Yelp
How does one rate this beautiful, stunning historical hotel where the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald occupied his favorite rooms, and most like penned ideas for famous novels? Once you enter you are taken in by the stone walls, the massive fireplace and the views - the epic views. Okay, this part gets five solid stars.
However, once we were checked in, and we entered into our $900/night club floor suite, we were met with a bit of disappointment. The suite furnishings were in desperate need of upgrading. For $900 + per night, one expects a little more panache, a decorators touch, perhaps a little luxury. The room decor gets 2 stars, but the comfort of the bed 5 stars.

Let's discuss the Terrace View Restaurant:
The Terrace View Restaurant - 3 stars for food and service: 24 oz. Prime Bone in Rib-eye priced at over $100 a La Carte - one expects a melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned, nice charred thick cut piece of meat. Instead, we had a thin cut, grizzly, fatty, pre sliced gray steak. Half of which my husband chewed and spit out on his plate. I paid a hundred dollars for it, I was going to eat it. I was not going to send it back only to get another just like it.
We ordered a salad, and we're still eating when they brought the steak. TIP: Never clear plates until everyone has finished, and never bring the main course when your guests are half way through their salad. I had to send the steak away. When we finished our salad, they brought our steak and forgot our potatoes, then they brought the wrong potatoes, then they brought the right potatoes but we were finished with our steak.
I try to be understanding as I realize that most of the country is going through a hard time with staffing problems, so people are holding on to mediocre staff just to keep a warm body. Hey! We're a business and we feel your pain, but it was a $100 steak.
The Grove Park is one of my all time favorite places I have ever been. The walls alone inspire me to open a journal and pen a few thoughts of my own. It will always be booked with awestruck travelers, and perhaps because of the esthetics alone, they never have to worry about any of the things I have pointed out. I hope that is not the case. There are a lot of concerning reviews on here. It is a wake up call!!!
I will return again, and again and I hope they take my review seriously.
