"The Outrage, a female-founded shop on 14th Street NW, is opening a membership-driven cafe, bar, and community space in the back of its building by the end of April. Known for its apparel supporting various resistance movements, the store is a popular gathering spot before marches on the National Mall. The new 100-seat space will offer a safe environment to discuss issues like climate change and wage disparities. It will serve self-serve coffee and tea during the day and transform into a bar at night, featuring local female and minority-owned alcohol brands. The space will also host events like Feminism Fridays and political panels, with portions of sales going to causes such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU." - Tierney Plumb

What can we say? We love a Black-allied business that promotes equality and justice for all. We stopped by The Outrage while they hosted a Black business market for Christmas in coordination with the good people running Melanade Stand.\ It. Was. Poppin! Not only were there a ton of Black businesses at the pop up with products supporting physical and emotional wellness, vegan delicacies, handmade giftables and more–we also splurged a bit on dope James Baldwin candles, feminist pins, John Lewis memorabilia and more. We're biased towards The Outrage–we've a longstanding relationship with the outstanding work they do. BUT– We'd be remiss if we didn't objectively commend them as a paragon for "Black-allied businesses" that we look to host and support as we launch in the upcoming months! We highly recommend popping by for a visit at your next Washington DC excursion in search of boutique unique goods and gifts for your friends, family, or even to rock yourself.

A friend of mine told me to go here. I’m so glad I made the trip in between meetings. Such a freaking cute spot for all things social/racial/economic justice related. Picked up some shirts, postcards, pins, stickers and playing cards. My son loved the Black Heroes go fish game I bought him. I love supporting small business and especially this place because of their mission and the fact that a portion of sales goes to fundraising that is dear to my heart! So glad I went because I was able to get the perfect shirt for the march to Supreme Court the next day!

I literally purchased a shirt today that reads "Plank like RBG." Epic. This is a great establishment with an awesome mission.

Good shop with a very empowering theme. I hope that the items are made sustainably but other than that a good shop for feminists. Many different items such as books, water bottles, badges, stickers, key rings, T-shirt’s and also items for children and dogs. Staff were friendly and approachable. Only downside was that the prices for apparel such as hoodies and T-shirt’s weren’t labelled that meant that you had to ask a staff memberq. Good space at the back for events. It looked like there was a refill station for water bottles but this didn’t appear to be plugged in. Good place to get gifts for feminist friends. Also had a good array of books covering topics from the civil rights movements to lgbt stars. Would recommend.

I wear my RESIST sweatpants all the time, I was given a RESIST beanie and a beautiful jewelry dish from a friend; I swing through here all the time to see what new gems they have in stock! I'm also a member of the community space which has come in so handy. I love this place.

Amazing little shop with a good selection of merch to stand for your beliefs! Staff was helpful and kind. I wish there was something like this where I came from!

Incredible place. I walked in with a screaming baby that needed to nurse and the women at The Outrage were the kindest people. They offered me water and snacks, a place to comfortably nurse my baby and spent time with me. I can’t wait to spend more time there!

CAUTION: Although I support Outrage’s mission and products, I suggest visiting this retailer in person if at all possible. Not only was my order not filled in a timely manner but the shipper (USPS) lost it. As a customer you have no option to select your own shipper and I would never use USPS if I had a choice. As a retailer, unlike any other retailer I have ever dealt with, Outrage does not step up and replace the order. Reason: their profit on the order has already been donated. My order total: $26. My future online purchases: $0

Yelp
I came here for a SoFar Concert, and it was a cute venue. It was clean and spacious. I loved being surrounded by activist reminders. I was impressed by the items they selected for the display. It immediately pulled you in to the shelf and the racks. I just wished the prices were properly displayed. It was hard to tell how much things cost.

Yelp
Sad to hear it closed because I thought it was very unique and was in high demand! I worked here back in 2018 for about a year and a half and really enjoyed it! They moved a couple times and every time I was very impressed by the way they used the space to display everything from clothing and accessories to books and posters. They were doing really cool work, donating proceeds to causes like Planned Parenthood. While it did come off as very white, capitalist activism, they made their mission known. Their stuff was very expensive, rending their merch virtually inaccessible to the people they claimed to be supporting. It was very neoliberal and political, in a way that didn't uplift marginalized voices. It was very women centric, isolating queer people. They weren't radical, but used the word to attract attention and capitalize off of the fear and sadness among the marginalized in 2016-2017.

Yelp
Awesome activist apparel store that was established by Rebecca Lee Funk, the founder and CEO who was at the forefront of the Women's March movement. Her vision is to donate 15-100% of profits back to organizations supporting women's rights such as Planned Parenthood, the Malala Fund, and She Should Run. I hadn't heard of her or the store, so I'm glad I've educated myself! There's a lot of cute clothing and coasters and stickers and buttons and mugs and books that supports women's empowerment, including shirts that underscore the wage gap. There's stuff on equality for all, LGBTQ pride, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and lots more. I purchased a Ruth Bader Ginsburg action figure for a friend who would love such a gift.

Yelp
Ah commercialized activism, I am a sucker for thee. This is a great place for gifts and other things you didn't know you needed (like a Lizzo candle, score!) that help you show the world that you! are! a! feminist!! Definitely full of hot media phrases and white feminist icons and missing some elements like literature from minority activists, etc., but like I said, this is a fun little gift stop and will make you feel welcome and politically active. Would come back again and again if I lived in DC.

Yelp
A great selection of gifts for the activists and politicos in your life. When looking for DC souvenirs, this is one of the rare ones that are also a neighborhood gem.

Yelp
Such a cool place! I came here to watch the debate, they have a huge lounge room in the back with a small bar. They had happy hour before the debate started so we were able to drink and hangout before. The seats were very comfy, but I would recommend getting there early if you want a seat on the couch. However, I believe they have added more seating since it has become a popular place to watch the debate. TIP: if you want to watch the debate make sure to fill out their google form to RSVP which can be found on their Facebook. Also, you don't have to be 21+ to attend even though there is a bar.

Yelp
How the heck did I not know The Outrage existed? As an active member of the #Resistance here in D.C., I LOVE THIS STORE. I literally wanted to buy everything - the clothes, the bags, the notebooks, the pins - everything! It's a great place to buy a statement t-shirt or a cute tote and there is definitely a wide range of items if you're looking for a gift. The store is pretty big and airy and has a nice selection of items and even a section for children! Check it out if you haven't, buy a cool t-shirt, and join the Women's March in January 2019!

Yelp
I absolutely love this 14th Street neighborhood gem! Now more than ever, it is important to shop with purpose and the fact that ALL purchases include a donation of some sort is remarkable. This is a great place to find thoughtful gifts for loved ones (as well as gifts for yourself :) ) I would highly recommend checking them out for all of your bad-ass activism attire needs!

Yelp
Let's be clear. The only way marginalized communities can organize is through accessible means. This members only 'activism' space is catering to neoliberal transplants who move to DC to work for organizations with likely exclusionary politics under the guise of inclusion. Combined with bio-essentialist decor including many uterus themed pieces, this place is an elitist mess that is exemplary of all the ways DC is changing for the worse. I've been in the area my whole life, and I've never seen a more blatant disrespect and capitalization on marginalized people's struggles. I applied for a discounted membership, as I just graduated undergrad + (as stated multiple times in my application) have multiple marginalized identities that this space allegedly stands in solidarity with. They haven't responded in over two weeks. Many of my friends work with organizations that do actual work for communities in the area, one being a health clinic that supports low income and LGBTQ+ community right down the street from The Outrage and none of my friends have heard of this spot. That goes to show who the desired 'activists' are. If you're not reaching out to the communities you vaguely support with every purchase (it says this on the website although doesn't go into detail about where the money is going, if it is there it's not easily accessible) you're not doing anything productive + discounting the work of organizers. Some cool (paid) events are held here, so I guess I will eventually have to go back but I want to let y'all know this place is a huuuuuuuuuge testament to performative activism.
