On the Grid : Oregon Public House

"Located in the heart of the Dekum triangle, the Oregon Public House is the world’s first bar to be classified as a Public Benefit Nonprofit. Run entirely by volunteers, all income is donated to a short list of local charities. The pub itself boasts a “family friendly” space, a wide list of beers (several brewed on site), and food that ventures beyond just pub fare." - Matthew Anderson

I sure hope the Oregon Public House opens back up. This is the type of place we need more of. Some of the profits go to local non-profit organizations, and they rotate them about every 3 months. If you run a non-profit, you can have an event there and put your business in for donations. We have donated to allot of different companies, and it makes you feel good. The food is not bad either, with a decent menu, lots of beer choices and plenty of seating it is a great place to hang out. Bring your kid and they can play in the kids' corner or climb on the large bike lock outside. Outside seating is an option, private booths, bar stools, large round community seating and bus your own station. Please open back up, we miss you.

I went with 3 friends on Sunday. The service was excellant. Usually you order at the beer counter, but they came to our table since they were slow. I had a wonderful vegan burger and my friends had meat burgers. The vegan burger was excellant and the meat burgers looked fresh and yummy. The French fries were delicious. I don't drink but my friends said the beers were excellent. A interesting part of this restaurant is that it is a non profit foundation. They donate their profits after overhead costs are paid. Pretty cool.

One of the finest places to hangout with friends, the food is amazingly delicious, and can be customized to order. The place has a wonderful vibe to it, there is a kids section too for them to play around in the corner. I’m definitely coming back here for more, and to try out other menu options.

The Oregon Public House offers delicious food and drink in a casual setting. Order at the counter and bus your own table. A spectacular place devoted to giving back to the community. Delicious food, always a good tap selection, and apparently the occasional chicken... will continue to be a repeat customer.

The Oregon Public House is a one-of-a-kind spot, where your money and contributions are donated to a local charity of your choice. They frequently have local music artists perform to support a cause. I got the opportunity to see Eric Kallio and support Wayfinding Academy this past Tuesday. The drink selection is better than decent, hosting mostly local brews and wines, but lacks cocktails. If you want to have a chill afternoon with a drink and listen to some live music, this is an excellent place to choose! Food selections left a little to be desired, but the Nachos and Sweet Potato Tots were killer. Highly recommend!

The service is slow, even by Portland standards, I mean really slow. The food & beer options are great & I love their contributions back to the community. But no table service, so go stand in the long line at the bar & wait for the sole bartender to take both your food & drink order. Then you have to stand in line again to order a 2nd drink. They need to fix this one major service issue. I’ve never had a third drink there because I’d have to stand in line for 5-10-20 minutes each time.

Good beer selection, food is a bit pricey given the serving sizes and overall taste. Nice outdoor patio.

This is the Portland nonprofit pub if you are looking. Local charity and excellent beer come together to share with Portland a cozy and compelling neighbourhood pub. You won't find dive bar attitude or upscale cocktail snobbery but you will find quality food, wine and beer is an family friendly community space. Have a pint and change the world. Or at least, change your day. You would be hard pressed to find an easier way to enjoy a local beer and give back at the same time. The food is par for Portland fare. The beer is of their own making. Altruism Brewing is OPH's own micro brewery. It has a wide selection of beers at average micro brew prices. Save some money on Friday if you want to sample their pints. Fridays are happy hour prices all day on their brews. Great if you are looking for something different and positive to do in the quiet NE Portland Neighbourhoods.
