Service was friendly. Make sure you make reservations because walk in queue will have an hour wait. We ordered the set meal and happy that they have variety of sets. Generally, we enjoyed the meal. But the fish did not do for me. I find it too bland. The fish was cooked perfectly though. Desserts was good.

This tiny restaurant is perfect for when you want to taste the true Dutch cuisine. If you’re looking to experience authentic Dutch cuisine in a warm, intimate setting, The Pantry is a must-visit. This tiny gem delivers hearty traditional dishes that live up to the hype. We tried the sausage, which was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with classic Dutch sides that were equally satisfying. Be aware: seating is limited, and we had to wait for nearly an hour since we didn’t have a reservation. That said, the wait was worth it. Once seated, the service was decent and the food arrived quite quickly. A charming stop for a no-frills, authentic meal—just plan ahead if you’re on a tight schedule

We were lucky to get a table as a walk in. Really wanted to enjoy a traditional meal while in Amsterdam and this did not disappoint. The croquettes were excellent. My wife & I tried the oven dish which is kind of like a Shepard pie. My daughter had the sausage & kale mash potatoes. The desserts were both tasty. I really enjoyed my caramel ice cream with caramel waffle. Cozy atmosphere and friendly service.

The Pantry – A classic Dutch restaurant that you should definitely try when in Amsterdam. This place offers a wide variety of dishes, making it perfect for those unfamiliar with Dutch cuisine to sample many different options. The menu is easy to navigate because it’s organized into set meals that include a starter, main course, and dessert – all in one complete package. This month, they’re not accepting walk-ins. We were lucky to get a table despite not having planned in advance, as we arrived around 5 PM and only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. The service was excellent, very impressive. Prices are friendly. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s comfortable and beautifully decorated in a classic style.

The Pantry is a gem in Amsterdam. Book a table beforehand – you might have to wait otherwise. The inside of the restaurant is quaint, charming and homely. Even though it's narrow inside, it's not uncomfortable. Staff is very friendly. We had Menu 2 – goat cheese croquettes, an oven dish with mashed potatoes, ground beef, cheese and vegetables, and Poffertjes for dessert. All 3 courses tasted amazing, like a nice, homecooked meal from your grandma. The price for a 3 course menu can't be beat. We didn't have to wait too long between courses either, the timing was just right. Their house beer "Feeling Dutch" was delicious as well and complemented the food. All in all – 5 stars. Make sure to visit The Pantry when you're in Amsterdam.

Google
This place is very popular, so a reservation is highly recommended—sometimes even a few days in advance. We were a group of four and got lucky snagging a table right away (Tuesday at 5 PM), but walk-ins usually face a wait of over an hour. The menu is fairly simple, with a few classic Dutch comfort dishes. The Hutspot was definitely the standout among the three combination options. If your favorites are included, the set menu offers good value. The beef stew was rich and flavourful, and although we didn’t try the pork chop, it looked fantastic at neighboring tables. What really made the experience special was the staff—genuinely warm, friendly, and eager to help. Their hospitality added a lovely touch to an already memorable meal.

Google
This place was fantastic! We managed to get a seat outside despite no reservations (I highly recommend making them as we soon heard the wait was over an hour). We tried many classic Dutch cuisines, all of which were delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly. Blankets for outdoor seating to stay warm, too. I absolutely recommend this place!

Google
One of best dutch cuisine you can ask for. Very friendly staff and very sweet welcoming to this place. This place is so full, you can have a reservation there. Either reach early on the time of opening. So you dont have to wait. Food, is hot, fresh, flavour and delicious. When you come to visit Amsterdam don’t miss this place. All in all you will love this place ♥️ !!! Classic dutch place with such an ambience 🤤

Yelp
We wanted to try some classic Dutch food and the reviews led us here. Def a tourist spot tho You can order a la carte or get their set menus to try more things. Not really sure what we ate but overall, pleasantly surprised by the spread. The herring unexpectedly was a fav but probs bc I'm still going through my tinned fish phase. Tastes like a less pungent anchovy - def better with onions and pickles. Main dishes are a potato heavy so the cabbage added that much needed acidity (like warm pickles?). Loved the poffertjes Had this bouncy chew!! In the cup is vlaflip, a combo of vanilla custard, yogurt, and syrup. Kinda confusing but I still ate it. Overall, it's giving man (at sea) dinner with all the meats and potatoes.

Yelp
What a gem. It was my first time trying Dutch food so I was both excited and hesitant. The staff were just so lovely and attentive, someone was always there smiling and laughing and it helped create a really cost, homey atmosphere. I had the beef and onion stew and I thought that all the elements combined played very well with each other. If I had to complain, the only thing would be that the meat was a bit tough, but nothing absolutely crazy! I also had the apple pie, which was great.

Yelp
Awesome dining experience! Arrived on a Monday around 2pm and it was quite bustling; almost all the tables were taken but luckily we didn't have to wait. We were looking for a place with traditional Dutch food and this place did not disappoint! Both meals we tried were delicious and fresh. We paired them with local wine and beer, also very tasty and a great accompaniment. Ambiance was also very cute with traditional decorations and a sweet homey vibe. Would love to go back on my next Amsterdam trip!

Yelp
So glad I came here! I came here around 7:30 for dinner, and got a table before the huge line formed. I got the dinner set, which came with pea soup, a sausage dish, and a yogurt dessert. The meal felt quite honey, and rather healthy too. I was uncomfortably full by the end but it eas a worthwhile dining experience :)

Yelp
This was a cool spot! We had traditional Dutch food. The wait staff were pretty friendly. They even went all the way to their storage (off site) to fetch a bottle of port for me to try. Definitely get a reservation as it is a small space. I would recommend!
google avatar

Keri B.

Yelp
Super tiny place, don't be surprised if you end up sharing your table with strangers! It was warm and chaotic in there but the waitstaff was incredibly bubbly and chipper. I ordered the what I call mashed potatoes combo sampler with smoked sausage. They proved me right in that you can never go wrong with mashed potatoes even if you add sauerkraut or kale. But the smoked sausage was the star. I'm from Texas y'all and this was amazingly smoky flavored and delicious. This was a great place to sample traditional Dutch food and in a location close to many places you can walk off that food to!

Yelp
Recommended by Olga the concierge at our hotel. She said that they serve casual authentic Dutch food. It's small, but if we go without a reservation and stand there, we will get inside. There were tables out front as well. Tables were very close together & we heard many different languages here. The menu was 20 pages thick, overwhelming! Then there were 4 prix fixe specials of the day. I ordered the traditional hut spot with a meatball carrots and onions, while my husband had a sea bass meal. We both enjoyed our meal. My meatball was covered in a salty gravy with mounds of mashed potatoes mixed with carrots & onions. Portions were generous, service on point & helpful and our lunches were tasty.

Yelp
One of my favorite meals out of my trip. My friend found this place and made us a reservation. The Pantry is known for making Dutch meals, something you strangely can't find downtown. The restaurant is small, so you really need a reservation. I'm a vegetarian and found the perfect dish, so much flavor and a reasonable price. Casserole 14.95 - (leek, onions, curry, Old Amsterdam cheese and mashed potatoes) My friend ordered the MENU 1 -24.50 APPETIZER- Pea soup with rye bread and bacon MAIN DISH - Combination of stew, kale stew and sauerkraut stew served with a smoked sausage or a meatball She wasn't as happy with her meal, because the kale and sauerkraut mash. The rest was a hit. Her takeaway was that she took a risk and tried. On the other hand she ordered some extra sides and was very happy. My only issue was that I ordered a medium beer and a water. My walk back was horrible! I had to pee twice! Ended up paying at McDonald's and then made it to Primark's 4th floor toilet. Get a beer only if you don't have to walk far back to your hotel.

Yelp
I was told before not to trust a place that served food with the country's flag on it. There's no surer sign of a tourist trap. But The Pantry was such a nice intro to Dutch cuisine, I don't care if it's a bit touristy. I mean, isn't Amsterdam in general a little touristy? The Pantry serves many traditional Dutch dishes, which you can order a-la-carte, but you can also order as part of set menus. We went with Set Menu #1 which included pea soup, hutspot (a potato/carrot mash) boerenkoolstamppot (a potato/kale mash) and zuurkoolstamppot (a potato/saurkraut mash) with sausage, and vanilla custard as dessert. We also added an order of the famous pickled herring. The pea soup was very savoury and comforting, with pieces of bacon inside. The various mashes were decent and paired nicely with sausage, though not anything I would crave again. However, the dish I fell in love with and would order multiple more times during my visit was pickled herring. Don't let the exoticness scare you away, it kind of tastes like a really decadent piece of sashimi. Somehow the raw onions work super well with fatty fish and now I feel like adding onions to more fish dishes at home. The ambiance of the restaurant is also summed up by the word cozy. There are beautiful Dutch style blue and white porcelains decorating the walls. The servers were super friendly. The restaurant is quite small though but luckily they also allow reservations. There was something extremely comfortable about eating some hot soup in the corner of this tiny restaurant as we watched it pour rain outside. A lovely experience for our first restaurant in the Netherlands.

Yelp
This was a traditional dutch restaurant in Amsterdam that I went to dinner for one night while visiting the city. I recommend making reservations as this place is small and can get busy. I opted for the combination menu #1 that came with Pea-soup with rye bread and smoked bacon, Combination of hutspot, boerenkoolstamppot and zuurkoolstamppot served with a meatball and Vlaflip (vanilla custard with yoghurt and fruit syrup). All of the food tasted so good! Especially the pea soup. Delicious. This meal was very filling as the hutspot are very heavy! Out of the 3 I liked the one with the carrots the best. My sister had a similar dish with sausage and we both agreed that the food was good but filling! Highly recommend visiting if your looking some traditional dutch food!
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Came here for some traditional Dutch food. I ended up getting the Hutspot with a meatball (instead of the sausage). I felt like the meatball needed some seasoning, so I just got every bite with some of the mashed potetos/carrots and gravy. That helped a lot. I washed it all down with an apple juice. Service was good but restaurant is small. I recommend making a resy online!

Yelp
Very good traditional Dutch restaurant. It's the best one I found in Amsterdam. They have pre fix meals that are a good option and easy way to try things, especially if you don't know what to order. The staff are multilingual and friendly. Make sure you have reservations it's busy. Old style decor inside it's worth trying.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic Authentic Dutch cuisine. Such quaint and beautiful restaurant. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. It's highly popular with tourists and locals. The restaurant is very small and gets crowded and tight very quickly but that's part of the Dutch culture. The decor is absolutely stunning and traditional. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been. Anything on the menu looks wonderful. The menu is only 2 pages long, but comes in about 7 different languages. Food is wonderful. Tried the gerookte osseworst appetizer and it was AMAZING the main meal was great, but the stroopwafel ice cream was my highlight.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
It's really all about the ambiance, which is tight, but homey and cute. The staff was friendly. The food was great, but you know.... Lots of potatoes in various formats and for meat and potato folks, this is dreamy. We all enjoyed our meals and would recommend. You'll need reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
It is truly worth the wait. The staff is amazing. I thought they were the owners..that is how much pride they take. We ended up going back another night just for the pancakes. Delicious.

Yelp
Good traditional Dutch restaurant. The service was definitely nicer to us once they found out we had a reservation. Before that, they just kept bouncing us between people saying "oh my colleague will talk to you" when none of them wanted to talk to us lol. The food was def hearty Dutch food and I got thr hutpot with sausage. The sausage was super salty and the gravy and potatoes were bland, so together they made a good combo. The bitterballen tasted a bit over fried, either fried too long or fried in old oil, had that kinda burnt taste. Partner liked the fondue here better than in Paris. Slightly different cheese and he preferred it here.
google avatar

Casey M.

Yelp
This restaurant is very small, cramped and stuffy but the food is traditional Dutch food and tasted lovely and the waitresses were attentive and friendly. However looks can be deceiving. Firstly I couldn't see a drinks menu so ordered a Coke that came without ice. I ordered the number 3 menu which was a selection of sausages, beef stew and what I thought was included in the price I got charged separately for which was the chocolate mousse and eggnog so when the bill came I was surprised by the extra costs and the 9% service charge. I felt like they have taken advantage of a young woman who was on her own and I guess they did as I didn't say anything but an absolute joke and a bunch of conning money grabbers, please be aware and speak up, wish I had!
google avatar

Caili C.

Yelp
Nice experience, the staff is super kind and while the restaurant is often jam packed we were seated earlier than our reservation time at 10pm after waiting 30 min. For food we ordered the fish combination plate to try smoked eel, pickled herring and Dutch shrimp. I personally loved the shrimp and eel (similar to smoked salmon in flavor) but the pickled herring for me was not pickled enough and didn't have much flavor. We also got the shrimp croquettes which were nicely fried but a big heavy. It's essentially a shrimp version of bitterballen. We also got the steak and chicken satay for entrees. The steak was just ok - the cook was good but the cut of meat just wasn't very flavorful or tender. It's definitely much harder to find good steak in Europe compared to the US. The chicken satay was a bit of a gamble but it was yummy with a good peanut sauce and we liked the fresh salad that accompanied it.

Yelp
I have to say that this has been my most favorite place to go when im here Its 2023 and im glad they still exist The food are still good, you just have to make reservations before coming even on a Sunday They have a combination menu which is more affordable and your tummy will be full! You will get the soup to dessert for a pirce of 22€ I chose menu#1 The ambiance is still cool though its really tiny

Yelp
Delicious Dutch food. Small, very friendly staff, delicious food. Make a reservation.

Yelp
As our only night in Amsterdam, we settled on coming here. It was a walk to it from our hotel. But when we got there, it was super crowded. They had a wait for tables, but luckily we got seated quickly before the true rush began. Also, having a reservation is always good and I would highly recommend it.The seating and tables were very close together, so I guess if you enjoy nice open spaces in restaurants, this might not be a spot that would be interested in. However, if you don't mind the tight spaces, this place is a wonderful spot to visit and eat at. Indoors, again while cozy, was very well decorated with all sorts of things hanging on the walls to stare at. The ambiance was busy, but a good type of busy and not chaotic. So what did I get? We first started off the meal with croquettes. The mustard sauce was great compliment. After that, I ordered the beef stew with potatoes and red cabbage as my main dish. I wanted to get something different, but the stew was a staple. It was tasty! Though, knowing beef stew can be a bore at sometimes this place had a good amount of flavor. It came along with red cabbage and a mound of mashed potatoes. For dessert, we shared the apple pie with whipped cream and it was tasty! And to pair with the dessert I had to definitely try out the liquer, which was elderflower flavored. I would definitely recommend to try the liquer here as they're the ones who make them! Overall, would definitely recommend The Pantry. I would have to say though to reserve a table before going. It gets super busy, and if you don't get a table you might be waiting for a while. Big parties, probably not the best idea either, but there are bigger tables outside. The food was great, the service was great as well, so I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
We highly enjoyed the Dutch goat cheese croquettes. Probably could have used a second order since there are only three small ones. The sausage was good and the food felt very traditional. I did not love everything, but the food was outside my comfort zone and that is no reflection on the quality. Our waiter recommended a great light beer that I enjoyed. We ended our meal with mini pancakes. I felt like they have a great portion size for those. It would be helpful to have a reservation here, but we did not have one and were able to get a table for two fairly quickly. Inside has a nice local aesthetic. Smaller restaurant.
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing hospitality! We loved trying traditional Dutch food tonight at dinner for our honeymoon. Everyone made sure that we were well taken care of and shared some of the local spirits with us for our celebration. Cute interior with traditional decor and plates. We ordered the #2 & #3 meal specials. Highly recommend to try this place and make a reservation a week in advanced!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Amazing meal! Do make reservations. We arrived early but table was available just exactly at the reserved time. The place is small and cozy and staff is extremely friendly. The menu comes in several different languages. We opted to go a la carte; combination of fish (FYI shrimp cocktail is small shrimp not what you imagine as large cocktail shrimp), the sea bass, and beef stew. We also got the apple pie with ice cream added on. All of it was so delicious and piping hot! Loved the comfortable and welcoming atmosphere here for a traditional Dutch meal. Will definitely make our way here again one day.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Excellent food and friendly service. We had the bitterballen, beef stew with mash and cabbage, and combination hutspot, boerenkoolstamppot, and zuurkoolstamppot with sausage. Washed it down with their homemade trippel. Everything was delicious and our plates were cleaned! Will be coming back here again to try the rest of the menu. Thanks for your hospitality!
google avatar

Yelp
So amazing!! Staff is so amazingly friendly! We were lucky and got an outdoor table fairly quickly. I got the oven dish and the bf got the combination. Both dishes were simply amazing! We got the vlaflip, which consists of yogurt, custard, and syrup, and it was interestingly delicious. It does tend to get busy and the inside was very tightly packed, but so worth the wait to get some traditional food!
google avatar

Yelp
Good, typical food. Friendly service and nice ambiance. Their fixed menu options are great!

Yelp
Solid 3.5 starts..it was crazy busy..but they fit us in... Food was good..ate it all.. But imo across the street establishment. ..was much better overall.. I recommend

Yelp
This restaurant is very small. It's highly suggested that you get a reservation. We lucked out and showed up at opening and got a table. A few after us were turned away for not having a reservation. Traditional Dutch home style food here. Food that makes you warm and fuzzy inside. Staff are friendly and food is quite filling.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in Amsterdam for the authentic Dutch dining experience. Food, Service, and Ambiance are perfect

Yelp
Very happening place in Amsterdam. Be prepared to wait if you do not have a reservation. Waited 1 hour, 24 minutes to be seated outside in the cold because it was full. Several people waited too. Waiter was nice and kept updating us for wait time. Good customer service and friendly. Got salmon and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. My sis got a vegetarian meal and she said it was good. Cabbage was good. Expensive like everything else in Amsterdam but worth the try. Would I wait again in the cold, maybe not but wanted to try the food since it received good review.
google avatar

Alisa L.

Yelp
Amazing staff with amazing food! I cannot recommend this place enough but I do recommend making a reservation as they do stay full. The atmosphere is very homey and the staff make you feel very welcome and are super genuine. The best meal I've had in Europe during my vacation, loved the shrimp croquettes and the sea bass with mashed potatoes and veggies were delicious. My boyfriend had the hutspot with sausage and the portion was huge, he ate the entire plate. Lastly the caramel ice cream With caramel waffle and whip cream didn't stand a chance lol if I'm ever back in Amsterdam I will make sure I come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Our 1st experience with authentic Dutch food and we loved it. They gave us the best recommendations and were so sweet and friendly. They accommodated us for dinner cuz we were leaving the next day. Food was excellent we had the menu 1 and everything was tasty and hearty. We added 2 started and shared my husband and I and were very full. My favorite bites were the sausage in the main dish and the goat cheese croquettes
google avatar

Vanessa N.

Yelp
We were lucky as we were able to get seated within 5 minutes. This is a popular spot to stop by if you want a menu with traditional Dutch food. There is limited outdoors seating. We started our meals with some bitterballen. For the entree, I had the small sole fish filet. If you don't like bones in your fish, I wouldn't recommend this dish. If you don't mind, it was a good lighter dish compared to all the beef stews on the menu. We ended dinner with apple pie. I would definitely recommend it.

Eric N.

Yelp
Had the menu #2, the goat cheese croquettes were amazing. The baked dish reminded me of a shepherds pie, it was absolutely delicious. The service was also outstanding. And it a real nice place. Make sure you get a reservation well in advance if you want to go for dinner. For lunch we needed to book 3 days in advance.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Excellent place to visit for classic Dutch food! If visiting Amsterdam, this place is a must if you want to try some Dutch traditional classics!

Yelp
I was a little skeptical about going to this place because I had never had Dutch food and I was under the impression it wasnt gonna be as delicious or seasoned. but color surprised because I was so happy that we went here. The ambience was really nice and warm and very homey, the service was quick and I really enjoyed the food

Yelp
I lucked out and got a reservation for 6:30. We arrived at 6:15 and we were seated. The menus came and we ordered a Dutch wine and a aperol spritzer. The soup was out of this world. Thick, rich, a few pieces of sausage. Yum The ham sandwich was different a bit fatty but the mustard was the bomb. The croquettes were rich, creamy and I would definitely recommend it. We were enjoying our appetizers when all the lights and fan went out. Next was a happy birthday song and the whole restaurant sang. Special meal 1included a meatball with 3 different kinds of mashed potatoes. One with carrots, one scoop with sauerkraut and the other with kale. Great stuff. The wife had meal # 2, cauliflower and a ground steak some cheese and a seasoning that is like cumin, who knows it was delicious . They were both great. This place is legit real Dutch food. The specials came with dessert. Pancakes for dessert are you nuts, but it was sweet like a donut. I had the custard, I didn't like but my wife really enjoyed it. Who knew. I ate her mini pancakes dusted with powdered sugar. Bottom line, come but make a reservation. The line at 7:30 was long. The price in 2022 for special 1 was 22.50 and special 2 was 26.50

Yelp
Great and friendly service. Dutch food is very good. It's a must do when in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Great location for post museum meal. Just a few minutes walk from the Rijksmuseum. We sat outside at this charming busy spot, and had a hearty meal as we watched the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam go by. The blankets provided on the back of each chair was a nice touch- and were being used by most. . We selected one of the daily specials that started with goat cheese croquettes on a bed of greens, then to a traditional Dutch dish of cauliflower, ground beef, potatoes, onions in a creamy curry, cheese sauce that was outstanding. It was served piping hot in an oval Ramekin. Perfect for sharing and hearty enough for two. Dessert was Dutch pancakes with butter and powdered sugar. Service was fantastic, cheerful and very attentive. Can't wait to go back before the end of our holiday.

Yelp
First meal in Amsterdam. Reservations at 11:30am. Arrived on time, seated right away at this warm and cozy country-style restaurant with wooden furniture and furnishings. Quick delivery of orders. Both the Smoked Eel on Toasts and Herring on toasts were fresh and delicious. The Cauliflower/Potato/Ground Beef/Cheese Casserole was flavorful and filling. Poffertjes were pillowy soft and just yummy little pancakes. Also tried a few slices of the sausage from a friend's plate and that was juicy. Will definitely want to eat here again. Service was really fast. We were seated at the inner most section of the restaurant with my back facing the entrance. Was completely surprised by the number of diners when we were leaving and the long line of customers eagerly waiting for their turn to get seated and fed.

Yelp
Wonderful place to grab a Dutch meal! Small restaurant; we arrived mid-afternoon and didn't have a reservation. Staff was wonderful and super friendly! Some tables are shares and it's very small inside. Food was great, we really enjoyed this place!

Yelp
I loved this store! The only problem is that you can only watch helluva boss. It was very good I enjoyed episode 2 with Bridget . It was very funny and laughable

Yelp
What a great find! Amazing service. Unfussy, super tasty local flavors presented simply and expertly. Homey atmosphere with eclectic decor. Highly recommend the menu pre-fixe options -- super great value with a starter, main and dessert. Yelp
Dear Craig, What a gem! If you're looking for an authentic meal from Amsterdam this is the place to go. You better be hungry too because the portions are large. We started with soup. The Tomato soup was great, not creamy which is the way I like it. After trying the split Pea soup, there is no question. You've got to get the split pea soup. Flavors were string and delicious. The soup comes with a strange yet tasty bread, deli meat and spicy mustard The cheese fondue had a beer flavor to it that was unique. Must try. For the main meal we had sausage and sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was mixed with potato...I think and was amazing. I would like to go back and try the meatball instead of the sausage next time. The sausage was a link and not my favorite. The staff was so kind and inviting. Jack

Yelp
Popped in here after seeing so many great reviews and I'm glad did. The place is quite small, but that adds to the coziness. Food is hearty and perfect for cold winter night. Service was also excellent. Glad I stopped by!

One of my favorite places in Amsterdam! Make a reservation or you will be waiting quite a bit for a table. The restaurant is small and crowded but it only adds to the character and ambiance of the place. Ask for their favorite dishes and try something new! Food is delicious and portions are large but enough for 1 person to be satisfied. Don't skip the dessert!
