This is a Galway Bay Brewery pub. For many years they were plentiful in Dublin however that’s changed in recent years so it’s nice to go to one of their original pubs in their home county. The disadvantage of been a craft beer drinker is that you’ve had everything on offer already before you drink in these places. The one beer I wanted to try is the tap in picture and unfortunately the barman said they only had one Keg of it & there was none left. I went for a brown ale in the end. I can’t comment on the food but I’ve had their food many times over the years in the late Against the Grain.

Came here on a quiet Wednesday for lunch and a quick pint after walking around Salthill. Lunch was nice, pulled pork sandwich was really lovely but just felt like it was missing something small. Good service. Pub looks great and decorated really well! I can only imagine what a night out is like here!

Google
Perfectly enjoyable bar, with average pub food. The inside is much larger than it looks from the street, with a lot of cozy nooks for tables and a beer hall and projector screen in the back. There’s a long tap list with lots of interesting Irish and imported beers, but the food is only okay. Some great items, some average, some downright bad (undercooked fries?). If you’re expected a classic pub experience, this is a pretty good one.

Great little spot. Good variety of beers and excellent vegetarian options. Such friendly staff. Bless them for putting lentils and rice on the kids menu - and for only €5. Genuinely a parent’s dream.

We have stopped there during our trip on Galway as this bar was pet friendly. We weren't sure if we could go inside with our furry friend but that wasn't a problem 🙃 Staff were very nice and food also very tasty ( big portions). See pictures - Elvis burger with huge portion of chips and Cesar salad.

Good food and great craft brew options especially from Galway Bay Brewery. Lots of seating available inside. Distillery available in the back.

The building itself is great—modern, clean, and conveniently close to several hotels. It looks like the kind of place that has its act together. Unfortunately, once you walk in, the cracks start to show. The biggest issue here? Communication. Or rather, the complete lack of it. There’s no host stand, no signage saying “Please wait to be seated,” no clear system whatsoever. You walk in and just… hope for the best. We wandered around awkwardly for a bit before deciding to just sit down and see what happened. What happened was this: we were approached by multiple servers, all asking for our order like it was a group project nobody wanted to lead. We ordered starters. Twenty minutes later, a server returned—not with food, but to let us know the starters never got put in. They asked if we still wanted them, but by that point, we’d already ordered mains with a different waiter. We were told the mains would be out soon, so we just skipped the apps. Well, “soon” turned out to be 30 more minutes. When the food did finally arrive, it was underwhelming at best. The pasta was bland, and the chicken had clearly been left unattended in a pan a little too long—dry on one side. Not exactly what you’d expect after a nearly hour-long wait. To be fair, the staff were friendly, just not on the same page. It all felt unorganized, like a restaurant with potential that’s missing some basic structure and leadership. If you’re in the area and just want a quick bite with the family, I’d think twice. There are better spots in Galway where you’ll get faster service, clearer communication, and a plate of food that doesn’t make you wish you skipped straight to dessert.

I LOVE this place. We stopped for lunch - my wife and 2 little girls (3 & 5). First of all, the kids menu is huge and great! Both of the girls ate something, which is rare. I had the small (haha) mussel bowl which was not small at all, and the buffalo chicken burger. Pro-tip: They use dark meat in this burger. At first, I thought my chicken was under-cooked, but the head chef reassured me that it was properly cooked - it's been quite a few hours, and I'm not yet ill. They also advised me that they get this concern quite often, and they were not afraid to talk it out or even swap it for a white meat cutlet. I don't suggest that though... The dark meat is delicious! Our waitress was AMAZING! So prompt, friendly and jovial. She knew all about every beer on the list (and that's not an easy task here.). The beer list is absolutely massive. They have something for every taste, even local craft brews. Stunning experience. This place is on my "Return here when in Ireland" list, and it should be on yours also.

Yelp
Hit the spot when we needed it. Mostly standard pub food. We are supper and had a pint of cider.

Yelp
Another solid offering by Bay City Brewing!! This location happens to offer food, their signature excellent draft list an oversized sports viewing room and projection that happened to be showing NFL highlights when we arrived!! The Fisherman's Pie was spot on with small salad on the side!! Located next to Upper Salt Hill and so conveniently located below the Quay Street and bar District.. definitely a worthy stop!

Yelp
One of Galway Bay Breweries restaurants that we happened upon. The staff was friendly, very attentive and informative. The GBB beers we tried were all delicious and the Irish Stew was the best we ate while in Galway! Lots of tables inside and out and bar seating available. We got there for a late lunch and it wasn't busy but by the time we left, it was. I enjoyed all of the Christmas decorations.

Yelp
Very spacious and chill place to drop in for a pint if you are strolling along the Salthill Promenade. They have 27 - yes, count them, *27* varieties of beer on tap to try from. Beers rotate in and out like most microbreweries, but they always have a good selection of brews from Galway Bay Brewing Company (they had 10 on the day I visited). I was told that even though the beer isn't brewed here, they are owned by Galway Brewing. They have everything from stouts, IPAs, malty red ales, lagers, cider, dunkels, weisse, helles, and even a sour that I saw on tap. If you can't find a beer you like here, you need to move away from the keg and start drinking wine my friend. The selection is THAT awesome here! I didn't eat here, but their food menu sure looked tasty - a notch above your typical bar food. After all, this is billed as a gastro pub. They have pool tables, and foosball tables in the back, with a large projector screen for watching the sports games. PLENTY of seating in the back area near the TV and pool tables. Even an outdoor patio. I would recommend this as your first stop on the Salthill Promenade.

Yelp
Nice friendly pub which is the flagship of the Galway Bay Brewery. I got a lot of help choosing a flight of stouts and porters with the genius touch of a (sour) black berlinerweisse, made from the same malts and suggested as a useful palate cleanser - and it absolutely made me appreciate the other beers so much more. The GBB milk stout and smoky porter are both excellent in my opinion, although served colder than I'm used to. This is a great place to head to after a walk along the seafront from Galway to Salthill and not only does it have the full GBB range but also many great guest ales from other Irish breweries. I doubt it's a destination restaurant (I didn't eat) but it's nice to have a food option in a good pub where the ales are still top priority.

Yelp
By far this was our favorite place in Galway! The staff was completely outstanding. We only stopped by to get a drink and ended up getting a couple of drinks and ordered food. The Bartender and the Manager gave us directions of what to do in Dublin. It was trivia night and the bar got crushed with orders. It was amazing to see how they handled the business and had fun while entertaining the customers. They completely represented the soul of Ireland. If you are even in Galway and you don't go here, you have lost 100%. This is the place to go.

Yelp
I did not know this going but the pub is owned by Galway Bay Brewery. Many great beers on tap (I enjoyed their lager). Food was excellent, one of the top seafood chowders I've ever tried. Wings were flavorful (the "small" portion is like 10 wings). Chips were crisp and fresh. They have billiards and play rugby on the multiple televisions. Must try if you're in Galway.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch. They have a huge selection of beers on tap that are made by Galway Bay Brewing. They had at least 10 of their own. I had an amber that was pretty good and was a little on the hoppy side compared to most other Irish beers. For food I had a pulled pork sandwich. It was pretty tasty. The pork wasn't dry and had a mayonnaise/aioli sauce. It also came with chips. It was a pretty good lunch spot with good beers!

Yelp
The Oslo is a brewpub located in Upper Salthill. The brewery itself goes by the name Bay Brewery. Up front is an eclectic mix of furniture and an open fire. The bar is in the middle section and in the back is where most of the space is located as well as a huge screen. Tuesday nights are movie nights where the screen is used to good effect and there are weekly open mic nights. There is a staggering number of beer from Irish and world Microbreweries along with their own house beers of which there are currently two. An ale and a lager (surprisingly tasty for a lager). A massive bottle selection is also available. Wine lovers are not forgotten either. There is also food available which is quite frankly delicious and worth going to even if you are not drinking. The whole place is clean and very well run. The only downside is that they do not serve lunch till 1pm so if you go in there at 12:30 you will only be offered breakfast. The name "Oslo" comes from the fact that it is the former site of The Oslo hotel and nothing to do with Norway. They celebrated their first birthday on Friday the 13th of August 2010 and had a ghoulish Halloween style party to celebrate. A visit to Galway is not complete without a visit to this place. There is also a beer garden for smokers and sunny days.

Yelp
That's the place where you should go after a long walk from Galway City centre to Salthill. Not really a place to sit outside as the area on the street is tiny and not very inviting also. But inside isn't a quite nice, traditional and definitely spacious! A huge pub with a large screen to see soccer, rugby or hurling matches.. The beer is the most important thing in this place. Micro Brewery in Galway, many international beers and beers you wouldn't get in every pub - the food is also good - pub god with quality!

Yelp
What a great pub. Great atmosphere to the place and the bartender was extra helpful taking his time to pour the beers and bringing them to our table instead of us waiting at the bar. The menu was really interesting. We shared some Quesadillas, Lentil Dahl and thick chips. It was top notch as were their selection of beers beyond ones that we ordered. I already knew at this stage that their own beers are great having had them elsewhere (pub is owned by the Galway Bay Brewery) so I had Trouble Brewing Oh Yeah American Black Ale which also did not disappoint! Large area at the back with a big screen where they can show a film. I love that this pub is so different to the Salt House but that they are both so awesome. Galway Bay brewery clearly know more than just how to brew some cracking ales.

Yelp
Met up with some friends here while on holiday. It was perfect. Great atmosphere for a casual dinner with friends. I loved their Full Sail IPA. (And the samples of the various local brews my friends had- including a delightful cider). My fish and chips were the best I've had...ever. I would recommend it because the fish was thick and not too fishy, the batter was tasty and not too think, and the chips were very potatoey (not just fried and soggy). Tarter sauce and mushy peas were fabulous also.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Service in the bar was good enough, and a great location for watching sports on the prom. Sadly though my pasta I ordered basically tasted like a tomato sauce straight out of a can. Lucky I was very hungry or I'd have honestly left it. Overall experience wasn't completely horrible but I won't be back.

Yelp
We are visiting from the states and happy to find a brewery with craft beers. We enjoyed both the brew and food. Full lineup of beers are all solid, these would sell in the states. IPA, rotating experimental tap, porter and stouts all top-notch. Good selection of guest drafts, too. As their slogan reads: "No Crap on Tap" and they live up to it. Food was well above standard pub fare, try gastropub quality. Seafood chowder one of the best I've had in Ireland.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bar. I made friends my first day in Galway just hanging around The Oslo for a couple of hours. Alan is a hero and a local legend around Salt Hill, and for good reason. The man truly treats all of his guests like old friends. If you ask him nicely (or not particularly nicely at all) he'll probably take you out for a pint and a whisky around the corner after he's off. Joan Didion said, "You have to pick the places you don't walk away from." When in Galway, The Oslo is that place.

kelsie v.

Yelp
Ate dinner here after walking down the salt hill promenade. The chowder is AMAZING, huge chunks of salmon and white fish with chunks of bacon. The menu description doesn't do it justice, so good! My boyfriend got the fish and chips and it was really good as well. They also have a great selection of craft beers and do flights. Just ask the bartender or your waitress and they will help you out.
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
Tried seafood chowder at 3 establishments in the area and this is by far the best!!! Going to have to try to find imported Galway Bay beers when I get home too!
google avatar

Yelp
We walked into Oslo at noon and left at 4! What a great spot for craft beer! The Galway Bay brewery owns this establishment. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. Alan and his staff provided superior service. Food was great and the beers are excellent. We truly enjoyed having local quality craft beer. Niall, one of the owners took time out of his day to chat for a good amount of time and we even were able to learn about all the local whiskeys. If you like great beer and want that friendly craft beer welcome visit this place. Bonus it's a beach town!
google avatar

Colby C.

Yelp
Great place in Salthill for dinner and drinks. Amazing craft brew selection including local Galway Bay Brewery beers. Great selection of food both traditional Irish as well as mix of other types. Good vibe with some music playing. Definitely a must!
google avatar

Bevin M.

Yelp
The Oslo is a really cute restaurant/pub in Salthill just minutes from downtown Galway. Our B&B proprietor recommended it to us and he wasn't wrong. We were most nervous about eating in Galway since I didn't see a lot of vegetarian restaurants online. I had the lentil burger with fries. It had a nice touch of spice but was a bit dry and kept falling apart. There wasn't enough of the condiment, but they brought me some pickled relish and it helped a lot. I also tried the house ale- really yummy! My sister ate the Plowman's sandwich, which we were surprised to hear was vegetarian! Yummy cheddar cheese on foccacia. The atmostphere is relaxed and laid back, but once we got our food we never saw our waitress again. I would have liked another beer, not had to chase her down. Overall, I would probably come back. At least I know there are things I can eat there!
google avatar

Carrie C.

Yelp
As a micro brewery, it doesn't cut it. Most of the good options are bottled and can be purchased 2 doors down. The staff knows nothing about beer and also has no minute to minute recall-can only remember one beer at a time. Shall I also mention that she doesn't seem to know how to pour. Now on the the food, tasteless fried garbage with no skill or compliment worthy attributes. Make sure there is salt at your table as it will be your only seasoning. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
You want the best of craft beers, they brew their own beers offsite. Or you want the best of commercial beers from Ayinger, Founders, to Delirium... Oslo is pouring it. GO DRINK AND ENJOY!
google avatar

Guy K.

Yelp
Great local to relax in. Fantastic selection of Galway Bay beers as well as other craft beers. Staff is engaging and happy to share the vast array of beer on tap. Felt like a local for sure
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
I try not to have too high of expectations knowing I come from an area with great food, but this was just not good food. Bone in the fish even. Beer was ok, but wouldn't go back for it.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Visited here on a rainy day while on vacation. Really solid beer line up. Lots of crafts of their own and from around Ireland and a few from the US. Atmosphere was friendly and the beer was reasonably cheap. I had the falafel burger and my fiance had the hummus salad and we were very pleased with both amount and price. Definitely a good stop!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
IPAs in Ireland? Yes please! We spent a few hours here. We stuck with the local beers, but there were lots of American options as well. We really loved the Galway Bay Full Sail IPA. For food, we had the wings and the roast beef sandwich. We enjoyed it all, especially the chips! It was a great place to spend a few hours after a long walk to Salthill.
google avatar

Leigh W.

Yelp
The Oslo is excellent - part of a "chain" of restaurants in Galway. If you're in town for a while I suggest getting a punch card (I think it's buy 10 pints get one free.) I had the falafel burger with chips, very tasty. If you like craft beer you'll love The Oslo. The weather was great when we were there and we ate outside, great spot to people watch and catch a glimpse of Galway Bay.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
The Oslo in Salthill boasts a chilled atmosphere of extraordinate proportions which means its the perfect spot to catch a craft pint on a fine west coast summers days. The mismatched furniture and quirky signs on the walls add that air of kitsch. Their fine collection of different Jenga board games makes it feel as though your spending time in a friends gaf while you sip on a brew. The staff here are super friendly and helpful plus it helps the place brews it's own beer. The only pitfall to this amazing spot is it's chowders inability to ever cool down. Out of 10 of us that were there that day, 7 of us ordered the chowder and it didn't go below roasting hot through the course of an hour which made it impossible to eat. The other food on the lunch menu looked appetizing so next time I'm down I'll explore the other menu options. All in all a great spot for drinks on a sunny day!
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
I have been to the Oslo twice now and was always very happy. This place has craft beers coming out of it's ears and that includes a good few GF options and so does the menu. They show all major football games and have lots of comfy seating.

Megan C.

Yelp
I visited Galway with some friends on our tour around Ireland. We visited The Oslo for dinner and beers one evening! The waitress was extremely helpful in recommending beers. We enjoyed the Gypsy White Blonde and their Pilsner. We had the Fish and Chips and thought it was excellent! The place had a fun and family friendly vibe at the time we were there. I definitely would recommend it!
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
We visited the Oslo early Saturday evening before 9. Lots of other families were there obviously to eat. Nice big open seating arrangements. It was almost full but wasnt noisy. Children and adult only tables were enjoying playing the board games supplied by the pub. We were not very adventurous in our menu selection and just went for different burgers and chips. But very very tasty.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Really cool and comfy place for a laid-back meal. They have a large and interesting variety of beers with a focus on craft. The food won't disappoint you, the staff is very friendly and the prices fair. A good pick for a casual night out.
google avatar

Randy I.

Yelp
Unexpected. Don't let casual decor fool you. Typical bar food not found here, higher cut of everything. Outstanding.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
This place has excellent food and great service. I had a wonderful cheese platter with three different Irish cheeses and a delicious cauliflower and blue cheese soup with brown bread. My husband loved his beef stew and craft beer. I'm taking away a star, however, for the fact that their menu doesn't identify allergens. My kids ordered the berry crumble which turned out to have hazelnuts in it--a delicious but unusual addition to a crumble. My son is deathly allergic to nuts so we had to inject him with epinephrine as soon as I tasted the crumble. Hopefully they can get the menus properly labelled. So eat here, but be extra careful with food allergies!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
It was nice to find a bar with micro brews and craft beers rather than the standard Guinness/Smithwicks/Budweiser on tap. Across the street you can play arcade games!

Miriam K.

Yelp
It might look attractive on the menu, but this place is the most unattractive and mismanaged business ever. I have seen clients being given out to for no reason, staff being rude to customers and the manager has such unprofessionalism that he should not be allowed to deal with the public. The atmosphere is tensed and you feel you bother the staff by your presence. I was invited to a private party twice there: once the staff had made a mistake and there was another booking on the same night (our party was cancelled). The second time they had forgotten the booking altogether and started giving out to our organiser!!! In times of crisis, when people should come back to values such as respect, generosity and friendliness, the manager and staff of this place definitely get a big "no no". People should avoid places like that...

Lynda S.

Yelp
Just back from Galway and paid a visit to this pub. I will not be back. The service was terrible. We waited ages to get served at the bar. We were left standing there and ignored by barstaff. Eventually got a drink. Then I ordered and paid for another round of drinks and took one drink with me and sat down. I presumed my Guinness would be dropped down to my table when it was ready - table was right beside the bar....but no ...it was left on the bar and the barman didn't even tell me it was there. What a lazy barman. Really bad customer service and staff with a bad attitude. Will definitely not be back.

Pat K.

Yelp
Great beer, good food! Love the open fire! Alan is very knowledgable. Waitstaff is a. It slow.
google avatar

Michele H.

Yelp
nice micro brewery selection, good food and friendly staff. would recommend this is a must visit spot.

Dee B.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and good location but not worthy of a gastro pub title. The food was just okay and quite pricey for what you get.. What was most disappointing is that we visited during a microbrew special event over a bank holiday weekend, and everything we tried from the beer menu was disappointing. Go for the atmosphere and regular beer menu.
