Our friends raved about the perfectly cooked beef Wellington here, and when we recently visited for a farewell dinner, we completely agreed with them. The other dishes were also delicious. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our meal and would happily return for another special occasion.

We had a delightful lunch experience here. We were on a hunt for a great Beef Wellington and photos from this place got us on the hook. The Wellington itself was the highlight of our visit - it exceeded our expectations! We had a few starters and a swordfish as another main - they were good but probably not perfect, at least not on the same level as the Beef. The desserts were excellent! I also want to highlight the impeccable service we received here - it was probably the most friendly and welcoming service we had in quite a while! I would recommend this place and would come again but I wish they add a bit more finesse to other dishes as well for this place to step up and offer even better experience!

This place is honestly epic. The place itself is cosy and super welcoming. The service is so good and everyone is so attentive but the start of the show has got to be the beef wellington. It's by far the best I've ever had and I've tried many many of them. The crumble for desert was also ridiculously good. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'd come to cambridge all the way from London just to have it.

Solid 4.6 Modicum rare scallops. Fresh and juicy (no fishiness). A little salty but go well with the pee puree, which is mellow and sweet. As a mushy pea lover, it’s a big factor in my decision to take scallop instead of prawn. Gnocchi surprisingly comes without sauce (or cheese), less fat I hope. Truffle is on the subtle side. Tomato is tangy and appetizing, interesting combination. Mushrooms are juicy but not slimy. Decided to try the poached pear even if it means I’ll need a takeaway and will still have sugar rush when I try to finish my dissertation. Coconut icecream is really refreshing, light, not too sweet. The pear is delightfully confusing— pear shape, orange color, peach texture, saffron aroma. I should have come earlier in the past four years. But until now it has been quite difficult to book :) Glad I came. Hope my parents can enjoy the food and lovely wine list here someday. Friendly and welcoming people actually. Looking forward to try the other starters and mains.

Fabulous. We attended for an early work Xmas party and I was very impressed with the attention to detail and level of service provided. Phillip was up beat, knew all of ours names and made the evening comfortable and run very smoothly. The food was beautiful all guests were very happy with their food and the portions were perfect. Highly recommend and would certainly return.

We were invited to The Oak Bistro for a recent business dinner, and the experience was flawless. The setup was perfect for our group of nine; we were seated at a great table that was quiet enough for effective conversation. Service was excellent and fast. Our waiter was highly attentive and, impressively, even remembered our names. We had all individually pre-ordered our dishes from the three-course menu. Despite the complex and diverse orders for a table of nine, the service was incredibly fast. While all dishes were delicious, the Beef Wellington was the absolute highlight. It was served as an individual portion, cooked exactly to perfection—truly a dream dish. They also offer an excellent, well-curated wine list. Next time I'm in Cambridge, I will certainly choose The Oak Bistro again. Highly recommended!

What a lovely place! The host is very charming and funny and made us instantly feel welcome, just like in a French countryside bistro. The interior is very tastefully decorated (I loved the painting on the wall above our table!). I ordered the Chargrilled Rib-Eye Steak with truffle butter and French Fries, with wilted spinach as a side, which was all cooked to perfection. The Chocolate Fondant with Stracciatella ice cream for dessert (I know I shouldn't have, but simply couldn't resist - though no regrets whatsoever!) was absolutely to die for. The main reason I had chosen this bistro was its proximity to the Catholic Church, as we had tickets to a concert, and I'm surely glad we did, as it turned out to be a fantastic choice!

Google
Nice lunch spot with exceptional service from Phillip. The lunch specials were excellent. All was tasty and fresh. The sardine pate was special. Great wine and beverage list. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this bistro on the way to University of Cambridge. The 2 entrees for £20 was a great deal for lunch. I didn't love my fish cakes dish but the cucumber feta salad app was really good! My boyfriend got the Beef Wellington and it was mostly good, too. Ambiance is good and great location. Service was kind.

Yelp
I was lucky to dine here twice in one day. I had the mushroom risotto as a starter but nothing else as returning in the evening. It was delicious. The evening party had beef Wellington, halibut and pork belly. All were enjoyed. The oak has a large wine list with plenty of variety. Service was very friendly so I'd love to return next time I'm in Cambridge.

Yelp
We ate here on a Wednesday evening, with a reservation for two. On arrival, we were quickly seated and offered water. The restaurant was full, but still quite relaxed and pleasant. Our drinks order was taken and we ordered food. We had the potato and mushroom cake and the prawns to start, followed by the beef wellington and the sea bass. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fondant, and a cheese board. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed it very much. The portions were also just right. The service was also great. All in all, we had a really nice evening and would return

Yelp
What a great place. Amazing food, excellent service, very reasonable prices. We had the smoked salmon terrine, the prawns, the scallops and beef Wellington and highly recommend all of them.

Yelp
I am literally still here eating and just had to write this. This place is incredible. Great addition to the neighborhood

Yelp
Really superior choice. We booked from overseas and our expectations were exceeded. Some unique menu items. Wine recommendations were very appropriate. It would be a great "regular" dining venue if we lived closer. as their website says "High quality and great variety".

Yelp
Fairly underwhelming. Nothing on the entrée list peaked my interest so I ordered two appetizers... The scallops were undercooked and had a slight fishy taste. The goat cheese and fig salad was better but served luke-warm, which wilted the greens and gave the entire dish a strange taste. We opted to sit outside because the heat wave sweeping the UK and lack of AC at the restaurant made it very warm inside. The garden area out back is nice but we were swarmed by flies as soon as the food came. Someone also watered flowers above our heads while we were dining, so we got a bit damp. And, to round it all out, the restaurant's free wifi doesn't reach to the outdoor seating. Our server was very friendly! All in all, nothing awful about this place but nothing very special either.

Yelp
Really nice spot, small, but very good. I had mushroom risotto, it was awesome. Followed by a great seared trout in a lemon cream sauce. Awesome

Yelp
Elegant menu which crosses all palates nicely. Delicious and well priced wine, topped off with exceptional service. 10/10 recommend. Robert is a great waiter/server, ask for him!

Yelp
Very nice scallop as the starter. Bread was yummy. Service was awesome. Main dishes we went for duck leg, halibut fillet which tastes nice but nothing too surprising. Generally 4 star would be given Great place for chitchat and some white wine.

Yelp
A bit fancier than expected as some reviewers say it's good for a "casual meal" (AKA - There was a romantic, lovey dovey, all dressed up date on my left and high society couples whose mutual friends know the U.S. president on my right.) My husband and I ordered a couple bottles of cider, which were unique to the area while enjoying complimentary bread with an unusual yet tasty olive oil herb/tomato mixture. Ordered two apps - one was a goat cheese/walnut salad - large size but fairly normal, and the other a very smooth creamy pate of Mackeral that stole the show As this was our first meal in Cambridge, we were hungry and also ordered two entrees - duck confit for me and lamb for husband. Both were hearty portions that had the warm, comforting, stick-to-your-ribs feel. The duck had crispy skin and tons of meat. The red cabbage and mashed potato on the side helped to fill me up and were traditional European accompaniments. The lamb was very tender and had a butterbean ragout underneath along with mashed potato for extra heartiness.

Yelp
The newly refurbished bar/restaurant looks much brighter than the pub/wine bar that used to be here. The menu had a good mix of European classics and the fish I had looked and tasted amazing. I would definitely come back for another meal- or just for a glass of wine in the bar area. It was raining when I came, but I did notice a nice garden area out the back.

Yelp
Don't even bother!!! Nice little place at a good location but forget about service - they have ZERO willingness to accommodate !!

Yelp
Fantastic dinner with friends while we were visiting Cambridge. Lovely service and delicious food. Not big, so booking can be essential. As with any good restaurant in town, it can get full. Our food was delicious, the wine list is good and the company even better. We would certainly go back when we're there again.

Yelp
I was provided pristine service. I was fortunate enough to receive a table with no reservation. I received an exquisite suggestion for wine. Then, there was the swift service, food came like fast food, which I enjoyed. The washroom could be a bit more in shape. I felt it was always the customer first service. The taste of the food was palatable. There was also adequate proportions, gratis bread, and dipping sauce. The restaurant itself is very clean, organized, and possessed trained staff. Just when I thought they couldn't top it: the dessert.

Yelp
Food great quality and good variety. Accommodating hosts - in terms of dietary requirements. Hosts we're friendly. Location is good and the noise level is low with quiet music in the background which means you can actually talk. Only reasons for dropping one star are - the service was a little slow and we were disappointed that they didn't tell us about the set menu (2 or 3 courses) which is far cheaper than the regular menu, so our bill was quite expensive!

Yelp
The oak bistro on the corner of lensfield road Has just re-opened it was formerly a rather dingy winebar. I went there one saturday evening as i have walked passed a few times and it looked quite nice and inviting. It was really refreshing to go some where that felt so intimate and friendly there were just a few tables at the front and then a small passage way leads to the back room, it all flows very nicely and doesnt at all feel as small as it is. The decor is very neutral there is alao some local artwork on display which is nice. Very refreshing to not be in bog standard chain resturant or gastro pub. The range of dishes was good although the food was just a little above average my starter was very salty but the cod main course more than made up for this. Service was very friendly and relaxed, there was no hustle and bustle as there was no rush to fill our table as soon as we had finished. it was very nice. I would return again but would try and different starter.

Yelp
The Oak is such a versatile place - you will feel comfortable there if you are just after a casual meal, a coffee or a glass of wine, but you would be equally comfortable if you wanted a more formal event. White walls and local art mixed with exposed brickwork, a small dark wooden bar (with a couple of beers on tap), white linen and a hidden courtyard garden give the place a wonderful atmosphere. The restaurateur and his staff run a tight ship, but make everything look effortless. I have recommended The Oak to anyone who will listen, and they have all agreed that it has to be one of the best averagely priced bistros/restaurants in Cambridge. Their lunchtime menu (which is also available on Saturdays) is an absolute steal: 2 courses for £12 and 3 courses for £15.

Yelp
Possibly the best place to eat in Cambridge, certainly for steak which is excellent. Nice informal bistro style place, and the owner and staff were very friendly.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner and would definitely return. Walked in and sat down at 6 pm on a Thursday night, but if you are going later, you probably need a reservation. Wine list provided fairly good selection. I had the Chargrilled cajun swordfish with mango salsa and green beans/new potatoes. The fish was cooked perfectly and the cajun flavors and mango salsa created a very flavorful dish. We split two desserts - and these were absolutely delicious. The chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream is worth the 15 minute wait. This is similar to a "lava cake" in the US and the chocolate is amazing. The blackberry and apple crumble with custard was also fantastic, though if I had to choose one, I'm partial to chocolate. Finally, the service was very good.

Yelp
My Favourite restaurant in Cambridge. Food and service are always fantastic. Lovely and clean!
