This is a beautiful lodge in a quiet corner of Kruger. This was our second Safari of our trip after visiting a private game reserve in the Timbavati.||The Rooms|It's hard to rate the rooms – I think your experience will be determined by the weather during your stay. You're either going to absolutely love these rooms or you’re going to find them uncomfortable. The rooms are wide open on three sides when the blinds are up, which offer amazing views, and you can really hear the surrounding forest in the evenings. The blinds are significant, and offer privacy when they are down, but the rooms do not have air conditioning and on a hot day you will need to keep them up and hope for a breeze. It reached 40c during our stay and the rooms were very hot and we found it hard to sleep in the heat. On another night, it was really windy, and the blinds rattled extensively. We were initially worried about bugs given the open concept rooms, but we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitoes and other bugs in September.||The Drives|This area of Kruger is very different from the south and offers amazing scenes, forests, mountains and rivers. The wildlife is a lot less dense than what we experienced in the southern part of the park and as a result the drives are longer. Expect to spend 4-5 hours in the morning and 3-4 in the afternoons driving to areas to seek the wildlife. Because this is Kruger, you can’t offroad like you can at the private reserves so you will want binoculars as you’re not going to get as close to the animals. You should also be aware that its less likely that you will see all the big 5 in this part of the park , Lions especially are an unlikely sighting||The Food & Service|The outpost really excels in food and service. Lots of variety of food options, friendly and amazing service, particularly from our Butler Rosta, and every meal was amazing. The staff really go above and beyond to learn your names and make you feel special.||Overall, this is a really unique experience and despite the weather we had a great stay. It’s worth the drive to this area just for the scenery alone, just be prepared for the weather as you are exposed to the elements in these rooms. If you’re really keen to see the big 5, this probably shouldn’t be your first choice.

Wow. Incredible. Spectacular. I cannot recommend this remote hidden gem, highly enough. My guide Keagan was incredible! You can request him. And Delight, Nurse and all of the staff made it truly special. From the privacy to the unique and perfectly equipped rooms. I had a wonderful stay! Warning: it gets hot in Northern Kruger. The vastness of the park is worth it but the summer months of Nov-Feb will be intense. Be prepared, air conditioning is a luxury that can’t run in an off grid truly environmentally friendly location like this in the southern African bush. If you’re looking for a taste of authentic wild. This is it. Again, incredible! Worth the trek (long journey) as we 🇿🇦’s say.

Huge thanks to The Outpost and their amazing team for such a special stay. From the warm welcome to the delicious food (those lamb chops and the dreamy cauliflower steak!), everything was perfect.||The setting is breathtaking—dassies on the path, sunsets by the river, and waking up to sunrise from bed. Our guide Christa brought the bush to life with her passion and knowledge. We especially loved learning about the ancient baobab trees that give this landscape such character and presence.||A real highlight was the Sound Safari—layered onto the traditional game drive, it gave us a deeper connection to the bush. With headphones on and a long-range mic picking up every rustle, grunt, and distant call, we discovered a whole hidden world of wildlife communication. The bush is alive with sound—you just have to know how to listen||The private boma dinner was a beautiful surprise—romantic and memorable. Even one night here felt like a true escape. The Outpost has soul!

We had the most wonderful time when we went for a birthday celebration to The Outpost. From the moment we arrived we received the best service from the most friendly and helpful staff. Food was amazing. Game drives were made special with our ranger sharing his knowledge. Can't wait to return. Thank you to all at The Outpost.

The views were absolutely breathtaking. The staff was exceptional—professional, warm, and truly high class across the board. The service was seamless from start to finish.||||Our guide, Christa, was nothing short of outstanding. She went above and beyond anything we expected and truly made our stay unforgettable. She was the highlight of an already incredible experience.||||We slept better than we have in ages, and every detail felt thoughtfully curated. Honestly, this lodge deserves far more recognition than it currently gets. It was truly a spectacular stay in every sense.||

Beautiful lodge in the middle of the South African bush. You get the full experience of being in the Kruger no matter how long you stay. The staff are the kindest and the most competent I've had in a really long time. The rooms are beautiful with magnificent views. Felt sad leaving.

Spectacular views from the beautiful rooms make this a wonderful place to come and enjoy a peaceful breakaway. As in the North of Kruger do not expect to see an abundance of wildlife like the Big 5… but other gems like aardvark, Civit, birds and a beautiful diverse variety of scenery on your game drives. Very Knowledgeable guides and fantastic staff, food and service. thank you Outpost!
