The Original Hot Dog Shop

I gave it 3 stars because the service was kinda slow and there was not a crowd in there. They were just taking their sweet old time. I used to go to Pitt years ago and this place was a staple for my college days. The food was still good the service wasn't bad it was just slow for the amount of people that were in there. I got the Chicken O Club with fries. Their fries are some of the best in the business. A lot of families were in here eating today when I was there. I got a parking spot right in front of the place and parking was free for the holiday weekend I believe. Thanks City of Pittsburgh.

It had been a dream of mine to go here since I was a kid. I finally did. So. Worth. It. Huge portions of salty tasty fries. Cheap drinks. Great dogs. Quiet upstairs with a good view of the streets of Pittsburgh. I loved it and can't wait to go back. It isn't classy, it isn't fancy and if greasy spoons scare you, it isn't for you. But it is an institution, so if greasy spoons scare you live a little and try it anyway.

Its the O!!! Always a crowd pleaser. This place has been around forever and theres no reason not to be. Hot dogs are still good. Fries are off the charts, both size and taste. Seating is plentiful as well as the menu choices. So much history that you need to go either visiting pgh or just in the neighborhood.

A “meat man” recommended a stop here while in Pittsburgh. The dog was good, but not the best I’ve had and a bit pricey I thought. I probably wouldn’t visit again but the place is kinda of a landmark in Pittsburgh seems so it’s worth a visit as long as your expectations are in line.

A number of years ago while watching Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins on a 4th of July weekend they did a spot on the Dirty O. They bragged about how good the french fries were - double fried and very crispy. After watching the show I made it a quest to experience them myself! The week of November 11, 2018 my wife and I drove to Pittsburgh from Michigan and made the Dirty O our first stop. We ordered a philly steak sandwich and medium fries for us to share. The philly steak was very good but the french fries were a disappointment. I was expecting double fried crunchy fries instead we got crunchy fries on top and limp, soggy fries in the middle and bottom of the pile. Perhaps it was an off-day for the fry-master but I think he forgot to shake the basket and double fry the french fries :(.

This was my 1st time there. Food was hot and very good. The server behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. I will go back again!!

Delicious food (especially the fries). I haven't been here in years but it was just as good as I remembered it!
