The Olde Bell, a Design Boutique Hotel Hurley, United Kingdom

"The Olde Bell is a modernised 5-star coaching inn providing Ilse Crawford designed restful rooms with a rustic elegance. Some parts date back as far as 1135 and it has kept some of its original design features. The Olde Bell is a 45-minute drive from Central London, and 20 miles from Heathrow. The M4 motorway is less than a 6-mile drive away and Temple Golf Club is a mile away. In warmer months, enjoy local ales and food from the ‘summer kitchen’ in the huge meadow garden. In winter, open fires create an inviting cosiness in the main bar. Free Wi-Fi internet is available throughout." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

I,ve just enjoyed three days/two nights, via travel zoo,at this lovely period pub, where the staff, and food were 👍 great particularly the breakfast. The pub is ideally situated between Harlow, Marlow, and close to Windsor. More drawer space in the bedroom would have got 5 🌟 stars,Particular mention to Ozzie for his service, and Martin for his knowledge, interest in guests, and all things local attractions and road traffic updates.see you again .Thanks

We stopped at the pub for lunch walking along the Thames path and the food was very good. Burgers were a good size and really tasty. Pizzas are massive and really nice. Salads also good to. Garden to the rear was very big and plenty of seating even over a busy bank holiday weekend. Would recommend the pub. Can't comment on the accommodation

The Olde Bell hosted my parents 80th birthday for a group of about 35 friends and family. The whole experience was wonderful. The staff were incredibly kind, thoughtful and eager to please (including tending to wounded grandchildren). They were also very flexible in trying to make things work for us. The food was great, and the venue is beautiful, including a huge garden for kids to romp in, and lovely local walks down to the Thames. Every single guest commented on how great the location was - we could not have asked for anything more.

We have just enjoyed a 2 night stay here and everything was superb! Staff were very polite a credit to you. Room was lovely and a wonderful cosy atmosphere in lounge/bar area. We will definitely stay here again when next in area. Thank you for Prosecco!

I took a group of 20 for a special event for the evening. Staff were fine but the food was not good. I ordered chicken which was dry, not sure what the potato concoction was called but was tasteless and the whole meal was semi cold. I know it is difficult catering for a group at the same time but my son used to run a hotel in Bournemouth and I often took a group of 60 there. (I run a social group). His chef somehow managed to serve food piping hot whether it was dinner or breakfast. Shame because the hotel looked lovely.

Hotel was great for me, the welcoming from the staff was like I was a returning customer, all greeting as I arrived it was lovely. Dom and his cheeky banter was great and you can see the team and himself have a great relationship. My room was perfect and spacious. Surprisingly although it was above the restaurant it was very quiet and I had two nights of beautiful sleep. The food in the evening was excellent. Hope to be working locally again soon so I can make the most of this great establishment.

We had our 2024 wedding reception at the barn at The Olde Bell and it was a wonderful experience. Leah was very helpful in helping us figure out the timings, how to structure the day and the usual order of events since we were a bit clueless. On the day, Vincent was magnificent, so calm and collected, professional but warm. All the staff we had on our day was great, the food was fantastic (multiple guests said they really enjoyed it) and we had a great time. We also used the recommended suppliers for flowers and music and were very happy with both! As a clueless couple whose main requirement was for things to be nice and for everyone to have a good time (I know, not much to work with!), we received a great service and were very happy with how things turned out.

Family lunch for 8. Sad to say this place missed the mark on numerous levels. Poor food, even poorer service. One meal in 8 didn't turn up. Service was next to non existent. I had to keep getting up from the table and going to the bar to request for service. The vast majority of the beef was uneaten and sent back to the kitchen. Couldn't even get a knife into the pork belly. Wanted to speak to the manager at the |end but the gentlemen I was dealing with didn't really understand me (language barrier) so I ended up giving up and leaving. Will not be returning. Shame because the location and building are beautiful.

Yelp
Arriving for dinner with a colleague with no res, we were directed to a small table next to a draughty window in the far corner of the almost empty dining area on a cold night. No choice of tables offered. The menu is a fairly robust sounding British gastro pub menu but with very upmarket prices (£17-20) for mains. The food had the potential to be satisfying and my pork was quite tasty but was served in such tiny portions that it firmly crossed the line to meh. Even the side dish of carrots and swede (£3.50) was tiny and bland - about 2 tablespoons and served almost cold. For dessert I opted for the poached pear and gingerbread. A half pear that was sliced and arranged on the plate, and just reminded me of tinned pears in syrup, accompanied by a mini rectangular piece of brown but completely flavourless cake. The propped up and fanned out pear on the tiny finger of cake with 3 blobs of some sort of sauce was just silly and it was completely bland and uninteresting...Just give me some decent home made hot pudding with enough to leave a customer satisfied. The overly arranged food with tiny portions doesn't work for me and just seems at odds with the descriptions of the dishes on the menu which sound hearty and satisfying and ends up being just mean. Does small portions and arranged food alone equate to gourmet dining? I think not. When we were ready to leave, we became invisible to the wait staff, stuck as we were in the corner. After several attempts we put our coats on and walked up to pay to finally get their attention. Left hungry and irritated and just wanted to leave. So overall not a good dining experience, ham fisted service and high prices with relatively poor value quotient.

Yelp
Spent more than two days at The Olde Bell Hotel for a team event. The main part of the hotel was build in 1135 AD. Amazing and the place is rich with history including meetings between Churchill and Eisenhower. As with any old buildings, it was a little cold...who am I kidding...a lot cold but charming. Food is OK but they have Guiness on tap so...it's OK. Service was great. Probably would have been better if it wasn't so cold.

Yelp
This Inn is a gem of a find, spent the afternoon soon after checking in with a cycle into marlow and back along the river. Later that evening we dined at the Olde Bell Inns award winning restaurant (our three course meal was included in our package). This was really something special. Had some brilliant rabbit sausage rolls to start, a lovely main of chicken breast with stewed lentils and wild mushrooms before finishing it all off with a valrhona chocolate tart served with salted caramel ice cream. Superb! The breakfast the following morning was also something to write home about. Try the banana bread, and home made muffins! Would thoroughly recommend!

Yelp
England's oldest inn has been serving fantastic food for hundreds of years. Although, it has been years since I have been there, I can't imagine that they would let their standards down.

Yelp
Came here last night. It's an old-style pub, very clean and appealingly fitted out with wooden tables and beams running across the ceiling. There are separate bar and dining areas. I rang to book, and was told I could have 6.30pm or 8.30pm; I went for the former. We were greeted upon arrival by a friendly restaurant staff, who told us that they were fully booked. However the room did not fill up when we were there. Service was brisk, and the wine very fairly priced. We started with the broccoli soup (boring), and the ham hock terrine (dry). We then ordered the sirloin, medium rare. It is no exaggeration to say that it was the worst bit of beef ever served to me. It was raw, and had clearly only just been 'shown' the pan, it was sinewy, and generally inedible. I spat out my first morsel because of the fat and gristle. We moaned about it; and to be fair to the staff, they immediately accepted the complaint and we ordered the chicken breast instead. They also spoke to the chef, and reported back that he agreed with everything we said, and he apparently was unhappy with his beef supplier, and had been thinking about changing them. Well, why have the beef on the menu then? The chicken was very very good; moist, well seasoned and flavoursome. The chips however, were overdone and oily. We finished with the chocolate and hazelnut fondant (couldn't find the hazelnut but good nonetheless), and the sticky toffee pudding (just a sponge cake). So a rollercoaster of standards here, but based upon the excellent way that the staff dealt with the problem, I would definitely go back. Maybe I just won't order the beef.
