The Palace Hotel

Food service is efficient, friendly & fast. The menu is large & loads to choose from. All fresh, presented beautifully, comes out hot & always tastes great. Seating is a huge area and spacious you can sit anywhere. Order at the counter and recieve a number and staff bring meals to your table. Toilets are clean, fresh & always smell wonderful.

Verbal conversations on rooms and actual reality of the room were totally opposite. We had double bed not queen no balcony,we asked for. The toilet was not properly secured to the floor. A huge ,atleast 50ml, cochroach ran across the wall into the shower recess. When we reported this the next day I was told well we live in the country you know. We went to purchase a bottle of wine in the evening and despite been told earlier that we they look after us earlier were charged $57 for a cheap bottle of wine. To the barmans credit he did offer us a bucket of ice. The next morning we went to hand our keys in and I saw that a breakfast buffet was laid out. I asked weather this was included in our price and was abruptly told that this was for the workers. On a whole it was not a welcoming environment. We had stayed there before fantastic time but not this time.

Stayed before and this visit was for dinner. Excellent food if a bit pricey. Great seating on the balcony. It's a lovely place in a good location with historical references.

Historic venue in the heart of town, stayed in a balcony room, was basic but nice, clean and a great view of the action. Short was average, staff were great! Good vibes in the Irish pub down stairs. Gold bar at your door step as well

Travelled from Perth to Kalgoorlie to dine on the balcony restaurant for my 90th birthday. The garlic bread was cold, as was the garlic butter inside? Three of us dining, one meal came out? after 5 minutes we asked for the other two meals? When our missing' meals came out they were just warm - asked for them to be reheated in the microwave - to get a hot meal, they were put under the warmer? came out hot on top - warm underneath. The best part of my dining memories for that special day was the roadworks outside, under light - at least they added some entertainment.

We spent a long weekend in Kalgoorlie and were largely disappointed by the Palace Hotel.|Good points|It is in a very central location close to the train station (15 mins walk) and other tourist activities.|Clean and tidy.|There were tea and coffee making facilities (although just basic with instant coffee). |Good air conditioning.|The food in the upstairs restaurant was fabulous - on the pricey side but worth it. Service in the restaurant was also very good.|Our room was quiet but we were at the back of the hotel away from the two main street frontages - may be noisier in the front rooms.|Not so good points|The Palace is a beautiful old historic building but is very tired and in need of a complete refurbishment - carpet was threadbare on the main foyer stairs, the panelling on the underside of the staircase had fallen off. It is a real shame to see this stunning building fall into such a state of disrepair.|We requested a room with a balcony which our room did not have. The sofa was old and ripped in parts, the bed was comfortable enough but made with an old looking blanket which gives off a vibe of being unclean. The carpet in the room was threadbare. |It would have been nice to have a bottle of water provided.|The curtains did not block out any light and with the sun coming up at 4.45am I would expect better.|Although the cost of the room was inexpensive I would have expected a better quality room for this price, or to pay less for a room of this standard. It appeared to be largely booked by mine workers with little to no vacancy and obviously no interest in fixing up for a tourist market.|There was no make up or cleaning service provided on weekends, which was not advised by the booking site when we booked (I checked and this is still not disclosed).|There is no breakfast option available at all with the Irish Pub downstairs opening at 11am and the restaurant not opening until 5pm. The closest breakfast is a Dome around the corner.

The worst hotel we have ever ever stayed at. I wish I had read the reviews first!! At almost $1k for the night for the apartment, the floor is the filthiest thing I have seen. There are rags for curtains and there was no mention the room is over the top of a nightclub which went until 2am. We had 4 children and 2 80 year olds with us and no-one slept! The staff could not care and it is a terrible part of town. Our camper had the door ripped open and robbed within an hour of being there at 6pm! I would avoid this place at all costs!

This is without a doubt the WORST hotel I’ve ever seen in Australia. If you’re even thinking about staying here, do yourself a favor and run the other way. The welcome was nothing short of hostile — almost aggressive. The sofa bed wasn’t made, and when we politely pointed it out, the receptionist literally THREW a sheet in our faces while screaming at us. The next day, same attitude again just because we reported a broken light in the bathroom. Every single question about the hotel was answered with either an eye roll, a sigh, or a rude gesture. The sofa bed is unbearably uncomfortable, the Wi-Fi doesn’t even work, and the room is loud all night. This place is a disgrace to the hotel industry. Absolutely shameful.

The best peppered steak in Australia, hands down! I have been coming here regularly over the last 3 years while working on a project in Kalgoorlie. I have been to almost every 5 Star steak restaurant in Australia and I challenge any of them to compete with this steak. Consistent, perfectly cooked, always impresses!

The menu needs to change. I have been coming here for years and nothing on the menu has varied. Some variety required urgently. I am sitting here now and the service has been appalling. All service staff seemed totally focused on cleaning tables of departed patrons rather that servicing those that are seated. I have had four staff go past me a dozen times with my drink empty and plate waiting to be cleared. Basic stuff really. When staff have attended there is no eye contact and they are walking away before the conversation has concluded. The Thai beef salad came out in minutes indicating it was all prepared. Time to move on.

Beautiful views and beautiful food from the upper balcony but a pity about the manager arguing over turning on an air conditioner in a corner that had no air flow especially since the air con was right over our table. The customer is not always right but it does leave a bad taste in your mouth when management argues over turning on an air con on a 40 degree day. It's the little things that sometimes have the greatest affect on your dining experience.

Palace Hotel, Kalgoorlie, pride of place on the main drag, Hannan's Street. On referral we ventured here in search of a good steak. It was 7.30 at night and the temp was still 36C. We decided to sit on the upstairs balcony of this beloved institution and cool the body with a chilled beer. Three steaks for three lads followed. I went Pepper Crusted Prime Eye Fillet 400g, with creamy mash and a pepper & brandy sauce..medium rare. As steaks go, this was up there with the best. You bloody ripper! The rest of the menu, service and location are also worthy of recommendation.
