We called in for a drink, well behaved dogs welcome. The owners are a lovely couple. Well worth a visit and an interesting fusion menu., although we didn't eat on this occasion, next time we visit we will be trying the menu.

Popped in for the first time and we were really surprised. Old style pub with friendly staff and the food was brilliant. Can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

Went there whilst spending a day in Barnard Castle. Excellent food. Went for a chicken tikka naan wrap. Beer also good. Friendly towards our dog and grandson. Second time here and it didn't disappoint. Worth coming to Barnard Castle just to come here!

Beer was OK not the greatest. Excellent selection of whisky. Rooms are fantastic but no hot water!! Bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was good even though it looked like it had been thrown across the kitchen.

Excellent pub with lovely feel excellent beers and range of good value freshly cooked food. It is clear the couple who own are trying to be as good as they can be. Friendly welcome good service and good attention to detail. It doesn’t look much from the outside but is well worth overcoming qualms to visit.

Warm welcome and lovely food. My wife loved the naanza and my curry was spiced perfectly to my request. Would love to visit again but it's our last day in the area.

We were on our way to Darlington today but found this pub on a search when we were on our way . Honestly we're so happy we did as we've been to Barnard several times but never knew this existed . We would highly recommend to everyone. The menu is extremely diverse with English, Chinese and Indian options . The setting and decor is so welcoming but more than anything the owners ( I presume they were ) were the most adorable kind hearted people and obviously take great joy and pride in their work . We didn't anything too adventurous because I currently have a gum problem thats making it painful to eat but I almost couldn't stop it was that tasty ( the chef is obviously a talent ) our daughter who's generally fussy discovered she loves teriyaki sauce (although it was the best I've ever tasted) Were in the lakes as often as possible but only head to Barnard once every so often although that has now changed as we'll be back every time now 👍🏻 nearly forgot to say but they are very welcoming to dogs which is a must for us and once again thank you for your service you were super hosts 🙏🏻

Yelp
Nice little pub with a garden that backs out onto the castle wall. We had a a few drinks in a sheltered area from the rain. They have very good covid measures in place - one way system, online ordering to your table and hand sanitiser available. .

Yelp
Having not seen some friends for sometime we decided to meet in this pub/hotel. We sat in the front lounge, which is kind of small but there is some space. The bar was unmanned but a simple ring of a bell & someone came to serve from the main bar quickly, on occasion during the evening whilst collecting glasses the staff would take our drinks order & bring them to the table which was a nice touch. No food on this occasion. Was a bank holiday wknd & found seat easily for 4 bit wasn't empty.

Yelp
The old well is a hotel / pub and restaurant We have used the restaurant on a number of occasions but and it has never had more than one or two other parties of diners in. On our last visit I had a dead fly in my salad and when I complained about it I was told that it was not a dead fly and if I was not happy not to pay for it. I believe in constructed criticism but when I get feedback like this I would rather take my business else where what I now do.

Yelp
Although the pub promised a good line up of offers, most of the meals seemed to have been defrosted and reheated in the microwave. The salmon arrived undercooked and when complained it was taken away and then returned in same state but obviously having been nuked. The vegetables were not fresh, but again out of a packet, which is a same for such a agricultural part of the world. Overall this pub needs to make more of an effort and as many of the signs in the shops said, buy local!
