Google
The drive to the Palisades is twisty, turny, and scenic. Located across the New River from Eggleston Cliffs you start to wonder why would somebody put a restaurant way out here? The answer is so you can appreciate the beauty of Giles County before you enjoy some of the best cuisine in Southwest Virginia. We have eaten at the Palisades several times despite the drive as it is so pretty. Each time the service is excellent, the servers knowledgable, the menu diverse and the food delicious. The grit fritters, the brisket, the lobster roll and chocolate cake were each so enjoyable. The rustic decor includes a wall of cubby holes filled with memorabilia and history. The bar is reminiscent of an old saloon. We look forward to visiting again.

Google
The Palisades is an excellent choice for dinning! The TV Dinner was both nostalgic and good. The meatloaf reminded me of a home cooked meal and the setup reminded me of the old TV dinners I ate as kid. The pizzas and pork chop my kids got looked really good and according to them tasted great. Great atmosphere and the good prices were a bonus. It was a little loud but they had live music and we still held a regular conversation.

Google
This is a wonderful restaurant! It is located in a building built in the 1920s in Eggleston Virginia. It is a 10 to 15 minute drive from Pembroke on back roads that are absolutely beautiful. Great atmosphere, friendly folks, excellent food! We enjoyed pizzas, chicken and rice soup, and delicious salads.

Google
Right up to the door, I wasn’t sure I was in the right place. You’d never know there’s a bustling restaurant in the old general store from the outside, but inside is a cool atmosphere with excellent food. I had the ribeye (just ok) and my companions had the fish of the day (excellent!), flown in fresh from Hawaii! The focaccia bread with a creamy pimento cheese and bacon jam was super.

Google
I am always impressed with everything about the Palisades. This place is great. Had new years eve dinner here, super packed but still great service. This is IMHO the best dinner out in the entire NRV and surrounding area. Prices are reasonable but the quality is top notch. Go here for a special occasion, go here for love music, go here because it's a random Friday and you want good food.. just visit this restaurant now if you haven't!!! This is a gem in the middle of basically nowhere.

Tahnee S.

Google
Absolutely excellent. It is a place worth writing home about. We happened upon this lovely gem of a restaurant on a whim while traveling in the area and if I’m within 100 miles in the future, I will be going out of my way to return! I have no doubt that the entire menu is delicious (I wanted to order it al); we had focaccia and the chefs special and the only disappointment I have is that I was too full to eat every last bite. The people were so kind and friendly and the space makes you feel right at home even if you’re 800 miles away. Come, eat, laugh, and enjoy - it’s worth it.

Google
Something special and way different than many restaurants. Really tastefull food and out of the ordinary. Very friendly and euphoric personal. Absolutly nice atmosphere. The outside of the building hides the beauty of the inside! Don't be fooled. The foccacia was delicious and perfectly made. We loved everything!!!

Jennifer S.

Google
The appetizers were amazing! We had the crab rolls and hush puppies. The fig butter pizza was over done. However, they replaced it. The atmosphere is super cool. We were there for new years. It was really close quarters. You could hardly move. Over all it was a good experience. It is pricey...

Yelp
We were seated promptly at 5:15 PM but did not receive our entrées until 6:30 PM. When our entrées were finally delivered, the servers did not clear away our empty salad plates - they simply set the meals down beside them. We had to ask for the dirty dishes to be removed, and the busser seemed inconvenienced by the request. After our entrées arrived, no one came by to check on us. We had no water, wine, or beer refilled during the meal and ended up eating without anything to drink. We were there to celebrate a birthday, which made the experience especially disappointing. The food itself was very good, and the fall menu was both creative and interesting. Three of the four dishes arrived hot and well-prepared, while one was served only lukewarm. Overall, while the food was enjoyable, the service fell well short of expectations. I don't think I will return.

Yelp
Absolutely love to come here. It's worth the driving. The food is different, the pizzas are so yummy. In general the service is great and friendly. On certain days they have live music, which I enjoy although was hard to hear the conversation at our table. Always a good place to come. Make sure to make your table reservation because they book up fast.

Yelp
We loved this quaint destination! The food, service, and drinks are on point! What a pleasant experience!

Yelp
Eggleston the town seems to be a nice, quiet town. On the outside, the Palisades looks like a small, homey restaurant that seats maybe 15. On the inside, however, there's a ton going on. The parking situation is interesting - it's next to the restaurant but very sloped and not the easiest to manage. However, when I arrived and entered the restaurant, the energy was the opposite of the town of Eggleston itself. There were tons of people and it seemed to be very fast-paced. The food itself was good. I ordered the supreme pizza, which surprisingly had an option for vegan cheese. I asked what kind of vegan cheese it was, and turns out they don't use a cheap brand like Daiya or Follow Your Heart. The pizza was wonderful - seasoned well and the cheese was not differentiable from dairy cheese. On the other hand, the seafood melt was just average. It tasted good, but the sauce was too runny and cost a lot. Overall, I had a good experience here. The only reason I'm not handing the five out is because of the seafood pasta, which I expected to be better, especially given the price point.

Yelp
Palisades is the epitome of "hidden gem." We heard about the restaurant from a magazine/web review and decided it was worth the one-hour drive to try it out, and we're glad we did. The restaurant is situated in the tiny ghost town of Eggleston, in an unassuming storefront that would be easy to miss even if you were driving by. (The parking lot was washed out and steeply slanted: sports cars need not apply.) Once inside we were greeted with rustic decor done in original wood. We arrived at 5:30 on a Thursday, and there were only two other tables occupied. Our waiter was prompt and attentive without being cloying. The menu is original, with lots of dishes we'd never heard of (positive for us). The selections are heavily meat based, so you may want to leave your veggie friends at home. Palisades has full bar service: I had a Negroni and my companion had a blueberry Mojito. Both were well made. We shared a cabbage salad which was super-fresh, then I opted for a pizza and she got the trout. The pizza was exactly how I like it: thin bubbly crust with plenty of toppings. Her trout was well prepared and accompanied by a "starch" of choice and the vegetable of the day. We were way too full for desert, but the ice cream looked inviting. By the time we left at about 7:00, the restaurant was full, so making reservations is a good idea.

Yelp
Party of 8 with a reservation for a birthday celebration, it took one hour to just get the appetizers, the water served was dirty and wrong food brought and some food getting cold before the rest of the party even got their meals. We have come here numerous times, giving it a chance every time but this was it was the last chance. Raw chicken, slow service, manager excuses don't make up for 20% off. The first time we went before Covid, it was excellent and we were so happy to find this place. It has been downhill ever since. Never again.

Iris K.

Yelp
We had a large party,we sit at bar and got a few drinks and was seated at our table in a timely manner, they were super busy, everyone got drinks and our waiter was very good with getting everyone food to them in a timely manner,as always food was delicious and very good choices,we have been here many times and will continue to return.Highly recommend.

George L.

Yelp
Great food and variety. Every type of food and drinks. Pizza is to die for and good choices. Shaina is a very welcoming host

Peggy W.

Yelp
Food was fabulous! Cooked to perfection. Great service. Loved the building and original flooring, shelves and other features. This is a hidden gem in Giles County. I will go back!

Ann B.

Yelp
My family and I love the Palisades Restaurant! Most recently, my daughter and I ordered the Black and Blue salad to share as an appetizer and the The Palisades pizza. The pizza is always outstanding. There's nothing like a pizza baked in a wood fired brick oven. Our cocktails were superb and the service was great too!
google avatar

Kathy K.

Yelp
Food is perfectly cooked One of the best meals Service was spectacular. The restaurant is in an old building the floors and ceiling are beautiful !!

Elle S.

Yelp
Love this place! Great fun menu and delicious food. Great service and vibes too. Definitely a favorite for the area.

Lebond C.

Yelp
I had Super Special Number Nine pizza which was also stone baked! It was the best pizza I had in the Greater Blacksburg-Christiansburg area. They quickly get booked out for special weekends such as Mother's or Father's Day. I did not like tiny tables for just two people., but there are round tables for bigger number of people on the second floor.

Marty I.

Yelp
Great food and vibe! Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Pizza was outstanding. Save room for any of the delicious desserts!

Headlock S.

Yelp
This is my second time at this restaurant with my family, and unfortunately, we just aren't around the Blacksburg area enough to enjoy it more. This is one of the state's if not region's hidden gems. In addition to unbelievable food, the staff are always attentive and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Excellent food and service! The pork chop was the best dish at our table, but all of them were winners. Always opt for the stone ground grits as your starch, great texture and flavor every time

Wayne F.

Yelp
Home run. My wife, her mother, and myself enjoyed a wonderful early dinner on Sunday with live music that was enjoyable and at a decibel level appropriate for the venue. Rare, to not have overly loud music in my experience. The service was very good, menu diverse, and specials described appropriately and special menu presented written to the table for review. One of us ordered a specialty pizza which was exactly as advertised but wasn't a good mix of toppings for her taste. Our mistake, not theirs. They make good pizza. I had their soup du jour. Pulled pork with garlic, carrots, in a chicken stock that was really tasty. I had their eggplant rolls in the best marinara sauce I've had. And I've been to Italy several times. The other had airline chicken in a strawberry sauce with dill mashed potatoes. Another home run. Tasty, tender, and perfect. Third time eating here. Very good every time. Excellent 5 stars this time. Anxious to go back.

Gabe P.

Yelp
The food was great and the service was friendly. They are really busy and you might need reservations. I say that because the bar seating isn't super comfortable. My only negative is that I had to wait for an hour when I sat at the bar last time. But I can't recommend it anymore if you get a table!

Kevin R.

Yelp
Growing up, I heard a commercial for a restaurant and their tagline was "The best restaurants show up where you least expect them". Thus is the case with the Palisades Restaurant. Excellent Ambience. The food was unique and tasteful. The waitstaff was attentive. Would recommend highly for a date or a get together.

Chibi C.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. Broccolini was cooked just right and the Lamb was also delicious. I prefer grilled over pan fried though. Hostess was very knowledgeable about the dishes and specials for the day. Waitress also checked on us a few times before the main course came out.

Jacob C.

Yelp
This was the definition of a Diamond in the Rough. From the outside, an old furniture store. From the inside, a rustic, but very nice restaurant. Definitely more upscale than I was expecting. Parking situation was a little iffy. The side parking lot is somewhat narrow and sloped. The inside was very nice. Everything was clean and had an element of rustic but elegant feel.. Our server was very polite and friendly, giving us some great recommendations. We tried the Pork Belly appetizer, which was to die for. We came close to ordering more to take home. For entrees, I got the Chef's Whim and my wife got the steak. Portions were generous, and absolutely delicious. The special was wild boar with bourbon grits and a chili honey acorn squash. That had to be one of the best dishes I have had in a very long time. Dessert was a strawberry cheesecake, which was also top notch. Awesome experience, highly recommend, will go back if in the area 100%.

Yelp
It was on a rainy day at night around 7:30 PM, on the way to the restaurant it was SO DARK and so scary we thought we were heading to the wrong place at first. When we finally got there there was a small wait even though we made a reservation ahead. There were plenty of various choices on the menu to pick from which I was grateful for. My partner knew what he wanted to get which was the pork chop but I wasn't sure what I wanted to get. So I asked my server what the TV dinner is like because the menu only mentioned shrimp, I asked her if it was big shrimp pieces (showing her a sauteed shrimp picture on google) and I don't think she even knew what the TV Dinner was. Why? because when the TV Dinner came out, it was a PASTA with small shrimp pieces which was NEVER mentioned by my server. I would've gotten something else if I knew beforehand. The presentation of the TV Dinner was cute and all but the food was NOT something I expected. However, the pork chop was very flavorful and delicious. I give 10/10 on Porkchop and 4/10 on the TV Dinner (as of the Fall 2022 menu). We did go at the closing time of the restaurant so I felt bad, however, the other server who seemed like an owner was super nice and didn't rush us at all. I give 4 stars because of her and the pork chop, otherwise, I would've given 3 stars.

Yelp
The food is excellent. The service is excellent and the Eggleston ambience it's great.

Yelp
Went here for Valentines Day Dinner and it was one of the best meals I've had in my life! Our server, Evan was extremely kind and attentive and explained all of the menu items so well we didn't even have a chance to ask any questions! We were led upstairs where there were couple tables covered in red table cloths and rose petals for Valentine's Day which was very cute and made the large room feel more private. To drink we got an espresso martini, which was delicious and not bitter at all, and an old fashioned. Our appetizers started off great! We got the pork belly burnt ends and the homemade focaccia. I love to bake focaccia so whenever a restaurant offers it we like to test it against homemade. While this one was a bit denser than how I make it, it seems like we were given almost half a loaf and the accompanying spreads were amazing! The pork belly burnt ends were perfectly cooked and the cherry balsamic reduction with the fried goat cheese was gobbled up For our main entrees we got the marry me chicken and swordfish steak, both of which were incredible and perfectly cooked. I had always seen marry me chicken recipes online but I had never made it and I'm glad I waited because I don't think my cooking would've have done justice as much as Palisades did. The swordfish literally melted in your mouth and paired really nicely with the mashed sweet potatoes. For dessert we had some hard choices to make but upon the suggestion of our waiter went with the chocolate cake. It was flourless and hot and the middle was gooey. Even though we were both stuffed we had no choice but to devour it. With the cold red velvet ice cream on the side we couldn't have asked for a better end to a perfect meal. Thank you to Palisades for such a special occasion, and the cherry on top was the beautiful flower given at the end of dinner! Highly recommend

Yelp
Wonderful place for special occasions. Had my birthday dinner tonight-awesome! Appetizers cheese board was great but be careful of watermelons spicy! I had the rabbit potlickers and the wife had lobster roll both perfect. Come here it's worth the drive.
google avatar

Asta K.

Yelp
Our go to special occasion restaurant! We are really lucky that it is just down the mountain from us.

Daniel S.

Yelp
It's an old style restaurant with a touch of elegance. The staff were wonderful and the food was tge best in the area.

Yelp
Wow! This restaurant is a gem in Giles county, Va. truly impressive quality of food and the ambiance is great. This past Sunday they had live music which was a bonus. There are plenty of options on the menu to cater toward just about anyone. I was very surprised to see Nigiri on the appetizer menu! The trout which I tried as my entree was absolutely delicious. The remoulade sauce on top of the trout really completed the entree. Unfortunately, I was too stuffed to try the desserts. There was an extensive beverage menu including signature cocktails, beer/wine, organic coffee and more. As a foodie who lives in Southern California where there are unlimited dining options, this restaurant really exceeded my expectations!

Allyson B.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. I am a hard lady to please and every dish I was served had such an attention to detail, I was humbled. The hush puppies melted in your mouth yet supplied a decadent tender crisp orbit. The salad was created like a painting, every accent of color tastefully placed in its proper origin. The veggie entree filled my mouth with gold; the squash was pull-apart perfect, not stringy, coated with rice, and topped with a rich curry sauce. My partner got the fig pizza and finished every bite! All I have to say is, make the drive, spend that extra dollar, it is so so well worth it. Oh! And my server Gavin was attentive, gave all the proper niceties, and had a wonderful smile! Still relishing in all of it writing this post after the fact.

Yelp
First time at Palisades, mater dei at front desk encourages us to go upstairs, nearly empty (first bad sign) "oh its overflow" - I'll come back and check to see how its going (never checked back), waiter was Liam, was wonderful person and did his best, ordered the Bison and Pizza - a few tables filled up, it was slow service - long wait, (second bad sign) pizza dish delivered no mention of second dish - 5 minutes later, the $30 bison dish arrived = cold. Sweet potatoes and green beans - Cold. Liam offered to remake or make warm, I chose to make warm, he came bake saying they would remake dish - despite not being able to eat dinner with my son, the food eventually came and all was good, until the mater dei - aka "manager" arrived at the side of the table saying she understood that food was being remade, I said - no it was here (I was trying to enjoy my meal), I said it was ok, it was a service issue, probably being upstairs, she took total offence (your in the wrong job, you are in the wrong job) and became agitated, very unfriendly and someone that gets bent out of shape easily, made the entire experience worse and walked away, totally unprofessional with a chip on her shoulder. If you can't take constructive feedback and empathize with your customer, get another job. This restaurant is totally out of the way, poor service, overpriced for that matter and not work the trip. Good luck, we will not be back.

Lisa J.

Yelp
Food , atmosphere and service was nothing but awesome If in this area it's a must try Strawberry whiskey mash was one of the best mixed drinks I've had in a while

Andrew N.

Yelp
Great food and service, we were checked on multiple times and had a few short conversations with staff. Multiple people walked in and were seated almost immediately. Greatly recommend.

Susan N.

Yelp
I should have gotten the trout!! I got an appetizer with shrimp and a grit cake. It actually had some kind of sausage in it that was very spicy. Even the hush puppies had some kind of strange spice in them. I had the pork Bar B Q with fruit in it?? I got white potatoes instead of sweet. Do they have a different cook? No pomegranate ice cream available. I brought home key lime pie and most of the meal. My friend took the Hush dogs. She got the mousse which I assume willl be good. She enjoyed the broccoli soup. I don't think I will waste $!20, again. The musician was very good this week as opposed to loud last week.

Yelp
This place is a hidden.gem. Jasmine was our server and she was "sweet". We had a problem with one of our beers and the manager came up, personally apologized and brought out a new beer. The food great .

Keith F.

Yelp
Always fabulous! The service is good and the food is wonderful. The old school vibe is awesome.

Shea W.

Yelp
Bisque was extremely salty and came out cold. Pizza was sub chain pizzeria grade. Service started good with good mannerism the whole time but just not efficien, likely why the bisque was cold. Was told there was no day-of reservations but when we arrived there was multiple open tables in the main room but was told we had to sit upstairs which did not have the ambiance expected. Had high hopes based on recommendations but was a real let down.
google avatar

Kaitlin B.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Worth the drive completely! The setting is a country home with history everywhere you sit. We always order a bottle of wine which goes down so smooth. As for appitizers we have almost had it all. My personal favorite is Spicy Shrimp Dip and the Foccacia with the bacon marmalade. I haven't ventured too much off of the menu because I found a dish that I absolutely love and enjoy. I get the Ribeye with the chipotle butter as my sauce. They cook this to perfection. While you wait for your dishes, hopefully you're lucky to be seated by the yearbooks. You get to explore the Eggleston past and check out life from the 50s and 60s. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to the Virginia region.

Yelp
If there's one thing that impresses me, it's a restaurant that takes pride in what they do. Palisades asked me to give them another chance and, considering the very positive experience I've always had, I decided to do just that. I was not disappointed: attentive service, the gregarious atmosphere that has traditionally characterized this restaurant, very good food and a staff that seems to be genuinely enjoying and taking pride in what they do. Brunch was as good as I remembered it, with an added, delicious twist in the form of orange chocolate french toast and honey crusted fried chicken. It's a toss-up, whether I enjoyed most the food, the bustling and friendly atmosphere, or the fact that the owner was personally involved with the room and every table. Once again, I'm a die-hard patron. Well done, Shaena. Well done.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! The food was absolutely delicious! Went there for a Valentines Day for dinner. I got the Loaded Potato under the Seasonal Pizza and my boyfriend got the Pork Chop. It was sooooo good! Food was extremely flavorful. We LOVED what we ordered! Also, such an welcoming environment with the staff & employees! :) also gave every lady a flower which is/was so cute! Our server was great as well! Would like to go there again!

Yelp
Phenomenal!!!! Food is incredible and the service is stellar This is our go to restaurant and it never disappoints. Definitely try the pizza, servings are large and delicious. Wish I remember Ed our latest servers name because she was AWESOME!!!

Yelp
The palisades is my all time favorite restaurant. It is the perfect blend of culinary curation and home-y vibes. While the palisades is a drive from neighboring Blacksburg and Christiansburg, it is worth the drive. The restaurant sits in a sleepy town on the new river with mountains all around. The food itself is delightful. The owner, Shaena I believe, has incorporated her travels and experiences in to the menu. The wine menu is the most reasonable I've ever seen and the selection is wonderful. I've never had a negative experience here and I look forward to coming back every time I'm in town.

Kerrie H.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere, food, and service is unbelievable.
google avatar

Pam B.

Yelp
This is a slightly quirky out of the way restaurant with a great vibe, excellent service and tasty, creative food. Wish they had a liquor license but we enjoyed our bottle of wine. Pork chop was juicy and tender.
google avatar

Valerie O.

Yelp
Another excellent meal. My group had the apricot chicken, Duck Wellington and steak and Gorgonzola pizza. Our appetizer was wagyu corn dogs. We had reverse apple pie wit caramel popcorn ice cream. Everything tasted great and we got great service from Dane. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Josh A.

Yelp
One of our favorite places in the world! Great food, fantastic staff, unique story, and often they have live music. Brunch is amazing also! It's off the beaten path, so combining this with a night at The Inn at Riverbend is a great option for a fun weekend get-away. Check out the video on their website to get the full story.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant of all time. It's an absolute gem hidden away in a beautiful rural area. The food is always top notch and boasts quality ingredients and ingenuity in bringing them together. Their menu is seasonal and they even have a relatively large weekly specials list with fun specials like the Chef's Wim and their TV dinner (it may be served on a tray but it's of exceptional quality!). There's something for everyone, from your meat lovers, to vegetarians, to pizza lovers (with fun topping combinations to boot!). And make sure to save room for dessert because they have homemade ice cream and the best cakes, pies, tarts, and bread pudding (what's on the menu is seasonal though). This is a great place for celebrations or visitors to the SW Virginia region. The restaurant space itself is very cute converted furniture shop with antique goods and eclectic Knick knacks covering the shelves. Sometimes you will even be treated to live music, more likely if you go to brunch! I only wish I could visit more but I have since moved away. I make an effort to go every time I'm in the region, though!

Yelp
Who would have thought that in the middle of this remote little mountain town, there would be such an elegant and excellent restaurant! I think the sign outside says it is a hardware store but it really isn't hard to find. We got there right at four and were quickly seated. Inside it is nice decor with big shelves full of books and other decorations. The tables have flowers in the middle! The service was very friendly and prompt and was a step above what you see at other restaurants. The menu isn't the largest but you can find something that looks really good. I had a three cheese pizza with locally made sausage. The dough was so good and it was cooked just right. It was also huge for its price (very reasonable). If I have one nit, it would be that there could have been a little more sausage. I got the "decadent chocolate cake" with "strawberry banana ice cream" for dessert. I was a little let down after such a good entree. While the ice cream was good, the flavor could have been stronger, and the chocolate cake wasn't really cake. It was denser and I think the chocolate was too dark for me. Even though it's a little out of the way, I can't wait to come here again!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Wife and I both love this place. Lots of great food options and service has always been excellent. The one downside is that its so far from us, but probably better for our budget that way, even though the food is actually very reasonably priced. One of the few places that has lived up to the hype of the reviews and word of mouth.
google avatar

Brad V.

Yelp
Way out there, but worth the trip. In an old general store, the atmosphere is hard to beat. Good beer and wine lists, excellent food from a small menu. Our group had ribeye, NY Strip, and pork chop / all were great, but the pork chop was table favorite! Also had juicy fried green tomatoes, shrimp, BBQ pizza and spicy shrimp dip appetizers, as well as a few desserts - all excellent! Highly recommend - came to Blacksburg last year for sales meeting and our group dined here, and we came back again this year. Hopefully will come back again.
