As our only night in Amsterdam, we settled on coming here. It was a walk to it from our hotel. But when we got there, it was super crowded. They had a wait for tables, but luckily we got seated quickly before the true rush began. Also, having a reservation is always good and I would highly recommend it.The seating and tables were very close together, so I guess if you enjoy nice open spaces in restaurants, this might not be a spot that would be interested in.
However, if you don't mind the tight spaces, this place is a wonderful spot to visit and eat at. Indoors, again while cozy, was very well decorated with all sorts of things hanging on the walls to stare at. The ambiance was busy, but a good type of busy and not chaotic.
So what did I get? We first started off the meal with croquettes. The mustard sauce was great compliment. After that, I ordered the beef stew with potatoes and red cabbage as my main dish. I wanted to get something different, but the stew was a staple. It was tasty! Though, knowing beef stew can be a bore at sometimes this place had a good amount of flavor. It came along with red cabbage and a mound of mashed potatoes.
For dessert, we shared the apple pie with whipped cream and it was tasty! And to pair with the dessert I had to definitely try out the liquer, which was elderflower flavored. I would definitely recommend to try the liquer here as they're the ones who make them!
Overall, would definitely recommend The Pantry. I would have to say though to reserve a table before going. It gets super busy, and if you don't get a table you might be waiting for a while. Big parties, probably not the best idea either, but there are bigger tables outside. The food was great, the service was great as well, so I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
