The Old House Hostel

We had a really good time at the Old House. The staff are really nice and the shared spaces, bathrooms, kitchen, patios are really good and sometimes there is tasty local food made by a member of the staff. The place is also very clean and cleaned very thouroughly every day. The jam sessions on Wed and Fri are a plus. You really get to socialise with other guests and locals and the music was really good the times we were there. They also stop at a reasonable hour. We also did the ATM-tour, which was 120 USD and we were therefore hesitant. However, we had the best guide on our whole Central America trip. He was so knowledgable and equally fun and it was an unforgettable experience. We stayed in two different rooms, 8-bed dorm and 4-bed dorm. I have to say that the 8-bed dorm is a real challenge. It needs a full make over: Beds are not solid and should be screwed into the walls, matresses and pillows are quite worn, windows don't close any more (there was a huge construction noise), the door is very loud. The 4-bed dorm had no such problems and everything was really okay here and we slept very well. All in all a very good experience.

Hostel was in a great location near the San Ignacio farmers market and the Green Iguana Conservation Project. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Kitchen was fully equipped and had all the basic necessities. I had a private room with shared bathrooms and it came with a fan. I just wished the room had AC as it gets very hot. Otherwise I really enjoyed my stay. I also loved the cat and dog that lived there.

We stayed several months ago and I forgot to leave a review then. Really an amazing place! The staff was super-friendly. The rooms were good. The showers were great. The vibe was really friendly. We originally planned to stay a night here and a couple of nights nearby, but this place was so great (and so preferable to the other option) that we added another night here. As a bonus, it is close to the center of town, which is great.

Lovely & helpful staff and nice bed with a comfy mattress in the private room. We booked the ATM tour with the hostel and it cost $120 (USD), private shuttle and a great tour guide who was local and had worked on many of the archeological projects so I would definitely recommend booking through the hostel. The room we booked was advertised as a private room with an en-suite but unfortunately there was no en suite…. We had a shared bathroom which was clean but times where we needed to shower and it was occupied by another guest. We also stayed on a Wednesday night and the music from downstairs bar was extremely loud, I felt like the band was in the room with me. Not ideal if you want an early night or to relax.

Good place, near the town centre. ATM very close by. The owner is a great guy and really friendly. The hostel is strange in that the new bathrooms/showers/toilets are like a 5* hotel, but the rooms are the most basic hostel dorms. The rooms were hot overnight (stayed late July) even with a personal fan, and the ladders up to the beds aren’t super sturdy. No curtains on the bunks either. Really enjoyed my stay here but rooms could do with an upgrade!

The Old House is the most welcoming and warm hostel I have ever stayed at. The rooms are clean, plenty of bathrooms, the road next to it is not very loud, they offer cheap tours and experiences, and the staff give advice as if they were family. Aldo, the owner, is always willing to help you in any matter. As for things to donate to the hostel, you can have movie nights on the terrace, as they have a computer and a projector available. There is also a bar downstairs that opens on Wednesdays and Fridays; they have live music, but don’t worry about noise, they close shop at 11pm sharp.I would definitely recommend Old House to anyone visiting San Ignacio, or even Belize, as the atmosphere there is worth experiencing. I had a fantastic stay at The Old House! The rooms and common areas were cleaned thoroughly every day, which made for a comfortable experience. I really enjoyed the live music downstairs – it added a great vibe to the place. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a memorable stay!

This place is absolutely fantastic! They make you feel so at home there, best experience I've had with a hostel. Aldo the proprietor is one of the most caring and kind individuals I've ever met, can't say enough good things about this place. They even have hot water for showers, this place really appreciates it's guests! Be sure to book in advance as dorm rooms often fill up quick as it's the most desirable hostel to stay at in San Ignacio. Had such a great time here thank you Old House Hostel!
