Wow!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED????. We came here a couple times last time we were in siesta key. We were all excited to eat here. NOT the same. The waitress struggled to offer to take our order after we ordered drinks and an appetizer. We were never once offered any refills on our pop, there were only about 5 or 6 other tables with customers so it was not very busy. We ordered two burgers and an original salty dog and a loaded salty dog. The hot dogs had absolutely no taste. Last time we came we had left a 5 star review. The original was fried so hard that the batter was absolutly rock hard. The loaded had the tiniest amount of grilled onion and saurkrut hidden under the dog which is stange because the whole thing tasted like nothing but burnt greasy onions. There are so many amazing places to eat here. Would not suggest spending $90 on a couple dogs and burgers that were not very good.

The Old Salty Dog Siesta Key: A Mixed Bag, But Worth a Visit! Our recent trip to The Old Salty Dog on Siesta Key offered a bit of a mixed experience, but overall, it's a place we'd consider visiting again, especially if you have a furry friend! First and foremost, it's a wonderfully dog-friendly place, which is a huge plus for pet owners. They were very welcoming to our dog, making it easy and enjoyable to dine out with our companion. The relaxed, casual atmosphere is perfect for a laid-back meal by the water. Now, for the food. I decided to be adventurous and ordered their signature dish, the "Salty Dog." Unfortunately, I really did not like it. It just wasn't to my personal taste, and I found it quite overwhelming. However, this is where the "mixed bag" comes in: my family ordered other dishes that were great! They enjoyed their meals thoroughly, with everything from seafood to other pub-style fare receiving high marks. This suggests that while my particular choice wasn't a hit, the kitchen is certainly capable of producing delicious food. So, while I might steer clear of the "Salty Dog" next time, the positive experience of dining with our dog and the enjoyment my family had with their meals means we'd still recommend The Old Salty Dog Siesta Key. Just be sure to explore their menu beyond the namesake dish!

Firecracker wrap with shrimp is incredible. Tortilla wasn't dried out. The sauce has a kick. Good taste. The batter chicken sandwich is huge. Real chicken that isn't batter on top of batter on top of batter. The original salty dog though isn't something I'd get again. Rum cake was moist and so yummy!!!! Key lime slice is fine. Glad desserts are local.

Another little local gem just North of Siesta Key village by about a block. It turned out to be one those (If you know then you know) places. Food was really delicious and portions size was tremendous. Staff where all very friendly. The place appears to be way bigger on the inside then it looks on the outside. It also sports one of the longest bars that I've seen in the whole village. We were very impressed with the atmosphere and the personaliized decore. It gives the restaurant a special and unique identity. Anthony was our server and he was friendly and efficient had our drinks to us very quickly and the food followed soon after. Very fast service. I tried the Loaded Salty Dog (one of their signature dishes) I have to tell you that was the biggest and I dare say probably the best hot dog I have ever had. Meat was jucy and delicious not something you find everywhere. This dog was loaded down with 3 types of cheese and Sautéed onions and mushrooms as well as crisp sourkrut. The hot dog nearly won. I.almost couldn't finish it. They claimed it was a quarter pound dog, the whole sandwich likely weighted in at 1 and 1/4 pounds.. Be really hungry if you order this monster...but if you can't finish it (Henry thier mascot maybe standing by literally to help you clean up.) Heather sampled the Grilled Shrimp Tacos and they where also pretty large and she found them wonderfully flavorful. The Beer I ordered was a locally brewed Draft and it was cold crisp and really hit the spot. Heather sampled one of their special house made Margaritas and it was delicious but stout...they didn't skimp on the tequila that's for sure. So if you haven't tried this place I strongly recommend it. We will be trying more of their fine cuisine on our next visit. Very glad we stopped in today.

Google
I LOVE that we could bring our dog with us (patio dining and it was perfect!) Service was great. Mixed thoughts on the food. The wonton tacos were AWESOME, but very small portion for the price. Grilled mahi had no flavor and was a bit dry. The chili (not pictured) had too much chili power added which made it overly salty.

Google
Service was friendly, the atmosphere was good for the time of the day (lunch) and the food was ok. Had a great craft beer (think it was mango flavoured light ale type). We had the mussels, firecracker wrap and the hotdog. The endamme and chickpea salad as a side was great. Think this place comes alive late evenings.

Google
We went here for lunch today. We had a big group. Employee Chloe saw us struggling to get a picture of all of us outside the restaurant. She hopped over the railing and got a great picture for us. The drink selection was great, the food was really good. I got the grouper. My sons got the Salty Dog hot dog. The service was excellent. There was nothing not to like about the Salty Dog.

Google
While our server was nice, the food was cold and bland which is such a let down. The place was empty on a Sunday afternoon and still took a while to get our food.

Yelp
We go to OSD every year we come to Siesta Key. We never miss eating our first meal there. This time we were served by Jay. He was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and so enjoyable to talk to. Everything ate great, as usual. Thank you for a wonderful experience. See you next year. Jude and Dick Parke of Cleveland, OH

Yelp
Your food tastes like it sounds salty dog shit that's what y'all should call the restaurant My buddy said your food was good and I told him to never say that ever again y'all food is a disgrace to American cuisine Somebody recommended this spot to us and said it was good, Bullshit. I am sorry to disappoint y'all need to just stop the hotdogs. Don't even get me started at the end of the day I would pick McDonald's over y'all any day thank you for the shitty food

Yelp
Cute place with indoor and outdoor dining. The food was really good. The staff was extremely friendly and nice. It has a nice beach vibe. Recommend checking it out!

Yelp
We ended up here for dinner around 6:45 after driving down the main drag and finding all of the restaurants jam packed Z this location is towards the end of the line of restaurants but gosh, I'm glad we ended up here! This is a unique restaurant/bar serving seafood and other sandwiches, salads and entrees. We had an incredible experience. The food. The service. The vibe. All top notch! The 3 adults all had the lobster roll special. Good lord it was good! Served on a butte try, perfectly toasted Texas toast and stuffed full of the yummiest lobster meat. My only feedback would be to serve it with a lemon wedge on the side. The kiddos spilt a Mac n cheese meal with watermelon. Super creamy and homemade tasting. No cheap Kraft Mac around d here. We order some dessert to go (to eat on the beach at sunset). Get the key lime pie! It had the most perfect crumbly graham cracker crust and a custard style key lime. We'll probably end up picking up more tomorrow, it was that good. *if you're thinking about the ice cream. Skip it. Our waiter miles was great! Friendly, attentive, timely. Lastly, I LOVE that they had pictures and stories of the dogs available for adoption at the local humane society. What an amazing way to display and get the faces of those sweet babies out to the public while maintaining the branding, "old salty dog". Kudos for being good people.

Yelp
Took a drive to siesta key to see the most "beautiful beach in the USA" and this little restaurant was a highlight for me and the kids. Great service and great food. Prices good and local beer on tap. Kids loved the salty dog and the fried fish was a good portion. Tough parking so be prepared for that.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing and fresh to order. Close to the beach. Merchandise available for purchase like t-shirts. Friendly service.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Food was very good but the service was very poor, had to keep flagging down other waitresses because ours kept disappearing and only came to our table like two times even when drinks were empty and we needed the check. We had to wait almost 15-20 after getting done eating for check.
google avatar

Yelp
The Old Salty Dog was one of two restaurants that we visited twice on our visit the Siesta Key. The first time I got the Surf and Turk entree. The shrimp was excellent, but the steak was overcooked and a little under seasoned. I wouldn't get it again. However, the crab legs were juicy, easy to crack open, and very filling. The price for the crab legs were the best I saw on the island, and worth every penny! Just be aware... they are definitely messy! Our service was fast and great, despite being busy. The restaurant as a whole is quitter than a lot of the other restaurants on the island, but it is a nice change of pace if you'd like a more relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
Walked down to Old Salty Dog with our dog to site on the patio and enjoy some grub. The Salty Dog is located just down slightly from the mayhem of the Siesta Key Village area. We had a great meal and solid service. Our dog was spoiled by the waitstaff, and we enjoyed what I will call the best onion rings we had on our whole trip! The order was huge and yes, fresh, hand cut, and battered onion rings came to our table! This is another joint I'd come back to in a heartbeat and this one is within walking distance from our stay so big bonus!

Yelp
When you are looking for the most incredible grouper sandwich you have found it! We had the grouper egg rolls- fantastic and then grouper sandwiches! One of us had the salty dog and loved it! Our server was super attentive and had great recommendations! It was an incredible meal! It was a fun, lively place- great evening!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite dinners in Siesta Key. The staff were great and pointed us in the right direction for our food and drink orders. For my meal I had the grouper rueben. It was one of the most unique flavor combinations I've ever had. The rye bread was perfect and held everything together. Amazing sandwich and a great experience overall.

Deborah P.

Yelp
Enjoyed their nachos that they served even though it's a seafood restaurant. Thanks for being there when looking fun or a meal.

Yelp
My biggest complaint is that the draft beer is stale. I also think that the price of a hamburger is overpriced for what you get. It is a nice dive restaurant. I don't think I would go there again. The waitress or bartender is very preoccupied with other conversations than serving

Gary S.

Yelp
Food was okay. Blacked fish tacos were good. Service was decent. Ambiance was your typical on the water restaurant. It was very windy.

Conner F.

Yelp
Fries were either soggy or really hard. Buns were cold and soggy. The fish was extremely over-seasoned. Apple slices for the side were unwashed and still had the sticker on them. Waiters were pretty good, and the resturant looks good sitting outside. Wouldn't recommend unless your getting the hot dogs, which I heard were good.

Yelp
The Old Salty Dog is a classic and I will always return to eat every time I visit the Sarasota area. The service was fairly fast for a Friday evening. This certain location has a good atmosphere being located on Ocean Blvd. The food was delicious and fresh!

Yelp
It's no wonder that this place has been here for 39 years. The booze is plentiful, the tourists are seasonal, and the dogs are welcome. And the Shrimp Po'Boy is good! Nice French roll, toasted, with fresh chopped Romaine lettuce and tomatoes. Fried shrimp with fairly bland (Britishish) beer batter. Chipotle mayo on the side. No spice until I added some Chulula. But nice salad crunch and juicy shrimp! Cole slaw: crunchy and refreshing, no mayo, with pineapple. Good fries! I also ordered a tequila gimlet with some added pineapple. Excellent service from bartender Lacey.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool place with an outdoor terrace to people watch into the main street I had the coconut shrimp and pina colada. Both Great

Yelp
Lucky us I like that you can park right in front of the restaurant, that is if you can score a parking space. We did, someone was backing out. Our good fortune continued with very good food and excellent service. For this visit I did get their Famous Salty Dog, a large deep fried hot dog. I opted for cheddar cheese, there are many types of toppings available. I once did their Man vs Food Challenge, which had lots of toppings. I finished it and decided once was enough for that much food. But I digress, for this visit my big dog was very good, and I finished it off. I also got raw onions, which came in a small cup instead of on my dog. Good fries, too. Our server was sweet and attentive, checking back with us often. Our food, a salty dog and a fish & chips, were dropped off well under 10 minutes. Impressive.

Yelp
Sunday night dinner, no wait. Inside table with a server being trained ( forgot his name) very personable. Did a very good job. For came out quickly, all orders were correct. Welcome to the restaurant business. Everyone should work in hospitality once in their lives. If this was true, there would be less negative reviews. Thank you

Yelp
Great food great price our waitress was great . Clean good music . I had the po-boy and it was great Wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. She said it was good .

Josh H.

Yelp
We spent 2 weeks on Siesta key and the best thing I ate was the grouper sandwich with American cheese from the old salty dog. We ate outside, the server was great! Kids had plenty to choose from along with a giant margarita that was worth the money. We will be back next year!

Jerry R.

Yelp
Had fried grouper sandwich and a nice lager, fantastic. Wife had a shrimp dish and sangria, fantastic

Yelp
Been at this location a handful of times over the years with the pup The atmosphere, service & food are just ok Touristy place I always leave feeling like I did not have a healthy meal, because I didn't It's an ok place to come w your pup, I've never had to wait for a table since it's not on the main drag, which is the reason I've gone Also appreciate that dogs are allowed on the large covered porch whereas most restaurants only allow you to sit outside on the sidewalk w your dog Will I go back...probably at some point

Yelp
Traveling with our small dog this was the perfect spot! The menu is perfect for humans and pets alike with a small section that caters to dogs. VERY casual spot. We came here twice during our stay, and would return with or without our dog. Service was great and the food was awesome.

Roger E.

Yelp
I'm not sure what could have been better. My son and I each ordered burgers. I added Swiss, mushrooms and sautéed onions. His was a cheese burger with tomato, lettuce. Nice burger, very quick and fries were great. We sat at the bar and Hunter provided the best service we've had all week. Dude was moving and was spot on. Recommend this place

Yelp
I'll preface this review by saying this was my first visit here, but boy was it a good one. Fish soup was on point, great flavor and a nice spicy kick to it. The crab dip was safe if unspectacular but damn were the fish and chips outstanding!! Now as a northern Englishman fish and chips are our staple and nowhere does it better than we do, so when our waitress Blythe said they were good I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. First thing that struck me is the lack of beer batter (stop using this on fish and chips America, it's terrible), this whale sized piece of haddock was lightly coated in a thin crispy batter that was to die for, all while keeping the haddock inside nice and flaky. From first to last bit I was in fish and chip heaven!!! So I've travelled fairly extensively around the country and had some good and some bloody awful fish and chips and this may well be the best I have had this side of the Atlantic!!

Yelp
Was happy to hear the wait for 3 would only be 15mins, we sat beside the host stand to wait. The two guys hosting seemed to not exactly know what they were doing. We were a party of 3 who requested inside, another part of 3 walked up 5min after who requested inside was seated before us. Which we didn't say anything, both hosts were younger and who knows if they had training. Food was okay, not bad but not exceptional. 2 people with 1 drink each, appatizer, entrees, and $15 dessert (I knew this when ordering, still overpriced) plus top was around $105. Overall good service, out waiter was great and very nice. Food came out hot. Porch area is very cute but we chose inside became we were hot coming from the beach. I had conch fridders, rum cake, wings -mild w blue cheese (bc was not great), and a very yummy Pina colada.
google avatar

Laurie C.

Yelp
Very cool little find right on the water. Food was great as well as the drinks. The Key lime daiquiri was delicious and massive. Make sure you save room for dessert! Very relaxing and the staff was friendly. We had a party of 8 and the place was busy but the food came at the perfect moment! We'll absolutely go back again.
google avatar

Wendy V.

Yelp
Great environment, they have flyers for dogs that are in need to be adopted! This is brilliant, and if I was a local and not on vacation. I would take the number of one of the flyers and adopt a dog that is desperate to be loved and have a good life! Plus the food was good and the location was great, walking distance from our hotel!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Excellent service. cold beer, fun cocktails and tasty beach bar grub! We were greeted by Jay, our super friendly server for the afternoon, Jay. He was knowledgeable about the menus (both food and drinks), attentive and patient when we weren't quite ready to order. He gets 5 stars for sure! We had onion rings that were huge, crispy and accompanied by two dipping sauces. All of the food was served as hoped for and nobody left hungry.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Great little spot to grab a drink and some grub. The inside is your typical beach tourist dive-bar scene that has shirts for sale and a nice little area to dine and drink. Outside on the patio they allow dogs which is nice and it is mostly covered, also nice in the Florida heat. The drink selection was great, and you must try the "salty dog" which is a gigantic hot dog deep fried and slathered in cheese and all kinds of toppings. The bang bang sauce is also amazing - a must for dipping in your fries! Service was extremely friendly and quick, a perfect stop on a drive through Siesta Key!
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
This restaurant was decent and I liked that it was located a little bit away from the rest of the hustle and bustle of Siesta Key. Our family sat outside on a picnic table. This is a good option for kids. The grouper and fries I ate were very good. I have no complaints about this place, but nothing about it stood out enough to warrant a 5-star review.

Michael S.

Yelp
Server was very kind and the bartender was enthusiastic about our drink requests. We had a large party and were accommodated well. A/C blew cold air and we ate hot food! Great for a large family outing.
google avatar

Stacey M.

Yelp
Great food, great service, and dog friendly. Nice casual atmosphere on the breezy patio. My husband got the Fully Loaded Salty Dog which is a sight to behold. Had to try a bite, so good!! I got the Shrimp entree, blackened with Parsley Potatoes and side salad. So yummy!

Maria L.

Yelp
This place is great! Amazing food and not crazy to get a seat or too busy. Close to Siesta Key Village. Loved it

Melissa C.

Yelp
The food was good but it's your typical beach fried food. They are known for their fried hotdogs which I didn't eat. The service was good. Beach atmosphere. They have free parking which most restaurants in the area don't.
google avatar

Doug B.

Yelp
Drinks were cold and that part was great. Food wasn't what we expected. Coconut shrimp was burned and discolored (likely due to old oil). Food proportions were very small for prices charged. Thought maybe the rent must be high so the food quality lacked to compensate for it. Unimpressive experience.
google avatar

alyson c.

Yelp
The Old Salty Dog is a stereotypical beachy restaurant, but I really enjoyed it. We started with mussels, which were very flavorful albeit slightly over cooked. I had a Caesar Salad with grilled grouper which I thoroughly enjoyed. The wait service was great, as were the Cocktails. I would definitely dine here again.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
A chilled spot, a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. It's not a fancy spot, super casual, beach attire seems appropriate even. We came here for a salty dog, it's a deep fried hotdog on a bun essentially. More refreshing are the cocktails and beers, so cold and refreshing on a hot day down in the keys. Friendly staff and a nice laid back atmosphere.

John B.

Yelp
We have eaten here several times in the last 5 years and as a rule have been ok but we were there last night and was very disappointed in the food and the atmosphere. The food was cold and it felt like we it had been laying in back waiting on someone to order it. It's not that they were that busy and couldn't figure out how the food came out so quick, we soon figured it out !! I will give it another try only because we've enjoyed it in the past, I hope it was just an off night !!
google avatar

Lottie L.

Yelp
My first time here. I worked seeking the area every Wednesday. I wanted a quick bite for lunch and decided to purchase conch fritters. Food was good. The people are nice. I'd definitely try other options in the future.

Mary C.

Yelp
Food is good! Service is ok. Always a wait to cash out. Outside seating is nice with a limited number of seats without dogs. I get that they are dog friendly but not everyone wants a dog right next to them.
google avatar

Tom I.

Yelp
Food quality is consistently good and priced very reasonably. Love their Happy Hour!!!
google avatar

Adonis P.

Yelp
This spot is a solid choice for lunch in Siesta Key. Had heard decent things about it so we tried it out after driving by it many times headed to the beach. The service was decently fast and friendly. We were seated immediately and out drink orders placed. They have plenty of outside seating with 2 levels. It's too bad there isn't a better view to take advantage of as it just faces the road and more shops. Parking is awkward as street parking is always packed and the closest lot is a block or two away and is typically busy also. We lucked into a spot right in front of the restaurant after circling the are a few times. The food came fairly quickly. It looked great! I had to try their famous fried hot dog! Wife had coconut shrimp. Both were delicious. The hot dog was huge, as were the onion rings. The shrimp were fried perfectly, crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Good experience, but lack of easy parking could drive people to make other dining decisions. We will most likely make a return visit. Worth a stop.
google avatar

Tanya K.

Yelp
Terrible food. The onion rings, and battered shrimp on the poboy taste like nothing. So disgusting and no taste. When i say no taste i mean it. I tried dipping it in every sauce possible be it was still nasty. My birthday dinner ruined because the only person that ate their food was my 7 year old that ordered a plain hamburger. Do not come here.
google avatar

India E.

Yelp
The Old Salty Dog was just a bit too old and salty for me... Not to mention hairy too. I went with my family, and we ordered the Crab dip with chips, mozzarella sticks, THEE Salty Dog with mushrooms & swiss, burgers, and last but definitely not least, the Po' Boy. We enjoyed the apps, the dip was tasty, and the mozzarella sticks were indeed cheesy. The entrees were where the food really got Old and Salty. As we ate, my sister pulled a notable amount of hair from her mouth after taking her 2nd bite. Overall, I must say that the service was terrific, and the woman who helped us was fantastic at handling the situation. As a corporation or business, I feel that how it was handled could've been much better and absolutely needs work. The Ambiance was cool. Being enclosed and near the beach, it could have been a tad cooler In the building, being as though the number of people served. Some Dogs are just too old and salty to do better, but I believe this dog could learn a new trick.
google avatar

Angie J.

Yelp
Food was good . The cost is a little bit . Dog friendly . And cute Road side place to eat at .
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
We always stop by the Old Salty Dog when visiting Siesta Key. Their key lime pina colada is one of our favorites, and my fiancé loves their deep fried hot dog. You can get the salty dog on a bun with toppings, or as little bites with fries which is how I prefer them. The food is typical beach bar food but it's good and the service has always been solid for us. We prefer to sit outside and like that there's parking right out front, which is a bit rare for the village. I would say their bathrooms could use a bit of an update, and they always seem a bit grimey, but otherwise we enjoy visiting.
