium-sized, casual restaurant with inside and outside seatings. We came on Monday for dinner and there was no wait but the place was almost packed. Service was great and quick.

Yelp
Came on a Friday night so my friend put in res but when we got there, it wasn't super busy so we sat right away. Small restaurant but they do have outside seating. I really like that their broths are chicken based - places are usually pork based. I opted for the Vegan Miso ramen and it was SO FLAVORFUL despite having no char siu or other meats. It's probably one of my favorite vegan ramen that I've tried on the island so far. Broth wasn't too heavy or light. The noodles were also a good texture and were able to hold the flavor of the broth well. I ordered it spicy and they give you the paste on the side which was nice so you can adjust the spice level to your liking. I wanted mine to be a bit more spicy and I'm pretty sure I could've asked for more paste but I was already halfway eating my ramen. It was still really really good though. I also did try 2 pieces of gyoza. A little smaller than the normal size gyoza but I can see why people order them in large bulk. Also comes with 3 dipping sauces which gives a variation of taste of the gyoza. I would definitely come back again. Def added to one of my top ramen places list.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing Gyoza and Ramen. Some of the best I have had outside of Tokyo. Last time I got the Tonkatsu Ramen Black. It was incredible. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This shop is tucked away near the university and is worth a try. It's a bit small, so I would recommend reservations or joining the waitlist on Yelp on your way over. They have a shared parking lot and the first hour is free (there isn't validation aside from that). Love the gyoza here. They're cooked perfectly and super tasty. The salt and sauces pair perfectly with the gyoza. The pieces are on the smaller side, so they're perfect for sharing or adding as a side to the ramen. I like their black tonkotsu ramen, which is what I usually get at other ramen spots. But I tried the goma ramen this past visit and it was AMAZING. The broth is so flavorful and has a slight kick to it and the toppings were great. I don't think I would order any other ramen from here now that I've tried it.

Yelp
We came here when this place first opened and were blown away by the gyoza and thought the ramen was also good. However, after coming back again a second time, we were unfortunately less impressed. The ramen broth this time was very salty, and it was all of the broth flavors. Their char siu was torched which added a nice touch, but it was hard to get over the saltiness. The gyoza was still good but we liked it better the first time - we think it used to have less filling, so while it's probably a better value now, we really liked the thin wrappers which were harder to notice with so much filling. This place was still decent, but with so many other good ramen places in town, we'll probably go somewhere else next time.

Yelp
I had no idea this place opened in Pucks Alley! My gf and I stopped in for dinner on a wednesday night, and though it was looking fairly busy we got a seat outside on the patio right away. The staff is very friendly and service is efficient, we got waters and menus right away. After a little bit of deliberation we got the the mix black mazesoba, creamy goma ramen, a small (8 piece) gyoza, and tonkatsu bites. We also got the Kyoto matcha IPA to share--normally we don't drink on a weeknight but I can't pass up an interesting beer! Overall, food was pretty good. Mazesoba is rich and savory, like a condensed tonkotsu, and pretty salty, not a drinkable soup. More like a sauce. It also has thick, chewy yellow noodles, which are my favorite. Gf enjoyed her creamy goma, which had a light, smoky goma flavor and thin noodles to match. The garnishes of onion and miso ground pork added a lot to the dish, imo the broth was a little weak but that could be because I was eating the salty mazesoba. Gyozas were good too! Especially with a beer. As advertised, they are bite-sized and filled with vegetables. The skins are thin and the bottom was brown and crispy. They come with a trio of dipping sauces, I liked the classic gyoza sauce. We absolutely devoured them, I can see why it's advertised as 8 pieces per person. It'd be nice to drink with friends and just eat a bunch of gyoza, but it would start to add up! It's about $1 per piece. The one-bite tonkatsu was definitely bigger than one bite, but good nonetheless. The only small, actually-bite-sized piece was overcooked, but the larger pieces were crisp and had a good ratio of fat. They were a little oily, but the breading was really nice and crunchy. Strangely the only thing I found distinctly bad was the water. Maybe they keep the cups or pitchers next to the deep frier, but it tasted oily...kinda gross. Our dinner came out to just above $60 before tip and tax. Not cheap but not too bad for the variety we got. The rest of their menu looked pretty good and we will probably come back to try more!

Yelp
A couple weeks ago the rainy weather had me craving for something warm so ramen sounded really good. This place is located in Puck's Alley with shared parking and no validation, but the first hour is free. It was a pretty busy night and we waited about 20 minutes to get seated which wasn't too bad, considering that we didn't put our name on the waitlist prior to our arrival. They do have a waitlist through Yelp so I recommend putting your name down while on your way. Also they take reservations through Yelp so that's another plus! It's a pretty small place with about 10-12 tables and the servers were pretty quick with bussing them. I had the Creamy Goma Ramen and sometimes I find goma based broths to be pretty heavy, but this one was creamy and light. It also had a nice kick to it! The pork topping on the ramen was also really flavorful even after being soaked in the broth; you could still taste how well seasoned the meat was. I also shared an 8pc gyoza which came with three different dipping sauces: ponzu, chili oil, and salt. The gyoza was the perfect bite size. Overall, I would come back again because I think I found my go-to Goma ramen :)

Yelp
Tanto is located in the back of Pucks Alley. It's a small space with difficult parking. Once we got there, everyone is running around and won't make eye contact to help you. So even though we had a reservation, we didn't know how to check in. Apparently there are two iPads and it's self service so a bunch of people came after us checked in and then we figured it out. There aren't any signs instructing you to sign in and the two servers are very busy and won't stop to help you. Once we sat, we were against a wall with the other side of the wall being the parking lot. Which is full of people waiting. So several times during our meal, people poked over the wall to ask us to see our food, or borrow or menu. The other side of our table was a party of 8, with two high chairs. So it was extremely cramped and we kept bumping into each other. Once we ordered, we tried a bit of everything and it was tasty. Just not sure we'd return because of the poor service and cramped space. Others must feel it's very good because there is always a long wait to get in.

Yelp
Ramen was ok for $17.75 Takoyaki $9.75 7.5|10 I was ordering "Ice Green Tea" and it comes out just like other unsweetened ice green tea with the basic skinny tall glass then I knew I was ordering the wrong drink so I apologized to the server then show her the picture with the name of the drink I want to order. It came out with the exactly same glass, same color of green tea just look exactly like the 1st one I ordered and it's not what I wanted... it's just nothing like the picture, the glass, the color of the drink and I got charged $6.50 for that. The correct name of the drink, price, and container should be Green tea high $6 and the glass just like the picture I showed to the server. Thank you. We love the ambience. 10|10 Parking : 1st hour FREE then $3/hour

Yelp
Maybe I have to come back and try this place again, but I just didn't get the experience that everyone else had when they came here. First off, it was a busy night comparatively, but I only waited 25 minutes, which is short compared to other places that are busy. I also do have to mention that if your group is more than 6, be prepared to squish everyone on two tiny tables; this place is not that good for groups. But I only saw the outside, I did not get to see the inside so maybe the inside is good for groups...when there's availability. The group I saw that sat down before had to sit outside since there wasn't any room inside, unless they wanted to wait. As mentioned before, I only sat outside and you do have to wait outside, so if it rains hard then you probably have to wait in your car. I've seen that people make reservations on Yelp, but if you walk in you can make reservations on their kiosk. It was just my husband and I tonight and we decided sporadically to come here so I can finally experience this place! I felt so sorry to my husband with the way I hyped this place up only to come to find out our expectations were not met. The gyoza plates come in multiples of 8, I thought a standard four was enough per person but was surprised at the size. These gyoza were smaller than what I expected, but I do admit the taste was good; just good nothing too extravagant. Again, maybe my expectations were high for someplace with the word "gyoza" in it's name. The second food they're named after is ramen. My husband and I got a tsukemen and ramen, and I don't know if it's just we picked the wrong ones, but my husband and I agreed that the flavor could be more developed. The flavors were very surface level and sure it was good, but I just expected more or something amazing! For now, I'll have to stand by my experience that it just wasn't that great as the hype made it up to be. 2/5 stars is considered "could've been better" and I agree. I hope in the future I am proven wrong if I ever get the desire to come back here and give it a second chance I promise to try more gyoza and a different ramen/tsukemen.

Yelp
Great service and great food! Convenient parking and free for the first hour. We got the lunch special which came with 5 pieces of gyoza. Food came out hot and fast. We got the tanto creamy and it was perfect. Not too heavy on the cream it was just the right consistency. Friendly service with a nice clean dinning area. Will be back!

Yelp
Lucky we live in Hawaii, with so many places to choose from when the craving for ramen and gyoza possesses you! The other day my adventurous Foodie Buddy suggested we try Tanto Gyoza& Ramen in Puck's Alley (near UH Manoa campus) for lunch. We arrived as soon as they opened, and were greeted with a big welcoming smile. The interior is cozy and very clean. One wall is lined with what looks like wooden church pews (benches) dotted with 7-8 small tables with chairs. There's a very colorful bar on the opposite wall, and behind that is the kitchen. At night it must be a fun place to hang out and share snacks & drinks with friends. There were several lunch combo deals available, but we decided to order noodles and to share the 16-piece gyoza plate. Foodie Buddy chose Tokyo Umami Ramen, and I had Mazesoba (broth-less ramen) with Black Garlic Oil. It was a very satisfying meal! The gyoza there are small, tasty, one-bite morsels with three yummy dipping sauces. And our ramens were outstanding! Foodie Buddy said he especially loved the char siu in his Tokyo ramen and would order extra char siu next time. My colorful Mazesoba was beautiful to look at. I loved the chewy thick noodles, ground pork, poached egg, and generous serving of chopped chives and green onions. For me, there are usually never enough chives and green onions, but I was in heaven here. At the end of our meal, we were two very happy and very full piggies. Next time, however, we'll be sure to make room for Tanto Maple Toast for dessert!

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while in Pucks Alley. It's a pretty good spot with a big menu. Surprised to see hand rolls on there as well. Got to try the vegetarian ramen, shoyu ramen, garlic tonkotsu and the tsukemen. The black garlic tonkotsu is always the best for me. They don't validate in the lot and it's first hour free and $3 per hour after.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Tanto Ramen! First off, it's located in Puck's Alley in the old breakfast/ brunch spot. You can make reservations on Yelp or check in and join the waitlist. There's a combination of indoor and outdoor dining. Full disclosure, the outdoor portion is between the restaurant and parking lot. So you're near the cars and other guests waiting to eat. I went with a party of 4 and we all enjoyed our ramen. The spicy option for the ramen is not spicy at all. It's just a little hint of spicy. So keep that in mind. For our party, we all shared the 24 piece gyoza (petite and easy to eat) and the French fries. The gyoza comes with 3 sauces. 1 is ponzu based, the other is a garlic chili oil, and the last is a gyoza salt. All tasty and flavorful! I ordered the shoyu ramen which I really enjoyed! The chashu was tender and not too fatty. I also loved the bamboo topping and soft egg. My partner ordered the Sapporo miso ramen which comes with butter, corn, and a few other toppings. He made his spicy (+$1) and he said the spicy was very subtle. Our friends enjoyed the black tonkotsu ramen and the spicy goma. We also loved the noodles in the ramen! It's the smooth white ramen noodles. Parking is 1 hour free and $2 every half hour afterwards in Puck's Alley. I'll be back!

Yelp
Amazing food. Ramen broth was nice and rich. By far some of the best gyoza. Nice bite sized and with 3 dipping sauces. I really enjoyed the salt dip. Would definitely go back

Yelp
Coming back from my vacation to Japan, I needed a fix, and this place IS IT! When you open up that menu, the first thing it asks you is, "how many can you eat?" Gyoza, that comes in 16 to 100 pieces, I mean seriously, they're small but they're mighty, and you can't eat just one...dozen. And that Tonkotsu ramen, black, is so creamy and comforting, my mouth is literally watering again while writing this. Chicken Karaage, takoyaki, everything is made fresh to order. The servers are attentive and are trying to crank everything out as fast as they can. Because the items are made to order, the items may end up on your table at different times (not all at once) but that was okay with us, as it spaces out the time to eat and gives us more time to talk to each other. As for the restaurant itself, quaint spot with wooden seating. There's a stand outside where you place your name on a waiting list, but luckily when we went, there was no line and they took us in right away. Ample parking in the lot, costs about $1 or so for parking. Totally worth eating here and we'll definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Maybe it's just me but I had a Hankering for a really tasty ramen since I woke up this morning. I was watching Guy Hagi's Cheap eats on YouTube and got to entertain the thought to come here. My last Ramen experience was at Ramen Ya in Bougainville and it was okay but nothing to Yelp about. This little restaurant is worthy of the business. Great kind staff, clean environment, Amazing food!! Let's get to what I ordered and man I came hungry! I got the ORIGINAL Tanto Shoyu Ramen added the SPICY. Not worth it I wish there was hot oil it adds more depth IMO. So good the noodles had the right chew and the broth is magnificent. Got the Dashmaki Omelette Spicy-cheese and that is so eggy and cheesy soft I with there was rice. Also got the Shrimp Mentai Mayo which is so crunchy and I could've eat a Ramen bowl full of it. Tanto Gyoza is sensationally simple and could be served at a fancy tea house to replace those cucumbers sandwiches. The Garlic chili sauce is my favorite dip. So my favorite dish has to be a toss up between the One-bit Tonkatsu and my OG shoyu Ramen. Yes, I went over board but I've spent more elsewhere and wasn't 1/3 satisfied as I was tonight. I'm eyeing the menu to plan my next visit... Im thinking TSUKEMEN!! I say come eat this place become a regular. I definitely will!!!
