My wife and I had an unforgettable dinner at The Original Roy’s in Hawaii Kai during our honeymoon, and it was truly a highlight of our trip. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding—special thanks to Scotty and the manager for making us feel so welcomed. They even treated us to champagne and panna cotta on the house, which was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. We tried the wood-smoked Szechuan-style baby back pork ribs, the Misoyaki Butterfish, and a perfectly cooked whole red snapper—every dish was bursting with flavor. To top it all off, we ended the night with Roy’s signature chocolate soufflé, which was absolutely divine. This meal was more than just dinner—it was an experience. Highly recommended for any occasion or a memorable night out in Honolulu.

Ok, took me 2 days to recover from the culinary experience of dining at Roy’s HI Kai & write this review! From reservation making to leaving, it was so aloha-fabulous! Almost don’t want to leave a great review or I might not get my next reservation time! Can’t say enough about their GM Brandon. Kind, attentive, hospitable, detail-focused servant, full of aloha. We could tell that his staff also respect & work hard for him. Our primary server was also Brandon 😂 which made it easy & Kailani & crew also graciously offered service extraordinaire & never said “I don’t know” but always smiled with a “sure, I can help with that!” Happy Hour pupu menu - ordered 5 items! Yikes! The sushi tempura was so good we ordered twice. Cocktails & wine accompaniment reasonably priced & high quality. Lucked out with a Sakura price fixe menu for two! that was sooo yummy & so well priced that I can’t tell you or for sure I won’t get a reservation. Mainly though, we can get great food in many places but their heart of aloha & beyond the call service made it a night to remember. Will be back for their local Hawaiian music night too. Mahalo to all! ❤️

Good service. Food was nice but appetizers could be better- edamame (very oily) and crab cakes (overcooked). Entrees and Desserts were amazing.

This is the third (?) time I have been here. The first being over 30 years ago. This restaurant still delivers gorgeous and delicious dishes. We had a lot of fish and it was great. Appetizers and mains were great. Desserts were okay. (4 ⭐️) I’m rounding up on the food because of the freshness of the fish and beautiful accompaniment and plating. The service was friendly and the water pour was over-the-top (a few glasses at our table were chock full of ice at 80% of glass height) and a sip would be followed by a fresh pour. (robotic) The main server was very friendly but it makes me cringe when they ask series of loaded questions when checking in on you. You don’t want to correct them and say actually I find this too salty/sweet/dry. The atmosphere is festive and the view of the sunset and open kitchen gives a warm and active vibe.

The food was excellent, but the service was even better. Scottie was our bartender and waiter, and he was amazing. It truly made for a great dining experience.

Google
Good food. Good service. Good attention to detail. Celebrated a birthday here and they did a good job at making you feel special. Location from the outside feels like a strip mall. Inside is better.

Original Roy's at Hawaii Kai delivers an unforgettable dining experience that perfectly blends culinary excellence with a great sunset view. The food is nothing short of outstanding, showcasing bold flavors and impeccable presentation that highlight the restaurant's Hawaiian fusion roots. The service was superb-attentive, friendly, and seamless from start to finish, making us feel truly valued. To top it all off, we were treated to a stunning sunset view from the second-floor dining room, which added an extra layer of magic to our evening. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a perfect meal in a beautiful setting. Oh, and by the way, don't forget to save room for one of the souffles. We had both the chocolate and the seasonal pumpkin. Both were delicious!

Excellent staff and atmosphere. The food was delicious. We got the crispy crap cake, butterfish, swordfish, and pineapple upside down cake. Each dish is uniquely tasty and the butterfish wasabi sauce is very impressive. We will come back!

Yelp
Roy's is always a great dinner night! Perfect choice for couples date night and also birthday celebrations! Service - love that the restaurant workers all greet you as you enter. Our server was attentive, we were a bit bummed that there was no escargot on the menu for appetizer, but the server gave us an appetizer that was delish- short rib gyoza. Water and ice tea was always topped off immidiately. They also boxed our leftovers and gave us a big bag to carry it home. Atmosphere/Ambiance - they have a cute Christmas tree in the lobby. We dined early which is super nice for a sunset view but it can get bright with the sun even when the shades are down and it was a little hot, once the sun sets they open the shades which allows good lighting for pics! Food- food is always great, we had one dish that wasn't cooked to the right temperature but it was fixed immidiately. The 14 oz smoked rib eye plate is a bit messy, the dish seems to big for the plate, the steak is on top of the risotto so as you're cutting it the risotto is sliding to the edge of the plate, would have preferred it to be set on a bigger plate with the risotto on the side, the plate also has a lot of sauce not sure if it's from the steak or the kale but it got a bit messy with cutting the steak. The kids meals under 12 are amazing here they start them with a cheese quesadillas slices with grapes, celery, carrot, salad , a few choices for entree which include salmon or braised beef, and a cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert $16 the salmon was cooked perfectly! Dessert - chocolate soufflé is always amazing! No more yelp check in offer though but it's still delicious they also had a pumpkin soufflé for the season and pineapple upside down cake. Their complementary cookies and creme panna cotta was delicious too! Parking - there's lots of parking right outside the restaurant, the nearest establishment (used to be scratch kitchen/outback) is empty for now so there's tons of parking available. Thank you for a great birthday celebration dinner!

Yelp
Went there for the early weekday birthday celebration. The service was wonderful and fast. The ocean view was spectacular. We had nice cocktails, then the Crab Cakes and Pork Ribs for appetizers, and Rib Eye and a Fish Mixed Plate for main dishes. I noticed a lot of the dishes we ordered had slight spicy flavors. Although I can't take too much spicy stuff, I didn't mind since it was not overly spicy. The Crab Cakes were perfect, also the Pork Ribs were good, and the ribs got me wanting to have some white rice with it. The Rib Eyes were pretty decent with the unique corn salsa. The Fish Mixed Plate had a nice presentation and it was a wonderful idea to get to taste different fish in one plate. Since it was my early birthday celebration, they gave us the Panna Cotta. I really appreciated that, but I did tell them that I couldn't have dairy in advance. Oh well. My company enjoyed that for me, so it was all good. I thought the price was pretty reasonable especially happy hour items. I'd like to come back here again in the future.

Yelp
Consistently amazing. The staff is always professional, welcoming, and kind. George B is the best. The Misoyaki Butterfish is tender and mouth watering. The sauce it comes with is like this perfect river of buttery flavor. The Szechuan Baby Back Pork Ribs, Crispy Zucchini on bao buns, and, of course, the Chocolate Soufflé are all amazing.

Yelp
Overpriced with very small portions. Ordered the Seafood trio which was roughly about $68 Portions were really tiny compared to the price.

Yelp
Our first dinner during our stay in Oahu, we booked this place because Roy's used to be our favorite spot years ago when we visited the Big Island and Maui. The food was very good, in particular I enjoyed the blackened ahi tuna, and the family also enjoyed their picks, chirashi sushi and butterfish. We closed the dinner with the famous melted chocolate soufflé, which did not disappoint. A must have for sure. The key lime pie was not my favorite though, I would not reorder it. Service was very attentive. Highly recommended.

Yelp
It was our last night on Oahu and I love the Miso Butterfish at Roy's. So, we booked a table for 6 and watched the sun go down sitting for the first time downstairs in the dining room behind the bar. Our food was delish as usual. We order the happy hour rib appetizer and escargot. Entrees included Steak, butterfish, salmon and Ahi. Everyone was delighted with their dish. We also ordered the chocolate soufflé and vanilla ice cream for the table. As we left to go to our car we passed a couple and I recognized the man as Jon Hamm. It was a good night.

Yelp
We love Roy's! We've been to several at different locations but this was our first time going to this one. I recommend sitting upstairs so you have a nice view of the water and/ or the sunset when it's around dinner time. Outside was too hot and downstairs there's no real view. Service was great! Our waiter was super efficient and nice, and he made great recommendations. The manager also came to our table to introduce himself and he gave us some recs for our next visit. Very friendly guy! Food was great as always. We tried the fried zucchini because it sounded interesting. It was on a bao bun topped with XO sauce, and we loved it. Misoyaki butterfish is always a must. Cooked perfectly over forbidden rice. My hubby got the short ribs, the meat was so tender and fell right off. We went overboard with dessert. Got the chocolate soufflé, bread pudding, and they surprised us with a guava panna cotta for our anniversary. Soufflé was perfect, very chocolatey. Bread pudding wasn't as douchey as I would have liked but my husband loved it. Definitely a great dinner to end our Oahu trip!

Yelp
The food and drinks were phenomenal. Scottie(bartender) and Brandon (GM) were wonderful. They made our anniversary celebration a time to remember.

Yelp
"Tom, you've got to go to the original. Sure, there are a lot of 'Roy's' around, but this one is where it all started," my friend from Hawaii told me. With that in mind, here we are, on a Friday evening, eating at Roy's Hawaii Kai. The one in Waikiki we could have walked to, but we needed to go to the original. We arrived and were seated at a second-floor window seat with a breathtaking view of the bay. On this day there were many canoes out and it was nice to be able to take in the view and the canoes. Do we start with a cocktail? Yes we do...we ordered two, and both tasted great. They've got a dedicated bartender who is interested in doing a good job. I was able to watch him do a little 'in service' lesson for a group of four young men that I assumed were bussers. You are never too young or old to add to your knowledge bank, and he bartender was willing to share. Do we order the dinner tasting? Yes we do, for one, and then we add to it with a number of other items. Do we think that these are the best crab cakes we've had in our life? We do discuss the issue and suffice it to say that they were out of this world tasty and very worthy of being in the conversation around the topic. In short, we were very happy with our meal, the service, and the view, and we would encourage you to check it out. This was our first Roy's and so we can't compare it to the other outlets, but I'd be willing to try them all based on this visit. I agree with my friend. You might as well start with the standard bearer and check out the others down the road.

Yelp
Roy's Hawaii Kai in Oahu offers an unforgettable dining experience, combining excellent service with a relaxed, upscale ambiance. It was the culinary highlight of our trip to the island. Located by the marina, it's perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion, with stunning views of the ocean. The crab cakes are a standout--crispy on the outside and filled with fresh, tender crab. The hamachi crudo is light and refreshing, while the CAB filet is perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. Roy's is a must-visit for top-tier food in a beautiful setting.

Yelp
The Original Roy's is our favorite spot to celebrate our anniversary. Roy's does an excellent job of honoring our preferences in our reservation. We had the perfect table with a view of the gorgeous unobstructed sunset view. Every staff member wishes us a happy anniversary to make us feel special. Good selection of wine by the glass. A necessity for us since my husband prefers white and I prefer red. Dinner is always perfect. And, they give us a $25 gift certificate for our anniversary to help us with our next awesome meal. Everything is delicious and service from everyone is top notch

Yelp
Was really good we enjoyed it a little bit louder though had a hard time hearing my wife talk to me and other people as well but other than that, it was really good

Yelp
This restaurant checks all the boxes to give it five stars! The food is flavorsome and of high quality, service is excellent, and the environment is very enjoyable. A great place for a special occasion or if you're entertaining out of town guests and want to impress them with excellent Hawaiian fusion cuisine. I had their Classic Trio; misoyaki butterfish, macadamia nut crusted mahimahi, and blackened ahi. All tasty and cooked to perfection. Fish is hard to prepare and often overcooked, but all three were done nicely. For dessert, I had the banana sweet bread pudding with haupia sauce and caramel drizzle. It was the best. I like bread pudding, so I will order it whenever I see it on the menu. This was one of the best I've had. The pudding part was good; moist and yummy. The sauce was equally delicious and not too sweet. A really nice way to end a perfect meal!

Yelp
Always excellent service at HK Roy's! Food is always on point! Celebrated another year of love and aloha at Roy's!

Yelp
I have never been to Roy's Hawaii Kai and now I understand why. Overpriced food that did not taste good at all. I had to send back what they called a 14 oz piece of ribeye which was supposed to be medium rare which by the time it came to me was well done and dry. The second time I got my steak it was not as cooked as the first time but it lacked any seasoning or overall flavor you could tell that the steak had not been taken out to rest out of the freezer/refrigerator for an hour, that the meat was not cooked properly cooked at too high of a temperature because again the outside was overcooked and hard to cut into and the biggest no no it was not properly rested afterwards an Anthony Bourdain no no. The appetizers for the price we paid especially the dim sum for two were extremely disappointing especially in presentation, size and taste. I was not impressed. The only reason I gave Roy's a one is for Chris our waiter and Adam our server and although the manager personally delivered my re-cooked steak and took the steak off my bill he needs to address the overall quality, quantity and presentation of what his staff are serving to people I don't mind paying a high price for something if I get what I paid for. In my opinion all of the food that my party received was over priced and you certainly did not get in terms of quality or quantity what you paid for. Very disappointed and I won't ever go back to any Roy's establishment on Oahu and especially where I live on Maui.

Yelp
Went to Roy's for a wedding celebration dinner. I ordered the misoyaki butterfish with shrimp added on. The misoyaki butterfish was good as usual. This is also the first time I took my phone Staff was friendly and polite. Food came out hot. By the time we left the restaurant was pretty crowded but still not too noisy.

Yelp
If you're visiting Oahu, Hawaii and you can only go to one restaurant, I'd highly recommend that you go to the original Roy's Restaurant in Hawaii Kai. Roy's is my favorite Pacific-Asian Cuisine restaurant in Hawaii. Roy is a master of sauces, and his dishes are very tasty. I have his cookbook and he incorporates a lot of different Asian ingredients into each dish. The dishes are also cooked to perfection (not over cooked & not undercooked). I've been eating at Roy's for over 25 years, several times a year and they never disappoint. Overall: ***** Highly Recommended ***** Food: ***** Value: **** Menu: **** Ambiance: ***** Service: ***** Parking: ***** RATINGS & RECOMMENDED ORDER: Baby Back Ribs = A very tasty & fatty Crab Cakes = A Butterfish = A Braised Short Ribs = A Brussel Sprouts = A Escargot = B Rack of Lamb = B Blacked Ahi = B Caesar Salad = B Website: https://www.royyamaguchi.com/roys-hawaiikai Yelp: https://yelp.to/QIuXMPKoXz YELP: Sorry! They allow only one 12 second video & the remaining to 3 seconds, with maximum of 10 pictures/videos. The full video can be found elsewhere. RATINGS KEY: A = Really Good - one of the best B = Good - would order again C = ok - similar, nothing special D = Not very good - wouldn't order F = Terrible - avoid

Yelp
Went for a birthday and food was tasty. Service was on point which I really liked. Also it was very clean. I have only ever been to the Roy's in Honolulu but I must say I like the Hawaii Kai one more. Will be back ~

Yelp
Fine dining with a casual-friendly atmosphere. They have a seemingly informal dress code of no slippers, tank tops, or beach and workout wear. Make reservations easily online and if you choose the downstairs lounge, you can be seated indoors or outdoors to preference. Plenty of parking in the lot behind of the restaurant. Table service was on-point from menu review to water top off. The food was well done, though I'm not a fan of mushrooms being on many dishes. I would recommend the salmon with citris ponzu sauce and chocolate souffle.

Yelp
We went here for our 43rd Anniversary! The views of Kokohead and the ocean are spectacular! The 2 Hostesses are very nice, friendly and personable! I had no problem moving my 6pm reservation to 5:30pm! We hadn't been here in a long time despite living nearby! There was a nice Happy Anniversary card and spicy example already at our table which was a nice touch! My husband ordered the Deep fried Tai Snapper. It was a beautiful presentation! I usually order appetizers instead on an entree! So I ordered 2: Baked Escargot in roasted Garlic 3 Herb Butter which was delicious served with halves of toasted rolls! These were perfect for dipping! Not many restaurants serve Escargot anymore so this is "A Must" to come here and order! My other appetizer was the 2 Crispy Crab Cakes and since I don't like spicy, our server said I could get it with Beurre Blanc! Perfect! Since it was our Anniversary, we got a Complimentary Matcha Panna Cotta. Also, Yelpers, remember to Check In, so you can get a Complimentary Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle cake served with.Raspberry Coulis & Lappert's Vanilla Bean Ice Cream! I wanted to compliment the Manager, Makana, for Amazing Customer Service! He made sure to introduce himself and wish us Happy Anniversary! Also, I noticed how he was training his staff on how to set the "perfect table" including fanning the tablecloth! He must be an excellent Manager to work for! Oh, did I mention I thanked him for the Anniversary gift certificate for a future visit! Will be back! Mahalo Makana!

Yelp
Alright - Roy's. A super iconic place, renowned for being very Hawaii. We drove about an hour from Kaneohe to give it a go. The two best parts of this restaurant were the service and the food. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming - like you're coming to a good friend's house for dinner and everyone is happy for you to be there. The food portions were really impressive too. The fish was delicious and was super easy to clean. The three course meal was a great value for money I think and was super tasty; even the sauce on the rice pilaf was well balanced and thought out. The best part was the dessert at the end: cheesecake with home made marshmallows. We added tea and coffee and it was a great date night!

Yelp
We miss the Palm Desert location and knew we wanted our last dinner in Honolulu to be at Roy's. We were seated in the main dining room at an ocean-facing table. Service from beginning to end was fantastic. GM stopped by and let us know that Roy's will be opening a restaurant in Tacoma later this year!

Wayne T.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. We were seated outside on the ground level and shared an intimate meal with our daughter and her 18 month old child. The wait staff were accommodating and patient

Yelp
Our first experience at the Original Roy's and it was to celebrate Mother's Day. They offered a 3 course prefix brunch menu (different prices for each main entree). Service - just the right amount of attention. Our water glasses and coffee were kept to our liking. No extra hovering. Everything came out efficiently and the entire staff was so polite. Food - food was good. The main entrees were filling and tasty. Everyone was happy with their choice. The only part that could have been better is the dessert (yuzu strawberry shortcake) was too sweet for our liking. The sweetest part is that the moms at the table received $25 vouchers for our next visit (good for 6 months). Great way to draw business and a very thoughtful and unexpected "gift". We normally go to the Kapolei location, but are looking forward to dinner at the Original soon!

Sarah S.

Yelp
Service was excellent and attentive. We got the tasting menu and it was delicious. Fish was a little salty and overcooked but we still ate every bite. View at sunset is amazing. Do yourself a favor and get the chocolate soufflé.

Yelp
Incredible views in a place full of incredible views. We had the spring rolls. My son raved over the Hawaiian Fish, we had the salmon ... wonderful. Great ambiance and the service was top notch. The manager went out of his way to greet us. Drinks and desserts (pineapple upside down cake) very good.

Yelp
I generally try not to go to chains when I travel, especially if they are readily available in my area. I've seen this chain on the mainland and have been there a few times for local networking events, but this was my first time dining there. We were a party of 6 and were able to sit outside. We got there about an hour before sunset. They are quite thoughtful here. Our table was the most westward table, and they used a sheet that was connected to the canopy to help shield the sun from the table. Without it, it would have been blinding and hot. We ordered th Canoe Sampler to share, which included shrimp sticks, baby back ribs, spring rolls and maki The bf and I were moderately hungry and since we overate the evening before, we opted to share the Sunset Supper Prix Fix (1st Course: Shrimp stick, baby back ribs; 2nd Course: Beef short rib & Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi, and orzo "mac & cheese"; 3rd Course: hibiscus red velvet cheesecake) and a Shrimp Caesar Salad. A few people ordered the butterfish and the Ocean Trio (which included the butterfish, macadamia nut mahi mahi and blackened ahi). My brother ordered the pineapple upside down cake. We decided to celebrate my cousin and my birthday since we are September babies, and we got a chance to hang out within the month. Since this was shared when we made the reservation, they had 2 birthday hats for us and also gave us birthday desserts. This was one of the best meals I had while I was here for the week. The fish was very well cooked and flavored, the ribs were tender and tasty, and the service was awesome. I think my favorite item was the butterfish that everyone raved about. My cousin gave me a bite of his and it was delicious! The servers were very attentive. Drinks flowed as we wanted them to, dishes came out with good pacing, we got good recommendations and have a great time overall.

Yelp
Stopped by for a bday dinner and it was good, as always! Roy's has always been one of my fave places for braised beef, misoyaki butterfish, crab cakes and chocolate soufflé. During this most recent visit, we ordered the escargot, braised beef, crab cakes, rainbow crudo and drinks. The braised beef was tender, savory and packed with flavor and was paired with hearts of palm au gratin. This dish always hits the spot for me! The crab cakes were also very delicious and with the perfect amount of crisp on its outer layer. Service was great and overall the food was on point. Will be back again soon.

Yelp
Hadn't been for a long time and went with the kids (8 yo twins) for the first time ever! We were delighted! Roy's has a terrific Keiki menu. $16 for a starter with crudités and quesadilla, entree of fish, beef or pasta, and a fantastic homemade ice cream sandwich for dessert. My husband and I loved it, as always. We shared the zucchini bao bun as well as the sushi roll to start. Both were fabulous. We also shared the 3-fish sampler - divine!!! Blackened ahi, Mac nut crusted mahi mahi, and miso butterfish all on one platter, yum!!! I told them it was my husband's birthday so they had a birthday hat waiting and gifted us with a lovely hibiscus pana cotta for dessert. That said, nothing will ever beat the chocolate lava cake!

Yelp
Everything was as good as I remembered. Attentive staff and manager. I did not mention we were celebrating our anniversary and they quickly put together something for us.

Yelp
Consistently provides great service & food! Our favorite place to bring visiting mainland friends and to celebrate special occasions!

Yelp
This place is amazing. The service was out of this world. I came here to celebrate my 21st and a BIG shout out to my sever was Scott K, he was actually the best, if someone were to have a bad day he could totally flip it around. Would totally recommend this for others and would come back. Food was so good too, stuffed myself with edamame, best edamame I have ever had, the fish and ribs were delicious too.

Yelp
Happy hour is a great deal for delicious food. Service is 5 stars. Very romantic ambiance ocean views with views of the sunset.

Yelp
When we found out that this is THE original Roy's, we just had to try it out. We pass by this establishment almost every single day and we just wanted to see what it was about. It appears that there are certain bus/tour groups that dine here as well; we saw a few bus loads of people that were dropped off and coming in. Parking: ample, self-parking, free Service: 5/5 friendly, attentive, efficient, and quick Ambiance: beautiful view of the outside and overlooking the ocean Food: They had quite a menu to choose from. We decided on the prix fixe menu to share and ordered appetizers on the side. The portions are huge and this was a great deal. Their Keiki/Kids menu is fantastic too- comes with vegetables, quesadilla, entree, drink, and ice cream. The server was attentive to the needs of our family dining and brought out the kids quesadilla and vegetables even before ordering everything else! What service!

Yelp
Always enjoyable with good food with good friends for birthdays and friends visiting. Recommended to save room for some chocolate souffle.

Yelp
I'm going to start with I had a good time at the restaurant... the food quality was great , for me, flavor was lacking. The ambiance was nice clean ... now I get to service they are trained... but they hover way too much, walking over to take dish away almost any time I put my utensil down. Had to wave them off as I was not finished .. this happened a few too many times ... this is better than being ignored, but I need balance ... all in all, it was a good experience. I might try again as my friend loves the dessert... that was the highlight of the evening...

Yelp
The food was so delicious and the service excellent as usual. Our waiter, Kalena was very welcoming and personable and explained the specials thoroughly. Brandon the manager checked on us to make sure everything was going well.

Yelp
My friend took me to Roy's Hawaii Kai for a birthday dinner. It was my first time trying Roy's. I liked the ambiance with spectacular views of the ocean. I was greeted with a birthday hat, and the staff came up to the table to wish me a happy birthday. I loved how they have a vegetarian menu with options to make the dishes vegan. Based of the waiter's recommendation, I ordered the Crispy Zucchini Bao Bun as an appetizer and the Mongolian Style Stir-Fry. The Bao Bun was delicious and the crispy zucchini paired nicely with the bun to balance the flavors. As for the main course, the portion size was huge. Unfortunately, I could only take a few bites because it was incredibly salty. Even my friend tasted it and said it had too much salt. This was my first time ever returning food. The staff was nice and prepared another stir-fry dish that had less salt. They even said if I didn't like it, they could bring me something else. The second attempt came out better but I would probably try a different dish next time I'm back. They gave us a complimentary panna cotta for the birthday desert. We also ordered the Roy's Chocolate Soufflé. Both were delicious. The soufflé was warm and very sweet, and it went well with the ice cream. Service was good. They always filled our water and checked up on us, and to make sure I was okay with the second stir-fry dish.

Yelp
Beautiful view, great service, fantastic variety of food and very tasty. Worth the trip from Waikiki and near Hanuama bay.

Yelp
Had high expectations because we were suggested to come here by a local and Roy's more than delivered. Beginning with the service, they literally don't let your water glass get below 1 inch emptied. The wait staff is observant, helpful, and courteous. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Upscale, yet still beachy, with breathtaking sunset views. The food was incredible as well. I ordered their special, which was a fish sampler and all of the dishes were cooked flawlessly and tasted so clean and delicious. The rest of the table was very pleased with their choices as well. We went for a birthday, and they made sure to make it special for all of us.

Yelp
I typically go to every Christmas Day for dinner here, even since my maternal grandmother passed away in May 2022. The service is great. I recommend their hoisin shortribs and rack of lamb. I like the ambiance. I wish we could go here more often if it wasn't so expensive.

Yelp
Came by tonight to celebrate my birthday with my husband, I've eaten here many times over the course of many years, but this was my husband's first time. I've told him about how much I love their misoyaki-butterfish, and he thought I was just overhyping it. But he tried it and he was "wowed" by how good it was. We ordered the dim sum style canoe for two appetizers, and I got the misoyaki-butterfish, of course, while he got the Prix fixe menu. We pretty much devoured our food, and he loved his entree. He said it was the best fish he had ever tasted. We ended the dinner with the chocolate souffle and cheesecake, and they gave me a complimentary panna cotta for my birthday. We also were seated by the bar, I meant to reserve a table, but I accidentally pressed bar seating. The bartender was our waiter, and he was great. He was really nice and attentive. I didn't want to drink because I had to drive us home, so he offered mocktail versions of the cocktails, which was really nice. We had a great time, and we will definitely be back sometime!

Yelp
Came here for a my 26th Birthday Celebration and had a great experience. The Service was nice but they were really quick to just serve and leave, there was no connection made between us and the server like most fine dining places. It was my first time here & hear lots of great reviews although it felt like a very casual fine dining experience. Definitely nothing like Hy's or Mortons. The food did taste amazing! Roy is a fantastic Chef and I had no doubt about his menu. We absolutely love eating house 1849 ;') We are going to try out Roy's Waikiki soon so super excited for that. Overall experience was Okay but can't wait to check out their Waikiki location.

Yelp
On the fancy side for Hawaii, the atmosphere is a bit mainstream/corporate, the food is typical nicer Hawaiian/American with obviously more tropical fishes such as butterfish. Vibe works out well, with a bit less generic feel if you're outside soaking in the great Honolulu weather, down to just a handful of tiki torches as to not feel too generic nor too cliche. And they did a solid job handling the various special occasions we were celebrating. Service and food was mostly well-intentioned but fell short of good due to a few hitches... during ordering, they had to check, and found they ran out of ribeyes. Surprising but the shortrib was a workable substitute. More disappointing was we ordered two of the whole Tai snapper, and it wasn't til all the food was brought out that only one whole Tai snapper showed up, and we were told they had run out, and would we like to substitute? They subbed in (with permission) I think it was three mahi mahi filets for the second whole Tai snapper, but the sauce that was below the mahi mahi and noodles was disappointingly salty, like it was mostly soy sauce.
