Had a family lunch at the Old Triangle and loved it! My family is from Ireland and always has a lovely meal here. The food is good, and the service and atmosphere are amazing! My favorite part of course is the fresh Guinness Draught! The ambiance is gorgeous, with lots of authentic Irish history and pub paraphernalia. Would definitely come back!

I haven't been to Ireland, but if to believe the movies, it looks like it :) But seriously, there is a very pleasant authentic atmosphere here. Sometimes there is live music here too. Friendly employees. It's noisy, but that's normal for a place like this, so it's not a criticism, but just a warning for people who plan to visit a pub. Any pub truly. We ordered a small set of beers(Beer Flight) for my wife and Blue Label Johnnie Walker for me. And for an appetizer, we took their nachos. The beer was not bad (2 were tasty, 1 was average, 1 we didn't really like). The whiskey lived up to many of the reviews about it: tasty, but not so much as to justify its price, so yes, the "blue label" is just a hyped-up color in their line. I liked the nachos. They were a little spicy, but as a person who doesn't like spicy food (specifically spicy, not slightly spicy), I can say that I liked it.

Google
This pub has a really great atmosphere. The decor is beautifully with an old Irish feel, and the live music is so fun and gives a warm inviting feel. There are lots of beer options on tap to choose from. The service is friendly and efficient. One of my friends didn't like their beer, and they happily exchanged it with no attitude or issues. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in Halifax.

Google
3 of 4 of us enjoyed our meal, the chees and broccoli soup, lobster roll and curry chicken was great. Lamb burger was suggested by my son to be average. Although he has very high standards. :). Staff were attentive, beer flight was a good option. Live music even early in the evening was great. Atmosphere was nice and not overly crowded. Would come back for sure. Suited well for most size groups.

Google
A great place to pop in for a pint. We've been here a few times now, and it has yet to disappoint. The food's hot, the beer's cold, and the staff are attentive.

Chris Schultz

Google
Had supper for three and really enjoyed the pub atmosphere and there was a one-man band that provided entertainment throughout the meal. Service was frequent and fast . Enjoyed the steak triangle, pan fried haddock with mashed potatoes and a burger and salad. The food was hot; and they have a varied beer menu.

Google
We had great hopes for this restaurant but we left a little disappointed. The Dublin Pastie was decent but the cream of tomato soup was awful. It tasted like a gruel of leftover pizza sauce from a jar with extra spices to cover up the flavor. It was unlike any cream of tomato I'd ever had and not in a good way. My husband had a burger. Not special. Not bad. Just basic. The atmosphere was great. It's a lively spot with live music which we enjoyed. The service was great at the beginning, but trailed off at the end of the meal. I think they switched waitstaff on us and there was a lack of communication regarding who was responsible for our table. Not a place I'd return to.

Google
Nice Irish pub with live music and large menu catering to many tastes. I liked the steak and mushroom pie, and it's a large portion.

Yelp
We entered through the upper level which was a little calmer, the lower level was actually a lot more happening. We didn't see the sign for buck a shuck until we walked back in the direction of the restaurant, but it was nice and small on a chalk board outside one of the doors. The inside was well lit, clean and had an old world pub feel. Service was pretty fast. The staff were nice. We only had the oysters, which came pretty fast to be honest, and with the standard toppings, but we asked for horseradish, and it came quickly. We enjoyed the oyster and drinks

Yelp
This place has been around Halifax for many years. It has historic decor with deep Irish roots. The entry into the place is strange because there are multiple doors that are open/closed depending on time of day. First come first serve seating with the option to make a reservation. They even have small little rooms with private booth seating. Service is great and the food is amazing. I couldn't stop eating the fries dipped in gravy with my fish and chips. Fish was perfectly breaded and fried. My only complaint is stick with beer or straight up liquor. If you want and good old fashion or manhattan- go elsewhere. Food portions are large so great value for the money.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here and their selection of Irish whiskey is out of this world. The bartender was very attentive and knowledgeable and was working his tail off to make sure everyone was taken care of. The chowder here was great and a generous portion for sure. The perfect stop for true Irish cuisine.

Benjamin D.

Yelp
Love this place! So glad we found it. Best in Halifax. Always on point. I come here every time I visit

Shari D.

Yelp
Great Irish style pub in Irishtown downtown Halifax. 3 different levels of seating, decorations in Authentic Irish style. Nightly entertainment with no coverage. Food was yummy good size serving.

Ian S.

Yelp
Good food good selection of good draft beer. Service not bad. Space an issue, and rowdy teens spoiled it !

Jamie W.

Yelp
If not for the bartender, this place was good. He was so rude. Don't go when he's working. What a nasty guy.

Tanya H.

Yelp
The food is decent, the staff are fun and the vibe is wonderful. The Old Triangle is exactly what you'd expect from a pub with good eats, I'd definitely go again.

Sue F.

Yelp
It' was a rainy day so we decided to plan a pub crawl. The OTIA was the 2nd stop on our crawl. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some great local beer. It was very busy but the staff took time to make sure we were served. The food coming out of the kitchen looked great. If we had not just eaten we would have ordered lunch.

Olivia R.

Yelp
Honestly it's alright, better bars for sure. Also the bouncer killed someone last year.... On Christmas Eve . Cover prices are CRAZYYYYY and the drinks are really expensive. Tbh don't waste your time, and the bouncers stalk you outside the bathroom which is insane and creepy. Keep the police on speed dial when you go here because you never know what's gonna happen.

Lore R.

Yelp
Justin, the bartender, was super friendly and a wealth of local information for these pacific coast tourists. Food and brew were good, music was great, but the service/Justin really made this a memorable dinner.

Michael G.

Yelp
Great service from Maya, though the whole experience took a bit longer than I wanted (it was quite busy and I think she was working the patio alone). Had a nice IPA from Nine Locks, a lobster roll loaded with meat (but on a sad hotdog bun), yummy fries, and a disappointing slaw. Priced quite well compared to some other restaurants serving lobster rolls. Would recommend and I'd try again, just hope they can improve on those couple of missteps.

Patrick F.

Yelp
Good pub, been here a few times. Fun atmosphere when there's live music in the house. Food's good, didn't blow my mind but the burgers and chowder are solid.

Teena D.

Yelp
Sister Sarah, Joey, Gord and I had supper this evening at the Old Triangle. Before Sister Sarah and Joey got there, Michael Lloyd was singing ... and he was really good. I ordered Pan Fried Haddock and it was good. I'd get it again. Gord ordered a Dublin Pastie. He liked the pastie and would get it again but said the rice was cold. Sister Sarah ordered fish and chips. She said it was good ... it looked good. Joey ordered a corned beef sandwich and liked it. Rowdy Dow came on at 9pm and they were good. They played a fun combination of songs and took requests.

Jeannine S.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff, great Irish beers, delicious food. I had a half and half, my wife had Smithwicks, and we shared the Zucchini fritters. We will be back to enjoy dinner and music.

Eric B.

Yelp
Gayle and I had a nice lunch here. We were wandering around hungry, and decided to give this place a go. It was an easy choice for me as Old Triangle throws off a Midwest neighbourhood bar/grill vibe that makes me feel at home. Gayle and I each started off with a "wee pint", Guinness for her and a Nine Locks Fathom Double IPA (from Dartmouth NS). For food, I went for the Triangle Chowder Bowl, while Gayle chose the Salmon Board. We were well pleased with our choices and it was more than enough food for both of us. Service was attentive and efficient, making for a very nice mid-day dining experience.

Eric D.

Yelp
We waited over an hour for our food only to be disappointed by our bland food. Tasteless food and bad service. Not worth the money and definitely not worth the wait. Would not recommend!

Graham K.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday by myself and sat at the bar. I had every intention of getting both food and drink but I was more so on a mission to try some whiskey. They have whiskey flight Wednesdays where pretty much every one of their catered flights are all the same low price. They give you a few shot glasses and lay them out on a paper that describes their flavor profile. I ended up getting two flights (both of which actually had 4 tastes instead of just 3) The staff was talkative and informed about their product. Service was friendly and easy. The interior was everything you think of for an Irish pub, dark wood, green lamps, posters of Guinness. I chatted up my fellow patrons about other great places in the area and the staff joined in.

David M.

Yelp
The beer selection was a little on the tame side but the music was so good. They had a great variety of spirits but it just wasn't what I was looking to have with dinner. The food was moderately priced. The lamb shanks were very well prepared and the fish and chips hit the spot. The service was prompt and efficient. I would not call this out as a must stop, well except for the two guys on guitar, but all in all no complaints at all.

Nitin M.

Yelp
Nice Irish pub with the pub like interiors... our server was polite and nice.. ordered the veggie burger... was just ok.. the bread was a little dry for me.. fries were also the commercial type... not hand cut. Overall a decent place that I can visit again

Vickie W.

Yelp
First time we went there we ordered steak, fish and chips. The food and service were all good. A week later we went again, my husband ordered grilled pork chop, the meat was so dry that he could not finish it. So don't order grilled pork chop there.

Jodi B.

Yelp
A friend from out of town wanted to meet up for brunch before she had to fly home, and being a holiday Monday I wasn't sure what would be open. After confirming that they'd be open, we went down to the Old Triangle which wasn't only open, but it was FULL. We managed to snag a spot at the bar which ended up being very comfy. Because they were so busy, our food took quite a while to get to us - so long that my friend was worried about getting to the airport. But once she relayed her concerns to a waitress (she had to flag one down - one reason sitting at the bar wasn't maybe the best choice) our food came out fairly quickly. My friend ordered the nachos with chicken - and holy moly were there a lot of nachos! I snacked on some and it was pretty delicious - tons of toppings and the salsa was delicious (but not too spicy). I ordered French Toast with blueberry compote and bacon, perfectly cooked. It was amazing. I could've sworn I took photos but they've disappeared so I can't share the delicious glory that was that meal. I'll definitely be back here - definitely for some dinner food rather than brunch!

Ritu D.

Yelp
We came twice on one night.....with the family for dinner earlier in the evening and then just hubby and I later for drinks and listening to the live music. Staff were friendly and service time was reasonable considering how busy it was. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian options, and lots of meat options too. The gluten free pasta with tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes and basil was delicious and came with a gf garlic bun.

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I had the Bacon Egg butty sandwich on a croissant. It was delicious! My husband had the Monday Meatloaf special and was very impressed. Great food - exceeded our expectations. Well done!

Anastasia B.

Yelp
We went for drinks on a Monday night. Unsurprisingly, it was packed, especially in the room where live music is played. Seating options are at the bar, in banquettes or at tables. Justin was accommodating (my friend threw him a bit of a curve on the order). Reasonable prices on everything but wine. Plenty of NS beer and cider options. Loud, so not appropriate for first or getting-to-know-you dates. Trivia party on Tuesday nights - yes, I know that most people call it a pub quiz or something similar, yet I don't care.

Elisa M.

Yelp
An Irish pub in Halifax. Wound up here by going in the wrong direction to the restaurant I had chosen, but I'm happy it turned out that way. Had a very late lunch here - 3 pm - so can't say what it's like a peak times. The server was attentive and nice. I ordered the appetizer mussels with a side of fries to make my own moules frites. The mussels were very good - small, tender, sweet and just garlicky enough. The fries were great - a large portion, crispy outside, tender inside, and may have had Old Bay or some other seasoning on them - very good. My only complaint - I ordered an unsweetened iced tea and got a plastic bottle of Pure Leaf. It wasn't bad, but how hard is it to make "real" iced tea and keep another plastic bottle out of the recycling or landfill?

Yelp
Can't help myself, gotta compare this one to Haifax. Both have music, yay! The Sydney location is good 3 1/2 stars but I'm spoiled by quaint, intimate, small traditional Pub atmosphere of Halifax. Sydney is a large place with a very nice patio. The food is very good but not necessarily exceptional. If you are not comparing the 2 locations, you may be very happy here. The Irish stew was a good stew but made with beef (I expected lamb as in Halifax) .The fish cakes were very flavorful and good. What we loved most? The music! An awesome duo, a fiddler and guitarist played Gaelic music. The music turned the meal into a great experience and a lot of fun.

Kevin Y.

Yelp
A rare five stars for this Irish pub that has one of the best Irish stews I have ever tasted, clean Guinness, and live maritime and Celtic music. Irish pubs are like comfortable sweaters, this one is a maritime cable knit and is as authentic as it gets. I will come back!

D'Arcy L.

Yelp
Fantastic Irish pub in every degree. I decided to come here with a work colleague and enjoyed every minute of it. A kickass Irish pub has a warm chalereuse feel to it somewhat like you are going to a good friends home. Its also a good place to come get your drink on. An exceptional pub is one whereby the menu matches the awesomeness of the beer selection. My selection of drink for my visit was a nice propeller IPA. A fantastic local NS IPA. Lightly hoppy and crisp to the taste yet smooth. For my meal I decided to go with the pub style curry and chips. What arrived was a delicious blend of chicken curry served with mushy peas over some fries. It was so delicious I'd describe it as a chicken curry poutine minus the cheese. The mushy peas were a nice touch to add to the dish. With a pint it flowed down the hachet quite well. Overall if you are in for a drink and a wonderful meal from the old country then this is definitely a top notch place to head to in downtown Hfax.

Carlos F.

Yelp
5 stars for sure! Delicious, good service, great music, and perfect portion size! The steak is delicious! You have to try their Moscow Mule!

Ale O.

Yelp
A happenin' place in Halifax! We found people of all ages at this great bar with amazing service. We were surprised how fast we were served because the place was packed, the live band was singing and people were even dancing. Nachos were great and the feel was even better!!

Rebekah P.

Yelp
Amazing! It was the first time I enjoyed everything about my meal in a long time. I just found my new go to spot. First I would like to say that I love restaurants that have a theme. It's an Irish pub thats menu reflects that. You know the food is going to be good. When you walk into a place that serves Chinese, mexican, italian, and American you know that the quality of the food won't be great. Out date night included bruschetta, curry and chips, steak sandwich, bread pudding, and Guinness gingerbread.

John W.

Yelp
The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse offers a good selection of tasty entrees that are reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and prompt. A great variety of craft beers are available. In addition to indoor service the Old Triangle offers outdoor seating - lots of activity both inside and outdoors - makes for a fun time. The Alehouse is not "over the top" outstanding, but still is a good dining choice for families and a great spot for meeting friends. We'd go back.

Ashley T.

Yelp
If I had an endless bin of money like Scrooge McDuck ala Duck Tales that I could just spend with abandon on whatever the hell I wanted, every year on my birthday I would purchase a plane ticket and fly to Halifax just to have the Guinness Gingerbread as my official birthday dessert. I would order three or four of them and gorge myself silly until I had a serious Guinness and gingerbread hangover, but it would all be worth it. Every last crumb and morsel. I would even lick the warm, boozy, caramel sauce right from the dish like a rabid, banshee dog. Yes, I adore The Old Triangle. We stopped in here for dinner while visiting Halifax. It was a gray, foggy night. I felt like I was stuck in the middle of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner poem until we sought refuge in this cozy pub. The vibe was like a festive, ye olde, Irish inn and I totally dug it. Now back to the gingerbread. The heavenly gingerbread ... The Old Triangle boasts that the Guinness Gingerbread is their signature dessert and I can totally understand why. It's the bomb mutha-fo of all things gingerbread. Move over gingerbread latte from Shitbucks. It's the queen mother of desserts, at least for me, anyway. Living near New Orleans I've had the privilege of indulging in some outrageously fantastic desserts in my day. Whiskey bread pudding and bananas foster. Sweet potato pie and crepes Suzette, but NONE hold a candle to this gingerbread. If you're strolling through downtown Halifax and you've already had dinner, at least make a detour and stop here for dessert. You won't regret it as you leave in a state of Christmassy, gingerbread nirvana. What makes this gingerbread worthy of a three paragraph, overly gushing review on yelp is: gingerbread in general can be bland at times. Sometimes it's like eating sawdust grazed with a cheap hint of cinnamon. The Old Triangle's gingerbread however, has a nice, spicy kick to it. After all, shouldn't ginger be snappy? I used to have a dog named Ginger and she was definitely snappy. The Guinness adds a robust richness making it a rather dark ginger cake. The cake itself is fluffy enough where it doesn't sit in your stomach like a rotting brick of lead. The warm, caramel sauce merged with homemade whipped cream aids to the epicness of this dessert masterpiece. Definitely make sure that your gingerbread is soaked in whipped cream and caramel. Nothing tastes better than warm gingerbread when it's saturated with cool, milky whipped cream. [Faints]. Another kick ass thing I totally dug about this place was the French press coffee. La-tee-da! I'm on the fence about whether or not French press coffee is really better than normal coffee, but having coffee presented to you in a French press makes you feel special, like you're some big hot shot. Hook me up to an IV of it, please. The menu is a tome. A tome of pub fare badassdom. They have everything from pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, steak, hummus, pastas, even freakin' lamb shank and Shepherds pie. If you can't find anything to eat here than you're just too damn picky. The gluten free and vegetarian menus are impressive. Instead of one or two selections you actually get your own chapter in the tome. They have loads of options. I had the Kevin's Celtic burger (vegetarian). It was huge, fresh, and oh so yummy! What I really appreciated about it was that it was a real, honest-to-God, veggie burger. Not some sodium laden, frozen, black bean crap that restaurants keep stashed away in the back pit of their freezer just to appease the whining vegetarian hippies. This veggie burger is lovingly hand made like a piece of art, and topped plentifully with yummy scallions and Tzatziki. Delish! They also have sweet potato fries and curry dip. Who doesn't like sweet potato fries? If you're one of those I-love-Ireland people you'll definitely adore this place. They have Celtic music almost every night to go along with their Irish theme. This week they have Fergus O'Byrne (now there's an Irish meets Harry Potteresque name for you). I would love to hear his music and have another piece of my delectable, oh so amazing gingerbread! (Sigh).

Yelp
Wow...what a fun place. I've had the chance to visit pubs in the US, England and in Ireland and The Old Triangle Ale House has a good thing going. Great food and beer selection, live music, good service and a super location. I wish I was a local as this would definitely be one of my hangouts.

Paul D.

Yelp
This is one of the best pubs in HRM and stocks more Irish spirits than a haunted house in Dublin. The service and patrons are always friendly and the music just gets you in the mood to have fun. Food is also very good but who gets hungry and yells outs "Let's eat Irish tonight ?" There are also lots of taxis parked nearby so there's no need to drive!

Mo O.

Yelp
Of the 15 or so pubs I've been to in Halifax, this is one of my top two favorites. Good location about a block in from the harbor, and walking distance to all sorts of other pubs and eateries. The Old Triangle is a very lively place, and often very busy at night when people come in to watch the live music. Like any self-respecting pub, they have multiple levels and rooms where you can sit, eat, and drink. There is some small amount of outdoor seating, but most of the seating is inside. The decor is Irish-themed, but not over the top "Irish kitsch". This place has a happy, well-used feel, and looks like many pubs I've been to in Ireland. If you like music, laughter, and a little noise, you will feel right at home here. The night we stopped in, the first music act was a solo singer/guitarist covering a variety of hits from the 60's to the 90's. He was very good and did not sound like a solo guy. After that was a local duo doing Celtic / Country music. They were also quite good. They have a full bar, a good beer selection, and all the drinks our group had were well made. We did not try the food, but saw others around us eating and their food looked and smelled good. Service is very good, and the servers are very adept at getting around even when the place is full and the music is going. They made sure our glasses never sat empty. Their drink prices were a wee bit higher than surrounding places, but not out of line for the area. Well worth a visit if you are in Halifax

Mahmood Z.

Yelp
Put shortly: Best pub food ever. Beside that nice and friendly staff that show a real interest in their customers. They take their time to take orders from the children who are there with the family... I had the haddock with broccoli-beef soup on the side. The haddock was fast-fried with little crumb and very little oil, so tender and juicy. And needless to say, the fish was fresh. The soup was heavenly with generous chunks of tender meet. A bit spicy, but that's not a cover up for poor ingredients. The food is all fresh. I also had a corn chowder for the first time in my life, and I promised myself to go home and search for the recipe! By the way, the coffee is French press and comes unpressed. Give it a couple of minutes before pressing. And... On Sunday afternoon they have live Irish music and dance. That was a beautiful experience as well. All in all, great experience. Highly recommended.

Brian K.

Yelp
This was a nice pub with a welcoming atmosphere and a great draft beer selection. We went here for drinks after dinner and we're impressed with the decor and the friendly service. Honestly, I would be giving this pub 4-5 stars if it weren't for the following: However, I was less impressed with the mice who crawled all over the room next to ours - I realize that mice are a reality in old buildings but mice bold enough to scurry around in plain sight rather than when the pub is empty suggests a far greater rodent problem.

Cat B.

Yelp
I said I would re-review when the menu situation got better. I'm bumping it up a star! The 2-for-1 dinner special they had recently helped because we tried things we wouldn't normally order and were pleasantly surprised. And our bill was really good of course. After a few weeks of that special, we then noticed the portions seem bigger now. I'm still very happy with the place, service, music and trivia night! Even with rampant construction everywhere, I can find street parking. The bus and ferry are also nearby if you are planning on having some drinks. I'm not ready to give 5 stars yet, but I can see it happening. I just want to make sure I'm not imagining the portion size. But I at least wanted to bump my review from a 3-star.

Nick B.

Yelp
A lot of "Irish pubs" have that feel of being totally contrived, totally fake, and not at all welcoming. Not so here. The Old Triangle has a comfortable, unpretentious feel with great staff, good food, and pretty decent value. My last visit was with my cousin and her less than a year old son who loves the live music on Monday night. This kid is a true Cape Bretoner, already tapping his feet to fiddle music. Our server had almost a sense of panic about everything, which seemed totally unnecessary but she did a great job of looking after us, including a meal for my little cousin. The meal's got lots of options but doesn't overwhelm. I tend to be wary of anywhere with a massive menu because doing a lot of things implies not doing anything particularly well. Everyone seemed pretty happy with their meals, which is always a plus. As another bonus, we were there the night I came home from a long military deployment, and so they treated me to dessert, an amazing cheesecake I shared with everyone. Totally unexpected and unsolicited, it just came from our server overhearing a bit of our conversation. Definitely appreciated though.

Ashlee F.

Yelp
I finally got to eat here. I was told they have the best sweet potato fries in the city; and they do. I mean, I don't know if they are the BEST because I love all sweet potato fries, but they were pretty freaking delicious! They are served with almost a curry-mayo dipping sauce - YUM! I had those delicious fries with their beer battered haddock. It was very, very good. *insert stomach growling sounds here* They have a great menu with lots and lots of choices. There were several things I wanted to order. My friend Ashley M. ordered a pastie; I had to try a few bites. I don't even remember what was in it, but I remember it was delicious and I want to eat it again. It was the biggest pastie I've ever seen, served with a salad, and it was perfectly flaky and warm! Happy hour is my favourite hour; I think it's from 4-7.

Wayne C.

Yelp
Went here during the week after work for fish and chips. Hadn't been here for quite some time but the meal was exactly the same as I remembered the first time I ate here. The fish batter was fried perfectly, not to heavy, not too crisp. Portion size was perfect for me but I don't like over-sized portions (makes me regret ordering) especially when deep fried. Selection of beer was adequate but if you're looking for a lot of craft beers this isn't the place. Could have a better selection of wines considering the owner/manager is a certified sommelier. For beer and pub fare it's a good place to unwind and talk with friends.

Ryan K.

Yelp
great little irish place. The staff is very nice and fun. We sat out on the patio. even with the cars it was a good experience and not distracting. I had the curry and chips... not great... not horrible and my friend had the Shepards pie, the portion seemed tiny but once he finished he was satisfied. The beer is very reasonable my only draw back was wishig they had some acadian music or any music playing for that matter.

Sergio G.

Yelp
One of Halifax's hot spots, live music, beer and good food. Located very close to the waterfront, plenty of room to sit, but dont expect to be seated in any organizad way. First come first served, it will be up to you and your party to find the best table available. Also, I am aware that is an Irish pub with live music, so I know where I got myself into, but I have to say that the noise level was, at time, too much to handle. Food was just ok. Mussels were quite small but tasty, my burger was a bit dry and my wife's pasta was good. What I really liked was the selection of beers, 24 of them on tap. I had a Hefeweisen Propeller that was the highlight of the experience.

Lesley M.

Yelp
Another iconic local pub that I haven't reviewed. It always shocks me when I haven't already written a review for a place that I've been going to for years. Years! I had so many good and bad times here. I had my first date with my boyfriend here a million years ago. Which is my favourite memory, that could go in both the good and bad category. (I drank more than anyone should on a first date.) I rarely eat here, but when I have it's been great. The seafood here is delicious, although I've only had the deep fried option. Which is pretty hard to mess up. The patio is great but the atmosphere is what keeps me coming back, year after year. I love it! Feels like you're really in a little stone walled pub in Ireland or Scotland, especially if you stop in on a caleigh night! Great music, friendly service and fantastic atmosphere!

Yelp
Just OK - nothing too remarkable about this place that would make me want to go back. I ordered the curry lamb stroganoff and it was decent, but forgettable. The curry sauce was on the blander side and I wished there was a bit more of a kick. It definitely smelled tasty but that didn't translate to an actually tasty curry flavour. The lamb was inconsistency, either cooked well and was still juicy or hard and incredibly dry. You'd think that with the curry, there would be a lot of flavour but the pasta was strangely doughy and kind of masked the taste. Overall, this pub is just meh. Service was friendly, but it was a bit slow getting the menu, ordering, etc.

Yelp
Fittingly part of what I consider the triangle of Halifax's old guard of downtown pubs (Henry House and The Lower Deck being the other two), the Triangle has been a steadfast pub that I've relied on for good food and cold pints over the years. My patronage of the Triangle has steadily risen in the past couple years as it is a regular stop for my co-workers on Fridays, and with good cause. They've got a great pub menu with some unique Irish fare and a great atmosphere to boot with the three levels and diverse seating options available. Two winning dishes I had recently were the steak and kidney triangle, and the curry and chips. I was lured in by the steak and kidney triangle for a few different reasons: first, I can't recall having had kidney before and I was feeling adventurous; secondly, it's meat in a pastry, and that's almost always a good option; and lastly, it's a food shaped like how the business is named and I appreciate that dedication. The hefty triangle of pastry and protein came topped with gravy and a generous helping of fries on the side, because I was going all in on carbs with this meal and a salad had no place here. I really enjoyed the flavour of the triangle; the steak and kidney were plentiful, and brought the typical steak taste along with that hint of sharp offal in the back, with onions and a rich gravy to round it out. It's a hearty entree with roots likely in a labourer's diet, but it had to suffice with soaking up the beer in mine. The fries were also quite good. I wasn't sure if they were fresh cut or frozen fries with the skin on, but they were crisp and salty, so I was indifferent as I stuffed them in my face. The curry and chips were what you would expect - green curry chicken served over fries, with mushy peas on top as well. The Irish obviously aren't too big on marketing as they should have chosen "mashed" as the adjective to make them a bit more appealing, but I suppose tradition won over aesthetics this time. I also chose to sub-in sweet potato fries for an extra $2. The crispy mound of fries came smothered with big chunks of chicken and curry, as well as the aforementioned peas. The curry wasn't spicy but had a pleasant green curry flavour. The peas tasted fine, but the texture with the mashing and pea skins throughout wasn't up my alley. The sweet potato fries were tasty but as one would expect, yielded to the curry and peas and lost their crispness as I battled my way through this dish. That said, it was a delicious hot mess right to the end. If you're looking for a dependable pub with great food, service and beer - head on down to the Triangle.

Yelp
I love this pub! I definitely recommend tapping into your real/borrowed irish roots next time you're heading out for the night. I guarantee you won't be disappointed with 'The Triangle.' With live music every night of the week and a great selection of beer on top, it's pretty hard not to get in the spirit of things at The Old Triangle. Some of my favorites about this place aside from the ambience: The Celtic burger, Killeybegs style fish and Mary Gallagher's Irish Stew. The Triangle gets extra points for having unique salad options as well. Ok so 'organic baby greens' might not be authentic irish fair but not everyone wants to eat fish and chips just because they're at a pub. General points for having such a large menu/wide breadth of options. The tiered levels at The Triangle mean you can usually get close to the band or tuck yourself away into one of their booths at the back, all depending on your preference. The staff at The Triangle are some of the best in terms of efficiency. You might not get the banter or cheery grin you were expecting from an irish bar maid, but aren't you there to talk to whoever you came with anyway? One tip for The Triangle: Get some bouncers who act as though they've experienced human interaction before. Fun Fact: The Triangle serves traditional Irish breakfast on St. Paddy's day from 7am-10am. All proceeds go to 'An Cumann' -The Irish Association of Nova Scotia.

Yelp
Oh man, the food here is good. We came in at 7:20 on Saturday and the music was ending until 9 - so we missed that, but the service was good and the beer selections were good. I had the steak and kidney pie with some chips and curry sauce. Everything was great. Just what I needed after a long trip here.
