The Old Quay House, Fowey, Cornwall, southwest England - Explore & Book

"With its beautiful views across Fowey’s famous estuary, relaxation is inevitable at The Old Quay House. We spent a lazy afternoon tucking into cream teas on the waterfront terrace, before wandering out to bask in sunshine on the town's little beach. Returning to our room, we opened the French doors and napped to the sound of waves and fishing boats chugging slowly past. Perfectly placed among the bustle yet very quiet, this sophisticated hotel was once a refuge for sailors. Nowadays it's the ideal escape for walkers and couples in need of some fresh sea air. Step out of the front door to find narrow streets packed with boutiques, antique sellers and the obligatory pasty shops, or head across the bay to spectacular coastal paths and the sleepy town of Polruan. The on-site restaurant is deservedly popular with guests and locals alike, and breakfast is plentiful. There are lots of unexpected extras to enjoy, too, including little tubs of popcorn with your drinks, rain macs to borrow in the wardrobes, and an afternoon ‘treat cupboard’ brimming with cakes and sweets. Highs An unbeatable location, with watery views from most of the 11 light and airy roomsWe loved just sitting on the terrace with a drink, watching boats going about their businessDelicious food, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and local meatIncredibly kind and helpful staffA calming, tranquil ambiance (no overnight guests under 12 are allowed) Lows It’s fairly pricey, but great views don’t come cheapThe nearest parking is 800 yards away, though you can drop bags at the doorClassic Rooms face the street and can be noisy, and seagull calls are a nuisance in all rooms in summer (earplugs are provided)" - Emily Preece

The Old Quay House (Fowey, Cornwall) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For such an intimate hotel — it’s small, with just eleven rooms, and family-owned — Old Quay House is a remarkably well-polished place. The owners, it turns out, are no strangers to the hotel business, so service is sharp and the interiors are sophisticated in their confident restraint." - Tablet Hotels

On arrival in December, our room was extremely cold. A kind member of staff switched on an electric radiator for us, but even after a couple of hours the room was still very cold. Unfortunately, the bathroom was not clean, with visible grime and pubic hairs. The coffee machine did not work and was also visibly unclean. We paid £150 for the night, which felt far too expensive for the standard of the room we were given. We stayed in a beautiful hotel the following evening for the same price, which highlighted the poor value of this stay.

Overall not an awful dining experience. Everything was cooked fine however the food, atmosphere and decoration is more fitting to a certain older clientele, we’re only in our late 20’s but felt very out of place and uncomfortable. My partners burger was fine, cooked well just really lacking in flavour. My chilli was again fine but oily, missing the sour cream and for £18.95 you’d expect a bigger portion and more than 3 tortilla chips. We were seated, finished eating and had paid the bill within 45mins.

Went there for a Sunday Carvery. Food was nice although they served you your vegetables which were portion controlled - a bit like being served a school dinner with portions that would suit a child. Expensive considering the portion!!

Had a wonderful dinner at the Old Quay House at the end of our annual Cornish holiday! Great service, very friendly and welcoming and the food just well-cooked and plentiful! We’ll definitely book again next time we’re in the area. A little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow :)

Beautiful location, can't fault it. But we visited for a Sunday carvery. We ordered a small adults priced at 15.25. We were served our meat and Yorkshire pudding. We were also served the vegetables too which a young lad was serving them. I think he needs a lesson on portion size. Because he only gave us literally half a spoonful of peas and carrots and cauliflower cheese. We understand the meat being served to us but vegetables are not expensive, we would have at least expected a spoonful of each. This seems very stingy and tight. Sorry to moan about this but everyone expects value for money.

One of the best Sunday Roasts I have had. Staff were super and a lovely setting. Really enjoyable.

Amazing room with gorgeous views, the old quay house is a friendly welcoming place to stay with great attention to detail in the property to make it a great experience for their guests. Food was delicious, good options on drinks, nothing was too much trouble. The old quay house also offered privacy if needed and a central location to visit other Cornish attractions, close to St Ives, Carbis bay and Lands end. Couldn’t find any faults with our trip. Excellent views across the estuary especially at high tide with the option to view the local wildlife. We were sad to have to return home and will visit again.

We visited early evening. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and in a delightful spot. I had buttermilk chicken burger which was delicious. My husband had Chicken Tikka and rice. He said it was the nicest Chicken Tikka he'd ever had. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
The ground floor dining area looks nice and classy, cosy with low lighting. Ah, okay, we thought. But then despite there being plenty of open tables, and nearing closing time, we were inexplicably seated upstairs, and I honestly had a hard time believing they actually saw this as a legit place to feed people. Though it wasn't dirty (after all, they are getting two stars instead of one), it had bright fluorescent lighting, plain white walls, and gave a cafeteria feel. Not pleasant. We ordered at the bar and waited nearly an hour for the food (they warned us of this, but I was still confused as there weren't many people there). The food could have made up for it, but it didn't. My vegetarian dish automatically came with a terrible iceberg salad that I could only make myself eat about two bites of, and the small goat cheese pastry was really boring (even though I adore goat cheese). I was still hungry after that so I ordered their Easter special ice cream dessert. The only pleasant thing about the whole meal was the cute little chick that came on top of the ice cream. I adore ice cream, but it was really mediocre and came with no toppings except canned whipped cream... just plain chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and a wafer. Not what I expected from a special Easter "sundae"! Oy. This was by far our least favourite meal in Cornwall.

Yelp
I'm not sure where the quay is (you would have thought there would be one nearby). The quay house though is a friendly pub with 1 inoffensive TV. The food looked good but me here for beer. Tribute and doom bar were on, Betty was on her break.

Yelp
I wasn't overly impressed with this bar for food. Upon entering the bar downstairs it looked quite nice but we were seated upstairs which was a bland room which looked like a room above a garage with an odd shade of lighting. It did not have a good atmosphere upstairs. Unsure as to why we were seated upstairs because there seemed to be free tables downstairs. Had to order food at the bar. Was a very long wait on food being served. When the food did arrive it was ok, not great but not horrible. I had ordered sirloin steak and it was cooked as ordered, it is what you would expect from a bar that wasn't a specialist steak restaurant. It was reasonably priced. But I would have no desire to go back and wouldn't recommend it.

Yelp
Had a lovely meal food pipping hot and lots of it as well staff nice and very welcoming back ground music was in the back ground as well so you can talk and not worry about the music grounding you out 10/10 form me will eat there again as well and the prices are good as well

Yelp
We stayed here within one of their bed and breakfast lodges and it was absolutely amazing. Fantastic view, well appointed room and scrumptious breakfast. We also decided to dine in the pub for dinner and it was equally as good. The steak and ale pie was lovely and my wife said the fish and chips was very nice. Very friendly, helpful staff, couldn't ask for any better.
