The Old Pearler - Atlas Obscura

"The Old Pearler restaurant is a striking example of architectural innovation. The entire building is constructed from a unique material: coquina. This material is formed from millions of tiny mollusks, specifically Cardiid cockles, also known as Hamelin Cockle Shells (fragum erugatum), which have accumulated over an estimated 4,000 years in the waters at Hamelin Pool and L'Haridon Bight. These shells have naturally cemented together to create coquina, a soft rock used in the construction of various Denham buildings, including The Old Pearler, which was erected in 1974. Visitors to The Old Pearler are greeted by an interior adorned with these natural shells. The shells not only contribute to the restaurant's aesthetic appeal but also underscore its connection to the region's rich marine environment.  The Old Pearler offers a dining experience that celebrates the flavors of Shark Bay. The menu prominently features fresh seafood, including specialties sourced from the waters surrounding Denham. Diners can enjoy dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The Old Pearler is a unique and distinctive restaurant along Western Australia's Coral Coast, made special due to the shells which give it architectural and ecological significance." - Atlas Obscura

Absolutely loved our visit to The Old Pearler! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with that perfect “coastal” vibe that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. The seafood was incredibly fresh and cooked beautifully, and everything we ordered came out quickly and presented really well. My mum loves everything about the restaurant including the history😊 The owner of the restaurant is super friendly and we'll definitely come over again! Thank you so much and happy New Year 🥳 Sabrina and family

Finally a restaurant that lives up to the reviews!! We went for dinner last night with our toddler and the service was amazing, the atmosphere great, such a beautiful building!! The food…. DELICIOUS 😋!! We started with the seafood chowder and that was one of the best I’ve had. Our toddler got the chicken and chips off the kids meal, he normally won’t eat anything that’s not a nugget but he enjoyed his pan fried chicken. For mains hubby got the steak and mushrooms and cooked to perfection tender and delicious. I got the lobster 🦞 mornay was also delicious, bit much for me after the chowder so hubby smashed back what I couldn’t 😂 if your visiting the area u need come for dinner!! Make sure u book in as it’s a small limited space restaurant.

A truly wonderful and very personal dining experience. This is a very small and intimate restaurant with limited seating, so bookings are definitely required. It’s run by just two people, and it’s honestly incredible how beautifully they manage this lovely little place together. The atmosphere is private, cosy, and feels incredibly personal - you really feel like a guest rather than just a customer. The food was outstanding. There is excellent seafood, beautifully prepared meat dishes, and also a vegetarian option. We enjoyed a full three-course meal - entrée, main, and dessert - and every dish was absolutely delicious. The quality of the food is exceptional and clearly prepared with great care and passion. It’s a BYO restaurant, which made the evening even more relaxed. We brought our own drinks and spent several wonderful hours there, enjoying the food, the ambience, and the whole experience. As it was the off-season, we were even allowed to bring our dog inside, which was incredibly special for us. He quietly lay under the table the entire evening, and we truly appreciated that this was possible - especially as this is very uncommon in Australia. At the end of the evening, we also had the pleasure of meeting the chef, who is unbelievably kind and welcoming. Together with the service manager, they create such a warm, heartfelt, and genuinely lovely experience. It truly felt like a very personal and caring evening, with amazing food and a beautiful atmosphere on top. Thank you so much for this wonderful night. Highly recommended - please go there, it’s something really special. Lovely greetings from Philipp, Nicole and Charlie

Quaint little restaurant with AMAZING food!! The seafood chowder had to be the best I have ever had! The seafood in it was so succulent unlike most chowders where the seafood is rubbery and cooked to death. The crayfish mornay was also cooked to perfection. Our server was excellent … and so personable as she entertained us with the history of the restaurant. This is THE restaurant to check out if you’re in Denham!

Nice restaurant with friendly staff. Meal was overall good, though the tiramisu was not even close to the original Italian one. Recommended for romantic dinners and even for smaller events, gatherings.

We had chilli prawns, expected a nice tomato sauce with garlic and chilli but got a chilli type mayo that felt like it came out of a carton and the prawns were overcooked. Garlic bread which was lovely but they'd forgot to put the garlic on. Oysters were delicious. We both had the catch of the day cod which instead of being lovely and translucent and falling apart it was something you could chew. Service was fabulous and the restaurant is a beautiful place. We actually had a great time just shame about the food. Good luck booking if you're not from aus, no email address, no WhatsApp, basically no way of contacting if you only have data even though it specifically asks for you to book on the front door.

What a great little gem of a place!!, Aleisha was very welcoming and attentive. We had the catch of the day which was the Rankin Cod and it was the best fish we’ve eaten for a long time. Would definitely recommend this place, so good we went two nights in a row, 10/10
