Every time I find myself in Ocean Beach, a stop at Olive Tree Market is an absolute must. It’s become a bit of a ritual at this point—no trip feels complete without grabbing my favorite sandwich: the legendary James Dean. It’s my go-to every single time, and somehow it never disappoints. The sandwiches here are hearty—so much so that my kids usually split one and are totally satisfied. Beyond the sandwiches, they’ve got a great selection of fresh, pre-made meals for those on the go, and the whole place has this local, neighborhood charm that makes it feel like a hidden gem tucked into a sunny OB corner. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, I can’t recommend Olive Tree Market enough. Fresh food, good vibes, and seriously excellent sandwiches. A total win.

Firstly, I have visited this store on many occasions recently. On my first visit, I entered the store front door and I ask the owner if it was OK for me to bring my dog into the store. She advised me that it was OK. I’ve visited this store on many occasions since. This individual store employee was very rude when I brought my dog into the store. When I checked out at the counter, he rudely informed me to leave my dog outside the store in future visits. He stated that a sign was posted on the doors. I enter the store via the front entrance where no sign is posted. This is a great market with a rude employee. I will continue to shop there but will avoid this employee.

(May 2014) Needs to be viewed more in the context of the entire business (ie high quality deli foods, wine and beer). Not the biggest range but for most punters and especially tourists will be more than enough. Didn’t visit the taproom but looked pretty good. Only 3 minute walk from our holiday digs and for mine was easily OB’s best source of quality beer and wine.

Love this little market! Great freshmade sandwiches and yummy local products. I'm happy they stock Hidden Foods Co. brand pasta sauce and pancake mixes!

The corner store with more than you can imagine…1st class deli, prepared take home meals , deserts and salads, huge wine celection, hot chickens, frozen foods and staples. I think the chicken is small for the price… but overall the quality and convenience are unmatched.

Olive Tree Market pretty much has all of my needs covered: Boochcraft, cheese, rosé ✔️ just really miss the tasting room

This place is amazing. You have to go. Delicious sandwiches. Books, postcards, and tons of supplies for that special meal. I bring my family here as often as possible. So get the sub club card. Great spot for a variety of sandwiches and deli items. Also it's a bit of a tiny grocery store as they have wine, beer, produce, international food items, and basic needs stuff here as well. Parking is a private lot on the backside. Like Kylie P. said easy in easy out. Inside is a cute market with a vast array of stuff. They would probably have what you need. Deli. Friendly staff. Lots of options. Bacado add Turkey - Bomb. The cheddar and sprouts bring this all together. Loads of bacon and the turkey is present and just makes this sandwich tasty. Served on a thick wheat style bread. Italian Torpedo - I believe that was the name of it. Just a average italian sub. Tasty. The pepperchinis add to the flavor. The bread I did not like. It was rather dense and took over the sandwich. The Manhattan - Solid sandwich. Little greasy but tasty af. I sans the lettuce and yeah this was it. Pastrami was generous and the tomato and mayo stuff went well. The cheese melted and delicious. Caprese Pesto Salad - This was shells with pesto and tomatoes. Solid cold pasta salad. Light and tasty. Chocochip Cookie - Aight. Solid sandwiches here. If youre around these parts this is a solid place and should have what youre looking for.

Great deli with loads of hot/cold sandwich options. Service was fast and the gentleman behind the counter was super accommodating with my order. I saw this spot on TikTok and had to stop by while I am in town, definitely not disappointed. There is parking out back and on the street which made pick-up very easy. I got the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich (without Tomato) and it was HUGE -- enough for 2 meals easily.

Nice little marketplace and solid sandwiches. I've been here a couple of times and would return when in the area. There is a small designated parking lot which makes life easy and easy online ordering with timely pickup for deli items. Pretty basic sandwiches but still good quality and tasty for a quick lunch. Will the sandwich absolutely blow your mind? No. But will it scratch your lunchtime itch for a turkey club? Absolutely. The market itself also has anything you'd need for a grab-and-go drink or snack. Staff is always very friendly as well.

Ordered the manhattan and the OB. The cross section of the sandwich was beautiful. The manhattan was really good. A solid pastrami sandwich. Service was really quick and there was a small parking lot next to the deli!

Great place to pick up a sandwich before a picnic. There's plenty of parking behind the building and the staff are friendly. The market has a ton of great things to pick up and look at while your sandwich is being made.

Me and my girlfriend went here after a day at the beach, ordered some sandwiches. The staff was super helpful and answered all of our questions. He also gave us some suggestions as they have quite a few signature sandwiches to choose from. We went with the torpedo and the chipotle chicken. I LOVED the torpedo. So good. Will go back

They always have fast service and delicious sandwiches. Their app makes ordering food a breeze.

I heard The olive tree had legit sandwiches and was in the area and I'm glad I stopped. I ordered the manhattan and I love pastrami sandwiches. I'm not in the area that often but when I am this Will be a normal stop. Will try more sandwiches. Great little store also

Pretty legit sandwich spot that also carries Julian pies! So... I been to this spot a few times and I normally get the safe bet which is the Olive tree signature sandwich, basically a club sandwich. Its a safe sandwich, you won't be disappointed. The other day I went, I got the Manhattan, a hot pastrami. I love a good pastrami but its also a sandwich that can end up being very disappointing from the wrong spot. So to make it a safe call, I also ordered the Olive tree sandwich just in case. The Manhattan was legit man... so I ended up having two sandwiches which wasn't bad but the Manhattan was so good, I now need to start cruising by here on the reg.

I like this place. I don't really head to this side of OB very often but that's changing. Solid sandwiches for a good price. They have a variety of unique food and beverages in their deli. They're very prompt when walk up to the counter to take your order and everyone has been real friendly. The layout is tight because it's packed with shelves of tasty things but it's clean and organized. Nothing bad to say about this place. In fact, I have to compliment them for not following the trend that all of OB is doing by price gouging. Thank you.

Paid over $12 for the most basic sandwich. I don't understand what's the hype about this place. Haven't these customers had better sandwiches than these basic ones served here? No dressing was put on the sandwich nor on the side. The market part is way over priced for any item you can think of. 1st and last visit for me.

The albacore tuna on toasted wheat bread was fresh and so good! I added all the toppings- lettuce, tomato, peperoncinis , mayo and mustard. I asked for extra dill pickles on the side. Fast and friendly service. The market has fresh lies, salads, wine, beer, u name it they have it!

Always get the George Washington sandwich. Thank me later. Awesome mom and pop grocery that has all that you need. Cold cuts, and meats to prepare. Produce, ready to go meals. Make sure to call in your sandwich order!

Very specialized grocery store with a large selection of items! When you don't think they'll have it, they do (aka tajin for my michelada) From local hand crafted items like tortillas and bread to common fresh produce like cilantro (not wilted) and fresh garlic and onions, this market will surprise and satisfy your every need all the way up to check out time when Beto is right there to make you eager to return again! A very unique addition to this quaint little beach town. Highly recommend and will be back. Oh and they have lots of alcohol. And fresh Julian pie!

We've eaten here a few times and it never disappoints! Our go-to orders are the Manhattan (pastrami sandwich) and the Bacado sandwich add turkey. Would recommend ordering ahead on the phone.

This place is out of this world. The staff are really nice and it's very cute and clean. The deli food is amazing and they carry so many other great items. Highly recommend stopping by! My go to is a Turkey sandwich on sourdough :)

Super solid sandwich spot! I've gotten the turkey melt a couple times and it's always been consistently good. Easy to call ahead and order, kind workers, overall a solid spot.

Sandwich's are decent but sometimes on the bland side. I appreciate the pickle but I go there as a last measure and running out of time in my schedule. But they have friendly people working there so 4 stars.

The marinated chicken sandwich was delicious. The roll was very good and the veggies were super fresh. It's rare veggies stand out so much on a sandwich with meat but that's how fresh and good the veggies were on it. The chocolate chip cookie was amazinggg. This whole store is very cool. It had all sorts cool different delicious items like interesting drinks. I got an Orangina which you rarely see these days. Different hot sauces and interesting snacks. The sides all looked amazing. I got some Cole slaw but haven't eaten it yet. Will be back. Definitely recommend. The store workers were super nice and friendly too. Store just has a great vibe to it.

I frequented this business for many years. I love this Marketplace. The sandwiches are really tasty, they offer a lot of groceries which is super convenient and the wine selection is great. The owner is super nice and always thanked me for my business. Check this market out when you're in the area. They have a parking lot too!

Great consistent sandwiches. East to call in, order online or order in person and browse the store. Love the Manhattan on the onion roll. Get it at least once a week. The store has a great selection of hot sauces, wines, canned beer, NA beverages and various other market/grocery store items. Anything you really need and a store that's easy to continue to support. Staff is always friendly and they have a very accessible parking lot right behind the store.

I ordered the sandwiches online and it was ready when I got there. They have their own private parking lot so parking was easy to find. I ordered the chicken chipotle and it was delicious. The flavors were on point. The red peppers added a bit of spice. Their chipotle Mayo was very creamy. Customer service was great since it wasn't busy. Quiet store and the shelves were stocked.

Love everything about it, including the convenient parking lot, the deli, the tiny butcher shop with great prices and high quality meat, the grocery area, amazing selection of gourmet cheese and breads, fresh produce craft beers, and of course.. the wine. It's like a grocery store of days past, pleasant friendly workers, clean and not overwhelmingly huge. No loudspeakers. I love going to the Olive Tree Market, totally reminds me of Kalapawai Market in Kailua. I prefer it over Target by a long shot. Pro tip- they have an unusually large selection of hot sauce and... Asian food supplies.

OB has its handful of sandwich shop liquor stores/whatever. Chris' is great for when I want walk the dog, grab Claw and maybe half a sandwich. Poma's is great for the meatball sub, and pizza of course. Olive Tree is after all a little market. They have a great selection of the harder to find condiments, or other neat additions to your meal. A decent beer and wine selection as well. However, hands down they have the best sandwiches. Today I ordered a Black Forest Ham, American Cheese, with lettuce and Mayo on an Italian roll. Toasted. Dude, lemmie tell you, it was excellent. Crispy lettuce, a healthy amount of meat, and the right amount of cheese and Mayo. The bread was spectacular too. It was no BK Yumbo, but it might be the closest I'll ever get to one again.

Really nice local little market. I primarily visit for the sandwiches, and usually go with Old Smokie on sourdough. Really enjoy just looking through and seeing what else is available. They have one of the better hot sauce selections I've seen, outside of a specialty store. Will definitely be back to grab a few of those. There is an abundance of parking that is a really nice feature as well

Best deli sandwiches in OB and possibly all of San Diego! Highly recommend the Manhattan (pastrami sandwich) and Club. They are huge, a full sandwich is big enough for two people. Don't let the pictures fool you, they are bigger than they look. At first I thought it was a normal size sandwich but its humongous. Plus I like that its not super packed like Chris's deli. We came on friday during lunch and was able to get our sandwich in 10min? We ordered it there too not phone order whereas at Chris' we waited like 30min and the sandwiches were good but not amazing so ROI wasn't worth it... We also really liked the sandwich at OB smoothie but they stopped making sandwiches a month ago for some reason so I'm glad we discovered this place. Short walk from where we live!

The Olive Tree Marketplace is literally my friendly neighborhood market. They have seen me at the best of times and the worst of times. From barely clinging to life from a night out or being fresh faced and chatty, the team here are fun, friendly and very helpful. The deli is my go to stop for a sandwich before headed to the beach or to a picnic. Everyone that works there knows that I am in weekly for my wine- the selection is quite large for a small market. They have every fancy ingredient I need on a whim- cheeses and meats to name a few. Quality product. Wish the tasting room could be brought back!

I really like this place! Their sandwiches are very delicious. I get the veggie. They are open early and the service is quick! They also have a great selection of other items in the store. Highly recommend!

My sandwich was pretty good. I was impressed. The Turkey was fresh, and the bread was soft. I was pleasantly surprised for my first time. The prices are good, and you won't be disappointed. The service was good. Made sure that I was satisfied with just what I ordered or would I like any dessert to go with my takeout order. I didn't this time, but I sure will the next time. I loved the fact that they have their own parking lot too. Very convenient for customers. I'll be back soon.

We stop in a few times a week for deli meat and fantastic bread selections. The potato salad is awesome and the people working there are kind and helpful.

I came in today for arborio rice and they were out of stock. The employee went to the café next-door who happen to have Arborio rice on the menu and got me a small container of it. I really appreciated him going out of his way and that's why this is becoming my regular grocery store

Basic torpedo sandwich. Nothing fancy or fantastic to rave about. Expectations were a little high based from reviews. The bread wasn't fresh like I was expecting for $11 just for a sandwich I better hunt around

I stopped in the Marketplace for one of their famous whole roasted chickens for $5.99 plus a small side potatoes to go along with it. Before picking up my chicken at the register, I checked out the store, and I was impressed on how many quality products they stuff inside the place. The meat counter was small but very nice and organized. The counter with the salad offered a good variety including the potato salad I picked up. I ate the chicken later that same afternoon and it was great. I did feel it needed a little bit of more seasoning but other than that it was juicy and moist. The potato salad was of the yellow variety with mustard, my favorite, and it was very good. The potatoes were tender, the seasoning just right, and came with just the right amount of herb and pickles. Nice friendly market.

We just returned from a trip to San Diego and came across The Olive Tree Marketplace and so happy we did. We stopped in several times for salads and sandwiches to bring to the beach for a picnic. Wonderful people and great food. If I am in Ocean Beach again I will be sure to stop by.

Place is over priced and the owner has wine you can find at the grocery store. Owner isn't very nice either. Acts entitled.

Awesome deli sandwiches!!!! Had a bad ass BLT and Californian! If you are in the Ocean Beach are and want a great sandwich or salad look no further than The Olive Tree Marketplace! Parking available in back! Great wines available and lots of fancy snacks! There is a little outdoor sitting area where you can your sandwich and people watch!

I live just down the street and can't get enough of this little market. Their sandwiches, wraps & salads are always quick & delicious. It's the perfect little store for me to grab a quick lunch or whatever I need that's missing in the fridge. They carry the best meats, cheeses, -- honestly products in general. They keep it local, healthy & delicious & it's soooo appreciated !!!

Best Deli sandwiches with quality breads and meats. Hot and cold sandwiches offered. Great cheese selections you wouldn't expect to see in a small neighborhood market. Also some great hot sauces there too. For over 20 years Olive Tree has been my favorite spot in OB to get sandwiches, drinks and snacks before hitting the cliffs or beach.

My husband and I come here every couple of months to pick up a freshly made Reuben Sandwiches. The meat is tender, the sauce and sauerkraut are very tasty. They offer a full menu of other sandwiches made to order, with a variety of side choices: salads, slaws, pasta. This market carries a nice selection of wines, beer, and other food items. It has a Trader Joe's atmosphere minus the fruits and vegetables. They have also opened an Italian Restaurant one door over from the market.

The one thing I will say I love about this place is how friendly the young men working here are. They do have products I love to cook with and on occasion purchase them, however the prices are just so high. The same bottle of wine I bought here cost $6 less down the road so I'm VERY selective on what I will purchase here. They do have a great cooked chicken deal; the chickens are small but quite tasty. I like the small local owned feel of the place however and as someone who has grown up in this industry understand there needs to be profit. It's not the place to go for small grocery items if you're on a budget but great place if you have open purse strings and like the small town elegant feel of shopping. I'm going to repeat as well/ the service is quite wonderful and people working are very friendly

Rude woman behind the sandwich counter!! I was waiting for my order so in the meantime I was checking their products and seeing what would be a good purchase for a 4th of July beach outing or a friends bbq. I guess I didn't hear them say my order was ready. So they just let my sandwich sit there. When I finally saw people who ordered after me getting their order before me I asked this woman to check on my order. And she rudely said: " We have called 30 times. Your sandwich has been sitting there". Hmmmm...ok. Is it too much trouble to take 5 steps towards me and let me know my order is ready because I didn't hear?? I didn't hear because I was planning on spending more money at YOUR BUSINESS? Didn't buy anything else and just left. Never coming back again and the whole experience made my sandwich taste like crap too. Not worth it!!

Very helpful! Called the store later in the afternoon and was pleased to hear they were still open. We were in town on vacation and didn't know the area too well. We were planning a BBQ and needed avocado! They answered the phone right away and let us know about what was available as well as a suggestion on where to get items they didn't stock.
