Charming medieval church with a welcoming visitor centre. Climb the tower for stunning panoramic views over the Norfolk Broads. From the top, you can see Malthouse Broad and St Benet's Abbey, perfect for nature and history lovers. Not recommended for those with a fear of heights.

Fascinating church to visit, with amazing views over the surrounding countryside from the rooftop viewing platform. The climb to the top is quite challenging - narrow stone steps, followed by two ladders and a small, but heavy, hatch. Remember you have to come back down them too! Definitely worth a visit if you are nearby, regardless of your religious inclinations.

Visiting Ranworth mosque was a delightful experience. The fact that it's an old and well-maintained church is impressive in itself, but the opportunity to climb the staircase, navigate two ladders, and access the roof through a trapdoor was truly amazing. While it could feel a bit claustrophobic at times, the experience was certainly well worth it.

Very nice church with a very old rood screen. Inside the door to the right is a handwritten antiphone( hymnal music and chants) Interestingly, you are also permitted to climb the church tower. From the top you will get great views. BE WARNED.. there are 89 steep spiral steps, two ladders, and a trap door to negotiate. It can feel claustrophobic and is hard on the legs and heart ❤️.. Do make a donation as so many churches do not open up and should. This one does, and help it keep doing so.

We just want to thank the parishioners of St Helens for what was a wonderfully insightful tour of this beautifully maintained and historic church. It’s not until you look closer that you truly see the history within its walls which was brought to life by Kay who’s love and passion really made our visit complete. We were amazed by the Rood Screen probably the best preserved example anywhere and how it was saved and white washed as a result of the reformation. Then there’s the monks seats possibly 800 years old (or more) taken from the ruined Abbey. Then let’s not forget the Medieval Antiphoner taking pride of place and so it should, it’s simply a work of art in itself! I attempted the tower and its 89 steps, I reached the top but failed at the final hurdle, as it was a little too tight for me to get up to the ladder and I wimped out ! Maybe next time!

Been up the tower a few times at this church as a youngsters but 40 years later I'd forgot how narrow the stairs were , still love this place though, please visit and consider a small donation

Known as the cathedral of The Broads, St Helen's Church has one a fine medieval rood screen and an impressive interior. It is possible to climb the spiral staircase in the tower, but beware there are vertical ladders out onto the top, so it's only suitable for those fit enough and who are not scared of heights! Open each day with refreshments some times in a churchyard cafe with toilets. There's wheelchair access and some parking. Listed grade I of national historic importance, this is a spectacular church to visit - and climb if you feel up to it.
