Had some of the freshest and most pleasant tasting fried chicken I think I’ve ever had here as a part of the chicken and waffles dish. Also noteworthy ketchup seems to be freshly made as well? Felt like they went the extra mile on freshness of ingredients, and that only augmented an already solid dining experience. Menu and staff very accommodating and understanding of dietary restrictions. It is a little loud when it’s at peak capacity due to this restaurant being situated in a small house, but it’s quite charming overall. Will be back with friends sometime soon

We had a lovely dinner at Owl House. The food was great and the portion size is huge. The lychee martini was perfect, but my fave was the porkchop, it was sooooo good. Jenna, who took our orders and served, was fantastic!

Literally no joke…. The best food and drinks I’ve had in my life! We weren’t going to get drinks but we did… one was a strawberry something with foam that was light and great and some bourbon thing with a tincture lol had us lit! The food was great we initially came since they had great vegan options but it was superb… We order cauliflower wings super delicious The fried mushroom abosolutely great And my all time best burger the BVE BURGER With rosemary fries…. Bro 10/10. Not only that our server who name I forgot to put here here was phenomenal in service honesty and knowledge…. Great atmosphere even better food.

Was here in 2023 and then 3 nights in a row in January 25. It is relatively small and seating at the bar (largely for walk-ins) is cosy. Tables are well spaced. Good value and service, bar staff who make all drinks with care and flair. Lovely menu with a specials board. I had the hearty lamb stew 3 nights in a row. The Tamarind Sour is delicious. Also had a rocket and apple salad, coconut and chocolate moose in various nights. Would happily return anytime.

Got the cauliflower buffalo wings and they were really good. Got the silver soul which had Gin and Sake. Fried southern style mushrooms with collard greens accompanied by some really amazing sauces- brilliant. Fish and chips with crunchy coleslaw also good.

I love this place! The food and drinks are amazing and unique, and they have a lot of options for dietary preferences and allergens, including gluten free and vegan.

Google
This was my first time at The Owl House 🦉 and it was so delightful! I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and definitely recommend the patio if you're able to get a seat there. I had the "goose juice" cocktail 🪿 as well as the summer pasta. My partner ordered the cauliflower wings (I had to steal a few - yum!) and the salmon. Everything was well-prepared and delicious! Our server was funny and did a great job of taking care of us!

When family and friends visit us in Rochester, we typically go to the Owl House because it offers so many dietary options. We have vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free, and meat eaters. No matter who we take, we always leave super satisfied, bellies full of amazing food and drinks. Even though we've visited The Owl House at least 6 or 7 times in the two years since we've moved to the Roc, this is the first time I knew I HAD to leave a review. We've always had great service, but Willow is by far one of, if not THE best server I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was a server for years, and game recognizes game. She was funny, her timing was perfect, but her suggestions? I typically order steaks, pasta, or seafood dishes. This girl had me ordering pork chops for dinner, and it was the best pork chop I've ever had! Absolutely amazing! She made our evening out with our PA family perfect. I highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already, the atmosphere, the food, the service, the menu options...it's all there.

Yelp
Great food and exceptional service. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu. Eating outside under the lights was intimate, unique and fun. It felt like we were eating in someone's backyard.

Yelp
I absolutely love The Owl House! I haven't been since 2012 when I visited Rochester. I moved here recently, so my friend and I came for brunch. He's vegan, and they have so many awesome vegan options! He had vegan stuffed French Toast that was awesome! The vegan cinnamon struessel tasted so good too! I had The Cat's Pajamas cocktail but with pomegranate because I'm allergic to strawberries and it was delightful! And the Owl House Breakfast was WOW! Those potatoes were FANTASTIC! Everything was fantastic. I can't wait to come back for more. I'm so glad I live close now! The staff is amazing too! So positive and helpful and lovely. Such a fantastic spot!

Yelp
Appropriately titled, this little restaurant is located in a house. When we arrived for our reservation we walked upstairs to a table where a few other families were sitting. Food was deliciously amazing. The staff were friendly and so accommodating to allergies. I had the vegan chickpea burger which had an amazing jam on it. My husband had some of the best tofu we've ever had. It was crispy and glazed. The fries were amazing too. 10000% recommend.

Yelp
Finally got to check out the Owl House for brunch. I've wanted to check this place out for awhile and recently saw a post about the amazing brunch- so had to check it out! We ordered the chicken & waffles - which were delicious. The chicken was crispy and perfectly seasoned and the waffle was light and fluffy. We also got the fancy toast with a side of crispy potatoes- which lived up to their name! I ordered the passionfruit lemonade- which was n/an and sooo refreshing! Overall food was good. Staff were nice and accommodating. I would recommend getting a reservation - there can be a wait for seating/food. There is a cute outdoor patio with seating. Many vegan and gluten free options! Restaurant is also very allergy friendly. I'll definitely be back to try the dinner menu! Enjoy!

Chris S.

Yelp
Went here for brunch with some friends while visiting from out of town. Service was quick and friendly, and we had a great time sitting out on a the lovely patio! Bloody Mary was delicious, as was the breakfast sandwich. Coffee cake was amazing if a bit too big on top of our entrees! Would recommend.

Yelp
Two of my friends and I made a reservation for 7:30 for Saturday night (6/22). The food & drinks were good as usual. The only reason I'm updating my review to 4 stars from 5 is because of the very rude service. The bartender greeted us the minute we walked in and let us know someone would be with us soon. A few minutes later, another customer walked in and some guy who was working at the register by the bar gave the person their to-go order and didn't say a word to us. I figured oh he works here! Maybe he can help. So I politely said "hi! we have a reservation for 7:30" and he gives me a very rude look as if i'm bothering him and says "ok. and the host will be with you soon" and walks off with an entire attitude. Next, the host comes up and offers us a table outside and I ask if there are bugs and then SHE gets an attitude! I let her know I'm allergic to bug bites and would rather sit inside and then she changed her tone. The server was super nice and we had no issues there. I'm just wondering what we did to that guy and to the host to receive such attitude? It wasn't a busy night, we had a reservation, and I don't know them personally so I did not appreciate the energy. I've been a server and worked in several restaurants. That's not the right way to go about treating paying customers, and maybe they need to be reminded of that.

Yelp
We picked out the Owl House after arriving in town for its selection of gluten free and vegan options. My wife picked out a chick pea burger on a bar of greens and a side of chips (look at the photo - see any chips?). And I selected a tofu scramble with potatoes. Both meals were tasty and filling, at fairly reasonable prices. On the downside I didn't realize until back at the hotel that the chips and utensils were missing. Deducting a star for that. Otherwise a good experience.

Yelp
Met my friend for dinner here Tuesday night at 5:00 when they opened, had a reservation, which I highly recommend, seated right away by pleasant host. Server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Place is small, easy to find, parking on street which is plentiful. Menu is mostly vegan which made me nervous as I'm not, lol. Had the beef Cheeseburger with Rosemary Fries which was delicious. Also had a Caesar salad, scrumptious. My friend had the chickpea burger with Rosemary Fries and loved her meal. Bill was $61.00 for 2 so a little high, but worth it for the food, great service, and neat place. Definitely going to be back, thank you for the good meal.

Yelp
The Owl House has become one of my go-to brunch spots in Rochester... I just went for the second Saturday in a row! The staff are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about their menu--this morning, Camille had wonderful recommendations about cocktails! We didn't end up going for the hot mulled cider (with spiced rum), but the fall flavors were far from lacking. I got the Chicken and Waffles (the non-vegan twin of their Tofu and Waffles), and it was stellar. The chicken was battered with warm spices and sage, and positively delicious! As a celebration, we finished off brunch with the seasonal pumpkin chai coffee cake, which was moist, flavorful, and generously portioned. We dined upstairs in an anteroom with beautiful pictures of fence murals on the walls, and it was a blissful fall reprieve from lots of hard work. It was my friend's first time here, and she said brunch today "healed something" inside her... so count that as a second rave review!

Melissa P.

Yelp
The food is amazing. I had the tofu scramble sandwich with potatoes and it was filling with rich flavor. The service was good. Wish they had more espresso/latte selections for coffee. The ambiance is very lively and busy.

Yelp
One of the best meals we've had in Rochester in years! Everything was delicious, everything. Things were fresh and well-cooked, which turned very simple and common ingredients into unique standout dishes. The cocktails were fantastic as well, not overly sweet as most places. We can't wait to come back to try more. The ambiance is very, very loud due to the structure of the restaurant, just to keep in mind. We had to leave quite quickly, it was so loud.

R B.

Yelp
Tip for summer: no air conditioning and no air flow not even fans or open windows so plan accordingly. We were drenched in sweat and drinking water nonstop. Otherwise, very creative menu and delightful staff. Kudos to the chefs!!

Mark B.

Yelp
Great food, great ambiance. Up scale but not pretentious. We told our daughter about this place and she keeps reminding us we promised to take her. Looking forward to that.

Christine S.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were passing through Rochester on a Tuesday night when we went to The Owl House. I was really excited to try their food because there were so many great vegetarian options on the menu. However, the service was absolutely horrible and even avoidant. After we were seated outside, we were told that someone would be waiting on us shortly. 10, 20, and almost 30 minutes later, not one waiter looked our way. In fact, all of the waiters sat other people and took their orders instead even though they arrived after us. We couldn't help but think the staff knew we were out of town and were purposefully avoiding us. We got up and left without ordering anything after about 25 minutes of no waiters acknowledging us. To top it all off, someone at the bar by the restaurant's entrance told us to have a good night on our way out. ... Seriously? After that horrible service experience? Pay more attention to your customers next time!

Yelp
Unique spot you should check out. Visiting from out of town and stuggled to find a place to eat on a Sunday night that wasn't a sports bar or pizza place. Came across Owl House and stopped with a co-worker for dinner. They have an outdoor patio that wasn't available when we arrived - so sat inside. Music was pretty loud at our table - so we struggled for awhile and we mentioned it to our waitress who got it turned down. My first IPA order off the menu - they were out. She suggested an alternative and it turned out to be a good option. We read about the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings and wanted to order them, but they had a slight variation to the app called Nashville Hot Buffalo Wings (it's not wings) and it was fantastic! Our highlight of the evening. My co-worker ordered the Cesar Salad with Chicken and said it was fine. I tried to order the Salmon (which is the main reason I came here) and they were out. That was really disappointing. She suggested the Tofu which had the same preparation/compliments - which I decided to order (I have never ordered Tofu as an entree) and it was fine.....but to be fair, I'm not sure how to evaluate a Tofu dinner since it's not my thing. Service from Alyx was excellent!

Yelp
Great little place for vegetarian food. Comfortable cozy atmosphere. Wonderful servers

Dave F.

Yelp
We had to wait 5 years to finally be able to visit The Owl House, and it was worth the wait. The atmosphere is very inviting, staff were nice and attentive. We had roasted carrots and bruchetta for appetizers, my wife had salmon and I had the tofu dinner. Everything was very tasty. We had no complaints and can concur The Owl House lives up to its reputation

Alicia L.

Yelp
I always forget about this place and when I go again, I'm always pleasantly surprised. One of my favorite things about Owl House is their mixed menu (vegan and non vegan). I love that they cater to both so I can find something to eat that's not a boring salad, and so can whom ever I'm with if they don't want a vegan meal can have what they want too. I love that they also didn't forget about us vegans when it comes to dessert as well ! The atmosphere I feel is pretty typical for a downtown house converted into a restaurant.. very cozy and comfortable. We sat outside in the garden which has at least 7 tables. It was super relaxing and the wait staff was very pleasant. The only thing that can get frustrating is the parking .. which is street parking. But, both sides are available so if you're luckily enough you may get a spot right out front. I will always come back to Owl House time and time again.

Madeleine G.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent! Small place so I definitely recommend a reservation. Very accommodating for allergies. We had a group of 8. We tried most of the stuff on the menu and enjoyed the flavors and options. Drink options, including the wine, were delicious too. Look forward to coming back next time we are in Rochester.

Edgar M.

Yelp
Pros: Plenty of vegan options; rosemary fries were good; our waitress was friendly and efficient. Cons: Most of the food was mediocre at best; homemade ketchup was weird; some issues with the bathroom. My spouse and I met some friends at Owl House on a Sunday morning for brunch. I was impressed at the number of vegan options that were available to us. We split a plate of rosemary fries as an appetizer, and they were quite good. The housemade ketchup, on the other hand, was unusual -- and not in a good way. I had the waffles and tofu, with a side of the crispy potatoes. The waffles and tofu were OK but nothing special (also, there wasn't enough maple syrup provided). The crispy potatoes were not very good. They looked great but had very little flavor or salt. Adding the aforementioned weird ketchup didn't help much. My spouse had a tofu scramble sandwich, and I think she liked her entrée more than I enjoyed mine. We decided to split an order of the Concorde grape crumble for dessert. This was a mistake. The cake turned out to be dry and tasteless, and it basically disintegrated into little crumbs if you stuck a fork in it. Granted, it's called a "crumble", but this was ridiculous. And there were no grapes to be seen anywhere. Finally, the bathroom situation could be improved. I used the bathroom on the ground floor, further from the dining room. There was no indicator on the front of the door as to whether the bathroom was occupied. Management should consider getting one of those locks that has an "Occupied" or "Vacant" indicator on the outside of the door. Also, the paper towel dispenser was mounted to the wall right over the toilet. So if you reached over with wet hands to grab some paper towels, you could potentially drip water on the toilet seat (and, in fact, the toilet seat had multiple small drops of liquid on it). As it stands, the paper towel dispenser is in a very inappropriate spot and should be moved somewhere else. My previous visits to the Owl House happened several years ago and were for dinner (not brunch). Though I don't remember the details anymore, I do recall being unimpressed at the time. Overall, I'm underwhelmed by the Owl House. I don't hate it, but I think I'm being generous with three stars.

Ali F.

Yelp
Came here for brunch (been for dinner before)! It was so so good. I had the tofu breakfast sandwich special which had tomatoes and caramelized onions with lemon aioli. It was really well seasoned. Came with potatoes where were crispy but soft in the center. Also shared a stuffed French toast which had a coconut whipped cream. I had a Bloody Mary as a drink. My friend had an espresso martini. Both were so good. The ambiance is nice and it was not crazy busy. Would rec!

Shaina G.

Yelp
I loveee the Owl house! My husband and I just popped by one a cold winter's night, and had a very delicious meal. They have a good amount of vegan options as well as mocktails. Will definitely come back!

Kristen H.

Yelp
Oh wow! It had been years since I'd been to owl house and now I can't wait to go back Having recently switched to a plant forward diet I was excited to try out their menu The vegan Tina melt DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! heavenly!! Can not wait to go back! My friends loved their meals as well and the wine special was on point!

Philip A.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I arrived at 30 minutes til closing on a Sunday night. Excellent service, every dish and every drink was fancy, with attention to presentation. Surprisingly top-notch restaurant given the small size and the outside look of the place.

Belen P.

Yelp
The owl house is a very cute place, the food was good but our server was not very patient. Cocktails were regular.

Yaumaris A.

Yelp
Found this amazing restaurant for dinner on Thursday. The environment is cozy and intimate. Perfect for date night. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the soup of the day which was the minestrone and it had a lot of ingredients but to my surprise , it didn't taste like anything. It was missing flavor/salt. I jad the Rosemary fries with Rosemary/black peppers/ketchup and it was ok. I also had the Sirloin (medium well) it came with corn, tomatoes, zucchini salad, asparagus, crispy potatoes and chimichurry and it was amaxing. The steak was perfectly cooked and all the flavors play perfectly with each other. For dessert I had the chocolate/coconut mousse with nuts and OMG it was just delicious, I couldn't stop eating it!

Catherine A.

Yelp
Great menu. Super friendly folks. Options for many dietary restrictions. Restaurant is so idyllic and cozy. Delicious food and tasty/extensive drink menu.

Juliet S.

Yelp
Love this place! Housed in an old big Victorian house, this is a great place to eat and have drinks. Cute atmosphere with outside dining. Fresh fun items to choose from which I appreciate being a vegetarian and all! Definitely stop by and eat at this place! Especially on a beautiful day.

Theresa S.

Yelp
Eclectic and catered to our need for dairy free options. It is a popular restaurant but nothing really stands out. Not sure we will be back.

Ralph M.

Yelp
Just left dinner at the Owl House with another couple and all 4 of us had great meals. Beyond that, my wife and I both agreed this was one of the finest meals we have had in Rochester in recent memory. Friendly service, creative menu, lots of vegan options, delicious food and appropriately generous portions. We had not been to Owl House in a long time but we will be back soon for sure.

Amanda M.

Yelp
A really cute spot with really friendly people! The menu is different from most places, with some interesting selections. It seems to be really awesome for vegan and vegetarian diets - lots of options! I had the MOST delicious spring pasta dish - I could have had 4 bowls of it. I do wish there was a bit more variety on their menu, but what they do have all seems really delicious!

Ben P.

Yelp
One the top restaurants in rochester and have vegan/gluten free options which I very much appreciate.

J S.

Yelp
love BVE burger. Always a great experience. No service issues. ordered many times. 5 star dining experience.

Jenna P.

Yelp
The vegan tuna melt was delicious and very filling. We had heard rave reviews of the cauliflower wings and they were even better than we expected: crispy outside, and soft and delicious inside. The toppings were spectacular as well. The house made fries and chips were perfectly cooked. The special, which was gluten free fish fry, was great with colorful and tasty sides! Highly recommend all of it!

Annie S.

Yelp
The restaurant is in a house, it looks so homey and peaceful. We did a girls night here and it was easy to cater to all of our dietary restrictions. The servers were very kind and knowledgeable about the menu, Ill definitely be going back

Anuk B.

Yelp
Nice restaurant with a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. They have delicious Buffalo cauliflower and amazing seasonal drinks. Service was fast, drinks were tasty, and the food was all affordable. Nice spot to check out in Rochester

Rene V.

Yelp
Started with the rosemary fries which was more flavorful than you'd expect. Crispy on the outside, soft on it inside. Not overly greasy. For my entree, I got the black bean burger with chips on the side. Smashed guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, and a black bean patty. The bun was soft. I will say as someone that loves beans, I regret ordering the bean burger. The patty was kind of gritty. It lacked any flavor and unsure what to suggest to make it better. I'd advise to go with the impossible patty instead. The chips were homemade; those were delicious.

Tim W.

Yelp
Amazing food with excellent ambience!! The service was excellent and our bartender was one of the best I've had. Drinks were on point. The Buffalo Cauliflower is a MUST, delicious!!

Brian G.

Yelp
Legit one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Came here with a colleague and it did not disappoint! Got the pumpkin cauliflower appetizer (out of this world). Got the spaghetti with chicken sausage, so good!

Alex L.

Yelp
What a quaint little house with a delicious menu! The server was absolutely amazing, totally helpful but also gives you enough space to enjoy the meal. I got a whole heapful of a variety of small plates to share, the stuffed mushrooms, a fall salad, the Buffalo cauliflower vegan wings and the Brussel sprouts. The Cauliflower wings were incredible--super crispy and delicious and the vegan blue cheese was delicious! I'm not vegetarian, but the veggie-only meal was memorable and delicious. The stuffed mushrooms with the sweet potato puree was lovely as well and highly recommended. I loved the brussel sprouts - very crispy and the aioli was tasty. Unfortunately, they were out of scallops on this day, but I would definitely head back to The Owl House if I end up in Rochester again.

Megan C.

Yelp
Owl House: you're simply the best! Allergy friendly, delicious, and ever changing - with a robust cocktail menu to boot. Hard to go wrong with any meal from this cozy house on Marshall St, but my experience this week was one to remember! I got there early and headed to the bar. On special was an apple cider cocktail made with red jacket cider and rum with apple garnish. This cocktail was soooo delicious I had to order another with dinner. The three of us then ordered the buffalo cauliflower wings to split, and one order is absolutely plenty for three. The cashew bleu cheese sauce and slaw that comes with it broke my wing loving brain. They had a tofu and bean entree on the menu for this time of year with a pumpkin butter sauce. I went with this (I need to go back ASAP and also try the bve burger!) and it did not disappoint. I always find it hard to order since there's so many great seasonal options available. I can't wait to get back for brunch and try more goodies from Owl House, but this cozy spot is a must do - especially if anyone in your life has an allergy or two!

Madhava C.

Yelp
Excellent food and nice outdoor ambiance! Also good vegan options for those with dietary restrictions.

Barry R.

Yelp
Unique. Friendly. Food was good. I think I'd return but will depend on the type of group.

Roxanne P.

Yelp
So good. Everyone should try it out. Vegan or not, its good stuff. I love the burgers, and i have a veggie friend who got the non meat option. I would have eaten that one happily! The Buffalo cauliflower is outstanding. Nice people and a kitchy little place!

Shek L.

Yelp
Firstly, if you are a vegan, vegetarian or have food allergies, this place is for you. My son has food allergies (eggs, dairy, nuts and seafood). The waiter was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and there were plenty of items that he could have or they can do substitutions. He ordered the bve burger with chips and he said it was delicious. We also had two sides, the rosemary fries and the buffalo cauliflower. Both of which he was able to have. Fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. Buffalo cauliflower tasted just like buffalo wings sans chicken wings with a vegan blue cheese. My wife and I had the mushroom risotto. Her's with scallop and mine with sirloin steak. Having tasted both, I would recommend the scallops over the steak. The risotto was not as creamy as what we have tried in other places but the flavor was good. The kale that came along with it was slightly saltier than what we would have liked. But that is just our preference. All in all, the fact that they are so good with food allergies and the food and services were also good, we will definitely make this a go to place with our son when we are in Rochester.

Alberto A.

Yelp
The people are great there! The menu is versatile and the food is amazing. A great place to eat.

Adina S.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in a while and my recent experience reminded me exactly why this restaurant deserves all 5 stars. If you only will take one piece of advice, just buy the buffalo cauliflower wings. I've been trying for years and nothing can compare to Owl House's version of these. I've also never had anything on their menu that I didn't love! Another awesome thing about this place is although it definitely caters to vegans or food sensitivity, I can bring someone who loves meat and prefers traditional American food and they will find something they not only like, but love. That is a rarity! An underrated Rochester gem!

Amy G.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant because it is fresh, has gluten free options, great cocktails, excellent service, cozy atmosphere. Love it!!

Roger P.

Yelp
their food selections are as tasty as they are unique. I'm not a vegan, but everything was delicious. Service and ambiance were impeccable
