I initially chose the Normandy primarily because of the location and the proximity to the embassies. We arrived earlier than expected and hoped to park our vehicle and explore until check-in. Anisa, the front desk person who greeted us, regretfully informed us that no parking was available as it was well before check-out time. We then determined that I had neglected to add parking to the reservation! Being limited and on first come first serve, Anisa immediately amended the reservation to include parking. Options for interim parking were then given by both Tai and Anisa with a promise that we would be notified as soon as guests began to check out and parking a room was available. True to her word, I received a text about 90min later allowing for an early check in. The experience just became better and better from there. Comfortable, cozy rooms, reminiscent of a European boutique hotel. Extremely comfortable beds and lots of little details. The evening wine and cheese reception was a lovely surprise. Even though our stay was only for one night, our experience was exceptional. Thank you Anisa and Tai for your professionalism and making us feel very welcome at The Normandy! We look forward to a reason to return. You have become our go to hotel in D.C.

The location is very convenient, close to restaurants and city attractions. The rooms are on the smaller side, and the bathroom had a slight sewer odor, especially after flushing. The air conditioning unit is right next to the bed, which made it hard to sleep, we ended up turning it off even though it was a hot weekend. Overall, this place works if you’re traveling on a budget, but there are some comfort issues to be aware of.

This hotel is in a great location, the room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. However, there were a few issues during our stay: a persistent sewage-like odor in the room, a centipede in our bed (and another in my friend’s room), and even though I paid for valet, I still had to park my own car (twice) in their garage because there was no available attendant to park it.

I would really only suggest this hotel for folks attending events at the Washington Hilton or are spending their time in the surrounding neighborhoods. ||I had a conference at the Hilton and wanted to be able to “escape” the conference at the end of the day rather than staying on site. This hotel fit the bill well and most of the hotel was also conference attendees looking for the same thing. The courtyard out front and reception hour were a pleasant addition. ||The bathroom in the room was lovely but the room itself was dated and underwhelming for the price point. The rooms in the back look directly into the apartments across the alley and there is significant wear and tear on the future and curtains. The windows weee dates and didn’t keep out the sound of sirens, etc. Everything was clean though.||Friendly service from the staff.||This was a bit too out of the way and far from a metro station to recommend to tourists visiting the downtown/mall area attractions unless you plan on Uber-ing everywhere. Be advised that the whole area is on a hill if that makes a difference for you, especially at warm temps. However, the surrounding neighborhoods are lovely for a stroll. ||History/politics buffs - walk down to the lower ballroom entrance of the Washington Hilton to see where Reagan was shot. The venue also hosts the annual White House Correspondents Dinner and National Prayer Breakfast.

The Normandy Hotel is an outstanding hotel. It's located on a quiet street so there is very little city noise. The rooms arr clean and of a decent size. The staff are professional, efficient and friendly, with special kudos to Max and Annisa at the front desk. And they serve a good breakfast. I do recommend that you use their valet parking as street parking is very hard to find. Finally, it has an excellent location.

The Normandy Hotel is an outstanding, small hotel. It has an excellent location, within walking distance of many fine restaurants on Connecticut Avenue. The rooms are clean and of a decent size. The staff are professional, efficient and friendly, with special kudos to Max and Annisa. They also serve a very good breakfast. When we return to D.C. we will be staying there. If you're looking for an excellent, boutique hotel, I highly recommend The Normandy.

The hotel turned out to be nothing like the photos! The building and the room are very old, and there is a strange smell in the room. The coffee at the reception was cold. There is no parking. The room smelled unpleasant, we turned off the air conditioner, but it was still cold inside. I do not recommend this place.

4th of July weekend was a tough weekend, flights delayed and cancelled . We made it there I understand I didn’t make it the day I booked the hotel . Front desk informed me that since I didn’t show up the first day, so the whole booking was cancelled . I will be charged a no-show . Front desk informed me that they only charged me for the first day, and since I charged through Expedia, I can contact them to get some type of partial refund because the hotel said they only charge me for the first day. They made me feel they were understanding and confident I will get some type of reimbursement so I re-booked the place for remaining days but booked Churchill hotel first night. I contacted Expedia and Expedia informed me that they denied my request so I felt misleads and lied to . :/ |Just be honest I didn’t have to find out from Expedia hotel denied me

Yelp
My Lyft driver had a slight bit of difficulty identifying the building when we arrived, as the entrance is under construction. Check in was a breeze. The Woodstock typewriter near the check in desk is a nice touch of whimsy. My room had plain white walls, not the wallpaper (can't recall the fancy word for it) that's advertised as adding to the "Euro charm" of the place. Still, the room was cozy and the bathroom especially lovely. There were a Keurig and a safe, two things I look for, and also a refrigerator. Comfortable bed and bedding. No room service, but with such a perfect location, you can Door Dash from anywhere - I received my order from nearby Flavorture with perfect timing. The location is not only great for access to Adams Morgan, Dupont, and upper Northwest, it was quite convenient for a ride out to Tysons the next day. Had a great conversation with the young lady driving. In a few short minutes we were passing the Kennedy Center on our way out of the district, and we arrived at Tysons in a little over 20 minutes. Very pleasant drive on a Saturday. Later that night, I walked back to the hotel from Dupont with friends. The walk from Dupont is slightly uphill. Whew. We chilled for a bit near the fireplace downstairs, which was nice. The worst thing that happened during my stay was that I woke up at 2 a.m. concerned that I had expired and rather than having met my maker, had arrived in a red and fiery place. My room was 86 degrees! In a half awake frenzy, I tried turning the heat down, but soon remembered I'd already turned it down and the thermostat must have been malfunctioning. I attempted to turn it off completely, but it kept running. When I called the desk for help, I was told that the only thing they could do is have someone check it out in the morning. I worked frantically to get the windows open and had some difficulty, but managed. The room eventually cooled and the heat eventually shut off. No one ever came to look at the thermostat; I just left it on 65 for the remainder of my stay. It was never cold in the room in spite of the thermostat being so low. The next morning flurries were falling, and I appreciated my view of the street. I appreciated the late check out time - noon - and that absolutely no one knocked on my door or called up; I left my room at 12:30. I was told that breakfast is European style - continental with a few breakfast meats. I passed, but checked out the dining area before leaving. It's cute, and what really caught my eye was the outdoor seating - made me consider staying again in the spring or summer. I especially enjoyed my walk to Adams Morgan. My route took me through part of residential Kalorama, past the park, and just like that, I was in Adams Morgan. Even carrying my luggage, it was a pleasant walk on mostly level terrain. I would stay at the Normandy again. Location, location, location.

Yelp
Came back in 2024, and I have to say it wasn't even close to the comfortable and welcoming stay I had when I first came here. As soon as I checked in, I put my bags down and discovered the toilet was blocked. I was in a rush to grab dinner with friends in town, so I didn't have time to wait around for the handyman. I informed the front desk as I was walking out that my toilet was blocked, and they recoiled as if they were disgusted and it was my fault. Well, I was disgusted too. For the rest of my stay, there was small problem after small problem. I was exhausted and had an important meeting the following morning, but the alarm in the room blasted at top volume at 4:30am, jolting me out of bed. Whoever turned over the room should have reset the alarm between guests. I didn't fall back asleep, and was bleary eyed when I went to my morning meeting. The following night, I had trouble sleeping because the alarm lights were so incredibly bright and lit up the whole room so it was not even dark. I couldn't figure out how to unplug the alarm, and when I asked hotel service, they couldn't either because the wire went into the built in. Oh, and when they were trying to figure it out they turned the 4:30 am alarm back on even though I disabled it the night before, so I was once again jolted awake the following morning. The shower was as small and the door didn't seal shut, so when I took a shower the entire bathroom was flooded. I used up all the towels to mop it all up, and called the front desk to let them know and also to request more towels. When I returned in the evening, the towels had not been brought to my room yet. I called, and they said they would be right up. An hour later, I went to the front desk and reminded them, and was assured they would be up. Two hours later, I gave up and went to bed. The following morning I once again went downstairs to politely request towels. The staff got snippy with me as if I were a difficult customer because I had reached out so many times, when all I wanted were towels so I could shower. I'm not sure whey they weren't replaced during service. There were a couple other issues with reasonable requests and problems not being addressed. Each time, the man at the from desk was snippy and treated me like I was a problem guest despite me being polite and patient. The one saving grace of my experience here is that the older man who had helped me when I first came 10 years ago was still here, and we had a lovely chat on my last day when I spotted him in the hallway and said I remembered him. But other than him, the staff were snippy and rude to me and I didn't find my stay either welcoming or convenient.

Yelp
Affordable and great location. I didn't like that I was all the way on the top floor and in the corner being a solo female traveler. Can be a little scary but I just stayed in the room when i was there. Rooms were outdated and the channels did not work. Only like 5 and plenty of news channels. No other complaints.

Yelp
The good: Affordable In-room air conditioning worked well, despite 95+ degree heat Great location, lots to do within walking distance, but not super touristy Free wine and cheese hour in the evening Rooms have fridges The bad: Elevator and hallways were not air conditioned Wifi was terrible Key cards kept getting deactivated. Had to get mine reset twice during my five night stay The depends-on-your-preference: Housekeeping is by request and you must request one day in advance

Yelp
Beds were very comfortable! Room was clean & the staff were very helpful! Great location for our specific needs! Just a few things could have been improved on! We went in November & during an unseasonably warm weekend! Due to that fact, the master air conditioning had been switched to Heat & all we could do is turn the heat off but not switch it to AC! They did deliver a box fan to help circulate air & luckily the windows were ones that could be opened & we were on the 6th floor, so city noise wasn't too loud with the windows open at night! The wine & cheese hour was Very limited! It would have been nice to have a soft drink option for those that would like to socialize but not partake in wine! Our specific room & bathroom was very tight due to being in the corner of the building. But overall, I would come back for another visit & specify that I wanted to have a different room!

Yelp
We came to The Normandy Hotel for 1 night as a DC getaway. The photos of the hotel on their website look very nice but are very misleading. The pillows were very firm so my boyfriend went to get a softer one. The male at the front desk acted like my boyfriend was stupid like the pillows were already soft. We were told at check out that they are unable to run heat and A/C at the same time in the building. Therefore on a warmer December day we could not turn the heat off and our room was at 76 degrees when we had it set to 70. The sink is flat, therefore when you turn the water on it splashes onto you. The shower head must've been put on wrong because it was pointing straight down. I could point it back towards the wall but not towards me. There are much nicer hotels in the city for the same price or cheaper. Spend your money elsewhere, trust me you'll be glad you did. Update: When we checked in we were charged an extra incidental charge that they said would come off afterwards. Most hotels would just refund you the charge. This hotel obviously doesn't like doing things the convenient way. They charged my card again with the cheaper price bringing my debit card into the negatives. This is unacceptable and I have never seen any hotel do this.

Yelp
Loved my 4 night stay here! My room was wonderful. Clean, comfortable bed, quiet and adorable room. Front desk was always helpful and kind. There is no AC in the hallways but there is in the rooms and mine worked great. Fun wine hour and great location. When back in DC will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I loved my stay here. I was in the area for a conference but the conference hotel was too expensive so I stayed here which was a few blocks away. It's a boutique hotel so it's small and quiet but service is top notch. They really pay attention to details here. It's also nicely decorated. They do a wine hour where they offer a free red or white wine in the lobby, and you can add on an $18 breakfast although I didn't think it was worth the price given the limited options. This will probably be my go to hotel whenever I need to be in DC.

Yelp
This was a pretty disgusting stay. It was hot throughout the hotel, elevators, hallways, stairwell. More importantly, the air filter is so dirty that it's furry. I saw a filter with a date from 2020!!! It's 2024! I'm pretty sure that's a code violation. Proof of why my room and my groups couldn't breath constantly coughing through out the night. My room was changed the first day due to it being too hot, as well. So what is the protocol or frequency for changing basic air filters?

Linda ..

Yelp
I checked in at 10 p.m. and was given a room with a toilet that ran every 10 seconds, an A/C unit that clattered and roared inches from the bed and a tiny window out to an air shaft with more noisy equipment. I had specifically asked for a quiet room. This room sounded like a factory. I asked to be moved and was told I could only be moved in the morning and that someone arriving at 11 p.m. might be able to address the toilet issue. Exhausted from my trip, I walked out of the hotel at 11p.m. in the rain and took a Lyft to another hotel. The desk employee didn't seem to care. I'm not a difficult guest and it takes a lot for me to refuse a room. I won't be returning.

Yelp
This was my first time staying at the Normandy and will most definitely be my last. The positives are that it is a very cute boutique hotel with nice rooms and a fairly comfortable bed but that's about it as it's not worth spending your money here. When we booked the hotel, they did not tell us that the outside was being completely renovated, and that there would be jackhammering starting at 8 AM every morning which woke us up a lot earlier than we wanted to. The elevator broke down multiple times every day, and on more than one occasion, we were stuck in the elevator, while they tried to fix it. The managers knew this was an issue and did not seem too bothered by it. There were other small issues but they were addressed. I will add that the management team did work us on our bill and was very apologetic at the end but overall not very impressed with my stay.

Yelp
Great boutique hotel, comfortable, great neighborhood, FREE PARKING, centrally located... I was a little nervous when I booked this hotel, because boutique hotels are sometimes hit or miss. This hotel was definitely a charm! The day of my check-in, my flights were delayed due to weather and there was a chance of missing my connecting flight. Worried, because I had pre-paid for my room, I contacted the hotel and spoke with front desk clerk Shawn, who was very helpful in assisting me and giving me options. He assured me all will be fine and displayed a sense of empathy which is hard for people to do these days. I was very grateful for his assistance. Turns out I made my flight, and checked in later that evening. When I arrived, I was instantly impressed! Neighborhood: Beautiful upscale neighborhood! Clean and safe. Centrally located. The hotel is nestled between a residential neighborhood where many diplomats live/work. Parking: Many hotels charge at least $40-$60 a day for parking. If you are familiar with city street parking... You just have to read the signs! The signs in the neighborhood state 2hr parking limit Mon-Fri 7a-8:30p. Meaning after 8:30pm up to 9a you can park on the streets. It's a safe neighborhood and I had absolutely no issues parking in the area. Hotel: If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton... Then stay at the Ritz Carlton! This hotel is a charming boutique hotel. Its older, but you can tell they keep up with the maintenance. I reserved a deluxe queen sized room. I stayed in room 505, and later changed to room 507. The rooms are a little small, but I didnt mind it. It was perfect for 2. The lobby was clean and well kept. The hallways where clean, freshly painted, and well maintained. The elevator was old and had a little musty smell to it. Price: very reasonably priced. Also, they only place a hold of $50 on your credit card for the entire stay. Surrounding hotels like the Westin and Kimpton charge $100 per day hold on your credit card. I chose The Normandy hotel for this particular reason. I was moving my daughter into her first year of College and could not allow the hotels to hold $500 on my card. The Normandy worked out perfect for me! Breakfast: they offer a continental breakfast for $12. Very basic breakfast with bagels, muffins, apples, cereal. The coffe and tea are free. Staff: the staff was very helpful throughout my stay. They accommodated me when I arrived late. They accommodated me when the AC in 505 stopped working and switched my room to 507. I extended my stay an additional night and they were very helpful in assisting me with my extention. Overall, they were very friendly, knew the area well, made great suggestions and recommendations for things to do/eat. Problems during my stay: by the 2nd day, my AC in room 505 stopped working for no apparent reason. I noticed the temp in my room was 79 degrees and did not change. I tried to adjust the temp on the thermostat but it did not work. I left the room for the day, and when I returned the room was still 79 degrees. I called the front desk and they stated it was too late in the evening and they did not have maintenance on staff. However, they were able to give me the option to change my room to room 507. Room 507 was also feeling a little warm, and the temp was set at 74. It wasn't as bad as the other room, but it wasn't as cool as I would have liked it to be. I am not sure if they were having issues in the building or if it was just my luck. By the next morning it was a little cooler but I checked out that day so hopefully they worked out the issues. Overall, I would stay here again. It was a lovely hotel and I enjoyed my stay. Even though I had an issue with the AC, they handled it and they deserved the 4 stars.

Susan F.

Yelp
Poor WiFi connection, not handicap accessible, two pipe ventilation system that does not allow for heating and air to work in the building at the same time, inconsistent housekeeping, rude reception staff

Yelp
After my most recent stay, I, like some other Yelpers, must recant my previous recommendation of the Normandy Hotel. This saddens me to say since I used to think this hotel was a five star hidden treasure. They are in desperate need of a renovation or at the very least a refresh and deep clean. There was moldy grout in the shower, the vents were filled with dust/dirt, the carpet was filthy, and the bedding has seen better days. The throw blanket on the bed looked as though it had never been cleaned. I don't blame housekeeping for this - the place needs a deep steam clean, not the usual guest to guest clean. Amenities - The quality of amenities has gone downhill. I was given one packet of cheap shampoo and nothing was restocked during my multiple night stay. This goes for the coffee pods as well - I had to ask for more. If you're not going to provide housekeeping (perhaps for COVID reasons??) then you should leave bags of refresh items (coffee, shampoo, towels) on doors. Wifi - I had multiple issues with the wifi going out while I was there. Rooms - as others have mentioned, the room are small Euro style. This used to be okay because the tradeoff was worth it. But no longer the case. The walls are thin and you can hear most things going on in your neighbor's room. Also, while I know the management tries to stop it, the pot smoking is prevalent - I could smell it every time I walked down the halls and sometimes it drifted into the room. Service - The service is hit and miss. One staff member was extremely friendly and went above and beyond during my stay. But a young woman working there was absolutely horrible. She seemed annoyed to be working there and had an attitude before I even spoke to her. Then she was extremely rude and pestered me (three emails and two phone calls) to get checkout even though I had previously spoken to her about a late checkout and paid the extra fee. I did get a late checkout but not to the time to which she agreed to on the phone. After departing the hotel, I went online to see if they were sold out - nope, I could've booked at least 8 rooms!! So why the rudeness and push to get me out after I had paid over half a room rate to stay?? Seems like customer service 101. My whole experience just leaves me disappointed and confused. This is a prime location and cute building with so much potential but it was squandered. I miss the Normandy hotel of several years ago - please come back!!!

Yelp
I actually really liked this hotel! The employees were all very friendly and the rooms were clean. Good location to either walk/short Uber ride to everything! Very quirky little hotel but I would recommend and I would stay again
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
The Normandy hotel did not have room service. This is something that should have been disclosed when I spoke to someone over the phone. I had requested towels twice. No one ever brought them. This hotel is disorganized and they don't have a main check in place. It's some old brown table and a lab top. There was a young man checking people in looked about 19. I do not recommend this hotel. It seems as if it was an apartment building turned into "hotel". They have no kitchen or breakfast or any type of access for food. We asked for extra water and they had to look for it. I would never stay there again.

Yelp
I had a perfectly lovely stay at the Normandy. I found this place on Hotels.com when forced to search for another place to stay in the DuPont Circle area when I discovered my conference and overflow hotels were all full. I was a bit a nervous when Hotels.com made me pay in full in advance. But there were enough positive Yelp reviews, that I decided I would go for it. Check in was easy. I arrived towards the end of the complimentary wine and cheese hour. My room was ready and waiting, even with a late check in. The room was small, but plenty of room for me, traveling solo. The room was pleasantly decorated, including a modern bathroom. The bed was nice and clean (am I the only crazy one who checks everywhere I go for bugs?) and pretty comfy. I had the $12 continental breakfast the next morning. I had my choice of breads, bagels, yogurt, cereals, coffee, tea, juices, etc. It was enough to get me going and very convenient too. The neighborhood is great too. Easy walking distance to great restaurants and close to the conference hotel where I needed to be for my meetings.

Yelp
I was really second guessing myself about whether or not to stay here after reading some of the previous reviews about this place, but still decided to give it a try. The location was cool considering that there's public transportation nearby that gets you everywhere. I was really impressed with the room when I first got there. It looked clean and had a nice set up. Bathroom was really nice. Now the BIG cons about this place that are making me regret staying here... 1. The walls are EXTREMELY thin. Someone in a room near me brought their dog and I could hear it yapping and crying consistently throughout my stay. I also heard when someone down the hall yelled about having the dog shut up LOL. - Also, as a woman traveling to DC alone, the constant sound of doors opening and closing and hearing people talk around me made me scared at times because I felt as if people were in my room. It's that loud. 2. On the note of thin walls, I could smell someone smoking cigarettes and weed throughout my whole stay. Completely unacceptable and the smoking outside policy should be ENFORCED. 3. There was an incident on my third night where the room directly above me was calling for help out the window?????? I heard the person working the front desk outside saying that they were going to call the police? Don't know what that was about but it made me uncomfortable especially having people walking in the street look from afar and never heard if there was a resolution to what happened... 4. Last but not least, the service is not good. No daily housekeeping to make the beds, the WiFi service is bad, the cellular reception is bad, cable service was going in and out. When I was greeted for check in there was no customer service given. I also asked reception for a disposable plate and the man working made me repeat myself three times and still didn't understand what I was saying. Kinda made me self conscious about my accent. Overall not TERRIBLE, but I had questionable experience in this hotel. If you want my obvious opinion, I would look for another place to stay.

Yelp
This is a great boutique hotel for your value! The location is prime, just off the beaten path, while still being central. You can walk to the heart of Adam's Morgan or Dupont Circle in less than 10 minutes. And while it might seem a little less flashy than some of it's big name competitors, the hotel is super cozy and the staff is always looking for ways to best accommodate guests' needs. Since I was booking rooms on behalf of a large group, I had the opportunity to work with a number of employees on The Normandy team and every single person was on top of things, albeit communication or logistics. Although there is not a gym on-site, The Normandy offers guests access to MINT - a gym and spa that is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. While it may be less than ideal, hopefully the Nespresso machine in your room will make up for it. My only disappointment was that the walls between the rooms seem to be very thin. I could hear the person next door cough, shower and talk on the phone quite easily. Luckily, I didn't have any rowdy neighbors so it was not disruptive to my stay, but something to consider if you're really sensitive to noise. Overall, I'd enthusiastically recommend booking here. It's a great, quaint lodging accommodation and potentially one of the best deals downtown.

Yelp
I really loved staying at this hotel, the service was really outstanding. The rooms themselves were beautiful and I love a good updated bathroom. Although there wasn't much counter space they had shelves and plenty of under sink storage. I have a ton of products and it really wasn't a problem for me. The temperature was weird in the room though. The thermostat was pretty useless unless you wanted to lower the temp, which made me think the heat wasn't on at all. Now, I'd much prefer a cold room over a warm room, but man that room did get cold during the day. Luckily I didn't spend much time in my room and it was the perfect temperature for sleeping. The lounge area is quite beautiful and cozy. You can relax by the fireplace and sip on some complimentary wine and cheese during their happy hour. We rented out what I believe would normally be their breakfast room for our conference and it was perfect. Had a ton of natural light which for me is key when you are sitting there all day. The only thing they really need to improve is their continental breakfast, for the price it was severely slacking. They need to add in a nice fruit tray or something. Would stay here again 100%!

Yelp
Horrible customer service overcharged me on one of my rooms no ice machine no vending machines no restaurant no breakfast staff were extremely rude will not give me back what they over charged me will never come go back to this horrible run down hotel

Yelp
Time for an intervention! We used to recommend The Normandy for family and friends visiting us. Never again. It's hard to believe how disgusting this place has become. The missing shampoo can be overlooked, but not the moldy vent. And not the blood spots on the pillow, the used razor on the bathroom shelf, or the empty light canister. Or the absence of a deadbolt. Or the STRAY PUBE on the edge of the bath tub! On top of all that, there was no food or coffee service. Stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Thank you, Tara L, for finding this fabulous boutique hotel! The Normandy was perfect for our needs. A few things that stand out from my two night stay are: *the staff - everyone was super attentive and kind *clean rooms and comfortable bed *complimentary wifi that works *continental breakfast *super competitive pricing *a conference room where we could host our meetings during the day *convenient location *daily wine & cheese hour (even though I didn't get to take advantage) While the Normandy does not offer a fitness center in house, they do have a partnership with nearby Mint, where I worked out one of the mornings during my stay. It's a 10 minute walk - just enough time to wake up and warm up a bit before my workout. The rooms are a bit outdated, walls a tad bit thin, and the elevator moves slow, but all of that kind of adds to the charm of this place... all of the pros listed above make up for those things. I'd definitely stay here again on future visits to the DC area.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed two nights here while museum-hopping, hoping for a cozy stay in a non-cookie cutter hotel. We got the second half of that, in spades. Our "luxury king" room just about held the bed and desk, but what set us back on our heels immediately was that the room was 82-degrees and stuffy, and the thermostat was non-functional. I went back to complain and was told (as others have said on this site) that the city controls heat and ac, so all they could do was offer me a box fan and suggest I open the room's one window; also offered to comp one night of stay, which was nice. We were able to sleep marginally well, with fan blowing on us, since the mattress and linens were good, but by morning we'd learned that the thermostat was not the only thing non-functional in the room. The list is as follows: (1) Keurig coffee maker leaked water all over the place; (2) electrical plugs in bathroom did not work; (3) bathroom vent fan did not work; (4) smoke alarm had been pulled off wall and did not appear to be working; (5) shelves in bathroom installed on a slant so they would not hold our items; (6) stains on worn old carpets; and (7) dim lighting in room. The bathroom appeared to be updated with a rainfall showerhead, but the water pressure was so poor that our shower was more of a drizzle. I shared this list with clerk on checkout, but based on other reviews, staff apparently knows about these things, and may be powerless to fix them. We joked that the room seemed like a prop set for a movie. Please note that the hotel now charges $40 for garage parking (and may not have a spot available). We were lucky and found a free weekend parking spot on same street. Also, hotel now charges $18 for a sparse continental breakfast (grocery store bagels and pastries, some slices of processed meat). You're a 5-minute walk from some great breakfast spots (recommend Lapis), so skip that, as we did. The staff was friendly, other guests seemed largely international travelers. You're in between Adams-Morgan and Georgetown, though a good 15-minutes from a metro station. Whew boy.

Yelp
European Charm and Modern Amenities Located in the fashionable Kalorama area along with Embassy Row, this quiet location was just great. Regan Airport (DCA) is only 6 miles away. Convenient access to the best attractions in DC. European charm and modern amenities make you feel right at home. Complimentary WiFi and Nespresso coffeemaker are in each room. Service was top notch.

Yelp
Pictures online absolutely DO NOT reflect the state of the hotel. The place was completely worn down and gross! It's one thing to be a little old and worn down but this was plain dirty and and dysfunctional. After entering the small room, we noticed a lamp was broken and the walls and heater were all dirty and full of marks. One of the bed frames was broken and made my dad almost fall off when he tried to get up. There were stains on the sheets and while we asked for new linens, we discovered that both comforters did too (we didn't get a second set of these). There was a stain on a towel in the bathroom. The windows were hard to open and you could hear everyone slamming doors and screaming from other rooms. They don't have a cancellation fee but luckily we got refunded the other nights we were supposed to stay after we decided to leave early (although they should've refunded for the one night we did have to stay in this gross room). For a hotel that claims they don't do room service due to COVID, their oversight on the cleanliness doesn't add up. Only positive side was the staff was understanding upon our ask to check out two nights early due to this situation.

Yelp
I'm a little surprised this hotel has so many 4/5 star reviews! Good: Location, it's off of Wyoming Ave on what looks like a very residential street. It's hard to find at first but it's within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Clean, it's a bit older but everything seemed very tidy and neat. The decor downstairs is really quite nice. Price, I booked on hotels.com and the price was good for the location. Quiet, the walls weren't paper thin so that was cool. Bad: The room was very dim (possibly because the lights weren't working well) the lamp in the room had to be turned ever so slightly to work and the sconce in the bathroom didn't work at all. There was a light switch that didn't seem to do anything. The elevator was super slow. Super slow. The water pressure and temperature in the shower was not good. I didn't feel like I got a good shower the 3 days I stayed here. Worst of all, the WIFI was terrible! Normally I would just switch to my cell phone data plan but both me and my hotel mate didn't get great service here (her Verizon me sprint). This isn't a terrible hotel at all but it DEFINITELY is NOT 4 yelp stars by any stretch.

Yelp
Do not book here. I booked a room only to find out they gave my reservation away when I called to let them know I was checking in late. Now I have to find a room on my own and all they can say is sorry. Do not be scammed by them!!! And then be left hanging out to dry.

Yelp
Pretty tiny well-appointed European style hotel on a residential block in the embassy district of DC. Room 501 felt homey, had two smaller beds, with beautiful blankets of what felt like cashmere, a modest blush colored slipper chair, and plenty of light. There's a Nespresso machine in the room, which came with two pods. A light Continental breakfast served in the solarium is included with the room. Snow fell during the night lightly dusting the avenue, adding more charm to the neighborhood. Bottomless carafs of coffee braced the international guests for the first day of March.

Yelp
The halls were dirty and dingy. The AC in the room was hit and miss. It was an oven in the hallway. The elevator smelled like urine and we had maid service once in five days. There was zero internet service even with their WiFi. The reason I gave it two stars was the location. Lots of excellent restaurants within walking distance and staff was friendly.

Yelp
Clean and comfy hotel! As a group of 3 girls staying here we felt pretty safe. The doors to get in the building lock at 9pm and you must use your room key to get back in. They were also doing renovations while we stayed. Lots located around the building in walking distance. There is free parking in walking distance from the hotel, don't pay the valet fee! Pull the car up to load your luggage when you leave. Overall would stay again.

Yelp
Third year in a row staying at this quaint hotel. Cons: Dated and need some renovations No microwave on sight Intricate coffee maker with no instructions Pros: Top Flight staff-They warmed my food up in their microwave, so I didn't have to eat cold oxtails Great shower in our room Best COOKIES ever! May be moving on to a bit more swankier hotel, but I will not forget how great the staff was as well as the great neighborhood it is tucked away in!

Yelp
The Normandy Hotel is one of DC's best kept secrets. The Normandy is located between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, approximately a ten-minute walk to each. It is situated on a quiet street in the residential neighborhood of Kalorama, nestled amongst stately townhomes (some embassies.) If you didn't know it was there you could miss it. A small boutique hotel with a lot of charm, spacious rooms and lovely common areas. There is parking below the building ($40.) continental breakfast is offered in a quaint seating area and connected glass terrace. The first room we had was very large with coordinated bedding, wallpaper and curtains. It had a queen bed with a small foyer and separate bathroom. The second room also had a queen bed, but was a bit smaller, more like a standard hotel room. What made each stay perfect, however, was the staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to make guests comfortable. A special shout out to Brandon at the front desk, who was a lifesaver in helping me deal with family visiting for Christmas. Not only did he make my mom feel safe and welcome and comfortable, but he made sure every request was fulfilled to beyond satisfaction. THANK YOU BRANDON!

Yelp
Have been experiencing issues from check in forward. Toilet won't flush and have advised staff twice. They have no one here today who can address the problem. The door knob to the bathroom came off in my hand. Water pressure in the shower is so poor you have to stay in there forever to rinse off. I travel a lot and understand that things can go wrong but there is typically someone there to make repairs. A non-flushing toilet is quite unsanitary.

Yelp
I have stayed here before and loved it- the lobby, rooms, reception and breakfast. Always met fun and interesting people. Unfortunately the clientele this time was different. From 10pm-4am I dealt with loud, obnoxious partiers. Slamming doors, yelling and swearing. Management attempted to resolve with no success. Was about to call the police. No sleep. Ruined my stay. Spoke with the manager the next day. Disappointed in his response. He was going to 'take care of me' on my next visit. There will be no next visit. Will need to find another boutique hotel in the area. Disappointed.

Yelp
Although hesitant at first due to other reviews when booking we were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service, care, and quality of the rooms that were like 4-5-star hotels in the area. The Normandy Hotel was near many delicious restaurants and stores in the area. Parking was easily accessible with 2-hour street parking M-Sat and easy access to valet parking under the hotel (40 dollars). The location of the hotel was very safe, and we were able to easily walk our 1-year-old French bulldog in the neighborhood. There are a lot of other dog owners in the area which made his walk even more exciting. Hotel was extremely pet friendly which was a definite plus. The hotel was well maintained and lots of updates were made to have a modern look. As described the rooms do not have their own control to heat/ AC but the temperature was maintained at a comfortable temperature. We had a double queen room which had a flat screen tv, marble bathroom, in room refrigerator and Nespresso coffee machine. The beds were very comfortable and had down comforters. The manager, Nigel, was extremely helpful and did an amazing job to ensure we were comfortable during our stay. Any questions or concerns we did have were promptly addressed. Every staff member with whom we came in contact was attentive and kind including housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services. I believe if you are looking for a combination of a great hotel at an affordable price than the Normandy Hotel is for you. We will always keep Normandy Hotel as our first choice when visiting the Washington DC area due to its proximity to many restaurants, shops, safe location, well maintained rooms, and great staff. Thank you again for such outstanding service.

Yelp
My favorite hotel to stay in when I visit DC! I have stayed here many times and each time is just as great. Located in Dupont, this hotel is tucked down a quiet street. If you are just staying for the weekend, you can usually find free street parking easily. The hotel has a dated look but doesn't feel old. It has charm and uniquely decorated rooms with updated bathrooms and very comfy beds. The staff is always very friendly and happy to give a ton of great recommendations for things to do nearby and usually have discount passes for different museums or shows. I usually come to DC in the winter and the hotel has really great rates - so keep your eye out!

Yelp
Wish I could leave negative stars. Room 205 is a small ass box. No heat and no way to turn it on. Front desk instructed me to close the windows. you can hear people in rooms all the way down the hall. Wall paper peeling. THIS PLACE F*****G SUCKS!!!!!

Yelp
The Normandy Hotel is in a great location in Washington (Kalorma Section) near the Adams Morgan neighborhood, DuPont Circle and Embassy Row. It is located on a quiet street and in a really cool, diverse neighborhood. Two metro stations are within a 10-minute walk and also all of the great restaurants on 18th street. The hotel itself is beautiful on the inside. The lobby has several sitting areas and also outdoor seating in the front and small patio in the back. Everything was very clean and the people at reception were outgoing, helpful and extremely pleasant. Our room itself was great, we stay in boutique hotels often and this was one of the nicer rooms of the boutique hotels we have visited. We had a double superior room and we did not find it at all cramped. We did not have a lot of luggage, but there was more then adequate space and storage. The Nespresso machine in room machine was really good in the mornings and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was also very modern and well appointed. The room was quiet. The only small problem I had, and it was small, is that I booked and paid for a double room on TripAdvisor in advance. When I confirmed my reservation with the hotel a few days before our arrival, I was told by the Normandy's Sales Coordinator & Reservations Department that they could not guarantee a double room, as my reservation was not made directly with the hotel. I was able to get the double room easily that I booked when I arrived, but it may be advisable to try to book directly with the hotel to avoid a problem. The Normandy is a really great hotel in a really good location. We would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. The price we paid per night was also reasonable.

Yelp
I adore the Normandy. The room decor was elegant, the shower nice, the bed comfortable and the front desk staff was courteous and helpful. The uphill walk from Metro Dupont Circle station was not bad unless you just came back from a long day of sightseeing. I got a deal from Hotwire which made it very affordable. Till next time.

Yelp
My second stay in two years. I definitely dig this boutique hotel. On my most recent visit, I had the room overlooking Wyoming Ave. That said, I had to make sure my curtains were pulled because I didn't want to show off my birthday suit to all of DC. The front desk staff is very accommodating and quick to assist. The rooms are a little small but it's DC, I get it. Don't expect to break dance in your room and be prepared to walk around your door and toilet when doing things in the bathroom. I like the beds. I like that they have the pillows that are thicker. The decor is very old school DC. Very presidential like with their wallpaper and old school look. The wifi works quite well. Breakfast in the morning is mediocre at best but I was also spoiled with some really good breakfast buffets when I was in Europe a few months ago. If you need to wind down after a long day of work, there's free wine during their happy hour. If you need to park your car, it's $23/night (so my receipt showed that but I remember it being more expensive last year). Overall, a good spot and it's walking distance to a few shops and restaurants. Uber can easily find you so that's a plus.

Yelp
This past November it was my first time visiting Washington DC. I was all excited to take in the sites and be wowed by its history and patriotism. After a long day flying from Dallas to Baltimore, picking up my rental car and then driving to DC, I was exhausted. But this option was my choice and doesn't reflect upon this business. Wanting to be close to historical sites, The Normady Hotel is minutes north of the Dupont Circle, located in the Kalorama section of town. GPS is definitely my friend, especially when traveling to new places. I found the street on which it was located, but not the hotel. Weird. I know I am tired. So I park my car and contact their front desk for assistance. The young lady who answered was not very helpful or professional. Turns out, their next door neighbor was in the middle of renovations and had placed a huge metal dumpster right in front of this said hotel, which covered what little signage this hotel has. Who knew it was in a residential neighborhood?? Not on a corner and not well lite. And at night it can be challenging, especially for a first time guest to see or not to see their non- illumated signage. And who would allow a dirty smelly metal trash bin in front of their business anyways? What kind of impression does that make?? Not a good one. Once at the front desk, I was told to drive my car up their valet ramp and a hotel staff member will be out to assist me. So, I walk down the street to get my car, and there is very limited spots to park. Traveler beware. There are signs everywhere, most confusing crud I have ever seen. One spot on the street allows parking, another doesn't, but only for a certain time. DC is not a car friendly city at all. Anyways, I walked to my rental car, drove to hotel ramp, and waited. A few minutes go by. No one comes out. So I politely wait a couple more minutes. Ok. I am just too tired for this hiccup. Please baby Jesus, help me out. I go inside again, this time with all my luggage with me. Apparently I misunderstood that one is suppose to bring their keys to the hotel's front desk in order for their staff to park one's car inside their underground garage. This is going from bad to a nightmare. Valet is $40 a night plus tax, with access options. What used to be part of the hotels accommodations is now extra. That's crummy. I haul my luggage up to my 2nd story room and just collapse on the bed. Traveling can be so exhausting at times. There was no bellman to assist me, and I could of used a little help. There are a series of tiny stairs going up and down between the main hallway, the elevators, and the front desk. I love to tip and don't mind a few well spent dollars. Arriving around 8pm, I had missed the Normandy's complimentary cookie, cheese, and wine hour. And I really needed a glass of wine. Now my girl at the front desk had not explained where everything is or any food or drink accommodations. And she was quite aware this was my first visit. I call down to speak to a manager, one was not available. Sensing my stress and unhappy experience, I was offered a complimentary glass of wine. And believe me, I took them up on their offer, cheap wine or not, my nerves were really frazzled. A few steps from the front desk on the main first floor is a lovely guest area with an electric fireplace, comfortable chairs and a couch, board games, and magazines. With my red wine and a couple cookies, I tried to decompress and just focus on the fun and adventure I was about to embark on. Eight days to relax and let my hair down. I take a couple pictures, talk to a few friends, and let my family know I made it safely to my hotel. The usual traveling alone protocol. It's about 10pm now and I haven't really seen much of the sights. I schedule a Lyft ride and a car comes within a few moments. Walking down several blocks at that hour just didn't seem like the thing to do. My Lyft driver was very professional and helped to point out a lot of the usual historical sites. Time and money well spent. Back at the hotel I settle in for the night. One can tell walking in, that the property needs better maintenance. Paint is chipped. Doors and walls have scratches and dings where luggage had banged into them over time. The elevators look quite dated and ran slow. Everything was very clean, but one can tell where money to keep the property up had and hadn't been spent. The thermostat in my room was broken. Luckily, it was on too hot and not too cold. The manual blind under the curtains wasn't rolling up, so no natural sunlight for my room that morning. There were 2 bottles of complimentary water, which is nice. And the nepresso machine did nothing for me. I loved the Toile covered walls, furniture was decent. Their bed & bedding were divine. I slept like a baby. My bathroom had no formal counter, just space under the sink to place my travel bag for showering and such. The water pressure and shower were delightful. The styling is modern.

Yelp
My wife and I used to stay here when we visited Washington, D.C., but no more. After management changed, the service and the property have deteriorated significantly. One night in October, the rooms were approximately 90 degrees because they had a warm spell and didn't want to turn off the heat (the rooms have thermostats that give the illusion of control, but don't actually affect the room's temperature). There was no warning when we checked in or offer of compensation after we spent a miserable night there, even though this was an entirely foreseeable event that was affecting the entire hotel. Recently, I called to ask for an invoice for a stay a few months back (the Normandy had failed to email my wife her invoice). Apparently, only a manager can accomplish this and it would only happen if I call back when the manager is around (of course, the hotel staff has no idea when this will be). This level of customer service is particularly astonishing, because business travelers are the ones who request invoices and such customers are usually a hotel's bread and butter.

Yelp
We stayed here on a weeknight to explore Washington D.C. The hotel staff was so accommodating (the gentleman working the front desk Sept. 12th around 2-3 pm was great! He showed us where the elevator was, breakfast and answered all of our questions, he was also there the next day.) The breakfast was continental with a "European style," the hotel was comfortable and clean. The only downfall is that this hotel is approximately a $15 taxi ride each direction from all of the monuments- but I would recommend this hotel to friends.

Yelp
We came in from Utah and had the privilege to stay in this hotel during a conference for about four days. During our stay we felt very welcomed by the friendly staff. We absolutely loved the feel of this place. It felt "old world" and quaint and we loved it. It had several complementary amenities as well. For example fruit infused icewater. Also they would give cheese, crackers and wine at 5 o'clock during our stay, or fresh baked cookies if you'd prefer. They would greet us and open the door for us every time we came and even gave us an umbrella on several rainy days. It was a place where technology met our nation's deep and rich history. It is within walking distance to some great places to eat.

Yelp
Love this hotel! I stayed here for four nights while visiting a friend and my boyfriend and I loved the quaintness of this place. It's a bit of an uphill and downhill from the metro station but it's manageable. Very close to Dupont circle where all the shops and restaurants are. They have Nespresso machines in the room that only make espresso. Pretty good. In the lobby/breakfast area they also have a fancy coffee maker that can make cappuccinos and coffee. Most of the time in the afternoon it was out of milk though. They had a jar of cookies out in the afternoon that were so buttery and delicious. Lemon water was also left out. I think they allow dogs because I kept seeing a couple with their chihuahua go into the room across from us. Couldn't hear any other noise besides them coming and going from their room with the door slams.

Yelp
Room: King-size bed firm, comfortable. TV, flat-screen, fine. Internet, slow as molasses getting on, had to reboot several times streaming, but once on for email, Facebook, news, etc., seems fast enough. Espresso machine nice touch, works fine. Bath: Good, although I always worry a bit about showers with glass doors. Shower fine. Staff: Dealt only with the fellow at the desk, and he was helpful, personable. Overall: Very good especially for the price, location. Would've given five stars save for initial internet, and $14 for a continental breakfast. (Didn't partake, Starbucks .3 mi. walk instead.

Yelp
An elegant boutique hotel, The Normandy is in a great location, just a 10 minute walk to the Dupont Circle subway and 30 minutes to historic Georgetown. The Normandy is elegantly decorated and the staff super friendly and helpful. We will definitely return to this gem of a hotel!
