Once each week my neighbour and I have a pub lunch walk. We have tried several outlets but the Old Crown at Uley is just perfect. I think we have concluded out searches elsewhere are unwarranted. Lovely staff, great food and superb beer. My favourite was the lamb with a bread I can't remember the name of with salad and a side order of chips. However, the super chef is now producing a range of fantastic homemade pies (to die for) with chips but I have needed a portion of veg. And, the Wye Valley Butty Bach real ale is just perfect. Thank you 😊

We were with friends and family for a Sunday supper. Between us we had beef, lamb and pork which were all fantastic - perfectly cooked, generous portions and delicious. They catered without any fuss for my gluten and dairy free requirement. Rosie who was serving us as well as running the bar was just amazing. Despite it being a really hot day she was nothing but smiling and helpful. Highly recommended for roasts 😁

Ideally-placed accommodation on the Cotswold Way that helps shave off several miles from the trail to Dursley. The rooms are just fine for tired walkers! More importantly, the hospitality here is WONDERFUL, and the food here is DELICIOUS! We had a wonderful stay and were baffled at some of the negative reviews below. Kate and Tom are working hard every single day trying to keep thousands of people happy, give them some grace and enjoy their amazing hospitality!!!

Full disclosure - we didn't actually stay. Although we did try!||||We booked online for end of September to stay for a wedding nearby. After checking my bank account I noticed that the £50 deposit had been taken as expected, but a day later another £50 had come out. I checked my confirmation email and it said £50 deposit with £50 left to pay and so I emailed the pub. After a few days with no response I phoned and left a message.||||Kate responded after that, saying the T's & C's state that they will take 100% upfront. Checking the T's & C's, I saw that she was correct. But I double checked the booking form and it definitely said 50% up front. Weird that this is hidden in the T's & C's and not stated upfront.||||I said that was fine, as I now had it in writing that we'd paid in full. But I did suggest they may want to amend their booking forms and confirmation email to prevent such queries happening in the future. To which she replied (and I quote) 'Having reviewed your reservation with my business partner I don’t think we are the right place or product for you, so we have cancelled your booking.' What?! Because I questioned being double charged? This makes me think they were always going to try to scam us for the additional £50. ||||I had checked the reviews, but didn't realise they have two sites here on Tripadvisor (the other is at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1233687-d3954642-Reviews-The_Old_Crown_Inn-Uley_Dursley_Stroud_District_Cotswolds_England.html) and doesn't sound too bad. If I'd read the reviews on this page I'd never have booked. Such an odd way to do business. I think we dodged a bullet.

Kate is keeping the family pub going in difficult times and is doing a great job. A good number of people at the bar when we arrived but we were instantly spotted as the people who had booked the rooms. The welcome was wonderful and she has to be one of the most helpful people I have met. Our needs were simple, but nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The showers were very good: water was hot and water pressure very good. Breakfasts could be as substantial as you want but we just wanted a light breakfast much to Kate's disbelief. Admin seems to get done on a Monday, so don't expect an instant email or telphone response, but don't let that put you off. It is more than made up by the welcome you will receive. Dog friendly and ask about the Gorilla inthe village 100 years ago

Lovely old country pub, serves we'll-conditioned ale. We stayed for the night, the room was somewhat basic, but clean with a powerful shower and a comfy bed. Owner Kate and the barman, who also cooks a fabulous breakfast, were charming and very welcoming.

My Wife and I were staying at a local AirBNB just up the road (The Piggery, also excellent !) and decided to have our evening meal at the pub. Both our meals were exceptional but what made it so memorable was the super friendly staff. We were made to feel so welcome it was amazing. Next time we are in the area a meal at the Old Crown is definitely on the itinerary !!

We stayed one night as we were hiking the Cotswolds Way. It was awful! The shower was really mouldy, with a previous guest's razor still in the shower and the shower unit was so grimy I really didn't want to use it. The bed sheet was directly on the mattress as were the pillow cases. The room was just grim. It was like staying in uni halls in the 70s. |Dinner was a disaster- we waited over an hour for our food and when it arrived there were two hairs in my food. When I sent it back it was returned minus the hairs! Albeit the waiter was very apologetic.|Neither owner came to apologise but we were not charged for our meal (which i did not eat!). I happened to pass the kitchen when the door was open and it looked pretty disgusting inside. There was food debris all over the floor and it did not look clean.|Our room overlooked the outdoor tables and on waking we saw that all the previous nights plates and glasses were still piled on the tables! I'm sure the local wildlife enjoyed licking the plates!!|Overall I would suggest staying else where if at all possible.

Yelp
We booked a table for a Sunday lunch and chose the pub as they accepted dogs. Had a lovely walk, arrived a bit early but were happy to have a drink and wait. Ordered our food and waited an hour for our food to come out, ordered the mixed roast at £18 as we wanted all the trimmings, when it came out it looked like scraps of leftovers! Cold Yorkshire pudding, cold stuffing, no crackling, lukewarm potatoes, not even complete meats, waited 10 mins for the veg which looked nowhere near enough for 1 person let alone 2! We asked the lad who served us to tell what meat we had as they all looked the same ....scraps, he said he had no idea. Asked a lady if she was the manager, her response, depends who's asking. Explained the issue, she was uninterested, just said they were very busy today but just read their reviews as they are really good! So leaving this one for you to decide! Would not go back ever again! Total shambles! And no way of getting a Sunday roast this late in the day so thank you very much!

Yelp
My first English pub experience was at the Old Crown Inn, and it did not disappoint! Everything from the atmosphere, the food, and the price fit my perfect fantasy of a local English pub experience. A few elderly chaps in the corner, a couple with their little dog next to their table, and lots of local flair! After a hike through the countryside, my sister-in-law and I stopped here for some post-hiking sustenance around lunch. This 17th century rustic, cottage-style lodge serves ale, hard cider, and some down-home English country soul food! I shared a bacon and brie sandwich, added a little ketchup, and OMG! My taste buds were very merry, indeed. Top it all off with a pint of dry English cider. This pub has a gorgeous authenticity about it, with its cracked stone walls and cozy "wood and wine" color theme. It's full of some serious character! Seating is limited, so you might want to call ahead to check if they are busy. And their website lets you know what local ales are currently being offered on tap. This is a real hidden gem, Dursley! Thanks for making this silly American girl very happy.

Yelp
A true British pub, something to be really proud of!! The Old Crown is exactly what a good traditional pub should be.. they serve fantastic local ales from the Uley brewery less than a mile down the road and they occasionally have guest ales on tap... my mouth is watering thinking about it! The atmosphere is exactly what you expect from a village pub, the pub staff and the customers are friendly and welcoming, there's a real sense of community here but if you walk in as an outsider, you become part of it by the time you finish your first pint. Good but simple food is served at lunch and in the evening, don't expect fancy gastro-pub food, this place is keeping it real, still serving up proper pub grub. Gotta love it!

Yelp
Good beer but the service couldn't have been less friendly I've been twice over the past two months and the reception was the he same. I don't think I'll go again.
