Myself and my husband had a fantastic meal here on the 11th of June 2025. You will not leave hungry. The portion sizes are big. The selection and specials are amazing. We had the cold and hot seafood section, which was amazing. The staff are wonderful and very attentive. Highly recommend 👌

The atmosphere, menu options, food, wine/beer, and service provided by the staff are all excellent. Our group had the chowder, the cold seafood platter, and the fish bake. All of them were phenomenal, and provided generous portions.

Very good place for a dinner, is a bit loud inside but you can find a spot in the place for a more private date. Highly recommended. Contrs: is expensive.

Food was wonderful - very tasty ! It was a busy dinner service with all the tables taken. The only downside was that the food came out too quickly after each course. After ordering we had starters within 5 minutes, then once finished it was cleared straight away and the mains arrived less than 10 minutes after. We all left something from the main as the food didn’t have enough time to settle .. 15-20 min between clearing is ideal. We all felt like we were rushed

This place was such a treat for the weary travelers that my Dad and I were at this point in our epic Ireland adventure. The wonderful manager at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel had sent us here to wait for our bed and breakfast owners to make it back from Dublin. The staff was so gracious and accommodating. First let's start with the food though. The oysters were amazing. We got both the natural and grilled oysters to start both were amazing! Then we both got different seafood specials that didn't disappoint. Then the staff were such great people we couldn't thank them enough. We left to meet the B & B owners nobody was home. We ended up coming back my phone was useless in the area and we couldn't get ahold of the owners. They called them found out they got held up by an accident on the way. So we ended up just having to hangout with the great staff in a wonderful place until the owners came and joined us before heading back for the night. What a fun experience and so happy to be able to share it with the great food and staff at The Oyster Tavern!

My friend and I went to The Oyster Tavern for a meal on a Saturday night. For starter I got the red onion and brie tart-it was tiny! Looked ridiculous on the large plate. 5% pastry, 5% brie , 90% red onion. Not nice! My friend got the garlic mushrooms -a much bigger portion and very tasty! Our mains were unbelievable, so so tasty. I got the hot fish selection, my friend the monk fish In a prawn and leek sauce. Both were 10 out of 10. Personally I don't think steamed carrots and peppers suffice as a veg side but that's just my opinion! Had plenty mash and chips. The dessert. To be honest we were both stuffed but looked at the menu anyways! And I remembered their famous chocolate fondant! We had to get it but could only manage one between us. This has significantly decreased in size and was just cakey, no oozy inside. We didn't bother to finish. Very disappointed. There was a hurling match on the TV so it was naturally very busy, and loud! We waited for ages for somebody to pass to ask for the bill. That didn't happen. So I got up and went and asked for it. I was asked to hang on while it printed and was handed a piece of paper... We waited at our table for a bit but my friend eventually had to get up to pay as she was paying with card. Not the end of the world but shouldn't have happened. When the service was good it was really good, and prompt but when it was not good it was really not good. Having said that everyone was very pleasant. A very mixed bag....

Yelp
2025 June 23: 1) Dover sole from specials 2) sirloin steak from specials 3) oysters 4) chowder. The chowder is very good and so is the Dover sole. We ordered fragrant rice and that is just plain rice. But the meshed potatoes are really good.

Yelp
We decided to pop in for a quick drink and some oysters, since it is their namesake. Upon entering, we were asked if we had a reservation, which we had not but were fine being turned away if they were just too busy to seat us. They did seat us at one of their high top tables, which we were very grateful for. Our drinks came out quickly despite a very crowded bar area with many locals chatting away. When the oysters came out, we noticed that they were not cold to the touch. In fact, they were pretty warm, which kind of alarmed us. After trying a few, we decided to just stop eating them because we didn't want to get sick. We happily paid for everything without a complaint, but I will caution those who come by for fresh, raw oysters. Service was great despite a busy afternoon and the not so great oysters, so I can't fault them too much for one appetizer. I'm sure their other dishes are great.

Yelp
Stopped here after a great day on the links of Tralee Golf Club. Food was amazing! Service was fantastic, typical Irish Hospitality. Even met the former captain of Tralee Golf Club who just came over to introduce himself to 4 American golfers to see where we were playing and what we thought of the golf. Great location.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely evening here for dinner. We had no reservation but they were able to seat us anyway. We were grateful to get out of the cold and rain. Service was prompt and friendly, the food was lovely! Oysters sooo good!

Yelp
Absolutely LOVELY Food and charming service. We arrived into Tralee town a lot later than planned and so lucked out that this place was still open. The Oyster tavern is actually located a little bit out of town, but the great thing was there was plenty of parking. When you enter, there's a bar area and then the restaurant is a little bit off and separate from the bar. We went to the restaurant area and the feast began - we got a lovely Italian Prosecco, the oysters 3-ways, seafood linguine, roasted duck 2 ways with purple cabbage, a whole pan-fried Sole fish, veg of the day, chips, roasted potatoes and salad. We all agree, the oysters all natural were the best - sweet and slightly tart. My duck l'orange was perfection! That sauce was tangy and complimented the crispy skin and beautifully cooked duck perfectly. My co-diner's sole was so fresh and perfectly crispy -yummy! The chips, the vege, the potatoes - everything was just perfect! Service too was great! Absolutely recommend and would go here again. Note: #247 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

Yelp
If you stop at only one tavern/restaurant in Ireland--make it The Oyster Tavern. The dining room is beautifully decorated and the service is top notch. The bar is lively and friendly with regulars who add to the experience. The food is simply amazing. The crab claws will literally melt in your mouth. Sea food is phenomenal. The steaks are tender and savory. Everything about this place is genuine--and I cannot wait to return. This place is worth checking out!!
