The Old Roman Bath House

I can't believe the bad reviews I've been reading. This place is great. I've never had a problem getting them on the phone. The staff is friendly and professional. The soak in the bath is to die for. And the price is great. The first person pays one price and subsequent soakers pay less. They even give a senior discount. Maybe there are more problems during the high summer season, but I've never experienced any.

Absolutely love it here! Me and my boyfriend have gone twice. Staff is always friendly and the baths are clean. Always a wonderful experience!

The roman bath is very relaxing. My skin and hair felt amazing after. The staff was helpful and friendly while we were there. But...good luck getting an appointment. My husband and I called and left voice messages about 8 times over 2 weeks before they finally called us back 2 days before our planned visit. We wanted massages in addition to a bath but there is a seperate number you have to call? and the people at that number never returned our calls at all. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business.

Wow!! Such an amazing experience! My husband and I had a short trip to explore around Berkeley springs for his birthday. We had heard of the Roman bath house but had no concrete plans of going until an employee of a nearby shop highly suggested it. Man what a wonderful experience!! Nathan at the front desk was nothing short of fantastic. He explained everything to us and got us right in! The bath itself is in a private room so clothing is optional. The water is from the spring and they heat it up. Ours was 105 degrees and felt amazing. There was a window we could crack (from the top so no one could see us). You could go in for a half hour or full hour but they said they recommend half hour for 1st timers and I’m glad they pointed us in that direction. There is a water station inside your room so you’re able to stay hydrated. This was a very unwinding and relaxing experience! Plus right outside is a cute little park and area to dip your feet and legs into the outdoor spring.

I’ve been visiting this bathhouse on and off for several months, usually on Sundays and Thursdays. Overall, I’d describe the experience as hit or miss — sometimes relaxing, sometimes frustrating. The facilities themselves could use attention. The pumps and bath temperatures are inconsistent, and the bathroom situation has been problematic for quite a while. For months now, there’s been only one working restroom due to a design flaw connecting the boiler room and women’s bathroom. At one point earlier this year, a temporary fix involved a pipe running through the only wheelchair-accessible bathroom, which really limited access for everyone. It’s not uncommon to see a line for the unisex restroom. The staff are generally friendly, but it seems like there’s a high turnover rate — I’ve met many different employees across my visits. On weekends they’re often busy and less able to chat, especially when appointments run behind. Thursdays tend to be calmer, but sometimes only one person is on duty doing everything: check-ins, cleaning, phone calls, and more. It’s clear they’re doing their best under challenging circumstances, but having such limited staffing definitely impacts cleanliness, communication, and timeliness. Another issue is maintenance and communication. I was told there’s only one maintenance worker for both bathhouses, which may explain why certain problems linger. Booking can also be confusing — there’s no online system, and the website’s contact info is unclear. Reaching the right number can take several tries. Despite all this, I still visit occasionally because when everything is working, it’s a pleasant and affordable experience. I’d just recommend planning ahead, being patient, and maybe visiting on a weekday when it’s quieter.

I read all the reviews about calling for a reservation (mind you, the morning of my visit) and so decided to take a chance (on a Monday before Thanksgiving) as a walk-in. It wasn't busy at all so I made a reservation for a few hours later. I figured we'd walk around in the cold and complete our visit with a warm soak. They had the tub filled for the 3 of us (including my husband and 12 yo daughter). We were given a brief explanation of adding cold water, opening windows and drinking water, plus he said to make sure we got our hair wet and that it conditions your hair. My favorite part about the whole experience is that we had 30 minutes of our daughter's attention without the distraction of technology!

Haven't been yet but just booked everything and I can't speak highly enough of the customer service I received. Rose was very thoughtful and informative in helping me book a day trip to Berkeley Springs. She went above and beyond, even recommending camping and dining options. Very much looking forward to my visit.

What a great and unique experience! We opted for the 30 minute session, which I think was the perfect amount of time. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and informative. We left feeling very relaxed and slept great that evening after soaking in the minerals!

One of the treasures we found in Berkeley Springs West Virginia is the State Park Bath House. Amazing amazing amazing!! This piece of history in the center of town is an old school style bathhouse where you soak in heated natural mineral spring water in a private room that you rent for a 30 or 60 minute at session. We did a 30 minute soak and got to feel the way a chicken must feel when dropped into a hot pot. There are valves to add as much cold water as you like! The tubs are heated to 110 or so and you slowly submerge yourself. The minerals in the water soak into your muscles and I cannot describe how relaxed I felt. A full body high that lasted hours. I added cold water constantly towards the end of the time to give me that cool plunge feeling. The folks who run the bathhouse work for the great state of West Virginia. They were friendly and knowledgeable and the rooms are full cleaned after every use. The rooms rent out quickly so make sure you make reservations ahead of time! It's an experience you will not forget. You can also pair your soak with a massage afterwards to make that experience complete. If you think you are relaxed just being in BSWV pack it down with a soak where George Washington first soaked!

This was a last minute decision after arriving to the park and the weather changed to rain and the pool was closed. We still wanted to have an experience at the park so decided to check in at the bathhouse. They had a spot available about an hour later. I enjoyed the fact that we could make it a family experience that kids and adults were welcome to share the room. However the pricing seemed high for the experience especially for the kids. You pay one price for an individual and more than twice that for our family even though the room was the same size. The water was over 100 degrees but enjoyable. You don't need more than 30 minutes or you start to feel overheated. They provide you with towels and water while in the bath. It's a unique experience that is worth the try once.

This place is awesome! We walked around to check out the park and springs but we also visited some of the bath houses and checked out the cool hotel which we thought about staying at prior to booking another place not that far away. I know for sure the next time we come to this area we are staying at The Country Inn Of Berkeley Springs due to it's amazing vibes, proximity to the bath houses and springs, walking distance to one of my favorite breweries, cool shops, and restaurants. We did not expect this area to have so many cool things to do and see, so the plans we had already made for that day didn't allow for us to get to enjoy much of it because if we would have known we would have taken full advantage of the spas and area in general. We did speak to two of the ladies working at the spas and they explained to us about the services they offer so the next time we are in town we will definitely be getting pampered. The baths were booked for the weekend we traveled there, but we put our names on the waitlist and luckily they called! It was a very fun experience. They were accommodating with our 9 month old and lowered the temperature in the baths to make it a comfortable experience for all of us.

We really enjoyed our trip here! We scheduled a hot stone couples massage. You get 15 or so minutes in the baths before your service, then we had the massage. They also offer you a shower after your massage. You have a bath attendant who helps coordinate your services while you're there. The baths are very hot, but there is a lever you can pull to get cold water infused into the bath as needed. The massage itself was decent, not amazing but pretty relaxing. The massage areas are just separated by curtains, so you can hear other people starting and ending their massage appointments at the same time, which was kinda funny. It's located in the park, which is nice and relaxing to walk around. The staff was friendly, but it was a little slow to check out. They also have a cute small gift shop where we bought some goodies. Overall, I'd definitely recommend!

This was our second visit to the baths - with the temps in the 90s, we must have been crazy to want to soak in 100 plus degree water ;) ...but we loved it the first time so in we went! We book the 30-minute baths as it seems to be just the right amount of time - time to heat up those aching muscles without getting too hot;) The individual private baths are nice & clean - almost with a steampunk vibe with the pipes & levers - the levers allowing you to add cold water to your liking. The staff both times have been very helpful - oh and there's plenty cool water to drink during your soak. Felt great afterwards - a relaxing experience!

you can't get a better value in spas than this place. I've been several times over the years, and especially post renovation, it's become both a trip back in time and a really nice modern relaxing spa atmosphere. Great for a very affordable couples retreat, especially around Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day weekend

I return every few months...the Roman baths are clean and the perfect temp, the staff is friendly and professional, and the massages are excellent! They offer a variety of services and I feel well cared for with respect for privacy.

So relaxing. We did 30 minutes in the Roman bath (perfect amount of time IMHO) and really enjoyed ourselves. Glad we booked ahead of time because there was a long cancellation waitlist. Best thing to do when you're in town!

We had a great experience at the roman bath house. We went two days in a row and I gotta say the service was great, every worker was very friendly and helpful with us and the mineral baths were very relaxing. This is definitely a place you must go if you're thinking on visiting Berkeley Springs.

My wife and I spent a nice weekend away in Berkley Springs WV. A very quiet, neat, and small town, but well worth the trip down from Ohio. First time visiting the area and definitely want to make a return trip. As for the State Park, it is very, very small park and mot much else to do besides the Roman bathhouses, a filling station for Spring water and a small museum about the town. I bet during the summer when the pool is open and the weather is hot, the springs are neat to soak in as they are always at 74 degrees. The springs were around 1748 and you can also see a replica of George Washington's bathtub. It is basically a hole in the ground but also cool for nostalgia and imagination of what it was like. As for the review of the bathhouses, they have a "newer" modern bathhouse that has a legit spa and parlor and we did not get a chance to check any of the amenities out. We did book the old Roman Bathhouse. At first glance when you walk in, it is obviously completely foggy and hot. We signed up for a 30 minute session. I believe it was $30 or so a person but then $22 for any additional person. My wife and I weren't sure what to expect so I asked a few questions to people waiting along side us. Yes, you are supposed to go nude in the tubs, but can also go in a suit if you are with friends. My wife and I entered the room and got in the water. It is like 100 degrees and the water feels so good on any achy bones you may have. They do supply water and cups as you will need it and there is a faucet that you can add cold water if you want to. It does get super hot and foggy in there and to be honest 30 minutes is almost too long. We left with a few minutes to spare. It was an awesome experience and has a great story of what the bathhouses do medically and how they were created etc. The history alone is neat to soak it all in. I will most definitely make a return trip. The attached museum is small but it is free and cool to explore and learn about the area. Upon your exit for $1 or $2 you can buy a liter jug and fill it up with the natural spring water.

I went nearly ten years ago and it was life changing for my neck stiffness! After this I bought an American made soft hot tub. The staff is calm and resectfull they even give you stainless steel pitchers of cool Berley springs water...so if you are sulpher sensitive or allergic do not drink! That goes for outdoor spout to bring water home. Want to go before end of fall. It makes to feel indulgent but it is health choice Imfound the temperature in and out of water amazing. It is an East Coast treasure! It should be on everyone's bucket list I think for Shure. bring your bathing suit as three is no lock on door and it cost extra to have own pool/ soak room Inthink they call it a soak room! The entire experience is very dignified and please remember this is a state park and people are star employees so reminder for best language and behavior. drive home to mMaryland was pleasant after soak as it warmed bones and started to rain.mI remember my skin was so very soft after this soak for all next day. Recommend an family or couples to reconnect with inner peace. It was a very happy experience and parkmis right next to raid with not a Hugh sign...IPSO realize when you wake into small parkk baths as they are called are tongue lrigt nearly inbbak of public pool. I was a bit confused and thought the hotel to left was were soak was but it is too right.nit in at inn with restaurant to left that has another guest of hotel spa ,not to be confused!! it is a calm space and used soft tlones while conversing in mini pool room ! Reservations are sajusted.

if I could give the main bathhouse in berkley springs -forty five stars I would. Imagine you're my sister. You go to get a deep tissue massage with your boyfriend for your anniversary. You get a masseuse named Terra. Right before your massage you start to take off your robe and she says to wait so she can leave the room. Sure, of course! You do. During the massage, you lift your arm to move a piece of your hair. Apparently you're supposed to warn your masseuse or ask for their holy permission or something because if you don't, and a NIPPLE crosses their line of vision, they will cut your massage short, say nothing to you, accuse you of sexual assault and TRAUMATIZING THEM, and then STILL try to charge you for a full massage with no conversation at all. She found this out when her boyfriend tried to ask why her massage had been cut short. To get a refund from this place, you have to contact the state park. So now she's sobbing in her car, accused of preying on this masseuse who was forced to witness a nip slip on a human body (presumably she's seen a nipple before, as a masseuse), and trying to get a refund because of this experience. I imagine this person will still be employed here tomorrow so I HIGHLY recommend getting a massage LITERALLY anywhere else. What a horrific experience for a customer who went somewhere specifically to relax with the help of a professionally trained body worker. I hope this person gets help and stays far away from service-based professions in the future.

First, the history alone is fascinating. We were here the week of Thanksgiving and waited a little too late to get appointments but as luck would have it, my son and I got the last facial (me) and last massage of the day. It started with 15 minutes in the Roman Bath. My son has Ankylosing Spondylitis and I have metastatic breast cancer that spread to my bones. The 15 minutes was awesome. I really felt a difference in my joints The staff was outstanding. Nate helped us figure out the process and went out of his way to help us. We were the last appointments of the day but he gave 9:00 am energy. Both our treatments were terrific and they gave us both a complimentary paraffin wax dips on our hands. It was the perfect end to our Thanksgiving trip.

What a cool place! This park is a mineral springs and George Washington bathed here back in the day. Still operating as a bath, you can come and soak in your own private bath. Kind of like a mini pool all to yourself. It really was wonderful. After my soak I got a full body massage. The massage was great and I felt great afterwards. The only downside is that the massage areas are not rooms so the beds are separated by curtains not walls so you could sometimes hear conversations around you but for the most part it was quiet. After the massage, they ask if you'd like a shower and they get that running for you. Shampoo and body wash are provided, although I didn't see any wash cloths. Locker area is small but they make sure that no one else comes in while you are in there. There is a small gift shop at the entrance if you'd like to purchase anything. You can also take home some of the mineral water if you'd like. If you want a lot, bring your own jugs to fill up as much as you want. Staff were very friendly and professional. A great experience!

What a treat to find this place. I had never heard of Berkeley Springs, WV or about the spas there. Taking a day trip to the area, I stopped at the Berkeley Springs State Park. The welcome sign states, "America's First Spa." Intrigued, I had to learn more. According to the promo brochures, George Washington paid a visit here in 1761 and took in the healing waters. Colonists had arrived in 1730 and "learned from the native people" the uses and benefits of the healing waters of the springs. I doubt that is exactly how it went down, but don't doubt Native Americans had them first until their lands were offered for public sale, George Washington being a first purchaser. Anyway, here we are in 2023 and the Roman Baths are available for anyone to enjoy. And that, I did. For a half hour I submerged myself in 104-degree mineral spring water and enjoyed a therapeutic spa experience. The spa attendants were fantastic (especially the pregnant one - didn't get her name). She explained how everything was going to happen, offered fresh water inside the room, and knocked when my time was up.

Amazing experience. You take a Roman bath in the healing waters of the springs and you come out feeling amazing. The local breweries are great too and everyone is nice and friendly. Service is amazing as well

We always enjoy visiting Berkeley Springs and this spa is the best! I enjoy the sauna ! The facility is very clean and the service is excellent... with a very friendly and welcoming staff. The sauna and showers are always clean and well tended. Berkeley Springs is a charming town with much to offer. We highly recommend it!

Clean. Relaxing. Friendly and professional staff. Looking forward to going back. Tip: go with swimsuit on and change afterwards to maximize time. 30 minutes is enough. It's hot and an hour is likely not possible and may make you feel ill. We did 30 minutes which was comfortable and enough.

Be sure to make a reservation. It was very relaxing and they have 30 minute slots, and changing room. Spring water towel is provided.

A very relaxing 30 minutes in the hot bath that could accommodate four girlfriends. SO relaxing! Cool water to drink was provided because the water is quite warm. The biggest drawback was the changing area....an old bathroom with no where to hang or place clothes while changing. Otherwise, it is a recommended experience since the baths are the focal point of the area.

Hmmm.....I'm a little torn here. This place needs a facelift. I get that it's historical and all, but it reminded me of a cross between a public restroom (like the rest stops you find along the highway on a long road trip) built in the 1950s and an elementary school. My massage was done by Dale and he did an okay job, but for a one hour massage that costs upwards of 100 bucks, I expect the amenities to be a little greater. First of all, they don't give you slippers, so you are walking around barefoot. They do give you a robe. The locker area doesn't really have any extras, like personal shavers, lotions, q-tips, toothbrushes, nor other fun little toiletries. When you get into the spa area, it has ugly tiles and there are a bunch of men who work there sitting around, watching you walk in. It was a little awkward. The "bath attendant" led me in and the men sitting around all looked up, seemingly bothered that someone was interrupting their conversation. I am not sure what they were doing, because they were just sitting there in the middle area of all the curtained-off bath and massage areas. When you get a massage here, you get to choose between a whirlpool or Roman bath to loosen your muscles before you begin. I chose the whirlpool. They take you into this dull-looking curtained-off section, turn on the jets, and close the curtain. There was a pitcher of water there to drink, but I was getting really hot. I ended up getting out and sitting on the edge. One of the guys sitting back there must have heard me getting out, because he yelled above the jets, "Are you ready to get out?" Hell yes, I was. So then he instructed me to pull the plug to drain the water. Dried off, got the robe back on and Dale was waiting for me. He led me to another curtained area within that large room for the massage. There is traditional "spa music" playing, but you also hear the other men talking and the loud sound of water draining. Not the most peaceful place in the world. Dale did a decent job, but over-all the experience just wasn't exactly what I would expect for the price I paid. Maybe one of the other spas in Berkeley Springs would be a better choice. But this one is not one I could easily recommend.

I decided to try this place instead of the Renaissance Spa, NEVER AGAIN. The massage was mid, not terrible but certainly not good either. The massage "rooms" were separated by curtains so I could hear the woman next to me talking to her massage therapist the entire time. Then when I got to check out they charged me 20$ more than the price on their website which I had confirmed with one of their staff when I made the reservation. I pointed this out to them and they refused to honor the price listed on their own website that I had been told over the phone was the correct price. The manager was extremely rude to me and told me it was "not their problem" and that I had to pay the higher price. She was super aggressive to the point that I left in tears. Don't waste your time or your money here!

Lovely experience, my friend and I took our toddlers-everyone had a really nice time. The kids loved seeing the minnows, and enjoying the outdoor warm water wading spots. We then had a spa bath with the perfect temperature for all to enjoy. The attendants were fantastic, incredibly gracious. Highly recommend enjoying this healthy historic, family friendly, spa.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. We did an hour hot mineral bath --AMAZING! One recommendation - bring lots of ice cold water with you. I have taken some photos on the prices for bath and massages. This park in also in the downtown area so you can get some food afterwards.

OMG!!! Are you stressed-out??? Come here! Book a hot bath in the mineral waters!! Sssssooooooo relaxing and therapeutic!!! This is a MUST if you are in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, which has now become a Washington, DC suburb!

So much fun definitely a unique experience! Enjoyed the Roman bath house staff very friendly and knowledgeable about your experience. We will definitely be back!

We didn't really know what to expect when we scheduled in for a Roman bath at the state park but it was amazing. Lovely facilities, the kindest spa attendant, luxurious robes and a bath that was heavenly.

The Roman Baths are awesome. This was my second visit and they were very friendly. They were doing construction on the other bath house so they were not doing any baths because they didn't have water due to.construction. Thankfully the ladies at the Roman Baths let me use their bathrooms twice and they were very kind. The park is really nice, make sure to bring or buy water bottles to fill at the spring fountain

Very nice park in the middle of town. Full of history, this area contains the warm mineral springs. The bath house has spa treatments which include 15 minutes of quiet relaxation in the mineral waters. All kinds of massage treatments include Therapeutic, hot stones, cupped, prenatal, couples and chair. Sauna and showers are available. Make a reservation. A gift shop is worth browsing. In the park are the remnants of baths from the 1700s, including George Washington's personal bath. Traveling, I had packed a lunch and ate it here. On the grounds are lots of tables, benches, a gazebo and the city pool. The area is charming. Check out the Visitors Center nearby. Park in the free gravel lot and walk the town.

I visited twice during my stay in town. First time was in the Roman bath, it was very nice. Each bath is freshly prepared with nice and hot fresh mineral water. You are in a private and comfortable room, the bathing area has room for four people. There is plenty of room to stretch out and float. They knock on your door when your session is over and that is a signal to hit the switch that starts to drain the tub. My second visit was a couple of days later and was in the main bath house. This time I tried one of the tubs with power jets. Again this was a freshly drawn bath. So refreshing, and very invigorating with the power jets. Staff was very friendly both times and for the price, Very very worth it! Will definitely use these facilities again on next visit to Berkeley Springs!

What a neat place to come for a day trip. I spent $27 for a half an hour alone in a hot spring Roman Bath. It was worth every penny. My skin was glowing and I felt revitalized after that experience. For 1$ you can purchase a gallon jog to fill from the spring tap outside to take home (It even has a cute Berkeley Springs sticker on it). I thoroughly enjoyed my day trip of relaxation from DC to WV thanks to this bath experience. I recommend making an appointment, it was quite busy.

What a great public pool! The pool itself is filled with the local spring water so it is warmer than most pools in the area. It's a very large pool with a deep end (8') so kids can go play at one end while little kids and adults are at the other. They do have limited lounge chairs so come early to claim one. They have several picnic tables for lunch or just to put your stuff on. The bathroom/changing area is nice and open. Plenty of room. They have a small snack bar area with drinks, snacks, pizza etc. You can always just bring your own snacks. Friday's are busy in the summer, so if you are looking for quiet time try a day during the week. The only downfall is the pool is not a walk on pool. You have to be able to climb the stairs getting in and out. But if you can do that, it's a great place to come!

I came to Berkeley Springs to check out the Apple Butter Festival, so a trip out to WV wasn't a complete waste. Seeing George Washington's Bathtub was so ridiculous, hilarious, and interesting at the same time, and I am glad I got to see it. He seemed so small in person, though, but I thought it was neat that this park had mineral water that supposedly has 'healing' powers. I read that those with a skin condition like psoriasis or eczema can take advantage of these mineral waters, whether wading through the 'pool' (at your own risk) or trying out their 'spa' that's located on the premise (which I thought was kind of weird). I did read that the 'spa' had a renovation done for the men and the women part, but the family/couple rooms seemed to still look run-down. +George Washington's Bathtub +mineral water +spa services on-site

It's hot. But that's to be expected. We bought a half hour. Now I wish I would have bought a whole hour. There were three of us. The bath was just big enough so we didn't invade each other's space. It was wonderful! I have arthritis and being in that water was a blessing. It felt really hot and I didn't know if I could tolerate it. However once you are in it's not bad. One friend has dry itchy skin. It has been a week now since we were there and she says her skin has improved! They have water from the spring to drink. I thought this is going to taste like crap. I tried it and didn't notice any minerals. It was good. There is an area outside bathhouse where you can fill up your water container. Many people do. Also outside the bath house there are pools for people to use that are free We just used the bath, no message. If I lived closer I would do this on a regular basis. It's worth the try

What a wonderful way to spend a half hour or hour. Myself and my husband can only do half hour so first time users do only that time. You couldn't ask for nicer people. Anyone close to there should go!

We had a lovely soak at the Roman spa, so relaxing. However, the attendant's hostility was shocking and uncalled for. The young receptionist was friendly, helpful and professional. However when I asked her if the provided drinking water was tested for pathogens and whether it had chlorine ( like the drinking water at the other spas and the public spout in the park), the older attendant, on duty around noon on 7/26/22, snapped at me in an excessively irritated and hostile way, for asking the question, which was not even directed to her, then stormed off before I had a chance to reply. As if still not satisfied, she came back while we were waiting in the waiting room, and spewed more hostility to the young lady at the desk, about my horribly stupid and annoying question, including something incoherent about buying water at wallMart? while we were sitting just a few feet away, while glaring at me in a very hostile way, going on and on about it, until our room was ready, as if trying to pick a fight? Obviously, I'm not interested in getting in a fight with an attendant while at a spa, on a relaxing vacation. An employee at a spa should know that many people are concerned about pathogens and chlorine in their drinking water, for health reasons. And if she doesn't, no need to answer a question directed to someone else. Her behavior was so obviously inappropriate and disproportionate, it was clear that she was taking something out on me that had nothing to do with me. Even if a client's question was the stupidest question in the history of all stupid questions, that level of hostility and toxicity is unacceptable, unprofessional, and not only creates a toxic environment for the guests, but also poisons the working environment for fellow employees. Is this the kind of person you want interfacing with the public at your spa?

I've been making a three-hour round-trip day trek to the Old Roman Bathhouse several times a year since 2011. I can't bring myself to give one star but I'm so unhappy with my visit yesterday. The Old Roman Bathhouse is becoming really popular--the last two times I've tried to go, booked. Fortunately I was only passing through from D.C. one time, and was already there for a spa weekend with my mom the second, so it wasn't much of a loss not to get a soak. I heard staff tell someone who came in yesterday (Saturday at 1PM) they were booked until Monday. I am happy this place is popular but this should be a signal to pick up your game folks, not drop the ball. 1) The female attendant would not add additional hot water to my bay--this request has never been denied and I do this every time I go. These women need to be safe, I understand--the employee who had been there for many years and recently left told me a husband and wife couple would intentionally disrobe and request she come in to heat up their bay to present themselves half nude to her--NO WAY JOSE! But I was fully clothed and hadn't even closed my door yet. I am an single adult woman requesting my water be heated up--I paid $27 for 30 minutes and gave a $5 pre-tip--heat up my damn water if I say I want my water hotter! I have begun going across the park to get massages at the spa and it comes with a 15 minute pre-soak in a private tub--the tubs are more updated and you have access to the tap to heat up your own water, which I do about 3 times, so the excuse of safety cannot be made--they are allowing you to do it right across the park. I am paying for this experience, I want the water temperature where I like it. I was totally pissed this simple request was denied. 2) The pool was dirty. I could see the bath scum around the edge and the tiles around the edge of the landing floor were dirty. Turnover is getting higher as they are getting much busier, this is not the time to stop scrubbing the tiles. When I used to come when I was sometimes the only person there, I have seen them in there clearing the empty pools with a hose in between soaks. These pools take about 20 minutes to drain and re-fill per visit--I know time is getting crunched with the high volume, but you cannot neglect cleanliness. This is a safety issue. 3) They put me in bay #1. It was loud with the coming and going of people, I get it. But there was a woman and her young daughter waiting, post soak, for her husband and their son who were in another bay. I could hear everything they were saying, including her 8 year old daughter who kept making a repeated squeaking noise. It wasn't relaxing. Why is there not a quiet policy in the waiting room as there is in EVERY spa in this area *including the state-owned spa right across the way* where there are signs everywhere requesting low voices? Bay #1 during peak time was awful. 4) Not a Roman Bath specific issue but the public taps were packed to the point that, after visiting twice to fill up my one water bottle, I just left. The one public tap has been broken since my last visit in September. There were 2 groups in front of me with 20 gallons of water to fill up (I'm not exaggerating). I don't know, maybe we can make way for people who just want to fill up one Kleen Canteen instead of making them wait 10 minutes while you get your home water supply for the next 2 weeks? I still recommend the Berkley Springs State Park Spa on the southern end of the park, but the Old Roman Bathhouse (which you can see from my previous reviews was nothing short of beloved by me) I can no longer recommend. I rarely get angry but I was angry enough yesterday to come and write a review. Water was cooler than I like, and it was dirty, and loud. I loved thee, but I will not return to the Old Roman Bathhouses and it truly breaks my heart.

While in Berkeley Springs for a girl's weekend, our group enjoyed a mineral spring water bath. The staff were all very friendly, and both the newly renovated Roman Bath House and main house were very clean. Our 1 hour bath was such a fun and relaxing experience. We played spa music on one of our phones, which added to the atmosphere. Make sure to visit the museum. Knowing the history makes the bath experience more impressive.

Had a top-notch 1-hour massage from Yvette, as good as any top spa. It included a 15-minute private soak in heated mineral waters and a FULL hour massage (so many places give you only 50 minutes). Yvette was extremely sweet and clearly experienced, giving you the intensity you desire. Mid-week the price is $99, less for seniors. Because of COVID, they are limiting appointments, so very tranquil atmosphere.

In the heart of historic Berkeley Springs, WV, lies Berkeley Springs State Park, a four-acre "village green" of sorts. This is where the natural springs gurgle up from the earth and fill the sandy-bottomed troughs and pools that stitch the park together from end-to-end. Thought to have healing and restorative powers, the springs have been used for centuries by Native Americans, early settlers, our nation's founding fathers (including George Washington, who had his own private bathing pool here), local townspeople, and visitors from all over. Berkeley Springs -- officially named Bath but called Berkeley Springs because of the name on the post office -- is known as America's first resort spa. The mineral water bubbles up naturally at 74° and contains sodium chloride, calcium sulphate, magnesium carbonate, silica, nitrogen, and dissolved oxygen, to name a few of its minerals and gases. A bath house on the grounds offers massages, heated spas, saunas, and mineral water showers for a fee. But for no cost, you can slip into one of the Park's crystal clear spring pools -- or Gee Dub's very own bath -- and soak up the silky, curative water. On a humid summer day, that 74° feels downright cool and refreshing. It's a lovely, if public, way to relax. My only complaint about this quaint little park is the public swimming pool. First of all, it's smack in the middle of the green. Why the town decided to open a swimming pool (chlorinated, and not fed by the springs as far as I can tell) in the center of this historic park is a mystery. Second of all, it's painted a bright Prussian blue. If the least bit of effort had been made for it to blend in a bit more -- painting it gray, or building it from slate or rock -- it wouldn't detract from the park nearly as much as it does. The pool is a small beef. The rest of the park is well worth a visit, and those springs are truly special.

A really unique experience! My husband and I shared a 30 min Roman Bath soak, and it was plenty long enough. We spent $44 for the two of us. The Roman Bathhouse is pretty old, and it could definitely stand to have some improvements made. But if you are looking for something that is relaxing and unique to the area, this is it.

My family and I live close by and we frequently visit here. It's a beautiful park and you can fill up your own jugs with delicious spring water for free! Beautiful view of the mountainside the stream is a great place for the kids to wade and catch minnows.

I read about this place once, and it has been on my "to do" list for a while. Finally got there, and it was all I expected it to be from a historic tourist destination - equal parts historic, interesting and hokey fun. First of all, having never been to West Virginia before I found the tiny town of Berkeley Springs to be quaint with many things one would expect from a tourist town - ice cream and coffee shops, some clothiers and a few restaurants. A highlight was the old movie theater. With many day spas and b and bs scattered throughout I would think this would be a good weekend destination. As it was, we were just there for the park for the day as I had my toddler with me. There is a large area with 2 small pools, and a more of a channel available for free for anyone to soak in the mineral spring. This is a perfect area for smaller children to splash around. The springs themselves are very fascinating as highlighted in printed literature there, as well as a small museum (donation $2). They are a constant 74 degrees, and bubble occasionally. George Washington and his contemporaries spent significant time here and it has been a spa destination ever since. There are spa services affiliated with the park, and though the facilities didn't seem to be 5 star, they were clean and fairly priced. There are also two large swimming pools which are open to the public for a small fee ($3 I think?) These pools are supplied by the mineral springs, but it was a little chilly the day we were there so splashing in the free areas was enough. In all, I think this was a great day destination, with plenty to explore for a weekend.

Unexpected history, beauty and community. Great for a family or romantic getaway. Lots of wonderful hiking trails within 30 -60 min drive.
