The Old Dog

Excellent, friendly. We went on a busy lunch time but servers and food prep time were all good. Lots of dogs in the pub, which you’d expect (!) and our dog didn’t have loads of room to tuck into, but space was made and just a really present atmosphere all round. Food was good, not sensational, but solid. Decent range of beers. Loads of car parking and well located, as you’d expect, for some nice country walks!

We had the pleasure of enjoying a fantastic Sunday lunch here last week. Very friendly and the food and the presentation of the food were superb. Staff very friendly and helpful. Do book first as it seemed full by the time we left, which isn't surprising given the quality of the food. Highly recommended.

Friendly and good service, but my goodness was the portion size and food here disappointing. Paid £19 for Fish & Chips which was barely the size of a kids meal and I was dumbfounded when it arrived on the table. The piece of fish was not even as long as my hand and was mostly comprised of greasy, unpleasant tasting batter, and I received a grand total of 9 chips which when tipped out of the basket onto the plate looked rather expensive for what you got. The waitress serving me was lovely and the pub itself was nice inside, but unfortunately I felt short changed and cannot recommend.

Rural pub. Food waa good..except the custard (very watery!) Waitress was lovely but the food did not come out in a timely fashion. People were finishing while others had still not got theirs yet. A non vegan dish was also given to a vegan and no apology made. Pub itself was lovely but I would not have said no to a cushion. Overall, nice but I won't be making the journey there again.

The food was absolutely amazing. From the Japanese milk bread, to what was probably the best burger I've ever had (an amazing pretzel type bun!). Very friendly, great for families and overall an amazing find.

Such a shame. It’s was a walkers pub it’s in a main tourist area and they seem to want to make it a dining destination The clueless barman said there were no tables then we assume the manager stepped in when we wanted food and table 10 was free We wanted to order 4 portions of pork pie starter off the starter menu and side orders of chips. The manager said he couldn’t serve us chips as we weren’t ordering mains. They only had 2 portions of pork pies left. It was a Saturday lunchtime! We already had drinks so shared the very average pork pies and walked on They also told the table next to us no more food at around 1:30 in the afternoon We are locals but our guests were astonished by the lack of commercial hospitality

Stopped for a meal after a walk up Thorpe Cloud. A very warm welcome and great hospitality. The food was excellent, we had the roasts and they tweaked the menu to satisfy our 10 year old desire to have roast chicken (which wasn’t on the menu today). Would definitely return and recommend

Wanted to try here for a long time. On Sunday myself and my husband were out walking when the snow hit. Knowing it was a Sunday and not booking a table we decided to just go in and get a warm drink. Shocking service. We were told because we hadn’t booked a table that we couldn’t get a hot drink. A real shame as it looked lovely inside but we will never bother booking a table for food. The worst service possible at a time where pubs are asking for support!

Visited this recently refurbished pub. It's a great stop for a family wanting American style food with burgers and sandwiches filling most of the menu. For an English burger we found it to be very good. We also liked the free refills with ice on the soda and the family friendly seating - both indoor and out. The pub was very dog friendly as well as cyclist friendly - as we found many clean dogs and dirty cyclists mixed in among the locals and families on holiday.
