Why You Should Visit Egypt This Year

"Oberoi Hotels & Resort's ship The Oberoi Philae was given a top-to-bottom refurb in 2016, including a rooftop pool and fewer, more spacious rooms, as well as a spa with views out to Medinet Habu, the resting place of Rameses II and one of the newer spots on the ship’s itinerary."

28 Places Our Travel Specialists Say You Should Go in 2019

"Travelers who are still interested in experiencing the Nile in the finest luxury should cruise on the beautifully refurbished Oberoi Philae. Originally a ship with more than 60 cabins, the newly redesigned Oberoi Philae has only 22 luxury cabins and suites. The result is elegant and modern—and provides an unmatched amount of public space. The itinerary is re-worked as well, with some clever additions such as Medinat Habu Temple on the West Bank and a motorized felucca excursion to the Nubian Museum in Aswan."

By far the best thing we could have done in our trip to Egypt. The service was fantastic, the staff always being very friendly and attentive. The rooms were spectacular, fully equipped with everything we could have needed and most importantly very clean. They would come into the room twice a day, in the evenings they would set the room to relax prepping slippers and mats and in the morning they would leave a newspaper with news in your own language and an itinerary for the next day. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration cruising the Nile. The food was excellent as well. Highly recommend

We recently had a magnificent couple days on the Philae. We had an unforgettable and amazing time. The rooms, food, service were world class. The team made an effort to get to know us as soon as possible to anticipate our needs as the week went on. Our Egyptologist, Tarek, was amazing. He did an excellent job of making the information accessible, interesting and entertaining for all of ur, ranging in age from 7 to 74. A few weeks later and the children are still talking about his stories! Beyond the service on board the cruiser was also perfectly prepared to keep everyone interested and engaged: small and well equipped gym; great pool deck; available games; available DVDs; wifi; various spaces to be in the sun or to get a break from the heat in air conditioning. The rooms are a great size, to be able to enjoy the scenery when sailing, in the privacy of your own space. We felt safe at all stages of our trip. We were grateful for the effort that the Philae team put into timing sailing and tours to ensure we were able to explore sites when they were less crowded - something small we didn’t anticipate in advance but made such a big difference, especially when travelling with children.

Fantastic 4 nights cruise from Luxor to Aswan on the Oberoi Philae. Everything about the experience was first class - the rooms, the food and in particular the staff who were very friendly and welcoming and couldn’t have done more to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. The boat is very spacious and well appointed and doesn’t actually feel like a boat at all when you are on it. Food varied each day and gave a good mix of european and Egyptian / Middle Eastern dishes. Our 11 and 13 year old kids gave the experience a double thumbs up.

My husband and I loved the cruise, we had a great guide walking us through everything. We stayed for 5 days, 4 nights. It was full of activities. The food was really good, it was a mix between American, Egyptian and a touch of European. I'm Egyptian and my husband is an American so naturally people come up to us to sell us things. I didn't expect people on the cruise to be pushy though.. there was a guy responsible for drinks which were a separate charge (not included) but they were so expensive that we didn't want them, but he still insisted as Egyptians do.. the massage guy was more persistent which was honestly after asking us everytime he saw us, it was fairly annoying when you're trying to relax. If you're in it for the sights, great trip but if you want to relax on the ship.. it's fairly difficult to do that.

Many of the cruise ships are fairly old, but are very well maintained. The rooms close to the back engine room can get noisy at night, but also acts as a white noise generator. Buffer style food on the ship is very good. They also pack breakfast boxes to go when we have early activities. Nile River is very scenic. It is a great way to travel. They also have dress up nights and the shop on the ship provides rental traditional Egyptian cloth at very reasonable price. Overall a great experience.

Went with another couple and we had an amazing experience. The staff became a part of our every day experience and we were sad to leave them. The level of customer service is up there with any luxury stay we have experienced. I would highly recommend this cruise for anyone looking for a luxury cruise experience and a great time. Our tour guide was spectacular and knowledgeable about every place we visited. This made every visit feel personal and super special. We loved this cruise!!

Room is close to engine, full of exhaust smoke, very loud engine noise continuously at all times and vibration, I could not sleep a minute during the 4 nights from hell stay. Airconditioning leaking water on my bed and on the floor. I slipped hurting my back as a result of the water on the floor of the room The room is not suitable for human at all, not even good for animals. No one care to fix the problem or change the room for me.

We were on the MS Miriam, the boats park next to each other so you walk through them all to get to yours which is odd. Staff were lovely on the boat. Food was great. Rooms were good and clean. WiFi was an issue, it only worked in one room on each floor- I'm assuming the one nearest the router. WiFi only allowed max 3/4 people per floor before it wouldn't work.
