The Old Brewer - Vasastan

We had a couple of nice meals here, prices are reasonable for Stockholm prices. Staff were generally helpful and friendly, waiting time for our meals was quite long

We absolutely love The Old Brewer and always make a point to have dinner there when we're in Stockholm! Highly, highly recommend the Beef Wellington and a pint (or two) of the Cask Ale.

I visited this pub as my first in my first visit to Stockholm. I asked them if they could make me a margarita even though it wasn't on their list, and they did. And I had fish and chips, big portion! They speak perfectly English, many customers speak English. They are very nice. About the prices, it depends on the Country u come from. For me Sweden is very expensive, therefore also this place is rather expensive, for my Country's standards. There were many customers, and the place itself is very nice.

Well my very first attempt at Beef Wellington, was a very enjoyable experience. A street seating and the ambiance provided by life on a side street was just right. I only wish I could also attempt their desserts.....older is wiser, so they say.

Food: we shared two small plates. One was the steak sandwich with Dijon and carmelized onions. The Dijon is pretty strong but the sweetness of the onions led to a balanced flavor. I found the bun a bit disappointing—what I would expect to eat in the U.S. but not in Europe. We also got the fried macaroni balls, which were tasty and had a nice presentation. The atmosphere was a bit underwhelming. It was a pretty plain bar with a small outside seating area (mostly shaded at lunchtime). Our server was very friendly and on the ball.

W really loved it. The fish and chips as well as the drinks were great. The waitress was very nice. They were playing the Liverpool match which was very nice. I highly recommend.

Review Update - I hadn't seen the response from The Old Brewer from my previous visit, but seeing the consistently good reviews, decided to give it another shot. I'm happy I did. I was surprised that they recognized me from my previous visit and was very impressed how they walked me through what had happened last time and their absolute commitment to being an amazing place to dine. Gary (forgive me for naming people) went out of his way to make sure my experience was great. Thank you! 1) Love their beers. Go there and try some out. I stuck with a Czech lager which was great but next time will try some of their guest taps. 2) The Beef Wellington was really flavorful and the perfect size meal. I also had the Beer Battered Sausage with HP Sauce which was a great starter and makes me want to go back and try the Brewer´s Signature Sausages next time. 3) The Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce is truly evil! :) So good. Every restaurant has a one-off, whether be a good or bad night, but its the places that consistently deliver a good experience and meal. The only way to do that is by always improving and The Old Brewer Public House is obviously committed to that. I look forward to going back again! Original review: Mixed feelings on the Old Brewer Public House. 1. Their hours show closing at 10:30 but when I arrived at 9:00 I was informed that only fish and chips were available. Now I wasn't too disappointed since I had fish and chips the last time and they were good. Bad choice 2. I was asked to close out my check at 9:45 at last call as they were closing at 10:00 p.m. Now, that might just be a matter of updating their hours but a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to trying a few beers. 3. The fish and chips we're okay. They had a thick batter which frankly is not to my taste and even peeling off a bit where the fish seemed a bit dry. The one thing I did like was the mashed peas, but otherwise it was a little mediocre which goes against what I've read in previous reviews (and my previous experience). 4. Service was quite transactional with a order now so we can close up kind of feeling. My recommendation would be try this place earlier. I was really into trying their bangers & mash, as I was told those were pretty good but frankly not sure I will come back.

Perfectly friendly and cozy little pub with outstanding dishes. The waitress was super helpful in our discussion of what to choose. We also enjoyed an Espresso Martini and Old Fashioned at the end of the meal that were very well made. The steak toast was a suggestion from the waitress and the flavors were perfect- would go back just for that. Everything was deliciously flavored and cooked perfect.
