The Outpost Lodge, in Kruger National Park

Our family had an absolutely amazing Christmas stay at Pel’s Post at The Outpost. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel right at home with thoughtful, personal gestures that made the holiday feel truly special. A huge thank you to Edna for her incredible care and attention, and to Brett, a wonderful game ranger who went out of his way to ensure we had unforgettable wildlife sightings. Thank you to the wonderful managers Kerry and Kevan. We cannot forget the quality and beautifully made food by the wonderful cooks. Every staff member, from massage therapists to housekeepers and maintenance workers were attentive. The location was perfect, but the rooms were the real highlight—they were organized to perfection. It felt exactly like sleeping under the stars, surrounded by nature, but from the comfort of our bed. It was the perfect blend of being immersed in nature while enjoying total luxury. It was a magical experience we’ll never forget! We hope to be back one day.

September 2025: Our South Africa adventure was a bucket list trip for us and our time at The Outpost will be forever in our memories. This was the second safari in our trip. We had spent four nights in the Timbavati area and then travelled north to The Outpost. The experience between the two areas can't be compared. The landscape topography of the northern Kruger area is spectacular and the design of The Outpost lodge and rooms gives you the best opportunity to take it all in. The safari drives afforded a different experience than in the plains. While you don't get as close to the wild life in Kruger (at least in our experience), patience is rewarded with elephant breeding herds, zebras, antelope and so much more. What set this area apart for us was the bird life and the landscape. From Crooks Corner to the fever tree forest to Lanner Gorge and everywhere in between, the views were so varied and stunning.

This place feels like a hidden gem in the less “popular” northern Kruger. From arrival to departure the service was first class and the safaris did not disappoint! ||The rooms have amazing views and feel like they are part of the environment. The food was incredible and the staff were like family.||This was our first safari, so we don’t have a benchmark to compare against, but we do know that the bar has been set high for future adventures. Hats off to Ashleigh, Dylan and the entire team for making the Outpost such a wonderful place!

This is a beautiful lodge in a quiet corner of Kruger. This was our second Safari of our trip after visiting a private game reserve in the Timbavati.||The Rooms|It's hard to rate the rooms – I think your experience will be determined by the weather during your stay. You're either going to absolutely love these rooms or you’re going to find them uncomfortable. The rooms are wide open on three sides when the blinds are up, which offer amazing views, and you can really hear the surrounding forest in the evenings. The blinds are significant, and offer privacy when they are down, but the rooms do not have air conditioning and on a hot day you will need to keep them up and hope for a breeze. It reached 40c during our stay and the rooms were very hot and we found it hard to sleep in the heat. On another night, it was really windy, and the blinds rattled extensively. We were initially worried about bugs given the open concept rooms, but we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitoes and other bugs in September.||The Drives|This area of Kruger is very different from the south and offers amazing scenes, forests, mountains and rivers. The wildlife is a lot less dense than what we experienced in the southern part of the park and as a result the drives are longer. Expect to spend 4-5 hours in the morning and 3-4 in the afternoons driving to areas to seek the wildlife. Because this is Kruger, you can’t offroad like you can at the private reserves so you will want binoculars as you’re not going to get as close to the animals. You should also be aware that its less likely that you will see all the big 5 in this part of the park , Lions especially are an unlikely sighting||The Food & Service|The outpost really excels in food and service. Lots of variety of food options, friendly and amazing service, particularly from our Butler Rosta, and every meal was amazing. The staff really go above and beyond to learn your names and make you feel special.||Overall, this is a really unique experience and despite the weather we had a great stay. It’s worth the drive to this area just for the scenery alone, just be prepared for the weather as you are exposed to the elements in these rooms. If you’re really keen to see the big 5, this probably shouldn’t be your first choice.

The Outpost impresses with its unique location, especially the honeymoon suite Room 12. We look back on an unforgettable holiday. The guide Drikus is world-class. He is like an encyclopedia and had an answer to every question. But it is not only his expertise, but also his kind and loving nature that defines him.Our server Nompie anticipated our every wish. She is super friendly, loves her job, and is the most attentive server we have ever had in our lives.All the other staff members are also perfect and made our stay unforgettable.

Wonderful accommodation. If you love trees, birdlife and beautiful scenery this is the place! The baobab trees and nyala berry trees are just amazing. The accommodation is beautiful with gentle lovely service, lovely food. The views from the lodge are stunning, and every need is catered for.

I had a minor accident (my own fault) that required immediate hospitalization. A management representative and staff member drove me in the dark to a hospital two and a half hours away. There was another hospital closer, but I would have received better treatment at the one we went to. They stayed at the hospital (for a few hours) until my treatment was complete. Afterward, we drove another two and a half hours back, arriving back at camp early the next morning.||... more than excellent service.

We had such a great time at The Outpost. The staff were fantastic and the location and views, a piece of heaven on earth. The service, food and drinks were absolutely amazing. Although the heat is relentless, everything else makes up a thousand times over.
